You know what I always love on the Squares? When Chris says something and Pete cannot stop laughing, long after everyone else. You can tell he really gets Chris' humour.
Early to mid-‘80’s was a great era for both. I’m more of a ‘70’s metal/hard rock guy (Purple, Rainbow, Thin Lizzy, early Scorpions and Sabbath with Ozzy) but 1982 might be the peak and genre-defining year for metal on the strength of Blackout, Beast and Vengeance
Good choices, love these 'squares' talks. Rush 'Signals' was worn out on my turntable for years. Scorpions 'Blackout' is a must have. Aldo Nova's self titled debut rocks out of my speakers still to this day. Judas Priest "Screaming for Vengeance" and Gary Moore....timeless...jewels....must haves.

Good to see the love for Number of the Beast and Battle Hymns. I am surprised that no one mentioned Anvil - Metal on Metal. I am not a huge Anvil fan, but this album brings the riffs and inspired many young metal bands.
Watching this with hindsight is great Ryan: “A little band from Canada everyone knows and loves that’s got taste, Rush! Looks at Sydney’s reaction Nothing absolutely nothing!
Great show was a lot of fun watching this live. You guys basically covered most of the great albums. My top 5 metal and rock albums from 1982- 1. Number of the beast (Enough said) 2. Scorpions-blackout (the first metal album I had completely listened to. I also feel this is jabbs best work and sometimes needs to get more credit than he does. Classic) 3. Accept-restless and wild (Love the guitar tone and very consistent. Pure heavy metal) 4. Raven-wiped out (Super underrated band and album. Very influential for speed metal and thrash. Relentless from start to finish. Catchy as hell) 5. Pagan altar-judgement of the dead (One of the pioneers of traditional doom along with witchfinder general and black Sabbath. Though the album was released much later, the songs were actually recorded in 1982. Very catchy memorable doom metal which usually gets overlooked. The vocals need some time to get used to but trust me it's a very rewarding listen. In addition, the cover of the album is so ominous and dark. Honorable mentions-michael Schenker group-assault attack (scintillating solos and memorable songs) Heavy load-death or glory (manowar style fist pumping anthemic heavy metal. Very consistent and often overlooked).
1. Pagan Altar - Judgement of the Dead 2. Rush - Signals 3. Dead Kennedys - Plastic Surgery Disasters 4. Witchfinder General - Death Penalty 5. Discharge - Hear Nothing, See Nothing, Say Nothing
Hey guys just about catching up with the video's managed a double back to back night with the Hudson Valley Squares and i have had a great time...also people chill!! Butch and Lynne are awesome and it's so nice that they have their banter...I'm the same with my best pal he's like a younger brother to me but if i didn't take the piss he would think something was wrong. People get way too offended these days, sheesh!! Hope you catch you live soon!! Time difference sucks lol my top 6 albums of 1982 (couldn't do just 5 as i can't leave any of these out) 1. Mechanix - UFO 2. Signals - Rush 3. The Number Of The Beast - Iron Maiden 4. Screaming For Vengeance - Judas Priest 5. Dawn Patrol - Night Ranger 6. Eye Of The Tiger - Survivor See you next week Pete, Ryan, Nick (In Spirit), Chris, Steve, Butch, Lynne and Sydney....have a good week everyone :) Nick xxx
Nick...great to see that you "get" Lynne & I. We have been friends for 37 years, you should see us when we are together or on the phone! Lol. Or see the texts!!! Hahahaha. No one seems to notice the smirk or smile on my face as I tell her to shut up or when she calls me a Dick, she's smiling! Have you seen either of us get mad? No..cuz we're laughing WITH each other! Good On Ya!!!
@@butchjones3497 No problem at all mate watching how this show has grown, Pete has done a great job getting everyone together and not a lot happens Monday - Thursday even when we weren't locked down so being able to grab a beer and watch the Squares just shooting the breeze and talking about what we all love, music. It feels good and i sleep a lot better at night doing this than scrolling on my phone till 3am. Keep on keeping on i have a feeling with a lot of new folk who don't quite get the concept of the channel yet Pete may have to lay down the law from time to time. But its all part of the fun and we've all been brought together with one thing in common, our love for music. :)
Right on Lady’s = seen Van Halen on Diver Down tour at the Cow Palace they were the biggest band in the world at that time. Tickets were $11.50, I was in 10th grade ~ GOOD TIMES!!!
Wassup yall. Chris is the Kevin James of this show. Love u Lynn and my boy Butch. Love u all . Hope Nicks awwright. Sydney fine as always and i listen to your podcast. Much love from tha South!
Hearing you guys have to explain why you're being human and messing with one another is truly heartbreaking. It just puts another dent into my aleady-diminishing "respect" for the human race.
I don't think Americans understand Venom. Firstly they were funny. The whole thing was tongue in cheek. Venom were taking the piss. Having a laugh. Yes it was a good little album but it was fun. And here we are, years later. Americans taking it all so very seriously.
Awesome picks by everyone as always. My five favorites from 1982 are 1. The Number of the Beast- Iron Maiden 2. Under the Blade- Twisted Sister 3. Iron Fist- Motörhead 4. Blackout- Scorpions 5. Screaming For Vengeance- Judas Priest A lot of kickin’ albums came out in 1982. A truly great year🤘🏼🤘🏼

Didnt know we were doing live albums aswell - speak is my fave live record of the 80s too - brad gillis tone is stupendous - loved the noodling - band is on fire - sounds epic - blackfoot highway song live aswell
What a stellar year for music and with the advent of MTV bands were becoming video artists so many great albums from this year some of my top picks are Hughes/thrall, Peter Gabriel security, simple minds new gold dream, 38 special special forces, tom Petty long after dark, streetheart self titled, harlequin one false move and so many other good ones to pick from
KISS: Creatures Of The Night Iron Maiden: Number Of The Beast Judas Priest: Screaming For Vengeance Michael Jackson: Thriller Prince: 1999 Scorpions: Blackout Rush: Signals
My Top 20: 1. Judas Priest - Screaming for Vengeance 2. KISS - Creatures of the Night 3. Rainbow - Straight Between the Eyes 4. Twisted Sister - Under the Blade 5. Gary Moore - Corridors of Power 6. Scorpions - Blackout 7. Vandenberg - Vandenberg 8. Accept - Restless and Wild 9. Venom - Black Metal 10. Diamond Head - Borrowed Time 11. Coney Hatch - Coney Hatch 12. Sammy Hagar - Three Lock Box 13. Anvil - Metal on Metal 14. Hughes/Thrall - Hughes/Thrall 15. MSG - Assault Attack 16. Iron Maiden - The Number of the Beast 17. The Plasmatics - Coup d'etat 18. Riot - Restless Breed 19. Witchfinder General - Death Penalty 20. Y&T - Black Tiger So many more, good year! I feel your fucking pain, Sydney! It drives me crazy that I never got to see and will never see all these iconic shows and tours! Ugh!
Chris is killing me with his Brad Gillis rant! Also, Chris mentioning Mayhem led to me discovering that on the Wikipedia page for their former singer Dead, there is a picture of Dead and Euronymous with a note saying not to call Euronymous "also Dead".
Thx!!! Their 1st 2 are brilliant! My Brotha Snowy Shaw kills on them....and then there's the great Mike Wead on guitar! He never gets talked about and he's amazing!!
@@butchjones3497 I agree. Fantastic albums! Snowy plays the weirdest drum set-up I've seen in metal in the video for 'I am'. Great drummer! Glad to hear you like Mike Wead. Truly underappreciated. Both him and Lars in Candlemass grew up in the same small town in northern Sweden as I did. It was awesome listening to their music growing up, since there wasn't many metal guitarists from up north back then. Can't wait for the coming King Diamond album to hear Mike and Andy go at it!
Damn Pete! You weren't kidding with the Todd La Torre recommendation. I hadn't heard anything about this new album, so I checked it out and it is killer! Thanks.
I think that album gets an unfair amount of slack. Is it peak DLR Van Halen? No, but I still really dig that album. Like you said, the covers are fun (Dancing in the street and Pretty Woman I never get sick of and where have all the good times gone is awesome), and the original are great, my favorite being full bug hands down
Favorite 1982 albums are 1. Iron Maiden-Number of the Beast 2. Judas Priest-Screaming For Vengeance 3. Kiss-Creatures of the Night 4. Accept-Restless and Wild 5. Vandenberg -S/T (Sidney is right that is an awesome album!). 6. Rush-Signals 7. Mercyful Fate-Nuns have no fun 8. Uriah Heep-Abominog (Terribly underrated album) 9. The Cure-Pornography (I know it’s out of place with the other stuff on this list but as a fan of dark wave it does something for me) 10. Devo-Oh no it’s Devo (Another album that’s out of place here on my list but it’s truly a bizarre album that I never get sick of)
My top 5: 1 Judas Priest - Screaming for Vengeance (my all time favorite album) 2 Scorpions - Blackout (easily in my top 5 all time) 3 Iron Maiden - The Number of the Beast 4 Night Ranger - Dawn Patrol 5 Sammy Hagar - Standing Hampton
Dokken Donuts for the win! I love Sydney, and i feel bad she missed the old shows. But she is young, and that's just about the only good thing about being old: we got to see all those bands live. But you get to carry the torch.
Whitesnake - Saints & Sinners BOC - Extraterrestrial Live KISS - Creatures of the Night honorable mention: Scorpions - Blackout Rainbow - Straight Between the Eyes I still have all of these. I still LISTEN to all of these.
Reading through the comments, most listeners agree ASIA debut should’ve been discussed. I can’t believe nobody brought up special forces by .38 special! And ALDO NOVA was a pop metal classic! So many hair metal bands that followed owe a debt of gratitude to that release as the blueprint going forward.
I hear the Kiss influence everywhere so I can listen to Venom all day, if there's easy listening for this type of heavy music Venom it is...there's just something 'attractive' about them.
“Does anyone remember the Fillmore East? I used to get shit faced every night, man. Fuckin’ groupies, huh?” Love Speak of the Devil!! So heavy. Believe it or not, that was my intro to Sabbath. I was only ten and will never forget first hearing that and not being able to get the songs out of my head. When I finally heard the Sabbath versions, they sounded so much more “softer!” Lol
I thought he was saying "the old film Maurice" for probably 40 years. Now I feel like an idiot. Never heard of any movie called "Maurice" but who the hell knew?
@@kevinmadden3396 That’s hilarious. You’re not the only one. I remember having this same convo with a high school friend in the 80s. We were doing Ozzy imitations back then based on the stuff he says on that album. He thought the “film” was called “Mauriced.” I remember saying, “what the hell do you think mauriced means and have you ever seen that movie?”
My top 10 albums from 1982 1. Scorpions '- Blackout 2. Michael Jackson - Thriller 3. Iron Maiden - The Number Of The Beast 4. Toto - Toto IV 5. Duran Duran - Rio 6. Van Halen - Diver Down 7. Rainbow - Straight Between The Eyes 8. Whitesnake - Saints And Sinners 9. Y & T - Black Tiger 10. Judas Priest - Screaming For Vengeance
I graduated High School in 1982. Listened to the'82 B'zz- Get up album.. It was in heavy rotation on the radio in the Chicago land area. Coney Hatch's self title album came out that year as well. It was pretty good. The singer remind me of Lou Graham. Sammy Hagar's 3 lock box was really good. Me and my friend used to listen to the '82 Nugent album alot. Riot's Restless Breed was awesome as well.
Creatures of the Night is my #1. That made me think. Why don't you do an episode about KISS?? They got both haters as true fans and you can't deny their influence on hardrock and metal. Would be nice to hear all your opinions
The Squares covered the hard and heavy albums, so I will mix it up with these top 3: 3) Thomas Dolby - Golden Age of Wireless 2) Toto - Toto IV 1) Asia - Asia
💯% agreement on ASIA debut💪🏆Funny story about Thomas Dolby, who was highly critical about ASIA in the press. As part of the British new wave scene, I think they wanted to distance themselves from the “dinosaurs”. And also, Genesis drummer Phil Collins was quoted in the press saying that ASIA drummer Carl Palmer played like a white guy with no soul🙄 well yeah Phil, a completely different style of music!
Mike Oldfield: "Five Miles Out" Roxy Music: "Avalon" Rush: "Signals" The Who: "It's Hard" Siouxsie and the Banshees: "A Kiss in the Dreamhouse" Frank Zappa: "Ship Arriving Too Late to Save a Drowning Witch"
I was at that Van Halen Nassau Coliseum show Butch, 4th row...and if u remember, there was 2 kids that were sat on edge of the stage during happy trails, i was one of those kids, total great moment for me, that show is on youtube as well I also saw that tull sword tour at Nassau Coliseum
All excellent picks by everyone! 1982 was the transition year: peak of NWOBHM was over, the flame just crossed over to North America where Heavy Metal was about to become massive. I can’t believe that Anvil’s Metal on Metal wasn’t mentioned. Real first proto trash! Best album of 82: Rapid Tears: Honestly. One hit wonder, but probably the heaviest most advanced album of that year. So many other bands released fabulous albums: Coney Hatch Loudness Sinner Vardis The Rods (wild dogs, their best) Riot (restless breed with the amazing Rhett) Manilla Road Gaskin (I love No way out) Gamma 3 Raven Bodine (bold as brass) and Picture, both from Holland Diamond Head (borrowed time) Two releases by Japan’s Bow Wow And from my country, Belgian’s answer to Motörhead: Killer’s wall of sound + at least 10 more I don’t remember Oh yeah the Hughes/Thrall
IMO Chris and Ryan for the win 1A. Misfits Walk Among Us 1B. Dead Kennedys Plastic Surgery Disasters 2. Descendents Milo goes to College 3. Fear The Record 4. Bad Brains Bad Brains 5. Bad Religion How can Hell be any Worse 6. Iron Maiden The Number of the Beast 7. Discharge Hear Nothing... 8. Accept Restless and Wild 9. Judas Priest Screaming for Vengeance 10. Angry Samoans Back from Samoa 11. The Exploited Troops of Tomorrow 12. Fast Times at Ridgemont High Soundtrack 13. GBH City Baby Attacked by Rats 14. Venom Black Metal 15. Motorhead Iron Fist
Nick and Ryan are also too young to have attended those gigs Butch is talking about. So she’s not all alone there. And yes, I‘d rather be Sydney’s age again and not having seen Slayer and Metallica in 89 and 90, respectively. Nothing left of these concerts than some blurry memories and a tinnitus. And by the way, there’s plenty of good new music today for the younger people, just not in the charts, so you have to look for them even more than back in the day. But that’s what music magazines are for.
Haha..it's my Monday Evening enjoyment to tease her about the shows! It's a Right Of Passage!! It was done to me when I was younger (tho I started going to shows when I was 10, so I didn't miss too much), missing Lizzy, 70's Aerosmith, Led Zep, 70's Boston...
@@butchjones3497 I am a year older than her. So I feel her pain too haha! Oh how I would've loved to see Def Leppard with Pete Willis, AC/DC in the 80s, Iron Maiden on the World Slavery tour, and Metallica on the Black album tour.
great stuff i love the hudson valley stuff --ok plz review new ALICE COOPER wow SCREAMING FOR VENGEANCE THATS ALL I REMEMBER lol the party was on 20 years old and who can forget first time they saw "noone like you " scorps BLACKOUT DId KROKUS HEADHUNTER come out in 82 ? "screaming in the night " video stunning back then too
Laurie Anderson - Big Science Captain Beefheart and the Magic band - Ice cream for Crow Sparks - Angst in my Pants Donald Fagen - The Nightfly Andy Summers & Robert Fripp - I Advance Masked Meat Puppets debut Bauhaus - The Sky's gone out Motorhead - Iron Fist
My favourites: Eric Stewart-Flooty Rooties Solo album from guitarist from 10cc only on Lp The Buggles-Adventures In Modern recording 10cc-Live 1982 The Alan Parsons Project-Eye in the Sky Asia-Asia Toto IV Jethro Tull-The Broadsword and the beast
Diver Down is a great album, slightly rushed production as the story goes, but they own the covers. The vibes, feel and music rises up. Eddies playing on it is as good as any VH release in my opinion. Good pick.
Glad to see some more love for Diver Down. I really dig that album and like Sydney, that’s a hill I’ll gladly die on. Fun covers (never get sick of Dancing in the street or pretty woman and where have all the good times gone is awesome) and there’s some AWESOME originals on there. My personal favorite being full bug
Shout out to Ryan and Chris for flying the punk flag with the Discharge,GBH,Misfits, and Plasmatics picks. Does this old rocker's heart good! P.S. to Ryan- surprised at no at least honorable mention for Manilla Road's Metal album.
Creatures of the Nights was skimmed over too quickly. (I love the 4 new tracks on Killers too). Top 5: Balance - In For the Count; Magnum - Chase the Dragon; Saga - In Transit; Cheap Trick - One on One; Hughes Thrall - self titled; Honourable mentions: Toto - IV; Shanghai - self titled; Frank Zappa - Ship Arriving...; Mother's Finest - Iron Age; Hanoi Rocks - Self Destruction Blues; John Cougar - American Fool; Kansas - Vinyl Confessions; Journey - Escape; Billy Squier - Emotions in Motion; 707 - Megaforce; Saxon - The Eagle has Landed; Shooting Starr - III Wishes

My top 5 metal and rock albums from 1982-

The vocals need some time to get used to but trust me it's a very rewarding listen. In addition, the cover of the album is so ominous and dark.
Honorable mentions-michael Schenker group-assault attack (scintillating solos and memorable songs)
Heavy load-death or glory (manowar style fist pumping anthemic heavy metal. Very consistent and often overlooked).
Great story about Happy Trails. Got me in the feels.
1. Pagan Altar - Judgement of the Dead
2. Rush - Signals
3. Dead Kennedys - Plastic Surgery Disasters
4. Witchfinder General - Death Penalty
Time difference sucks lol
my top 6 albums of 1982 (couldn't do just 5 as i can't leave any of these out)
1. Mechanix - UFO
2. Signals - Rush
3. The Number Of The Beast - Iron Maiden
4. Screaming For Vengeance - Judas Priest
5. Dawn Patrol - Night Ranger
6. Eye Of The Tiger - Survivor
See you next week Pete, Ryan, Nick (In Spirit), Chris, Steve, Butch, Lynne and Sydney....have a good week everyone :)
Nick xxx
@@nicholasadams9881 🤘🏿😉
Great call on Avalon. Amazing vocals on that record
Right on Lady’s = seen Van Halen on Diver Down tour at the Cow Palace they were the biggest band in the world at that time. Tickets were $11.50, I was in 10th grade ~ GOOD TIMES!!!
Ah! The first album that came to my mind when I saw 1982 in the description was Venom Black Metal! Well done Chris!
thank you!!
I love all your list and your banter! Thank you! I too Love Speak of The Devil! It is a razor shape take on Sabbath. The energy is off the charts🤘😃🤘
Has become one of my most looked forward too shows...great Chemistry.
Wassup yall. Chris is the Kevin James of this show. Love u Lynn and my boy Butch. Love u all . Hope Nicks awwright. Sydney fine as always and i listen to your podcast. Much love from tha South!
Thx Chad!!! \m/ Nick just had to work, he's got a new shift. He's good
Hearing you guys have to explain why you're being human and messing with one another is truly heartbreaking. It just puts another dent into my aleady-diminishing "respect" for the human race.
Seems everyone is offended at everything these days, even here.
I don't think Americans understand Venom. Firstly they were funny. The whole thing was tongue in cheek. Venom were taking the piss. Having a laugh. Yes it was a good little album but it was fun. And here we are, years later. Americans taking it all so very seriously.
Most Americans understood they were clowns of limited musical talent. We took King Diamond more seriously in his satanism.

So many more, good year! I feel your fucking pain, Sydney! It drives me crazy that I never got to see and will never see all these iconic shows and tours! Ugh!
Thanks for the Desert Song recommendation...ripper!
Chris is killing me with his Brad Gillis rant!
Also, Chris mentioning Mayhem led to me discovering that on the Wikipedia page for their former singer Dead, there is a picture of Dead and Euronymous with a note saying not to call Euronymous "also Dead".
Big props to Butch for rocking that Memento Mori shirt. Underrated band.
The year I was born. Great year.
Damn Pete! You weren't kidding with the Todd La Torre recommendation. I hadn't heard anything about this new album, so I checked it out and it is killer! Thanks.
"Diver Down" may be half covers, but the originals are all absolute fire. The covers are pretty fun, to be honest.
I think that album gets an unfair amount of slack. Is it peak DLR Van Halen? No, but I still really dig that album. Like you said, the covers are fun (Dancing in the street and Pretty Woman I never get sick of and where have all the good times gone is awesome), and the original are great, my favorite being full bug hands down
Agreed! Not a bad album. Hang em’ High is on there which is one of the best VH songs ever written.
Favorite 1982 albums are
1. Iron Maiden-Number of the Beast
2. Judas Priest-Screaming For Vengeance
3. Kiss-Creatures of the Night
4. Accept-Restless and Wild
5. Vandenberg -S/T (Sidney is right that is an awesome album!).
6. Rush-Signals
7. Mercyful Fate-Nuns have no fun
8. Uriah Heep-Abominog (Terribly underrated album)
9. The Cure-Pornography (I know it’s out of place with the other stuff on this list but as a fan of dark wave it does something for me)
10. Devo-Oh no it’s Devo (Another album that’s out of place here on my list but it’s truly a bizarre album that I never get sick of)
@@infernicide666 Exactly. "Hang 'Em High" and "Little Guitars" are both stunning tracks.
Diver down is way more interesting than any other hard rock records of 1982 in my opinion
My top 5:
1 Judas Priest - Screaming for Vengeance (my all time favorite album)
2 Scorpions - Blackout (easily in my top 5 all time)
3 Iron Maiden - The Number of the Beast
4 Night Ranger - Dawn Patrol
5 Sammy Hagar - Standing Hampton
Enjoyed the show but Missing Magnums Chase the Dragon and Saxon? ? Great discussion look forward to the next Monday cheers 🤘
Glad to see Witchfinder General and Mercyful Fate get some attention.
Both would be top five on my 82 list
Dokken Donuts for the win! I love Sydney, and i feel bad she missed the old shows. But she is young, and that's just about the only good thing about being old: we got to see all those bands live. But you get to carry the torch.
My top 3 1982 Diamond Head borrowed time Saxon eagle has landed live Judas Priest screaming for vengeance
Your all Great - Great to have you all Together
Brilliant show, we get the fun side, love it 👍
Iron Maiden - Number Of The Beast
KISS - Creatures Of The Night
Van Halen - Diver Down
Rush - Signals
Ozzy Osbourne - Speak Of The Devil
Speak of the Devil - what guitarist was that ?
@@seagullpoet Brad Gillis, from Night Ranger.
Just bought the brand new digital remastered CD on eBay !
@@seagullpoet Nice! It's an awesome record, I like Gillis's playing on it.
Best episode ever. Can’t wait for 83.
"Nuns have no fun" an uncut gem !!!!!!
Great show again
I will add Wild Dogs by The Rods and the first Asia album were great releases that year.
Whitesnake - Saints & Sinners
BOC - Extraterrestrial Live
KISS - Creatures of the Night
honorable mention:
Scorpions - Blackout
Rainbow - Straight Between the Eyes
I still have all of these.
Venom black metal is the best album of 82 love em or hate them they are original and I love them!
I hear the Kiss influence everywhere so I can listen to Venom all day, if there's easy listening for this type of heavy music Venom it is...there's just something 'attractive' about them.
Diver Down is awesome Lynne
The end of "Little Guitars" alone is enough to make me love it.
“Does anyone remember the Fillmore East? I used to get shit faced every night, man. Fuckin’ groupies, huh?”
Love Speak of the Devil!!
My top 10 albums from 1982
1. Scorpions '- Blackout
2. Michael Jackson - Thriller
3. Iron Maiden - The Number Of The Beast
4. Toto - Toto IV
5. Duran Duran - Rio
6. Van Halen - Diver Down
7. Rainbow - Straight Between The Eyes
8. Whitesnake - Saints And Sinners
9. Y & T - Black Tiger
One of the better albums of 1982, for sure.
The Squares covered the hard and heavy albums, so I will mix it up with these top 3:
3) Thomas Dolby - Golden Age of Wireless
2) Toto - Toto IV
1) Asia - Asia
💯% agreement on ASIA debut💪🏆Funny story about Thomas Dolby, who was highly critical about ASIA in the press. As part of the British new wave scene, I think they wanted to distance themselves from the “dinosaurs”. And also, Genesis drummer Phil Collins was quoted in the press saying that ASIA drummer Carl Palmer played like a white guy with no soul🙄 well yeah Phil, a completely different style of music!
One of Our Submarines is a great song from Thomas Dolby. I have it on vinyl and it's amazing!
Thomas Dolby!! Great pick!!!
Mike Oldfield: "Five Miles Out"
Roxy Music: "Avalon"
Rush: "Signals"
The Who: "It's Hard"
Siouxsie and the Banshees: "A Kiss in the Dreamhouse"
Frank Zappa: "Ship Arriving Too Late to Save a Drowning Witch"
I was at that Van Halen Nassau Coliseum show Butch, 4th row...and if u remember, there was 2 kids that were sat on edge of the stage during happy trails, i was one of those kids, total great moment for me, that show is on youtube as well
I also saw that tull sword tour at Nassau Coliseum
All excellent picks by everyone! 1982 was the transition year: peak of NWOBHM was over, the flame just crossed over to North America where Heavy Metal was about to become massive.
I can’t believe that Anvil’s Metal on Metal wasn’t mentioned. Real first proto trash!
Best album of 82: Rapid Tears: Honestly. One hit wonder, but probably the heaviest most advanced album of that year.
So many other bands released fabulous albums:
Coney Hatch
Loudness
Sinner
Vardis
The Rods (wild dogs, their best)
Riot (restless breed with the amazing Rhett)
Manilla Road
Gaskin (I love No way out)
Gamma 3
Raven
Bodine (bold as brass) and Picture, both from Holland
Diamond Head (borrowed time)
Two releases by Japan’s Bow Wow
And from my country, Belgian’s answer to Motörhead: Killer’s wall of sound
+ at least 10 more I don’t remember
Oh yeah the Hughes/Thrall
1. Restless And Wild - Accept
2. The Number Of The Beast - Iron Maiden
3. Never Surrender - Triumph
It doesn't get much better than Number of the Beast, Screaming for Vengence & Blackout.
IMO Chris and Ryan for the win
1A. Misfits Walk Among Us
1B. Dead Kennedys Plastic Surgery Disasters
2. Descendents Milo goes to College
3. Fear The Record
4. Bad Brains Bad Brains
5. Bad Religion How can Hell be any Worse
6. Iron Maiden The Number of the Beast
7. Discharge Hear Nothing...
8. Accept Restless and Wild
9. Judas Priest Screaming for Vengeance
10. Angry Samoans Back from Samoa
11. The Exploited Troops of Tomorrow
12. Fast Times at Ridgemont High Soundtrack
13. GBH City Baby Attacked by Rats
14. Venom Black Metal
15. Motorhead Iron Fist
Love these guys they are hilarious and when Chris goes well everybody has ten freaking albums lol
A great watch, as always :-)
My Top Three:
1) Miles Davis - We Want Miles
2) Prism - Visions [Japanese Band]
3) Cold Chisel - Circus Animals
Poor thing, Sydney has to hear Butch brag about the great concerts he attended before she was born!
but they"re all mid 50"s or more, she's 21, the gift of youth
@@chriswoosley3883 Yeah too bad the music for the younger generation sucks and she's a year younger than me!
Sparks - Angst in my Pants
Donald Fagen - The Nightfly
Andy Summers & Robert Fripp - I Advance Masked
Meat Puppets debut
Bauhaus - The Sky's gone out
Motorhead - Iron Fist
Terrific list...I wouldn't change a thing
Great list! Bauhaus is a name rarely mentioned on here. Great pick. Love the Sparks, Donald Fagen and Captain Beefheart picks as well.
always love to hear it when our Dutch guitar hero Adje van den Berg
My favourites:
Eric Stewart-Flooty Rooties Solo album from guitarist from 10cc only on Lp
The Buggles-Adventures In Modern recording
10cc-Live 1982
The Alan Parsons Project-Eye in the Sky
Asia-Asia
Toto IV
Jethro Tull-The Broadsword and the beast
Diver Down is a great album, slightly rushed production as the story goes, but they own the covers. The vibes, feel and music rises up. Eddies playing on it is as good as any VH release in my opinion. Good pick.
Glad to see some more love for Diver Down. I really dig that album and like Sydney, that’s a hill I’ll gladly die on. Fun covers (never get sick of Dancing in the street or pretty woman and where have all the good times gone is awesome) and there’s some AWESOME originals on there. My personal favorite being full bug
Agree on all accounts.
Plus it contains "Little Guitars"!
Van Halen brothers said that was a “ Dave “ album. Dave could be bossy.
Definitely the weakest of the Dave era though. I don’t count the newer one with him though.
Hughes & Thrall was my favorite album of 1982
Shout out to Ryan and Chris for flying the punk flag with the Discharge,GBH,Misfits, and Plasmatics picks. Does this old rocker's heart good! P.S. to Ryan- surprised at no at least honorable mention for Manilla Road's Metal album.
thank you!
Great shirt Butch!
Rush - Signals
Krokus - One Vice At A Time
Night Ranger - Dawn Patrol
Kiss - Creatures of the Night
Great picks! Night Ranger!! Krokus!!
Creatures of the Nights was skimmed over too quickly. (I love the 4 new tracks on Killers too).
Top 5: Balance - In For the Count; Magnum - Chase the Dragon; Saga - In Transit; Cheap Trick - One on One; Hughes Thrall - self titled;
