Now it's two years that he announced he is releasing a new album. Then he did it again few month later again at Jimmy Fallon. Then Timbaland announced that they finished the album at its on Justin Timberlake when he release it. An now after that another 5 month have passed. I mean....why? Just announce it if you are close releasing it. I mean....2 years. Come on.

I've always felt FutureSex/LoveSounds sounded like an album ahead of its time sonically and in many ways I still do. If Usher can do a Confessions 2, Justin came can do something like a FutureSex 2 album himself. I just hope he can successfully pull that off because to me, it's still the best album he's ever done and you don't want to get stuck as a pop musician in a rut you can't get out of if you're not truly inspired.
It seems as though he originally was going with something different like he said in Zane Lowe's Essentials interview. It was supposed to be darker in tone - or as he put it "Zero Dark Thirty - not going to be anything nice". But it seems to me that with the hot water media JT has been in post-Man of the Woods and how he's been seen in the media that the original plans he had to have a darker sound for that album have stopped altogether. Seems that he figured it'd be safe for his career to do what Timbaland described as "fun Justin" and "FS Part 2".
Overall, I think that's a smart move. Just because you can make darker-sounding songs, doesn't mean you should make a whole album that is more tonally dark. Not everything will be Cry Me a River and dark sounds is NOT his bread and butter. That's not who he is as an artist. Keep the urban flair and soulful tones you have. Stick with what you're good at and make people love it.
At times, I do still want to hear Justin apart from Timbaland and Pharrell more so I can hear him in a different way with different production. But that doesn't seem like it will ever happen. It'm fine with it now. Justin has chosen his tribe and his lane. That's just who he is. He has a tall order in making a FutureSex Part 2-style album but I'm curious to see if he has the vibe and the production to pull it off, let alone dance the way he could back then. He was at peak performance back during the Sexyback Era.

"Fun" is what people want from Justin anyways.
"Can't Stop the Feeling" is the only true blockbuster song JT's had in a decade, and it's rather surprising he didn't try to do more of it in Man of the Woods.

    • @talon3684
      @talon3684 Год назад +1

@@raveoreynolds6049 well the problem is at times that Justin has lacked substance. He had it on Justified with Britney's breakup but has been fairly surface or basic when folks have been wanting to pull something different from him. But where his career is at, he knows he needs to get back in his lane and get back his momentum. That's why we are back to this

@@talon3684 I honestly don't think Justin cares that much about success anymore, that's what he said in 2014 at least. And since then he's done the soundtrack for a kids movie, mainly for his own kid he said, and also a country album in a time when country wasn't very popular at all. And after that another kids movie and some random features for smaller artists, as well some acting jobs even though his mainstream successful acting career is probably long gone at this point. And mainly he just seems to spend time with his family. So I think he basically just does whatever he wants to do now, and that he doesn't really even consider what will be commercially successful, hip, trendy, or cool right now. Some artists, like MJ, always try to adapt their sound to current trends to stay cool with the kids to ensure longevity and commercial success. Other artists, like JT and Bruno Mars, just keep doing whatever kind of music they feel like doing. And it's actually kind of amazing how much longevity JT had despite ignoring every trend since 2008 basically. Mirrors had beatboxing in 2013, Can't stop the feeling was a disco song in 2016, and Man of the woods had everything from dubstep to country to rock in 2018, basically every sound that wasn't popular that year.
I respect this attitude of his in a sense, but I think it's a shame in another sense. It would have been cool to see what he could do with EDM while that was going on, or rap/trap while that was so popular. And right now I really REALLY wanna see what JT can do with modern disco and 80's style music since that has been so popular for the past few years, and it fits Justin very well since he's already made disco and retro songs in the past. But sadly I think he will just ignore current trends again and do his own thing completely, stuck in 2006 :( And the album will probably flop harder than Man of the woods, partly because of the years that have passed since his last hits, and also the negative media attention he's been getting. Even if he goes for a modern disco/80's sound he will probably wait so long to release the new album that the disco/80's sound has stopped being popular. He already sold his entire catalog so I think he's basically semi retired at this point, but the result is that he doesn't seem to try his best anymore, not with the dances at least, and that kind of stuff bugs me, he seems to take his success for granted, where before he would give it his all in whatever he did.
If he's not gonna aim for chart success anyways and just do what he wants to do, I would honestly prefer that he did this dark personal album that he planned to release initially. That sounds new and interesting at least, I always wanted him to have more personal lyrics and do more dark songs since those are often my favorites of his when he does it. I don't want a Futuresex 2, we basically already had that in 20/20 part 2 which sounded a lot like the Futuresex sound in many ways.

@@LeonLindProductions This was great. Appreciate your perspective. Really do. You're gonna make me really type and as a writer and a person who likes conversation, I like that lol. I agree with a lot of what you said. I do definitely think JT still cares about success still from the standpoint of his musical legacy. I've heard him say in an interview that he's always going to want to do music and always going to want to do movies. (His movie opportunities might've dried up at this point.) Remember, he's been groomed in entertainment since the Mickey Mouse Club days. His work is his passion. And I feel like it's hard for him not to want to be included in those things. But I agree with you, musically, he's not really going with any trend - he really hasn't been since FutureSex/LoveSounds. I feel that's mainly worked due to his popularity... but the man can make hits. When you look at 20/20 Experience and how he rushed that album basically making 20 songs in 20 days and still managed to make several gems in there, he and his team are gifted. I'm not the biggest fan of that album but he proved he doesn't need to take very long at all to make a hit. He just needs to be ready and inspired. It may not all be quality but he's gonna find a diamond. And Bruno, the way he wins is by staying in the throwback lane. Whether it's Motown, 70s hybrid, 90s R&B, doo-wops, his stuff as Silk Sonic with Anderson.Paak... dude stays vintage and plays to his strengths vocally with his sound. He sounds like a complete product of that era with a touch of modern flair. It's hard to pinpoint what a Bruno tapped into a 2023 era of music would even sound like right now. Maybe similar songs from Unorthodox Jukebox like When I Was Your Man or Gorilla would be like his vibe for now, I really don't know.
I'm with you on wishing Justin would explore other music areas. I like all the genres you mentioned. I feel like he dabbled maybe in some of those genres in singles from different duets he's had in-between albums such as The Other Side with SZA. Seems at times he'll lend himself to different genres by collabing with other artists but locks into his own sound for the solo albums. His latest with Coco Jones' song ICU is a lock for modern R&B. I believe he originally produced that song for her anyway. But for me, I wish he'd work with a new producer per album. Rick Rubin would be interesting, Will.I.Am would be so great between what they've already done in Where Is the Love and Damn Girl, French musician Breakbot, even just a song or two from Stargate could be fresh although that's Ne-Yo's guys and he might not let that happen lol..... but I definitely want to see him mix it up too. Diversify the sound even more so.
Regarding this new album, Timbo and Justin have been focused on BeatClub and so these beats are coming a bunch of talent from all over, as they jigsaw puzzle together what is making the sound of this album but I agree with you, I think he'll ignore current trends again and do his own thing. What's interesting is Bruno does that but goes back in time and Justin does that but tries to go progressively forward in time with a hybrid, future kind of sound. I feel like Bruno wins more because he always taps into a familiar sound that is pretty much guaranteed success.
And I agree with all you said with Justin being semi-retired and not giving his all dancewise. I feel and see all that on him. He's getting older, he's phoning a lot of those dances in more because he's done these dances for so long, and I'm not sure there is much more for him to go with the way things are going. Mainly because I don't know if his energy will allow for it or if his fanbase will allow him to evolve and change any further. I could see him building around his Tennessee Kids band--being more like Springsteen, or attempting some David Bowie-ish type stuff, stop the dancing and just keep on with futurist pop sounds, but will fans let him? It's funny that you write me today too because I was just randomly thinking earlier today that MJ did 6 solo albums before his career was done and this will be Justin's 6th album as well (counting 20/20 as two - double disc album). If this ends up being JT's final album, I guess I wouldn't be that surprised just because his energy does seem to be lacking. Not saying he wouldn't make or do other songs but lack of vision for more albums could stop the solo train. I've been to the FutureSexLoveShow and MOTW tour and he's slowing down. Not knocking him but he is. This next album will tell us a lot.
And you are absolutely right about 2020, it's an excellent point -- it is in a way like FutureSex 2. I love FutureSex, it was inspired and it was made in a such a way as Timbo said, where virtually every song was the one to go on the album. But Justin admittedly tried to duplicate that work success by speeding up the process and limiting the time of how long he was going to make music for to force the best output and came up with 20/20 - and there is definitely some similarities. Going back to that well could be the wrong move but I think what Timbo means by this being like a FutureSex 2 is that the songs won't be personal like Justified and MOTW was. They are just fun dance tunes and artsy-emotional vibes but nothing raw or serious. They're trying to lighten up Justin again and push all the drama and seriousness away from him.

@@talon3684 Yeah I agree with most of what you wrote. He did try the modern disco sound in both The other side and Stay with me (with Calvin Harris, not Sam Smith, lol) and that was cool, but those songs, while getting okay streams, barely even reached the hot 100. But they were barely promoted either so what do they really expect 🤷🏼‍♂️ If Justin is gonna get back in the game again he really needs a good plan and I really hope he has one because I am a big fan, even of 20/20 (part 1 at least, and part 2 has a lot of good songs too in the first half).
Just to clarify: I specifically meant that The 20/20 experience 2 of 2 sounds like a Futuresex part 2. The first 20/20 experience was it's own thing I feel, even though it was more similar to Futuresex than Justified, just like Man of the woods was more similar to Justified than Futuresex, while still being its own unique thing.
Yeah he is very much slowing down with the dances, even though there were some good dance breaks like Filfthy and in the Super Bowl. I feel like he could still dance pretty well if he tried but he's not really trying anymore most of the time. But it could be a stamina thing since those tour shows are long and he also sings everything live. His age is probably also a factor, although Usher and MJ still danced almost as well at that age (but MJ used playback).
Personally I think his dancing peak was Justified, but overall performance peak, live vocals, band, instrument playing, stage lightning, charisma and command over audience included - the peak was probably Futuresex LoveShow or The 20/20 experience tour. I don't know if you saw his tour with Jay Z but it was really unique, it was one of the few times I've seen him improvise his dancing and it was kind of better than I thought it would be, moving his hips so much I almost forgot he's a white middle aged dad (I'm not all that woke, it was just a joke 😂😅 That rhymes... Where was I going with this..?)
Yes it would be very cool to see him work with other producers, maybe some of The Weeknds or Brunos producers would fit nicely. Him and The Weeknd were actually in the studio working on music together in 2016, so sad that nothing came of it. And Justin actually already produced a song with Rick Rubin - (Another song) All over again.
And I love writing too so thanks for your response also 👍🏻

I STILL play this album like it came out this year. 😂 It’s such a CLASSIC album and I love that some songs went on and on and was really like two tracks. I think going for a future sex vibe would be a mistake. That album stands on it's own in music glory. You can't forget that a point in time is very influential to the sound of music. They would be trying to recreate a vibe that Justin made when he was a 20 something bachelor getting ladies left and right. He's now a mid 40's father that to me doesn't fit that anymore. The music can still be hard tho (pause) but I'm not sold on a club JT. I was years back but not anymore. But I am rooting for the album to be great.
