all URM (martians, mars) have "big eyes" and all earth'lings/earth'ians have "small eyes" (science: physics+biology: earth is closer to the sun, so the sunlight taken in, needs to be less, hence the smaller eyes, whereas mars is further from the sun, so the sunlight taken in, needs to be more, hence the bigger eyes) (we only get two see the eyes of two of the URM: Alita and briefly with the flashbacks, of Gelda, all of the other URM, all had their helmets covering their eyes in the flashbacks) (the entire solar system has been colonized, the URM/mars humans are the least changed by their planet, only having the bigger eyes as separation from the humans of earth, whereas the humans of the other 7 planets, are much less recognizable as "humans" (earth-humans / original humans / the humans of earth), and then of course, with all of the planets, you also got the cyberization too, as well (to varying and differing degrees as well)
A strange choice for cyborg faces that otherwise could pass as humans. With normal eyes, they could be infiltration agents. Miyazaki of Studio Ghibli (makers of iconic movies like Princess Monnooke and Spirited Away. Worth reacting to) said that anime took the eyes from Disney, who uses it to focus the audience on emotive faces.

@@DjJokerr yes. thats why I said its in "active development" and not production. Damn it man it faced the same issue that Speer Racer 2008(anorher AMAZING anime adapation) also went through when it came out around the same time as Iron Man
I cannot wait for the sequel for this movie, especially now that it has been confirmed to be in development. One of the extremely few good anime adaptations.
My favorite Alita story is what they did to promote the movie. They had a girl who had outgrown her prosthetic arms, and gave her a set of new arms that matches Alita's
@nexus1936 And that promotes the movie...how, exactly? Plus neither Gamora nor Nebula were in a movie at the time, and the sheer bullshit involved in a crossover like that would leech more money out than it would get them. Besides, it already beat the promotional stunt the competing Marvel movie did: Alita gave a little girl new arms, Captain Marvel gave a couple little girls free tickets
38:30 That part of the movie (and manga/anime) is a very important bit of subtlety that many people don't catch. The whole reason Ido didn't give her the combat body, as he stated, was that she was an URM-Beserker in the war. Those bodies are capable of quite literally crushing a regular human without even a thought about it, which is why the Beserkers were the most highly trained warriors for the war (it's explained more across the three manga volumes), as they were designed to combat cyborg humans from the Imperium. The subtlety lies in that she shows immediate familiarity and mastery of the body, by being able to balance on one finger, and then laying against Ido without injuring or crushing him. It was her showing him that she was finally in the body she was quite literally built for, through her years of training with the URM military.
I watched this one on a 4DX theater (3D+moving seats+wind) and it was one of the best movie experiences I've ever had. I can still remember the vertigo I felt when they're climbing up to the city. It was mind-blowing
Everything about the film was , in typical anime style, shocking, gruesome, charming, and moments of "Right ON!!!"... That martial arts exercise scene before the mirror is an exact replication of a filmed real Bruce Lee exercising.
The world and character building is meant to be slow to establish everything. Her CG was great, she was so endearing and expressive. Hard not to fall in love with her. I work in VFX and I think she looked amazing.
Ever since I finished Alita, I was pleasantly surprised at how it's one of the rare occasions where a live action adaptation doesn't butcher the original Anime/Manga. Having said that, I for some reason started looking up Rosa Salazar's portfolio afterwards, turns out that she was also in a couple of other works including Bird Box and Brand New Cherry Flavour.
Alitta is an actual actress that they changed slightly to fit the looks of the character which I find really interesting. I do love this movie though I had no idea it was based on anything. It was amazing to see it in 3d on the big screen and I found the story to be interesting as well. Good reactions as always guys and glad you did this one as well.
The eyes of Alita was because, James Cameron wanted to keep the anime look to her. Also James Cameron and his company are prepping a sequel as we speak.
I won't lie, Alita is my favorite movie. I absolutely adore her❤️ And Rosa Salazar, for playing Alita, became my favorite actress (she made Alita really come to life). Many thanks for Your reaction. Every day I search to see if anyone has recorded their reaction with Alita. What I regret the most is the lack of information about a potential sequel, especially since the film directly indicates that it will be a series of several parts. However, I don't lose hope. Thanks again for Your reaction☺️
It is an absolute shame that there was never a sequel/trilogy for this wonderful movie. It is so rare (nowadays) for a well written female hero and Alita was awesome!
Here they used Chinese Wing-Chun Kung Fu (the one Ip-Man used in real life, and taught Bruce Lee when he was young) as Alita's fighting style, but in the Japanese Manga it was called "Panzer-Kunst", a made up martial art. And yes, Nova is Edward Norton. It is a nine book Manga, so it's LONG. Don't worry, a sequel is on the way (after another Avatar). There is a couple of "making of Alita" on YT.
In the manga, Alita did seem to have a problem with remembering faces. Many times she did not recognize even enemies, though it could have been a put on given how much it irritated them. They did use a lot of sets, and foreground sets with CGI backgrounds. Ido's place was a set and many of the street settings had physical sets up close and some background, but once it got to distance views it was CGI. The Deckmen, the thing with the face that dealt with the bounties was worse than you think. They actually had a human brain in them, or part of one. People with nothing left to lose could volunteer to become a deckman, and their brains, or some of it, would be put in the that machine. They were also used in other places as lookouts, gunners, and I think in the centurians as well. The deckmen were not very capable or bright, but they didn't need to be. Ido may have been so afraid of the berserker body because it was capable of destroying the planet. It was capable of "grey gooing" the planet, as happened in the manga to Mercury.
One of my favorite movies of all time. Its a great manga too, bought the box set. I saw this 5 times in the theater and 3 or 4 times since then. It may get a sequel because of how well Avatar 2 did.
If Avatar didn't end up becoming the biggest box office movie of all time. Cameron was planning to direct this. He's had the rights for 20 years and loves the manga.
This was the last 20 Century Fox film before Disney bought the studio. That's why there hasn't been a sequel. Fans have had petitions and have lobbied for more which has helped make a sequel possible. The Japanese author wanted assurance that his story would stay true to the Manga, which it did. He wanted no race swapping or other b.s. they're doing with films these days.
Alita from head to toe is 100% CG. Also good news! James Cameron has seemingly confirmed that Alita: Battle Angel sequels will soon start filming in Texas
Her original large eyes had small pupils, making her face distracting and off putting to many people. Cameron simply increased the size of her pupils that made her eyes more acceptable and less distracting. People familiar with the manga and anime have stated that this is one of the best adaptations from these sources. Of course, every movie has some deviations. Cameron had originally planned to make an Alita movie over 20+ years ago. Hopefully with the success of Avatar 2 we will finally get a sequel. Rosa Salazar did a great job as Alita. This is my favorite movie because it portrays a strong, intelligent female protagonist with good character development with a lot of heart with a good story.
Glad you like this, one of my favourites, and definitely the favourite movie of Yukito Kishiro, the original author. Doc Ido in the movie is the most complex character, and his journey was about self-redemption. He and his family were kicked out of Zalem as their daughter was disabled, thus not "beautiful" enough for the "perfection" of the place. His work building Motorball competitors resulted in the death of his daughter, so he vowed not to do it ever again, and he kept the body he built for her as a reminder that he failed as a father. The discovery of the broken cyborg was a chance for him to redeem himself as a father who's able to protect and bring up a child, even though he's aware that she's not his daughter. At the locker room, Alita was emotional when Ido presented her with her skates that he made himself: that's when she realized that Ido had completed his redemption as Motorball no longer cast a shadow over him. Unlike some purist viewers who are against any change to the original story, Kishiro himself liked Cameron's changes to the story and said they were improvements. And he was absolutely thrilled during the Motorball sequences: "that's exactly how I wanted it to be!"
So well done this adaptation fun facts Guillermo del Toro was a huge fan of the manga and terrific friends with James Cameron he gave him a manga copy and said Jim your gonna like this and wella he loved it as it's right up his alley scfi and kickass women he developed the script in about 1995 if I'm not mistaken and potentially waited to make the movie until he decided to make Avatar instead so Robert Rodriguez expressed interest in making it so he did and it worked out pretty well I think 🤞we get the sequel Alita Fallen Angel cause man i want to see more
Bonus info: Cameron spent the time and energy developing effects and technology and basically revolutionized film techniques for something like 10 years working on this movie, and released Avatar as a tech demo *for* Alita! He basically made Avatar to see if his tech was up to the task of doing justice to Alita and when it became super famous and made blazillions of money he has ended up bound to that demo movie but he's going to just put more work into the next Alita
@skwirralosborne9791 not necessarily he decided to make Avatar as he felt the technology was right at the time for it plus that was strictly his passion project he just put alita aside as cameron lost time for it unfortunately cause I would have loved to have seen how he strictly would have made it but Robert Rodriguez did a brilliant job with his script I would say alita was more influential for the cg used in Avatar 2
I'm a big fan of the manga since 2002,, it consists of three arch, the last arch isn't even finished yet until now. I have to say this is a very good adaptation to the original, I really hope we got a sequel for this too.
The performance capture in this movie was a test bed for the tech used to make Avatar: the way of water. Also Cameron and Rodriguez have been talking about a sequel recently
The people who made this movie worked on Avatar, The Titanic and Sin City. No worries I did some research because I actually rewatched the movie yesterday. I asked myself “ how can you end the movie in a way a movie with a sequel will end “. Come to find out the reason why we haven’t seen another movie is because the director/producers for the movie are the ones who worked on the newest Avatar movie along with a tv series on Disney+. Conversation was had with the actors to which all agreed to come and relive their characters and faught for another movie along with the director/producers if the tv series on Disney+ did a good job. I forgot the series title but I have faith the series did amazing so be on the look out for a second movie because I’m ready and will be there the day it premieres at the movies. ❤️
Wow, I'm only seeing this now after a month? This is my fave movie. I watched it on imax 3D and bought a copy of it as well. It was much better in theatre, the world is beautiful, the cgi on Alita is outstanding, and I love the actress they motion captured, Rosa Salazar. I remember they said her trainer also trained Keanu Reeves for John Wick, correct me if I'm wrong. I also read the manga, there are so much more material so I hope for a sequel since this is James Cameron passion project. Also, this movie is faithful to the source material so her looks and most of the scenes are in the manga.
I love this movie like you do. I too saw this on IMAX and bought the DVD. Rosa Salazar did a great job. Cameron, Rodriguez and Salazar are very enthusiastic about a sequel. I hope that Rosa stars in the sequel.
I loved this movie, also as someone who never read up on the manga... Also, you REALLY have to give the actor who played Vector props, the change in voice, body language and mannerisms when he switched to Nova was so good...
Mahershala Ali is an incredible actor. I will never understand the crap people throw his way, because I think he'll make an incredible actor for the MCU's Blade.
@@valashar5313you do know what happen to blade? Disney forced scripwriter to wrote about blade's daughter replacing his father at the end of movie so scripwriter told ali and they told Disney they wont do it. So Disney announced blade Will be delayed
@@boboboy8189 I'd say good on them for derailing crap like that. I'm more than willing to wait for a proper Midnight Sons version of Blade. Some characters can still do well if softened by Saturday Morning Syndrome. Blade is NOT one of them.
I remember reading the Manga when I was in school, it was excellent. The movie covered just the first arc. I was stoked when the movie was announced, and it's actually a really good adaptation (the big eyes were not a movie choice, that was actually accurate to the source material). I really hope we get more movies, because the really good arcs are later ones, I think (sweet, optimistic Alita is lovely, but I was always more invested in the more matured, jaded, angry Alita of the later chapters)
I love the manga and was very happy and a bit excited when the film adaptation was announced. I am very pleased with this film adaptation - and have seen the film 5 times in theaters because I liked it so much. I even invited my niece and nephews to the movie and they liked it without knowing the background. And they also want to see a sequel. Fortunately, it has finally been announced that there will be one.
This was a good movie that was a decent adaptation of a small portion of a great story, and one of the few manga I've actually read the whole series of. Also, the animated version of this is, imo worth a watch.
From what I understand the MAIN reason they haven't done the sequel yet is because Cameron is the producer and he's wrapped up with the Avatar movies right now. I know he's not the director but it seems to be enough of his project that it can't move forward without his involvement. The same motion capture stuff with the dots on the actors that they use on Avatar they used in Alita as well from what I can see so I am grateful that Avatar exists so Alita can. It's still a shame because I love both movies so I can't really say forget Avatar and come focus on Alita or vice versa, but if logistics is the problem and time then just get some more assistants James! Like 20! Have meetings, pass them notes, DELIGATE! Try to make it work, please! I want an Alita Battle Angel 2 so bad! We finally get an anime adaptation that is good (let's face it the Samurai X live action exists, we can't say we NEVER had a good anime adaptation, but Battle Angel has a female lead!!) It's not just decent or okay but a solid, good movie from an unexpected anime that so many people hadn't heard of before! You can't just leave us hanging!
I am just going to say this. Alita as a character is fantastic. You see her start from the very bottom, as literal garbage in a trash yard and through all of the manga you will see her develop. Over time you see her mature and become the protag you envision her to become. Hugo was like young love and doomed from the start. She developes and finds love with someone more on her level. The best thing about her is her ability to overcome. She is flawed like any human and she makes lots of mistakes. Like pissing off Zapan and others but she always finds a way through and becomes stronger as a character. She often has near mental breakdowns but alway finds her inner strength. She is incredibly resilient in that way. Good luck if you decide to read the manga. God Bless.
The anime was only a 45 minute movie originally. There was none of the filler. It was her rebuild, Ido's a hunter, she registers her brain as a hunter, Grew attacks, Grew attacks upgrade.
Hands down the best Live Action Adaptation of a Manga/Anime I've ever seen. Okay, I know this isn't saying much (the second-best in my book is _Ghost in the Shell)_ but this shouldn't detract from the fact that _Alita_ is a genuinely great movie. And I'm so happy that a Sequel is appearantly in the works (Producer Les Landau announced it in April).
Alita was 100% CGI all through the movie. This is seriously one of my favorite movies of the last few years. Saw it something like 12 times in a theater. One time in IMAX.
The first trailer scared me since I have a bit of a fear of certain eyes. However, once I got over that and went to see it in the theater, I thought it was so good. I just want to see unique things and good action and that’s what I got. RIP Hugo. While him dying twice is kind of ridiculous, I found it even more tragic since all the hard work to keep him alive turned out to be pointless. I’d be devastated in that situation if I was Alita. When/if a sequel ever comes, I’m likely to be there.
hugo by the way i'm not sure is dead in the movie. in the source he definitely died but there were a number of changes in his story. we saw his body cut in parts but he seemed okay otherwise and then he fell. they never showed a dead body. it wouldn't make any sense she never verified his death but movies have pulled weirder stuff off
Alita is amazing! I read the manga years ago and the film perfectly captures the look and feel of it. It's exactly what you would imagine from reading it. The only minor difference is the violence and gore is toned down. It gets messy in the manga! I kinda wish they did a different part of the story though, this segment has been done in the manga and in the anime adaptation and now in the live-action film. But I guess it is the start so it makes the most sense.
Ok so don't quote me on what I'm about to say, this is only memory from back when it came out. Cameron was going to do Alita before Avatar i think but decided to fully concentrate on Avatar. Rosa Salazar played the part of Alita, motion capture was fused with CGI so all movements and facial expressions were Rosa's. There most likely would have been a sequel but Disney bought 20th Century Fox who made Alita and they put any hope of a sequel on the back burner. At the same time Alita was coming out, Disney's/Marvel Studios Captain Marvel was coming out and they did not want Alita to take any attention away from CM, their priority and the MCU. From memory even months before the movie came out, there were many pro Disney/marvel websites and critics already bagging it out before they even watched it. The movie did better outside of the US and from memory many Americans didn't even know it existed and also had a huge problem with the size of her Eyes not being a country familiar with Manga and Alita from the original comic. This movie created a lot of talk and debate in 2019/20 on the web and the character gained a lot of love and some hate depending on what side of the fence you were.
I was unsurprised at Hugo's fate, having read the manga years before the movie came out. There is talk of a number 2, but nothing concrete. This is like the first 6 chapters, if I remember correctly. It has been years since I read the manga too. in the manga one of her features was her large eyes. If I remember the whole face was CG'd.
James Cameron and Robert Rodriguez are such fans of anime they have plans for sequels and to tell whole story if it gets green light it is anyones guess but there are talks about ABA 2
you heard that james cameron is working on movie 2-4. he said that on an interview not long ago. i loved the movie. i hope movie 2 can hold on to the action und story.
As matter of fact, "Alita: Battle Angel" is a mixture of four episodes from the original Manga "GUNNM". 1. Alita fights the serial killer who murders women at night. 2. Battle with 'Makaku', the original character of Grewishika, much more powerful and bigger. 3. A tragic love story with Hugo. (In the manga, Hugo doesn't regret his wrongdoings, never says love to Alita.) 4. Motorball sports. In the Manga, those episodes are not connected or mixed at all. They are all seprated. However, the anime was produced of 2-part series of the mixture of three stories, and Motorball doesn't even show in the anime. Unfortunately, the anime was not so good and unfortunately again, this movie is exactly based on the anime. Many fans of the Original Manga don't like Alita: Battle Angel movie so much.
@@RedPandaGirl002 // I think Alita will win. According to the manga, Her berserker body is unbelievabelly powerful and fast. Alita can equally fight the enemy dozen times bigger than her.
I've watched this movie a few times but this opened my eyes to how brutal it was. I did not remember that being done to dr. Charin nor nova stating the only way anyone can get to zalem. And thank you for mentioning the complete foolishness of not showing the dogs death but showing a boy getting cut in half. Ridiculous.
One thing I'm so glad they didn't skimp out on is that, while the Hunter-Killers are outfitted with all the weapons people could find, in her original body, Alita *was* a weapon. She was built to win wars without any external help. Would have been so easy for Hollywood to give her some stupid powerful energy cannon or something, but they kept it to the fact that her body is built to carve through people, and her innate training does the rest. It's not a perfect movie or manga adaptation, but damn to I love this film

The face design for Alita was based off Rosa Salazar from Maze Runner 2's face. The action always gets me hype because Alita was the ultimate badass!!
This is one of the most badass, and simultaneously beautiful movies I’ve ever watched. It’s SO good. I really REALLY hope they make a second edition.
I would really love and want to see Alita fight Gamora or Nebula. Would you agree?
@@RedPandaGirl002 maybe an Alita -Gamora-Nebula Hentai :)
@@aaronbarlow4376 aye whoaaaa slow down there fella 🥲😅😂
@@ShilohSmith Hey I never even mentioned the octopus. 😁
The world and character building is meant to be slow to establish everything. Her CG was great, she was so endearing and expressive. Hard not to fall in love with her.
I work in VFX and I think she looked amazing.
There’s a bunch of us fans that have been trying to get the studio to make a sequel
I like how in the manga Alita was named after his dead cat rather than daughter lmao
Becauss in manga, she love making cat's face shocked
Alita is a female name meaning “noble-natured,” “on high” or “exalted.”
YES, Haley........there SHOULD be a sequel! I HOPE it happens some day!
I completely agree.
Confirmed
Alitta is an actual actress that they changed slightly to fit the looks of the character which I find really interesting. I do love this movie though I had no idea it was based on anything. It was amazing to see it in 3d on the big screen and I found the story to be interesting as well. Good reactions as always guys and glad you did this one as well.
The eyes of Alita was because, James Cameron wanted to keep the anime look to her. Also James Cameron and his company are prepping a sequel as we speak.
Im not usually a fan of movies that run on multiple plots and are long but this 1 does it for me the longer it runs the more u find out going on
I won't lie, Alita is my favorite movie.
I want to see Alita fight either the daughters of Thanos: Gamora or Nebula
Alita vs. Gamora
or
Alita vs. Nebula
Who would win?
It is an absolute shame that there was never a sequel/trilogy for this wonderful movie. It is so rare (nowadays) for a well written female hero and Alita was awesome!
Two sequels are in production. If we are lucky maybe the first one will be out by the end of 2025.
It's the only movie that I have seen twice in a theater.
Alita battle angel doesnt get the love it deserves. Also bought it on 4k to show my support.
I wanna see her for a fight either
Alita vs. Gamora
or
Alita vs. Nebula
Who would win?
Alita from head to toe is 100% CG.
Also good news! James Cameron has seemingly confirmed that Alita: Battle Angel sequels will soon start filming in Texas
I speculate if the filming in Texas might suggest that the Badlands content of the manga might be part of the sequel? Just a guess.
James Cameron bought the rights for Electronic media adaptation in 1998 from the publisher.
I am so disappointed that we never got a sequel to this. The Edward Norton reveal made me so excited.
JC said that no matter how long it takes he is making the sequel
I'm a big fan of the manga since 2002,, it consists of three arch, the last arch isn't even finished yet until now. I have to say this is a very good adaptation to the original, I really hope we got a sequel for this too.
I like how the movie covers Books 1 and 2, and a little bit of Book 3, and the 2-part anime.
seeing this movie in 3D when it came out was sooo good
The performance capture in this movie was a test bed for the tech used to make Avatar: the way of water.
I would love to see Star Trek reactions on Your channel.
I've said it before I love how y'all are honest with films you've already seen and say so. Thank you.
5:12 The word Alita is like the diminutive of "Ala," which is the spanish word for *wing*. Is like saying Johnny for John.
I loved Alita's Sword in the Manga. it was basically a HUGE butterfly knife.
Gotta say, I was not expecting much from this movie but I actully enjoyed it!
Personally one of the best brought to life movies I’ve ever seen
Hands down the best Live Action Adaptation of a Manga/Anime I've ever seen.
Okay, I know this isn't saying much (the second-best in my book is _Ghost in the Shell)_ but this shouldn't detract from the fact that _Alita_ is a genuinely great movie. And I'm so happy that a Sequel is appearantly in the works (Producer Les Landau announced it in April).
This covers the anime version almost shot for shot.
That was Johnny Rico okay!? If you guys didnt know at 18:09.
When/if a sequel ever comes, I’m likely to be there.
hugo by the way i'm not sure is dead in the movie. in the source he definitely died but there were a number of changes in his story. we saw his body cut in parts but he seemed okay otherwise and then he fell. they never showed a dead body. it wouldn't make any sense she never verified his death but movies have pulled weirder stuff off
Alita 2 and 3 were just announced :)
Sequel has been confirmed
Alita 2 will come out
Alita battle angel is a great live action anime movie.
Alita should fight Gamora or Nebula. That definitely would be something I wanna see! 😁
This is such a good movie im so happy you guys are reacting to it
I love this movie and it was crazy to see in IMAX 3D you felt like grewishka claws were coming for you! James Cameron knows how to film movies!
They did build the sets practically. Like 6 blocks if I recall.
She should fight either Gamora or Nebula. I'd LOVE to see that happen! 😉😁
Actually "motor ball" is a lot like "Rollerball" if you have ever seen the movie from the 70s.
I highly recommend watching some behind the scenes footage. It's crazy impressive how much work went into her face alone.
Fun fact : the black guy in the movie is the new cast of the new Blade of the Marvel😁
Blade Lite
Even in the Manga characters comment on how unnaturally large and doll like Alita’s eyes are. So yeah , they leaned on the design for the live action.
Large eyes as a result of low light levels - with Mars being further away from the sun?
I do hope that James Cameron can continue one of his passion projects after the Avatar series.
I think when Hugo thanked Alita for saving him, I think he meant from his obsession with Zandar.
They have definitely talked about making a sequel to it and they want to make it just have to get Disney to get it done
you heard that james cameron is working on movie 2-4. he said that on an interview not long ago. i loved the movie. i hope movie 2 can hold on to the action und story.
(In the manga, Hugo doesn't regret his wrongdoings, never says love to Alita.)
It would be really interesting if Alita fought either Gamora or Nebula for this part.
Who would win?
@@RedPandaGirl002 // I think Alita will win.
According to the manga, Her berserker body is unbelievabelly powerful and fast.
Alita can equally fight the enemy dozen times bigger than her.
I've watched this movie a few times but this opened my eyes to how brutal it was. I did not remember that being done to dr. Charin nor nova stating the only way anyone can get to zalem.
And thank you for mentioning the complete foolishness of not showing the dogs death but showing a boy getting cut in half. Ridiculous.
Not bad for an adaptation of an anime.
This movie really has the anime feel.
It was meant to have a sequel. It's such a brilliant film but wasn't marketed enough.
This is by far one of my most favorite movies… but pacific rim will always be one top

5:10 Alita means "little wing" in spanish
I love this movie so much! ❤
In the Manga, it was said that Alita's eyes were bigger than normal.
This and Ready Player One are my favs because of how much they surprised me. I saw this one in theaters and I thought I was going to be disappointed.
