In a sense I'm a little upset because it ruined every other animated thing in the sense I'll never witness something as amazing as this again. I'll never watch Kaiba for the first time again
How did one video recommended to me showing one of the scenes from one episode of this anime, got so curious, watched it, cried over it, loved it, and would recommend watching back at it again in a few years. Thanks algorithm for giving me such a wonderful anime :3
I bingewatched this series yesterday after finding a clip of Kaiba in Chroniko's body helping a girl in a guy's body go to the bathroom. I thought it was a bit funny and the art and animation style really reminded me of Osamu Tezuka's art style (where the characters look like they could be plastic inflatable people but not really?) mixed with something like some of those early 80s animes or something. I may not have understood the full story and sometimes the consistency of the art quality looked a bit off but I still enjoyed it. Story wise it reminded me of a movie called the Congress where an actress goes into an animated world searching for something that's missing from her life. IDK why the setting of Kaiba reminded me of the animated portion of The Congress where are able to change their cartoony avatars but they're still able to die or something. While the main female lead is mostly trying to find her son, Kaiba is trying to find a girl who seems to be the key to helping him remember who he is. Sorry, I rambled on too much.
To me was the sex scene... Oh boy, the clip started pretty inocent, but with this part Iknew this anime had something more, so I watched it all in one night! No regrets.
Kaiba was the last “great” anime series ever hosted on a tv screen. 14 years have gone by since its release and the void it left is impossible to fill in.
Just watched this the other day with my girlfriend. It was quite the ride, but for all the lore about upper and lower classes, that really doesn't show much at all, aside from glimpses. That said, it was hard to put down, because you kept wondering what would happen next, which is absolutely a powerful selling point of the series. That said, half the runtime is spent on a side plot with an morally bankrupt ugly bastard who's obsessively trying to score with a dubiously legal girl who's clearly not into him. Then he pulls a last minute "I've actually got noble motives" right out of his pocket, literally, moments before biting the bullet. After which the side plot abruptly ends, and prooves to have had pretty much zero impact or relevance to the main plot whatsoever. Poor Chroniko. You deserved so much better! Then we go back to the original plot, and the show is absolutely amazing. Probably one of the best animes I've seen in recent times. In some ways it feels a bit rushed, and would have been better if all the episodes focused on it. I very much still recommend giving it a watch.
