Great episode Pete and HVS guys. Currently my top 5 favorite 1973 albums would be in no particular order: The Who - Quadrophenia, King Crimson - Larks Tongue in Aspic, Zarathustra - Museo Rosenbach, Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon and Steely Dan - Countdown to Ecstasy.
Steve Keeler showing us all that we MUST watch the show until its last very second. The show was great through its 50 minutes run, but the beggining and the very end were particularly funny. The eleventh hour inclusion of Bowie's Aladdin Sane was funny AF.🤣
I remember on Metal Shop in 1986 they premiered the entire Master of Puppets on the day it was released. Also, hearing Mercyful Fate on the radio was a MAJOR deal back then.
1. Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon 2. BOC - Tyranny and Mutation 3. Hawkwind - Space Ritual 4. Elton John - Goodbye Yellow Brick Road 5. ZZ Top - Tres Hombres
1. Blue Oyster Cult - Tyranny and Mutation 2. Black Sabbath - Sabbath Bloody Sabbath 3. Genesis - Selling England By The Pound 4. Uriah Heep - Sweet Freedom 5. Buffalo - Volcanic Rock

Thank you, Ryan for championing Tales From Topographic Oceans! It is a sublime masterpiece that is criminally misunderstood and maligned. But I’ll save my rant for In the Prog Seat next week. ☺️
Nuthin' better than Ryan with the upside down crosses t-shirt picking Herbie Hancock. lol. 1. Houses of the Holy - If only they had kept the title track and lost the Crunge this would be the greatest Album of all time. 2. Dark Side of the Moon - Buy a turntable, buy the vinyl, smoke somethin' and just experience this. 3. Goodbye Yellow Brick Road - Elton John is a planetary treasure. Not the meme he has become. Bernie Taupin a lyrical genius. 4. A Passion Play - Side B (after you get past the hare) is just an incredible showcase for Ian Anderson's voice and phrasing. 5. In solidarity with Steve- Sabbath Bloody Sabbath/Aerosmith Fucking amazing albums. So I continued watching and Nick talked about Time. I have tried to convince anyone I could how sad and true this lyric was and how amazing that a 20 something came up with it. As I near my 60s it is ever present. Live your lives to the fullest all. Don't regret wasted years. Great job Nick. Tired of lying in the sunshine, staying home to watch the rain You are young and life is long, and there is time to kill today And then one day you find ten years have got behind you No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun And you run, and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking Racing around to come up behind you again The sun is the same in a relative way but you're older Shorter of breath and one day closer to death
Based on my record collection: On the Third Day - Electric Light Orchestra; ELO 2 - Electric Light Orchestra; and Queen - Queen. My favorite song off each album respectively: Bluebird is Dead; In Old England Town; and Great King Rat

Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon 3. Led Zeppelin - Houses of the Holy - Wore Side B out 4. Montrose - Debut 5. Scorpions - Lonesome Crow - Michael Schenker showcase his guitar skills
Great great show this week gentlemen!! Fortunately, or unfortunately, I’m old enough to be a high schooler in ‘73. I was constantly broke because any money I could earn went to basically two things. Albums and gas to get to the record store to by them. Week after week “must have” albums would be released. You’d have enough money to buy two but there’d be give you wanted. I could never catch up!
You're a couple of years older than me (high school for me was 1976-79) but by '73 I'd started getting into music other than The Beatles. Still about 2 years away from fusion but artists like Elton John, Joe Walsh & The Doobies had already made an impression on me, also McCartney solo
Chris K captures Tres Hombres: "...as a kid you know when you're hungry because you've inhaled some sort of forest fire that you lit in your room, it's kind of cool to look at (the big greasy pile of Tex-Mex on album sleeve) and listen..." 3Catch a Fire -Bob Marley & Wailers 2Dark Side of the Moon -Floyd 1Houses of the the Holy -Zep.
I couldn't get to five, but I managed a Top 10 (while still leaving out some genuine classics): Tyranny and Mutation - Blue Öyster Cult Countdown to Ecstasy - Steely Dan The Captain and Me - The Doobie Brothers Tres Hombres - ZZ Top Queen - Queen Innervisions - Stevie Wonder Montrose - self-titled debut Goodbye Yellow Brick Road - Elton John Quadrophenia - The Who Band on the Run - Paul McCartney and Wings
Love The Headhunters pick (by Ryan?!?, no less). :-0 Chicago VI, Stevie Wonder...great picks! Love it! I was 15 in '73, so I had much of the Hard Rock albums mentioned. Tastes change over the years...Led Zep's HOTH, "No Quarter" was something I never played. Nowadaze, it's my favourite from that album.
Here's my #1 from 1973 - Golden Earring - Moontan. Great classic rock with elements of psych, groove, prog and blues with a real edge. Really amazing album full of ideas, hooks and amazing inventive production and guitar sounds. 🎸
My 5 favorite Rock/Metal albums of '73 are: Montrose - S/T Black Sabbath - Sabbath Bloody Sabbath B.O.C. - Tyranny and Mutation Captain Beyond - Sufficiently Breathless ZZ Top - Tres Hombres Honorables (That I didn't hear): Beck, Bogart, & Appice Eagles - Desperado Joe Walsh - The Smoker You Drink, the Player You Get
Here are some other great albums from 1973 Budgie - Never turn your back on a friend Suzi Quatro - Can the can Grand Funk - Where an American band Buffalo - Volcanic Rock Status Quo - Hello Wings - Band on the run The Doobie Brothers - The captain and me

Black Sabbath played ‘Sabbath Bloody Sabbath’ when I saw them at The Astoria in London in 1999. It was absolutely incredible, it practically reduced the small venue to rubble. God they were brilliant that night.
Such a tough year to narrow down...shit! But, if I have to, my Top 5 might be: 1) Birds of Fire - Mahavishnu Orchestra 2) Head Hunters - Herbie Hancock 3) Lark's Tounge In Aspic - King Crimson 4) Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd 5) Sabbath Bloody Sabbath - Black Sabbath Next 5 (to close out a Top 10) would probably be: 6) Spectrum - Billy Cobham 7) Houses of the Holy - Led Zeppelin 8) Brain Salad Surgey - ELP 9) In a Glass House - Gentle Giant 10) Nice 'n' Greasy - Atomic Rooster
Watching the show now but before I hear picks, this is my top 5: 1. Montrose- Montrose 2. Houses of the Holy - Led Zep 3. BillIon Dollar Babies - Alice Cooper 4. Quadrophenia - The Who 5. Who Do We Think We Are - Deep Purple 5. Black Sabbath - Sabbath Bloody Sabbath 5. Tyranny and Mutation - BOC Honorable Mention: Kings of Oblivion - Pink Fairies Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd Queen - Queen
Great episode...one of your best. So glad the first Montrose LP was in the mix, easily my top one from '73. Still one of the heaviest ever produced. My other 4: 2) Johnny Winter - Still Alive & Well 3) The Who - Quadrophenia 4) Beck, Bogert & Appice 5) Bowie - Aladdin Sane. I've always felt that '71 and '73 were two of the very best years in rock history.
1. Pink Floyd- Dark Side of the Moon (fave album of all time) 2. Genesis- Selling England by the Pound (my fave Genesis record and a top 10 record of all time for me) 3. The Who -Quadrophenia 4. ELP -Brain Salad Surgery 5. Jethro Tull -A Passion Play Honorable mention: King Crimson -Larks' Tongues in Aspic 1973 was a killer year. Possibly my fave year for music. I'm a huge prog fan and that was the height of classic prog!!
Thanks to all who were on the show and sorry some of the others not available. '73 a great year. Graduated high school and took a month to travel that summer. So many albums that couldn't even afford all the ones wanted as they were released. So, going with my top 5 from records bought during 1973 rather than in a later year. And pulling a Pardo and a Keeler, going to break the rules and list the top 5 that will be used when In The Prog Seat show comes since my favorite album of the year - in fact of all time - is in the top spot of that list. Non-Prog for HSV show 1. Billion Dollar Babies - Alice Cooper 2. Goodbye Yellow Brick Road - Elton John 3. (Pronounced 'Lĕh-'nérd 'Skin-'nérd) - Lynyrd Skynyrd 4. The Captain And Me - The Doobie Brothers 5. Quadrophenia - The Who In The Prog Seat 1. A Wizard, A True Star - Todd Rundgren 2. A Passion Play - Jethro Tull 3. Dark Side Of The Moon - Pink Floyd 4. Brain Salad Surgery - Emerson, Lake and Palmer 5. Selling England By The Pound - Genesis Thanks, all, for a fun show and always thanks to Michael's highlights. His post brings laughter all over again.
1 Chicago 6 2 Tyranny & Mutation 3 Quadrophenia 4 Billion Dollar Babies 5 tie I've Got So Much To Give and Stone Gon - Barry White And thanks Chris Alo for always moving the show along!!!
Great show gents. For me (at least today) it is: 1. Pink Floyd - "Dark Side of the Moon" 2. Black Sabbath - Sabbath Bloody Sabbath 3. Rory Gallagher - "Tattoo" 4. Uriah Heep - "Sweet Freedom" 5. Eagles - "Desperado" As an HM I would be remiss indeed not to include "Space Ritual" by Hawkwind.
The Captain and Me - Doobie Brothers Stevie Wonder - Innervisions Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon Sabbath Bloody Sabbath - Black Sabbath Steely Dan - Countdown to Ecstasy
What a Year!! 1973!! 1- Dark Side of The MooN - Floyd 2- Raw PoWeR - StoogeS 3- Stevie Wonder - Innervisions 4 - Roxy Music - For Your Pleasure 5- Black Sabbath - Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
1. Status Quo - Hello 2. Black Sabbath - Sabbath Bloody Sabbath 3. Pink Floyd - Dark Side Of The Moon 4. Rory Gallagher - Tattoo 5 Nektar - Remember The Future
Sly And The Family Stone "Fresh" might be the greatest funk album of all time. 1. DSOTM 2. Innervisions 3. Fresh 4. Goodbye Yellow Brick Road 5. Red Rose Speedway
An idea I've had for the Hudson Valley Squares is to pick your favorite artist or group from each state in the US or from each country. Obviously, not every state or every country would get represented but I think it would be a cool reminder how much great music comes from different parts of the world.
Easily one of the best years ever in rock music. There were so many good releases. I may be missing a couple, but these are definitely favorites of mine, in approximate order of release date: Pink Floyd "Dark Side of the Moon," Led Zeppelin "Houses of the Holy," Yes "Yessongs," Nazareth "Razamanaz," Stevie Wonder "Innervisions," The Allman Brothers Band "Brothers and Sister," Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band "The Wild, the Innocent, and the E Street Shuffle," Renaissance "Ashes are Burning," Elton John "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road," the Who "Quadrophenia," Emerson Lake and Palmer "Brain Salad Surgery," Nazareth "Loud and Proud."
Some of my favorite not so obvious picks of 1973: - Manfred Mann's Earth Band: Solar Fire - Herbie Hancock: Sextant - Granicus: Granicus - Arthur Brown's Kingdom Come: Journey - Museo Rosenbach: Zarathustra
1973 is an amazing year : 5) Black Sabbath - Sabbath Bloody Sabbath 4) Stevie Wonder - Innervisions 3) Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon 2) David Bowie - Alladin Sane 1) Genesis - Selling England by the Pound
Montrose was the first band I saw live. They supported Quo in U.K. in 74. I didn’t realise I had seen them until I bought the Lp in 78 and someone reminded me. Bizarrely they passed me by as it was my first gig and I was only 11
All great picks! My top 5 for 1973: Dark Side of the Moon/Pink Floyd, Band on the Run/Paul McCartney and Wings, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road/Elton John (Grey Seal!!!), Innervisions/Stevie Wonder, Quadrophenia/The Who
this is so damn hard but here goes 5.Rolling Stones-Goats Head Soup 4.Uriah Heep-Sweet Freedom 3.Black Sabbath-Sabbath Bloody Sabbath 2.Jethro Tull-A Passion Play 1.Pink Floyd-Dark Side Of The Moon/Yes-Tales From Tobergraphic Oceans honorable mention Deep Purple-Who Do We Think We Are Queen-Self Titled ZZ Top-Tres Hombres
Hey Chris, I once gave a copy of The Who It’s Hard to a friends sister, with the condition she couldn’t play Athena, to accomplish this I used her finger nail polish, guaranteed it would never be played!
Being such a big hard rock and metal guy, I gotta go with Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, Never Turn Your Back on a Friend, Razamanaz, Montrose, and Loud 'n Proud. I also like Sweet Freedom and Queen S/T quite a bit.
I'm shocked that no one mentioned Moontan, my number one, and 2 Hawkwind - Space ritual! The others would be - 3 SAHB - Next, 4 Mouse - Ladykiller, 5 Deke Leonard - Iceberg, 6 Bachdenkal - Lemmings, 7 Strange - Translucent world, 8 Semiramis - Dedicato a frazz.
The Who Quadrophenia was so popular back in the day. All my friends bought it even though we had no clue to what it was all about. But when Who by Numbers came out a couple years later, it confirmed what we knew at the time…Quadrophenia was the last great record of a truly great band !!!
In no particular order: Who-Quadrophenia; Eno-Here Come The Warm Jets; John Cale-Paris 1919; John Lennon-Mind Games; Paul McCartney-Red Rose Speedway; Stevie Wonder-Innervisions. Best 1 note guitar solo: Who-I Can See For Miles. I saw ZZ Top at a sock hop in College Station TX for $1.00! They sold copies o' their 1st single: Salt Lick/Miller's Farm released on Scat Records. Check out Salt Lick!!!
First, the 70's was thee best decade for rock and heavy metal. Those were my high school years so I know what I speak. How you can pick 5? That is a tough task, shown in those Honorable Mentions mentioned. I think the biggest surprise came when Ryan noted his fifth choice. Didn't expect that one from a metal head, very cool. Thanks Christian for the Mott the Hoople love. Finally, don't piss off the King, you'll become the next SoT t-shirt! Unrelated, I watched "Special When Lit," containing HVS member Stephen Keeler, aka Mr. Orange County Pinball Club. Don't think I saw when this video was made, but it looked like late 70's, early 80's. Anyone with any interest should view it.
My top 5 of 1973: 1. Golden Earring - Moontan 2. ZZ Top - Tres Hombres 3. Lynyrd Skynyrd: Pronounced 4. Eagles : Desperado 5. Rolling Stones: Goats Head Soup
@@joeking5310 Thanks for your comment. it was Desperado or Thin Lizzy’s Vagabonds of the Western World. Choose the Eagles because of personal memories, although Vagabonds is also an album with good memories for me.😊
Thank you Pete for mentioning Who Do We Think We Are. I absolutely love this record but most don’t. I thought Razamanaz and Loud and Proud were 1974 but I checked and right you are. That was my Nazareth infatuation period as a 15 year old kid. Great show!!!
1. Doobie Brothers - Captain and Me 2. Blue Öyster Cult - Tyranny and Mutation 3. ZZ Top - Tres Hombres 4. Montrose - debut 5. Led Zeppelin - Houses of the Holy HM. Rory Gallagher - Tattoo & Wishbone Ash - Four Edit: I removed the proggy albums for the next show :)
Love most of the albums mentioned, but being 17 in ‘73,I was playing Roxy Music’s For Your Pleasure a great deal. About 50 years ahead of their time, that album and their self titled debut were huge in the UK.
I was already buying music in 1973 and I consider the music created between 1970 to 1975 as my personal high point for memorable albums. These are the five I have listened to the most over the years and still resonate the most for me. 5) Stevie Wonder - “Innervisions Stevie all grown up and a complete artist! 4) Aerosmith - “s/t The sound of a really gritty bar band. Fiery and down and dirty. 3) Queen- “s/t The seeds of what this band would become is all here. Fantastic debut. 2) Led Zeppelin- “Houses Of The Holy” Underrated. Great mix of material including The Crunge! Many don’t like this tune but it fortold songs like Custard Pie. 1) Todd Rundgren - “A Wizard A True Star” A masterpiece! Rock, Space Age Soundscapes, a Motown Soul Medley, Vaudeville, Ballads, Show tunes and also a little humor thrown in for good measure! Over 60 minutes of music cobbled together in a musical tapestry! Too much music for a single slab of vinyl so there are minor audio issues. But nothing can take away from the genius of this collection of tunes. Honorable Mention: Pink Floyd - “Dark Side Of The Moon”, Another Masterpiece. The song “Time” resonates more and more with every passing year. Grand Funk - “We’re An American Band” Shockingly awesome rebirth of this band and it works! Still has the soul and rock in’ grit but with a layer of slick production. Montrose- “s/t- The template for Van Halen. Ronnie Montrose is so underrated.
My Favourites are - (1: Made in Japan - Deep Purple. If we're including live albums) 1: Dark Side of The Moon - Pink Floyd 2: Aladdin Sane - David Bowie 3: Tres Hombres - ZZ Top 4: Goodbye Yellow Brick Road - Elton John 5 - Hello! - Status Quo
1973 was one heck of a year for music releases, so here’s my top 5 for 1973 which was tough because so many good releases that year, I also have honorable mentions 1. Aerosmith self titled 2. Allman Brothers Band Brothers and Sisters 3. ZZ Top Tres Hombre 4. Led Zeppelin Houses of the holy 5. Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon Honorable mentions; Black Sabbath Sabbath Bloody Sabbath The Doobie Brothers The Captain and me Steely Dan Countdown to Ecstasy The Rolling Stones Goats Head Soup The Who Quadrophenia Eagles Desperado Lynyrd Skynyrd Pronounced Leh-nerd Skin-nerd Paul McCartney and Wings Band on the Run Goodbye Yellow Brick Road Elton John BOC Tyranny and Mutation David Bowie Aladdin Sane

Led Zeppelin - Houses of the Holy Favorite Songs: Over the Hills and Far Away & The Ocean (Also in my top ten of favorite Zep songs) Honorable Mentions: D'yer Maker & No Quarter To Chris Alo: The song I would scratch off this album is The Crunge. I hate it w/a passion! 2. Queen - Queen I Favorite songs: Keep Yourself Alive & Seven Seas of Rhye 3. The Doobie Brothers - The Captain and Me Favorite Songs: Long Train Runnin' & China Grove 4. Lynyrd Skynyrd - Pronouced Leh-nerd Skin-nerd Favorite Song: Gimme Three Steps & Simple Man P.S. Even though this show focuses on hard rock and heavy metal, it's cool when you pick music outside the box. Keep up the good work. BTW, the Bob Marley pick was the nicest surprise of all👍
My first vinyl albums are all from 1973: Status Quo : Hello! Suzi Quatro: self titled debut Slade : Slayest. ( interesting all starting with S, even the year after, my first vinyl would be Sweet FA). And loads of 45 RPM singles : Alice Cooper, Queen, Sweet… Got into the heavier stuff a bit later (1975) with Sabbath, Purple, Budgie, Aerosmith….
1973 was the year I first started working so I could buy albums myself...here's my five... 1. Dark side of the Moon - Pink Floyd 2. Aladdin Sane - David Bowie 3. Lark's Tongues in Aspic - King Crimson 4. Moontan - Golden Earring 5. Selling England by the Pound - Genesis
Who do we think we are by Deep Purple. Criminally underrated album. Smooth Dancer is a killer track. As being a native Japanese, I love Woman from Tokyo as well.
Note 1: Impossible to list and/or rank them all, so I decided to list them based on which albums my buddy's and I listened to the most together, as opposed to the albums I listened to more at home in my room. 05. Montrose "Montrose" 04. Queen "Queen" 03. Blue Oyster Cult "Tyranny and Mutation" 02. Pink Floyd "Dark Side of the Moon" 01. Black Sabbath "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" Note 2: Otherwise, there is no way I could have omitted these: Aerosmith "Aerosmith" Alice Cooper "Billion Dollar Babies" Doobie Brothers "The Captain and Me" Genesis "Selling England By The Pound" Jethro Tull "A Passion Play" ELO "On The Third Day" ELP "Brain Salad Surgery" Renaissance "Ashes Are Burning" Styx "Styx II" Traffic "Shootout at the Fantasy Factory" ZZ Top "Tres Hombres"
Some faves from 73: Hatfield & the North s/t, Museo Rosenbach-Zarathustra, Semiramis-Dedicato a Frazz, Tubular Bells, Rick Wakeman-Six Wives, Le Orme-Felona, Henry Cow - Legend, SEPBTP, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, Quadrophenia, Tres Hombres -- P.S. Pete except for shows which start exactly same time every day/week, (like daily 9:00 AM show), having them "premiere" makes them harder for us to watch, because it starts in the middle. and you have to rewatch from beginning when it is finally fully available. Not sure if you intend this or not. Fave
5. Aerosmith - Aerosmith 4. Alice Cooper Band - Bllion Dollar Babies 3. April Wine - Electric Jewels 2. ZZ Top - Tres Hombres 1. Black Sabbath - Sabbath Bloody Sabbath honorable mentions: Alice Cooper - Muscle of Love Queen - Queen Thin Lizzy - Vagabonds of the Western World Beck, Bogart & Appice - Beck, Bogart & Appice Buffalo - Volcanic Rock plus many others \m/ \m/

Sabbath Bloody Sabbath was indeed played a few times live in the 70s including at Madison Square Garden on December 3rd 1975 and again there in 1978. Dio also performed it many times on the Heaven and Hell tour.

Good morning guys.
Watching now at 10.00 am Tuesday morning in UK 🇬🇧.

Thank you, Ryan for championing Tales From Topographic Oceans! It is a sublime masterpiece that is criminally misunderstood and maligned. But I’ll save my rant for In the Prog Seat next week. ☺️

Tired of lying in the sunshine, staying home to watch the rain
You are young and life is long, and there is time to kill today
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun
And you run, and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way but you're older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death
Based on my record collection: On the Third Day - Electric Light Orchestra; ELO 2 - Electric Light Orchestra; and Queen - Queen. My favorite song off each album respectively: Bluebird is Dead; In Old England Town; and Great King Rat

It must be tough on Chris to decide which of the Godzilla re issues to watch. Considering that he probably has at least 20 different versions of each Godzilla movie

4. Montrose - Debut
Ah what a throwback episode. Good times with HVS. You guys makes me laugh. 🙏
I couldn't get to five, but I managed a Top 10 (while still leaving out some genuine classics):
Tyranny and Mutation - Blue Öyster Cult

Tres Hombres - ZZ Top
Queen - Queen
Innervisions - Stevie Wonder
Montrose - self-titled debut
Goodbye Yellow Brick Road - Elton John
Quadrophenia - The Who
Band on the Run - Paul McCartney and Wings
Love The Headhunters pick (by Ryan?!?, no less). :-0
Chicago VI, Stevie Wonder...great picks!

Black Sabbath played ‘Sabbath Bloody Sabbath’ when I saw them at The Astoria in London in 1999. It was absolutely incredible, it practically reduced the small venue to rubble. God they were brilliant that night.

2) Head Hunters - Herbie Hancock
3) Lark's Tounge In Aspic - King Crimson

4. *Bill Withers* - ‘Live at Carnegie Hall’
5. *Iggy and the Stooges* - ‘Raw Power’
Non-Prog for HSV show
1. Billion Dollar Babies - Alice Cooper
2. Goodbye Yellow Brick Road - Elton John
3. (Pronounced 'Lĕh-'nérd 'Skin-'nérd) - Lynyrd Skynyrd

2. Black Sabbath - Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
3. Rory Gallagher - "Tattoo"
4. Uriah Heep - "Sweet Freedom"

Rory Gallagher, yes!👍
The Captain and Me - Doobie Brothers
Stevie Wonder - Innervisions
Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon

1. Status Quo - Hello

1. DSOTM
2. Innervisions
3. Fresh
4. Goodbye Yellow Brick Road
Didn't realise Razamanaz and Loud N Proud were both 73! I have both.
I completely forgot about Nazareth, this period had some of their best stuff
@@gabriellarrubia1006 yes, totally! The 3 Nazareth albums leading up to Hair of the Dog are all excellent examples of early 70's hard rock.
@@lemming9984 great albums!
@@stuarthecht8196 Yes they are.Razamanaz is my no.1 of theirs.
Some of my favorite not so obvious picks of 1973:
- Manfred Mann's Earth Band: Solar Fire
- Herbie Hancock: Sextant
- Granicus: Granicus
- Arthur Brown's Kingdom Come: Journey
- Museo Rosenbach: Zarathustra
1973 is an amazing year :
5) Black Sabbath - Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
4) Stevie Wonder - Innervisions
3) Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon
2) David Bowie - Alladin Sane
1) Genesis - Selling England by the Pound
Montrose was the first band I saw live. They supported Quo in U.K. in 74. I didn’t realise I had seen them until I bought the Lp in 78 and someone reminded me. Bizarrely they passed me by as it was my first gig and I was only 11
All great picks! My top 5 for 1973: Dark Side of the Moon/Pink Floyd, Band on the Run/Paul McCartney and Wings, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road/Elton John (Grey Seal!!!), Innervisions/Stevie Wonder, Quadrophenia/The Who
this is so damn hard but here goes
5.Rolling Stones-Goats Head Soup
4.Uriah Heep-Sweet Freedom
3.Black Sabbath-Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
2.Jethro Tull-A Passion Play
1.Pink Floyd-Dark Side Of The Moon/Yes-Tales From Tobergraphic Oceans
honorable mention
Deep Purple-Who Do We Think We Are
Queen-Self Titled
ZZ Top-Tres Hombres
Very good list!
👍Red Rose Speedway
My top 5 of 1973:
1. Golden Earring - Moontan
2. ZZ Top - Tres Hombres
3. Lynyrd Skynyrd: Pronounced
4. Eagles : Desperado
5. Rolling Stones: Goats Head Soup
I'm not sure about Desperado, but the others, yes.
1. Doobie Brothers - Captain and Me
2. Blue Öyster Cult - Tyranny and Mutation
3. ZZ Top - Tres Hombres
4. Montrose - debut
5. Led Zeppelin - Houses of the Holy
HM. Rory Gallagher - Tattoo & Wishbone Ash - Four
Edit: I removed the proggy albums for the next show :)
My Favourites are -
(1: Made in Japan - Deep Purple. If we're including live albums)
1: Dark Side of The Moon - Pink Floyd
2: Aladdin Sane - David Bowie
3: Tres Hombres - ZZ Top
4: Goodbye Yellow Brick Road - Elton John
5 - Hello! - Status Quo

My first vinyl albums are all from 1973:
Status Quo : Hello!
Suzi Quatro: self titled debut
Slade : Slayest.
( interesting all starting with S, even the year after, my first vinyl would be Sweet FA).
And loads of 45 RPM singles : Alice Cooper, Queen, Sweet…
Got into the heavier stuff a bit later (1975) with Sabbath, Purple, Budgie, Aerosmith….
1973 was the year I first started working so I could buy albums myself...here's my five...

Oh, moontan: great pick!
Who do we think we are by Deep Purple.
Criminally underrated album. Smooth Dancer is a killer track. As being a native Japanese, I love Woman from Tokyo as well.
Goodbye Yellow brick road is a great album, back when EJ was cool..
Note 1:
Impossible to list and/or rank them all, so I decided to list them based on which
albums my buddy's and I listened to the most together, as opposed to the albums I
listened to more at home in my room.
05. Montrose "Montrose"
04. Queen "Queen"
03. Blue Oyster Cult "Tyranny and Mutation"
02. Pink Floyd "Dark Side of the Moon"
01. Black Sabbath "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath"
Note 2:
Otherwise, there is no way I could have omitted these:
Aerosmith "Aerosmith"
Alice Cooper "Billion Dollar Babies"
Doobie Brothers "The Captain and Me"
Genesis "Selling England By The Pound"
Jethro Tull "A Passion Play"
ELO "On The Third Day"
ELP "Brain Salad Surgery"
Renaissance "Ashes Are Burning"
Styx "Styx II"
Traffic "Shootout at the Fantasy Factory"
ZZ Top "Tres Hombres"
