I heard Q-Tip and DJ Premier say with their own mouth that Large Pro taught them a lot in sampling and beat making techniques!
They said because of what The Professor taught them, they were able to take their craft to a whole new level.
SERIOUS!
Paul C Taught Large Pro SP1200 and Sampling.
Large Pro. The man is so authentic. I'm glad so many of us appreciate him here.
The epitome of a legend
BombXXplosive True indeed
The LP & Breaking Atoms are fucking classics man shoutout to Large Pro... if you love Illmatic, you'll DEFINITELY love the albums i mentioned...
The LP is such a dope album!!!!
+GoodxJ aight
This guy might just have the greatest voice of all time.
Brolyrulz He be sounding like prodigy from mobb deep low key
Brolyrulz shout out to The Game
Common313Ambriz OTHER WAY AROUND LARGE PRO IS OLDER AND WAS IN THE GAME FIRST
+Brolyrulz ummm meth?
big daddy kane?
Large P?! Now that's an interview. Legend right there!!
Great interview! I feel so old, I miss this era of hip hop! These kids nowadays just don't know how great hip hop and music was during the 70s, 80s ,90s and early 2000s . Large professor is the shit!
Yeah like you! Get educated and stop speaking out your ass! Like really!
***** man you stupid
I appreciate some of todays Hip Hop but it simply won't touch 90s Hip Hop because it's no balance nor is there diversity in the mainstream. That's it... Based God's Son
Oh yeah, and the rappers you mentioned, wouldn't be anything without the 90s "dusty" rappers you complain about.
***** 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂The guy here is comical!
one of the best!! extra p
He produced all of Cormega's "Megaphilosohy" album. Respect.
He also produced all of Akinyele's "Vagina Diner" lol.
Large Pro gets big props for his production but I personally think he's also one of the best MCs ever...his style and wordplay always keep me guessing because his patterns are unpredictable, meaning you can't guess which word he's gonna chose to rhyme, like you can with most rappers
Exactly man he makes such an effort to distinguish himself and you can see by his word choices and his beats, just everything exudes large pro. And he keeps his game on point, "whys my name the large professor, cause I miked your cow in other words I hit your heifer"
Large Professor is one of my favorite all time producers, however, if you know your hip hop history I am shocked that Large Pro failed to include the late Paul C as one of his favorite producers. Paul C is the one who taught Large Pro how to produce records, LP was his protege. For those who don't know about Paul C he was active in the late 80's and changed the game producing the many tracks for Eric B & Rakim (Let the Rhythm Hit Em) as well as fully producing the Ultramagnetic MC's Critical Beatdown album. Changed the game, most people don't even know about him.
Actual Fact!!!
I think Paul C was First to Pioneer SP1200.
Guy was Genius, He was Straight Inspiration for All that 90's Hit Producers and Shaped the Main NYC Sound.
Rip Paul Mckasty.
"Ya Fakin' the Funk," "Looking at the Front Door," "World Wide," "Solar Flares," "Halftime,""Keep It Rollin'"....the legend. Extra P! This man got some classics and so humble.
It's hard to name a top-5, but here goes (in no particular order):
1. Pete Rock
2. DJ Premiere
3. Large Professor
4. J Dilla
5. Marley Marl
Honorable mentions:
6. The Beatnuts
7. Buckwild
8. Q-Tip
9. 45 King
10. RZA
no 9th wonder
+jordan Hutton 9th Wonder is cool, but he is nowhere near the league of the cats I listed. Heck, he uses the same drum sounds all the time and lacks versatility as well.
+Big Stacks everyone says he uses the same drum sounds but hi music far just cool and I feel he not that far from dilla and he got some pete rock in him he make soul beats
You gotta think in terms of classic productions. When 9th Wonder makes timeless, bona fide classics like the Shut Em' Down Remix, Running Away, Come Clean, Nobody Beats the Biz, CREAM, Off the Books, Halftime, Crooklyn Dodgers, Hard Knock Life, and Time's Up then he'll make my list.
Good list. Madlib should be up there though.
The five kings of crafting beats!!!
1. DJ Premier (THE MASTER!!!!!)
2. Marley Marl (The Pioneer!!!!)
3. Pete Rock (The Soul!!!)
4. RZA
5. William Paul Mitchell (Large Professor)
No J Dilla?
rocky ortiz Top 5, no!! Top 15, yes!!! Four of the five in the list paved the way for Dilla.
Yeah I'll give you that one, you have a dope list tho
buckwild ;)
rocky ortiz Thanks
***** will swoon when he watches this. So many full circle moments in this interview. Please someone make a documentary about the Professor, he's part of history.
the shit he did with mad skills album back in 95 was so ill and the common resurrection extra p mix was refined and amazingly beautiful
Good to see you taking it back to you're b-boy 'Sway and Tech' roots Sway.ILL interview man...Word life!
LP IS TOP 5 PRODUCERS OF ALL TIME!!!! KIDS TAKE NOTES!!!
The Organized Konfusion remix to Stress is one of the dopest beats of all time, produced by Large Pro. Check that shit out if you never heard it. The Nas One Love remix he did was dope as fuck too. Legend and highly underrated.
Ric Smith yes sir!!!!!!
ok
Sway is so blessed & most definitely a legend in his own right to interview so many numerous countless hip hop legendary pioneers……..smh
Salute to the Veterans of Hip-Hop! All new fans and artist recognize!
I can't front and pretend like I know a gang of his work or Main Source, but I definitely know the singles and What You Need.....BABY! I can't get over that beat. I'm a fan strictly off of what he did with Intelligent Hoodlum and Nas. Love the work he did in the early 90's. Dang, my friend Howie Tee don't get no love, LP? It's all right. I kinda forgot about Easy Mo until I came on RUclips. It all came back to me.
You’ll notice how easily these OGs give props and stay humble it’s def something to take note of
flying lotus is dope af... glad he showed him love.
God bless the big homie LARGE PROFESSOR much love and respect from BK!
Friendly Game of Baseball...one of the greatest lyrics ever written.
Salute to Large Pro.. He been doing this a long time with Good Music from day 1.
watching this at 10.38 and its 10.38 on that clock, buggin out
"It ain't hard to tell" - favorite music piece of all time for me. Extra P is a legend. If you liked the story about De La Soul vocals sample, check out the song he did for Nas called "You're the man", you will be surprised by the vocals sample flip.
Awesome interview
This Is The 1st Time I Heard Anyone Reference Xtra P's Classic Song "Friendly Game Of Baseball"... That Song Concept In My Opinion Gave Birth To Nas's Classic Song "I Gave You Power"!!
I must've had at least 3 copies of Breaking Atoms. On cassette because I'd wear them out listening over and over to them. Lol. Large Pro is one of our Masters of Hip Hop Expression.Revered and Honored amongst people worldwide as a genuine Icon! Listening to him made my musical outlook expand to appreciate Jazz ethics,to where I could respect not only the rhythmic but also the historic contribution of that art form.Extra P"s rhymes were always crisp, precise and visual and still are to this day..I'm glad there's q main source reunion tour going down and more than glad that the Brother Large Pro is still hitting em upside the soul with the Soul!! Salute!!
Extra P's best verse is on A Tribe Called Quest "Midnight Mauraders" album. Called "Keep It Rollin'". Peace Lord! Tracey G... damn girl! She fine as hell, word!
Overstanding God buy the album when I drop it....classic LP
I love this man's art. He is one of cornerstones of the music. He gave Slick Rick mad love which was so lovely. Good karma to you & yours bruh!
always love extra p's work, from the nas it aint hard to tell remix to the stuff he did for cormega, extra abstract skillz , the shit he did with tribe., he's always been underrated to me as a producer, keep dat real hip hop alive.
Definitely will check that project out
Long time LP fan. True Hip Hop. Respect from the 303
Large Pro much respect bro!!! #legend in Hip-Hop culture!!!
That guy that asked Large Pro who his fave artist to work with sounds like the country dude on the skit before De La's "Stakes Is High"
He's got a dope verse of the new Czarface album Every Hero Needs a Villain. Check out Cormega's Mega Philosophy! HE PRODUCED THE WHOLE DAMN THING! Amazing producer.
At first I was like large professor? Well, that's pretty rude, then I was like OH SHIT!
mad respect for the flying lotus and dibia$e shout
Large Pro on the mount rushmore of hip hop, no question!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes in my household in 2018 we play music and dance at home....
This man deserves so much love.
I started thinking when they started naming producers. Havoc is up there on my list. I hate to say this but early Dr. Dre was fire. Alchemist has crazy concepts. Kanye is up there. No I.D. was dope. A person rarely mentioned that I love too is Dame Grease. Damn... So many beats running thru my head right now
Just blaze,Timbaland,Sir jinx,

Tan Lines Mc eiht and Jeru da damaja
When he mentions how his father was proud when he heard "Friendly game of Baseball" on Boyz in da Hood, I felt that. That must've felt great for him, seeing his father proud of his accomplishments.
Salute to the OG. Slick Rick is dope as fuck I agree
True legend Large Pro. I still rock his stuff. I would love to listen to the rest of the interview but in my older age I have a low tolerance for people who are slow to speak their words. Cant deal with Sway and his "yeah,,uh's," and "you knows" too many of them. You host a show and you drag on everything you say. I'm too old for all that.
His Verse on "8 Million Stories" Song from A Tribe Called Quest Midnight Mauraders Album is one of my Absolute Favorite EVER! it was so direct straight to the point and his flow and voice Smooth Mega Butta. IJUSWANNACHILL CRAZY ASS SONG much Respect Extra P.....
***** Lmao oh Snap you're right I'm Tripping....Cause on Keep it Rollin he Sampled Roy Ayers "Feel like Making Love" Damn How did I mix the titles up thanks for the Catch homie.....
Legendary! Large P.
I remember buying the 12 inch for Live at the B'q. That beat and that opening verse by Nas still resonates with me till this very day.
Hard to watch this clip without getting motion sickness. Amateur camera work..
The Stress remix for Organized Konfusion is still till this day one of my favorite Extra P remixes and verses. "never thar for me .. my names Extra P I can't afford to be the stressed the fuck out in 93... or 94 cuz every body know my solution for being stressed is looking out the front door "
Thats sick he said Flying Lotus when referring to new dope producers
