Thanks a lot for watching and safe journeys!
Good to see you in Sri Lanka man! Hikkaduwa is such a beautiful place and I really enjoy that beach in the early mornings!
Enjoy your time in SL bro, looking forward to the next videos!
Cool man, thanks. ✌️🍺
I wish we Indians could learn a thing or two from the Sri Lankans on keeping their public places clean.
Not only from SL, but literally everyone else
@adolft_officialWhy be offinded you like live with trash every where?
People also need to start paying taxes besides understanding this civic responsibility
Almost 75% of population dont pay full taxes to govt and expect infra to be as comparable to west.
It will reach at western standard in next 10 years but by then cost will increase and tourist will start complaining about cost 😆
Right now Govt of India focus is not on tourism infra but other aspects /sectors to generate income and infra is being developed to cater to those sectors and places and not focusing on tourist spots but it will be focused in coming years
Also it is not right comparison with Srilanka whose income is mainly from tourism (#1 with approx 15% of GDP). They have to have better infra because thats the main source of income.
@@truthteller2991 bro, don’t justify the unjustifiable. Even Modiji’s request of Swacch Bharat was not taken serious by us Indians
@@CharlieChaplinVideos Not justifying at all. I am just trying to say it is not as easy it looks.
Your channel is STILL my favorite channel to watch, over all, of all my other channels, cars, computers and the like. Your music selection and location descriptions while filming are excellent. Thank you.
Sweet, glad to hear it. ✌️
Tsunami was a very Sad day. I was in Seattle. But Sri Lanka has gone through a lot. Good to see its recovering . Nice little lush green towns.
Thanks for the ride Gabe!
OK you made me laugh whistling at that huge lizard to come over to you! Glad you are videoing in Sri Lanka.
You defintely have been blessed with good weather recently, Sri Lanka is a wonderful, almost forgotten island paradise, wow, how cool. I can see it is quite popular with tourists, all look Western, but this is another country I would love to check out based on what I'm seeing so far.
I am happy for you Gabriel!
I most definitely want to hit the Hikkaduwa beach scene when I get out that way next year. just want some nice sand, warm weather, cool waves and nice babes to relax to. Keep going Gabriel!
Another exotic adventure thanks to good old Gabriel 👍 🏍️ 🇱🇰
I must say, after following you for a while, that I admire your playfulness with every new day, fresh like the morning dew. Please don't you ever change. 🤸
Never heard Gabe say he couldn’t finish his meal lol .
Another great video and beautiful island
There are also freshwater and saltwater crocodiles in Sri lanka. Huge ones!
That food looks so good at the Godzilla lake.
So much cleaner than India indeed.
Good to know. Same in Costa Rica. I was running the beach every morning, and on my last day after being there for two weeks, a guy came out and said “I watched you every morning running the beach and assumed you were aware of the crocs along the coast”. Nope. Now I am. lol.
Beautiful. The island paradise.
The heaven on earth
Enjoying from Birmingham, first time in England....keep up the excellent work
thats supposed to be a really popular dish in sri i think...ill be tasting that dish myself soon !!
That subtle flex at about 8:45 Love it. You’re living the dream, Gabriel!
great India series. This also seems great in Sri LAnka. enjoy.
Another great video. I can remember watching the news coverage of the 2004 tsunami also. It was so horrific, those poor souls that perished that day. 🥲 Nice to see it 19 years later and communities rebuilt.
Gabe, as always, great content! Hey, so for making things easier, have u ever considered using a chest/head/wrist-mount for your “go-pro/DJI” vs holding while driving/walking!? I know U try to travel light… ✌️
sri lanka is amazing, make sure to visit Sigirija
Looks great. Like you said yesterday definitely has a SE Asia vibe.
Also go on a boat safari to see the swimming elephants at Gal Oya National Park - it’s an undiscovered gem
Sri Lanka is beatiful thanks Gabriel for the video 😊👍
Don't even try to swim in those lagoons and rivers in that area. The water monitors are the least of your troubles. There's a high concentration of salt water crocodiles (the same ones you find in Australia).
Whoa, thanks for that, hadn't even thought about crocs.
Actually moniter lizards are innocent, while crocs will devour any creature, even if it was the devil.
Well come to Sri Lanka 🎉
This is very local area good to see rural communities from srilanka ❤
At first I thought it was a Crocodile. But its a Water Monitor Lizard. Seems there are many monitor lizards in Srilanka. If you watch Harald Baldr video when he stayed at 30$ Airbnb House (Homestay) at Hikkaduwa, you can see Monitor Lizards loitering around that home. Once, a lizard even enters that home and they drive him out after making some persistent efforts!
Yes. I think theres one under our stairs😂
you finally come to sri lanka.
Hey gabe, so nice to see you in sri lanka!! Walk the Peko trail - research this online -it will take you into the hills and off the beaten track with the most spectacular scenery!
Gabe when u coming down under down under to New Zealand mate.
It's super high on my travel list, maybe it will happen in 2024.
I would love to see New Zealand
on my bucket list : "Kala Bhairava" temple in Ujjain where god guzzles alcohol, "the ancient Bhadwa Mata" temple near Neenuch, MP famous among patients with incurable neurological diseases where the water is considered to have magical properties.
Amazing greenery 🌴
Good day 👋
Aim to be in Sri Lanka soon. However l am not too sure handing over my passport for a motorbike.Where did it go whilst you were away?Hope you don't run into trouble later on.
You should never hand over your passport to anyone. The alternative was $300 which is OK. If you dont have $$ I am sure they would have accepted the equivalent in sri lanka rupees. They want the passport or $$ as a security deposit.
Beautiful views 🌴🌳🌾
How much for the bike rental?

Hi Gabriel,
What you use filming camera model and what you use filming software?
I film with a DJI Osmo, there's a link below the video. I edit with Videopad.
Hi Gabriel, if I were you I would rather give them the $300 deposit. It is safer that way. You never know what they do with your passport.
I have a question unrelated to this subject. I am curious how you deal with the banks in the US when your cards get expired? Do they send you a replacement card overseas or you ask your friend in Oregon to send them to you?
I get cards replaced when I'm back in the US.
How does it feel to be going from 5000m to 0m above sea level under a month… great video
Kottu is actually a unique Sri Lankan dish!! If you can you should try some chili crab as well. Happy Travels
The last guy on the mural looks like Anagarika Dharmapala!
Hi Gabriel I love your videos and watch them all. I'm pretty sure you need a temporary tourist license to drive legally in Sri Lanka.
I remember those massive lizards in Kandy
Those monitor lizards are amazing 👍🏼 I saw one massive one in Malaysia last year and just yesterday one here in Indonesia 🤙🏻🦎🤙🏻🦎🤙🏻💯 cheers brother and enjoy each day 🕉️
Monitor lizards are all over Lumpini Park in Bangkok
Beautiful
Have you got a new way of mounting your camera when you ride? Looking good 7:16
No, just holding the camera and driving with one hand.
passport must be kept with you at all times.
some foreigners in india have had difficulties renting rooms due to a government law restricting room rentals to foreign tourists.Have you had any issues with this
No problems so far.
I think you have to have a sri lanka permit stamp to drive?
No, any drivers license
Hi Gabriel, good to see you get around that Montier Lizard looks very much like a Comodo Dragon that creature can easily take down a man. A question I have are you told when you arrive somewhere like an island of mosquito bites encephalitis or Dengi fever it's recommended you put on bug spray and are told at the airport to be aware of that? You never know what's in the cuisine, you could be eating a lizard of some sort or some other animal without your knowledge.
You should definitely avoid getting bitten by mosquitos. You don’t need to worry about eating anything strange in sri lanka. Fish is common and only meats that you get in sri lanka are chicken (most common), beef and pork.
😂. This is srilanka. Theres only seafood majority. Fish shrimps etc. And then chicken and beef. Mutton is rare and costly. Thats all. And ofc you get eggs!
Nice video for our “home” area. Can you say, is it possible to drive motorcycle whit international driving license? Few years ago was big problem whit police. I need to get Sri Lankan driving license to drive motorcycle there. We are coming Hikkaduwa/Unawatuna are in March. Many thanks to you!
I'm not sure about that. I didn't get pulled over by the police, but some people posted comments saying that a temporary Sri Lankan license is required.
Top 10, boom, I got it!
Go to Sigiriya Gabe
WOW
Gabriel , Did they fill your Scooters tank with one liter drink bottles ? Another travel vlogger filled up the cycle in Vietnam with drink bottles ! I couldn’t believe it .
That huge tsunami was in Sri Lanka years ago , with tons of tourists ? Those who followed the wild animals to the mountains were saved . The animals knew how to be saved !
By the way , your hair is getting curlier and curlier !
I filled it up at a normal gas station. But I've gotten gas from the glass bottles in various places around the world such as Bali.
Gabe, will you take us to the NWT and Yukon? 😊
I hope so actually. I'd love to explore up there more. Hitchhiked through that area a couple times in the 1990s going from the Alaskan panhandle to the rest of Alaska through Canada.
Do you ever plan on leaving your bedroom or are you going to be live the life of a toad for the rest of your life🤡

Yes, they gained independence from Britain in 1948.
@@GabrielTravelerVideos Cool.
I’m currently listening to the Sri Lankan national anthem on loop. Written in 90% Sanskrit and 10% Sinhalese / Tamil. There are 2 versions. Like the Sinhalese version better 🎉
Sinhalese is part of the Indo-Aryan branch of the Indo-European languages and it derives most words from Sanskrit. Sinhalese has been unaffected by adulteration so it has more sanskrit roots. The Sinhalese script evolved from the Brahmi script, an ancient Indian script that was also the basis for many other South Asian scripts, including those used for writing Sanskrit.
National anthem is fully in Sinhala, you're thinking it's Sanskrit because Sinhala is very close to Sanskrit as it is an Indo-Aryan language.

Yeah be very careful when you hand over your passport to something like a rental place. First of all, its technically illegal, since it officially is the property of the US (or any other national) government, and you are only allowed to even hand it to offical authorities that have permission to handle these documents, like airport security for example. This of course isnt that important in the sense that obviously you dont run the risk of getting fined for this.
However, what is important is that more dodgy shops can hold your passport hostage in order to extract extra money from you. Usually they claim that you damaged your rental in some way, pointing out some scratch that was probably there long before you yourself rented the vehicle. But, since its such a hassle getting the police involved, besides thats usually a bad idea anyway, when you are unlucky some local police might even be in on the scam, youll just end up paying whatever they demand. Ive even heard that they sometimes paint over scratches with waterpaint, for example with rental jetski's, so that you wont see the scratches when you take it. Besides that, its a good idea to take some photo's before you take it so at least you can show that the worst damage was already there before you used it. Im sure 95% of the places are perfectly legit but it takes like 30 seconds so better safe than sorry.

2004 Tsunami also hit India badly especially Tamilnadu. but India never took financial help from anyone. instead helped Sri Lanka and other countries hit by that Tsunami. since then India have been affected by natural disasters many times every year. but India have never taken any help for that from others. but whenever there is natural calamity or crisis be it Syria, Turkey, Afghanistan, South Sudan, Ukraine, Palestine etc -India is among the first to send humanitarian aid. during covid19 India sent medicines to over 150 countries, vaccines to over 100 countries and its indigenous vaccine for free to many low income countries despite India itself being a low income country.
