Rice has 6 losses but they were all to undefeated boxers, his last fight was against Ajagba and he lost that on points, he could not miss with the right hand and that was down to Coffie's bad head movement and defence as you say, Coffie could not get near Rice in this fight, it shows that Rice has some power because Coffie was not willing to try and walk through the punches to get in close.

When you're still just a prospect at 35 years of age you can't afford to lose. Time is in short supply. It's even worse when you're the top of the card and you look like a lackadaisical big lump taking a one sided beating. Coffee has seriously damaged his brand and there's no quick way back given the sparsity of promotions in these pandemic times. He may well have timed himself out with this debacle. Neither guy is title material IMHO but good on Jonathon Rice. He's clearly better than his record and maybe this will grease the rails for a few good paydays for him.

Yes that Damian Rock (is it?) he was out of abdominal shape but was decent, needed better conditioning.
Coffie caught him with a tight left hook.
That was the one I meant..
Coffie and Rice are two different styles, but Coffie did not realize his yet.
Rice can unlock his AC joints for looping strokes to gain range,(probably even played baseball, throwing develops that young)while Coffie is tighter stroked, and can fire in tight spaces so he must keep agile to slip inside while Rice using jab (and unlocked AC strokes)to keep opponent from forming a pocket.

To be fair Ruiz is a bad example, because he was a walk over for the first 2 and a bit rounds and would have been beaten with ease.
The mistake AJ made, that he never recovered from, was unrelated to him being a replacement it was purely AJ doing something stupid because he was over eager in his first US fight, happening in the aftermath of one his rivals getting a 1st round ko.

That right hand was real nice. But in the beginning it was not fundamentally there because he would bring the back foot forward as he threw which takes all the power out but once he threw the right hand with the back foot not coming forward or up it was doing damage and then got him the stoppage great win.

Yessir...... First couple rights were stingers..... Once in range.... He started to sit on it and bring the left hook...... Right hand left hook..... Floyd vs Judah

I saw it coming, because Rice had the better pedigree.. people think that its easy to transition, from one sport to boxing. Believe me its not easy, especially at 30 years old. I transitioned from football to boxing at 15 years old, and i found it difficult against seasoned amateurs.. Boxing is a whole other beast.

Joe Goossen is always the commentator I want to shut up whenever he talks; During pac-thurman he was giving no chance to Manny prior; and diminishing his success. Had that dumb "Oh no. A headbutt (after an obvious bodyshot)." During this fight he was doing the same damn thing, diminishing the success of Rice. Goossen needs to go.
