While packing and shipping this Spring’s It’s Better Outside store orders, Corey shares the surprise about how he is getting all of the orders to the post office and scares Lily a little bit in the process!
Corey’s brother got his new Tesla Cybertruck right before we arrived in Maine this year and allowed us to use it not only to make all of our deliveries but also to test out towing the RV. The reactions we got driving it around alone were pretty crazy, but people were really expressive when they saw it towing the RV!
Overall, we were very impressed with how the Cybertruck performed during our little test. The girls loved being able to look through the full sunroof back at the RV, and we were all surprised by how smooth it drove since we were maxing out its towing capacity.
Jess got a little nervous when she had to drive while Corey was droning the adventure. Everything was fine until Corey crashed the drone!

Can not get over the UGLY factor. I grew up in the 70's with muscle cars. SS Chevelle, Mach 1 Mustang, 442, just to name a few. I got a brand new '76 Trans Am half way thru my senior year, thank you dad. Not because my parents were rich, because he told me and my sister if we dug deep and did the best we could in school. He would buy us a car our senior year. We both did that but my poor father as we learned later worked so many overtime hours to make that happen for us, we missed out on time with him. Even when he would work 6 days a week, he would still take us to the lake in the boat he basically bought for us and take us skiing. Funny how later in life you understand how much your parents gave up for you, how much they did for you.
Saw a quote once." You never understand how much you love your mom and dad until they are gone". I found out !!!!!!!!

Fun, surprising episode! My son is out in Austin building the CyberTruck. They’re trying to keep up with demand working 12-hour days.
A guy with our same model Brinkley TT is towing it with his CyberTruck and doing all the testing for range, etc. I think he’s consistently gotten about 100 miles with 11k GVWR. He tows with his F350 for longer range trips. Corey, you may be onto something with your idea to tether the RV solar to the vehicle. 🤷‍♀️

Saw one parked at Sams Club today. While beyond ugly but dwarfed vehicles in surrounding spaces - including half ton and 3/4 ton. good to see 4 wheel turn and would need them to negotiate tight parking lot. That full glass roof brought out bad memories from last year in Italy, and luckily with concern about Italian driver stereotypes took out the optional insurance on the rental. Middle of the night had a hail storm with what sounded like baseball size hail at the AirBnB outside Verona. While had major dents and cracked windshield, Hertz couldn't replace it because all their cars were damaged by same storm so drove it to Milan for flight back. Other residents/guest in the AirBnB had far more damage, including busted out windows, in their personal car as they were Europeans. Getting back to Tesla, one guest had friends staying further north at Lake Como where the same storm totally destroyed his glass roof Tesla. Got to the Milan airport, turned in the rental...and owed nothing!

Something that has to be addressed for EV towing is the fact that charging stations are not built for trucks with trailers, etc. Every time you charge up you will have to disconnect, drive over to charge station and then charge and reconnect.

    • @calledtojourney
      @calledtojourney 14 дней назад +2

Precisely. Existing lithium battery technology just isn't going to cut it due to the long charging time. Driving 2-3 hours followed by 2-3 hours charging isn't going to work for most people towing long distances.

I wonder how it would feel backing an Rv with four wheel stearing. Also I have noticed locally that electric vehicles that don’t use the brakes but just decelerate no brake light go on. I think that could be a potential rear end collision given how quickly electric motors slow down. Thanks for taking us on a towing test drive.

We tow our trailer (although only 5,500lbs) with a 1/2 ton hybrid. It has great torque and in my opinion is the best of both worlds for a light RV. I get great mileage in the city while it takes advantage of the electric motor but have the range needed when doing bigger trips. I share your opinion about the interior of the CyberTruck but am not a fan of the exterior. Until battery range increases exponentially, they are not viable for anyone that wants to drive more than 2 hours at a time.

@@FindingOurSomeday It would be slow. 2 kilowatts of solar output is under 2% of the Cybertruck's capacity. Over the course of a bright summer day, they would only replace about 10-12% (at best) of the truck's capacity (about 10-12 miles of driving while towing, per your test). Those are some big batteries to charge.

This is to cool. For camping around in state, it would be great and work fine. I could charge it at home, pull to campground in state, then charge the truck at the campsite. So, from a fuel cost, this might be a big savings. Even going out of state to let's say the Smokies, I would only have to charge it once on the way which is no big deal. You guys are great.

Everyone has an opinion on the esthetics of a vehicle. I personally love the Cybertruck. The range is the drawback so that stops me as I love off grid camping out in the booneys. For years into the future, charging stations, even in suburban areas, are going to be an issue if you are away from your home. The interior looks amazing but I'm curious as to what Lily & Leila think about the back seat ride after years in the GM pickup.

I would like more information on how that cyber track does with towing trailer on hills & mountains. I just cant see it towing anything thru the rocky mountains. I agree, i think around town it would be fine. But in areas of our country that some towns are 100's of miles apart or if you live in rural, back country, you'd have to find a charging station before you could turn around & go home. As well as how the batteries don't do well in cold & extreme heat. More research and refinement needs to be made, as well as the cost needs to come down before most people would buy! But, thanks for your fun video. Beautiful photography!

A refrigerator on wheels😬 while hooked to your trailer, does the truck have a trailer braking mode (setting) and a similar GM Stabilitrak system🤔 Just think, all wheel steering while backing your camper into a site 😳😎 Truck side view mirrors should be able to slide out more, so you can see 'down" the side of your camper 🤔

Others don't recommend towing with the cyber truck unless you want to make a lot of charging stops.
There is an electric truck that has enough range for towing. Rivian R1S. Depending on what battery pack you get, you can get 375 to 440 on a charge. Cheaper than the cyber truck.
You can go to the rivian factory and they will let you test drive. I think they might let you tow, but one of them would be with you.
Problem is, there are hardly any pull through charger stations. You can't charge while driving.
Most charging stops are 25 to 40 min up to 80%.
Detailed information is on "out of spec" channels on RUclips. The ones will be reviews. The range test, motors. Note: most are between 1 and 2 hours. Some are longer.

We were in Spanish Trail RV park in Moab, UT and I crashed my Mavic 3 into a power line! Stupid part was I saw the lines and thought I was above the highest line. I hit the line and it broke the camera mount so the camera was hanging underneath the front of the drone. The drone carried on flying so I brought it back to land. DJI was terrific with their service. They replaced the drone and I got the new one in a week.

I have air suspension on my '23 Tundra, love it. Love it levels your truck after you hook up your load. But, in that thing. If you run low, you can not just pull into any gas station and fill up. There are so few places to recharge and if you can. Do you want to spend couple of hours recharging? That is one of the things the infrastructure package is supposed to help with. Also the battery companies are not going to get EV going until they get charge times down to 30 minutes or less. Tell me this. If you had to pull in and charge up. Would you buy an EV where very time you had to stop, 2 hours ? Or would you get a gas or hybrid. 5 minutes you are on your way ?
I am not dissing EV, just the infrastructure is not there yet. Battery charge times is not there yet. It will be, just not at the moment.
