In the book, Rick thought the arch was closer to the river and that Percy could just jump in so the water grasping him was a change made for the tv show and makes a lot more sense.

100% agree on Echidna's vibe. That smile is so unsettling. The actress did great

Percy being willing to sacrifice himself to save his friends is *such* a Percy thing to do. There is actually a scene similar to that a bit earlier on in the book (bus scene in ep3) but I think the change they made for the show works really well. I'm happy with the adaptation so far!!
I do wish the episodes were longer but alas... Disney will be Disney 😮‍💨😮‍💨

Definitely agree with what you were saying with regards to the different parental dynamics. I really enjoyed the exploration of that. I think another thing that contributes to Percy and Annabeth's different opinions on their parents is that Percy has his mom as an example of what a good, loving parent is like, whereas Annabeth doesn't have that reference point

i REALLY relate to you with liking a lot of things that others tend to not like. it takes a LOT for me to dislike a movie or show. It has happened but it has to be really egregious for that. I can read and take criticism but after a while of constant negativity it can weigh me down and make me feel kinda bad for enjoying something? But i always remember everyone’s different and has different tastes and as long as one person connects and gets enjoyment from a film or show then it was worth being made.
I’ve also just learned how to personally deal with people hating on things i like cus it’s happened so much I just ignore it. i’m always open to hearing different opinions but im also allowed to not agree lol.
I’ve been seeing a lot of people ragging on this show because of nitpicky things (or straight up racism) but the only criticism i see others have that i agree with is that I wish the episodes were longer. But that’s not really a big enough reason for me to dislike a show. I think the pace is great, the acting is great, the chemistry between the 3 kids is exceptional. there’s not much to dislike here for me.

      Same.
There are a couple of details that bother me, but not to the point of disliking/hating the show.
To me, it's incredible so far!

Howdy ho, Derek! 🔱 Anders Engström directed this one. ෴ That actor you recognized and wondered about... I first saw him as 'Felix Gaeta' in BATTLESTAR GALACTICA (2004). His name is Alessandro Juliani.

    Really predicting stuff this episode!
Echidna is creepy. Amazing acting by the actress!
I love that they showed the Chimera as a Chihuahua. As a book reader, it made me laugh so hard 😂
And yes, loved to hear the parental experience both Percy and Annabeth had and how that affected them. Annabeth not trusting adults, authority issues, and Percy not trusting his father so he "falls" to his death, rather than "plunging".
Amazing CGI on the Chimera, quite accurate to the book description.
Disappointed the episode ran so short (not even 30 minutes when the others ran around 40). And it cut so abruptly, weird ending. Episodes being around 45 minutes would be great!
    Overall I enjoyed this one!
If that's the "3 old ladies knit the socks of death" scene from the book that they didn't include in episode 1 then the next episode is already great because that is a major scene. Not to mention waterworld!

Def agree about modern shows regularly not knowing how to balance time. Between individual ep lengths feeling random or (and this happens most on Netflix) not getting the episode count right to tell the story without rushing or having too many and lots of filler.
This ep has a lot of good going, the main actors finding their groove (Annabeth shines when the script allows the actor to have personality and not be cold and mysterious like she was in ep 2) but the ending feels abrupt, like we were only halfway through the scene. If we got more of a reaction from Percy or he calmly freed himself after taking a beat and started to swim up it would’ve felt more of an ending to me

100% agree with you. Technically, if you look at the book, we are literally in the middle of chapter, which is why it feels like they cut in a middle of scene. The ending feels weird because of that. I wish they'd shown the rest of the conversation with the spirit, Percy getting free of the mud and swimming up to the surface. Way better ending!

It's funny nearly every reactor on this episode reacts the same to the actor playing the Train Cop. They are all "I know you... Who are you?" I remember him as Dr. Amil Hamilton on Smallville and then he was in The Man of Steel as Officer Sekowsky who was in scenes with Man of Steel's Dr Amil Hamilton. LoL Alessandro Juliani is the actor BTW.

Enjoyed your reaction! Haven't read the books. Saw the two movies, liked the first one but don't remember anything about the second one. Enjoying the series so far. Agree that the episode was good & fun but too short. I like your philosophy about looking for things to enjoy when watching something, usually there is something to like (the live action The Last Airbender action movie being the exception that comes to mind). Agree with you about Wonder Woman 1984 but, LOL, disagree with you on the last season of Lucifer.

That is not true, at least not in pjo. There’s literally nothing stopping them from hanging out with their kids, they just don’t. The only rules are: 1. gods are not allowed to steal each other’s symbols of power. 2. The Big Tree made a pact not to father any more kids. The rest is what they individually decided to do
