@@missanthropist5806 from what i understood, the original Warp was cloned many times because only a perfect clone had the capacity to hold the memories and powers that the original had. it never says how many clones came between the original Warp and Kaiba, it could have been many, it could been that he was the original. but i think at least the original was born normally.

I was surprised to learn that it was made in 2008, it looks so retro to me!

Yes, it looks like it was traditional painted on cells, rather than digital. Although whether the practice was revived or cleverly imitated, I dont know. If it was released in 2008 then it's really unlikely that it was painted on cell.

The last 4 episodes were so fast paced that i feel the relationship between Kaiba and Neiro needed more development. Did the production budget of Kaiba were too limited?

Most likely considering studios don't receive too much money if they are making a obscure anime.

It was such a ride watching this series for the first time not knowing anything about Kaiba
To me it’s such an under rated classic anime that it always a joy to share with others that I know
Kaiba soundtrack is my all time fav track in any kind of anime
I just adore how the visuals alone in this series can tell an entire story which I feel is difficult for a lot of other anime series
I could watch this series over and over and never get tired of it especially episodes 3, 4 and 7
    ✨Great review can’t wait to see more✨

I do love the final couple episodes ironically and everything is indeed explain throughout all of them if you pay attention. My personal opinion though if it should have been 24 episodes so those other threes could of been aliste spread out more so you can have I'm more invested feeling of the relationships and a backstory but I think they did a lot with a little.

I watched it, and it really is something different. I can tell you that it os vastly superior in terms of focusing on the story than majority of modern anime tropes. If you want something to be wowed by, then this is it here. I would also recomment the show producer to at least come back, and fix the final episodes to make it perfect, but other than that, this show is great!

Another awesome and detailed review on a timelessly creative series. I hope to see even more reviews like this and I'm also really liking your consistent schedule.
As for the series itself, Kaiba is easily one of all-time my favorite anime because I absolutely love it's surreal style (which was what got me interested in the series to begin with) and it's execution of it's intriguing themes and concepts.
The 5th episode in particular was probably my favorite one because, despite having a lower budget (which I actually found to be rather charming), it shows one of the more interesting examples of it's concept, thus being able to execute great themes regarding the use of resources and advertisement.
As for other reviews I'd like to see you do, I think it would be great if you reviewed some of Satoshi Kon's works (Paranoia Agent is one I'd particularly like to see you do.) Reviews on Yuasa's other works would also be pretty cool.

    • @KetenReviews
      @KetenReviews  8 лет назад +4

Thank you so much! The 5th episode is outstanding, I loved how it used the surreal story and low budget design to get across it's commentary on how people can so easily control what we as a society find beautiful and it went above and beyond by showing what happens to the bodies as a result, not only making sense with the world of Kaiba but also being a subtle metaphor for eating disorders. So flawless and brilliant!
I'll definitely get to Satoshi Kon's works eventually! Yuasa's other works will be reviewed in the future as well. ^^

    [Spoilers]
I just wish they had given themselves more time and episodes to work with. While I loved this anime overall, it really lacked emotional impact in some cases.. For example, I really wish that they had spent more time letting us get to know and understand Vanilla. Up until the episode where he dies, I just could not for the life of me connect with him. And even then, all of that information about him was just kind of thrown out there, and as a result I, as well as the person I was watching it with, didn't experience the proper emotional impact. Plus, they let us know that Warp was essentially impossible to harm before Neiro thought that she had killed him, which also took away from the emotional impact of that scene. I also did have a lot of issues with the last two episodes.. As you said, there was just so much information thrown out there that it was just overwhelming.
They also could have taken so many of the concepts in this anime much further, though of course that's my opinion. Like I would have loved to have seen Kaiba and Neiro meet up more than just once in different bodies, or maybe seen more of the impacts of bodies/memories. More episodes like episode 3 would have been fantastic. That's probably one of my favorite episodes, as it had the emotional impact that I couldn't experience within so many of the other episodes. It also properly covered the characters, their motivations, and the like. Of course, that's just my opinion.
Other than that, I loved absolutely everything about it. I've never had a series sit with me like Kaiba has. (I also seriously appreciate that traditionally animated opening. The opening is just soooo gooood.. Probably the first series where I've straight up never skipped it)

I understood the messages and themes that _Kaiba_ was giving and dealing with, but I never really felt invested to the series: it never gave me a reason to care. It just felt like I was reading an article from newspaper and that's all: I got information out of it, but I wasn't exactly blown away by it or though it was mesmerizingly profound.
Also like you said, final episodes were messy and it just felt like they were making stuff up as they went along and whatever was convenient.
I don't know, I'm planning to rewatch _Kaiba_ in the near future, maybe I missed/forgot something from the earlier episodes, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

Sadly i didn’t enjoy it that much
Action scenes didn’t have any weight to them
The characters for the most time acted like they didn’t care or know what are they doing or what’s going on
So for the 1st half you don’t know what’s going on
And the second half is rushed
So i was bored and didn’t care that much about characters
And character deaths felt empty or meh
Blend of cg and 2d animation was also poorly done
Yuasa sacrifices detailed designs for more fluid animation which i don’t particularly agree with
Models feel cheaply animated like a fan made animated series on youtube
While i respect him and absolutely prefer his style over generic isekai anime of every season
Directors like miyazaki or satoshi kon and works of studios like ufotable or trigger could achieve both fluid animations , great detailed environments and characters + better directed action scenes
The thing a adore about it though Is the world building
    So unique and inventive
