Lyrics:
See them walking hand in hand
Across the bridge at midnight
Heads turning as the lights flashing out
Are so bright
And walk right out to the four line track
There's a camera rolling on her back
On her back
And I sense a rhythm humming in a frenzy
All the way down her spine
Girls on film
Girls on film
Girls on film
Girls on film
Lipstick cherry all over the lens as she's falling
And miles of sharp blue water coming in
Where she lies
The diving man's coming up for air
'Cause the crowd all love pulling dolly by the hair
By the hair
And she wonders how she ever got here
As she goes under again
Girls on film (two minutes later)
Girls on film
Girls on film (got your picture)
Girls on film
Wider, baby, smile and you've just made a million
Fuses pumping live heat twisting out on a wire
Take one last glimpse into the night
I'm touching close
I'm holding bright
Holding tight
Give me shudders in a whisper
Take me up 'til I'm shooting a star
Girls on film (she's more than a lady)
Girls on film
Girls on film (two minutes later)
Girls on film
Girls on film (see you together)
Girls on film
Girls on film (see you later)
Girls on film
I am a metalhead, and also a bassist, as a bassist i have to say every bassline of duran duran is gold no one can denied that
Oh yes, John Taylor I feel is an underrated bassist
The bass player was hugely influenced by Mick Karn of the band Japan. In pretty much every way DD took their queue from them.
@@aaronolson2234 Mick Karn used to play fretless bass. And musical concept of Japan was somewhat different than DD. Anyway, I like both of them. And Derek Forbes of early Simple Minds.
John Taylor is a monster bassist
Andy Taylor played lead guitar for Robert Palmer's simply irresistible, I think??
They were not just pretty boys, they played the hell out of their instruments. Don't get the respect they deserve as musicians.
Good looking people are frequently regarded by many as talentless/ stupid/ uninteresting/ or vacuous sadly
one of the best bassist out there :)
What are you even saying
They were very known in the 80s in mtv videos, and WERE appreciated…..recognized. We heard them, on the radio.
Yep, like the Beatles too. Both girls and guys love them so much.
Still say Duran Duran was one of the best bands to come out of the 80's.
Oh HELL YA!!!
YESS they where (are)..........
And New Order....
Fact!
Lmao

The bass player is on fire! John Taylor's excellent bass playing drove every Duran Duran song
John Taylor's bass lines especially on the entire Rio album always stand out
I COMPLETELY AGREE WITH YOU!!!💣💣💣💣💣💣💣💣💣💣💣💣💣💣💣💣💣💣💣💣💣💣
Def my fav part of Duran Duran is the bass guitar.
The bassline to save a prayer was the first bass part I learned to play and to this day its one of my all time favourites!
@@kira-lilym6363 I AGREE. IT'S TERRIFIC. HAVE YOU EVER TRIED TO LISTEN TO NEW RELIGION'S ONE? IT COULD KILL YOU!!💣💣💣💣💣💣💣💣💣💣💣💣💣💣💣💣
They kick f ing butt
My dad told me that when he was a teen and this would come on MTV he and his friends would always call each other to just say ''GIRLS ON FILM IS ON MTV!!!!!'' because they all loved the video so much hahah
hahah yeah i figured ;p
This IS NOT the night time version they used to show .... i remember it well
@@chels4723 guilty!!
Remember there was a naughty version
@@Tom-yd1ur So I'm not hallucinating. This time. I think I saw that one in a bar decades ago. Something about whipped cream, as I recall ...
The uncut version of this video is risque even by today's standards, let alone 1982. Still hard to believe it is over 40 years old.
the uncut version was aired on australian tv. this must be the steralised US version.
@@robertfonovic3551 The original version is on Daily Motion. Don't know if YT will let me tell u that. AAR, the song is radically different from this version as its twice as long. FWIW, this is the 1st time I've seen either version, as I was cable-deprived as a child.
This version of the video is boring.....it was cleaned up for the puritan Americans
Puritans came from England.
Nah 2024 standards would be considered normal i think
John Taylor is one of the most underrated bass players of this era. Without his tone, rhythm and melodic bass lanes, Duran Duran does not enjoy the prolonged success that they had.
I totally agree. Thanks for complimenting him.
agree
Yes!!!
Not true at all
Underrated by who??!!? He was incredible.
I love Duran Duran. I miss the 80s!
We all do
Miss the 80s to .were brilliant enjoyed every minute of it ❤🎉
Just for the record - I yearn to go back toooooo❤❤❤
They still tour buy a ticket to eighties time machine and enjoy the ride
This song feels like it just got on the charts No matter when you play it.Never gets old..
No doubt. A good song/band stands the test of time. Was too young back then to appreciate their musical talents, but they are more than pop rock pretty boys.
t
I was on Wikipedia and found that this song was released in 1981 and DID NOT MAKE THE CHARTS in the U.S. It was MTV that brought this out the masses later on and became the classic that it now is.
Fortes-Foruna Fuvar yeah but there clothes are next level lol.
you're right, it's like it would be the coolest thing in any era
Is anyone else here because they genuinely like the song?
ME!!!
Simon is pretty hot in this one.
Sometimes I forget this song exists then someone uses it in some hella cool video and I’m like Duran duraaaan
sylvia I came just for the song lol
Yeah but I'm over 40 and this is my music
I thank my mum for introducing me to Duran Duran. She’s 53, and was obsessed with them in the 80s as a teenager. I’m 28 and I’m obsessed too. Thanks mum!
I also went to see them live this year in Birmingham, and it was SUCH an experience!! Love them ❤
Your mum was cool and a duranie- Those boys from Birmingham rocked the world!
I'm a 55-year-old mom. I was crazy about them in the 80s. What a good feeling it was!
The bassline(s) on this are completly over the top.
True!!!!!
2024 and i am still loving this song
Great bike riding music.

It's possible that Duran Duran are the best Pop band to ever exist
INXS might humbly wave in the backround
Not better than Depeche Mode
@@Maxharddrive64 @Dave Bell Sure. Only one small problem. None of them are Pop bands.

Magic
Idk about ahead of its time, it sounds like the 80s to me
The Crown bring me here again... Duran Duran was Diana’s favorite band
Same here!
SAME!! Lol

She had good taste! Duran Duran dominated the early-mid 'eighties for a reason.
The princess Diana is one of the moste pathetic royal people i ever see
My decade. Growing up in the eighties, I love listening to this band so much. I still love them to this day.
Duran Duran is 80s magic, Simon is such a talent
I would give anything to get the 80s back.
Go ahead and get that Time Machine built so we can go back to the 80’s. As we go back our ages will go back in 1981 I was 17 years old! Yep!! I’m ready for it!!⏳
Nothing could stop them

but I concur. @@virtual30
Such an iconic visually dynamic band, Le Bon is a vastly underrated frontman and they more than looked the part, they WERE the part. Simon nails the mic baiting in this
This one brings back so many memories. It was the 80s and we skipped a few last classes of school and drove out to Hartford, CT from New Jersey to see those guys in the very bad snowy storm. Took us 4 hours to get there, but it was worth it. Amazing show and we had great seats. Have been a fan since then and until now. Love the music so much that even used it in one of our shorts. Great job delivering amazing sound of the 80s and even up to now.
Killing it on the bass guitar!. Awesome ✊🫡
oh, to be princess Diana roller skating around the buckingham palace
Whose here because of The Crown
@@gelectrox meeee
Innit 😂
I just watched that; and they fu&%g ruined it, by playing their pompous classical theme over the top. You only get a few seconds of Duran Duran. But yeah, cool. Diana loved them.
The Crown should be classed as historical because the show writers took liberties with what actually happened.
Dont care wat anyone says 80s
Tunes are KILLAS

If this dosnt make you get up n dance go get your pulse checked haha
That Bass line though.
John Taylor.

80's was all about the bass
They are so into it! I love the bass in Rio as well
This song is pure gold! Listened to it at least 3 times today! Hungry like the wolf and Rio are also really great!
My mom brought me here. That's her at 1:04!!!! I can't believe how she looked back then!!!! Now I need to find her in the Def Leopard video!!!!

Hottest one out of the lot

Great times the 80's! As a teenager loved the music, the style, the bands , above all the optimism that permeated everything!❤👍
@Helen-z17sr I agree 100%. The 80's music we still love now gets played even by our kids/grandkids and the world was a happier and safer place. 🇦🇺🙋♀️
Seems a few people don’t realise that there are two versions of Girls on Film, and this is the Day Version. The Night Version is the longer, uncensored video and has rearranged music (like a double clap).
You're right, and another thing is that the longer version of the same video was to steamy for TV.
When I was a teenager, seeing the night version was the end all be all of existence.
hired the other version from the video shop to watch when I was babysitting aged 14, it was quite adult if you know what I mean for a shy convent girl!!
Carol Morris Lol. I come from a country that was near puritanical in the ‘70s. Bowie was the first big gig here. My dad was in Melbourne for business in 1983 and bought a few VHS tapes and Duran Duran’s first video album was one of them! So yea, at 13 I saw the Night Version and the Chauffeur! Still reckon my Dad did it deliberately to educate his kids (though my parents never ever talked about sex education).
@@jc35019 well, now i understand why the video it's not on youtube!
One of the best bands of ALL TIME! I wish more kids nowadays knew about them.

Still here 4 weeks to Christmas 2024 and remembering this song in Hippodrome London 1980s.
Coming here after singing along to myself in the check out queue in Sainsbury’s as it came over the piped music.
Happy memories of being 16 when this came out… 43 years ago.
The best band from the best decade. They were on another level. They'll be listening to this 100 years later still.
After all the media hype and blitz of the 80s, they prove to be timeless and outstanding musicians.
1982 I was 11 after hearing this my life was Duran Duran 🥰😉 and they are still brilliant 🤩
The same as I. Although I was 12.... :)
Yes 49 next year 50
That was such a great year for music.
I was, too!😀 I had a poster of them hanging by my bed! Hearing them come on MTV always made me scream! Hearing them now always makes me 😃.
I agree 1000%!!!!! 💙 💙
1981 this clip is broadcasted uncensored on Dutch television, 2019 can't be uploaded uncensored to you tube.
Yes, the new "woke order", ähm "world order".
Duran Duran could have been the biggest band in history. And still be today. Changed their winning formula, released poor quality songs, and that's how history went... But from 1981 to 1985, boy, they were The Kings.
100%
When I was 10 or 11 in 1982 my Aunt sent me this and several other uncensored Duran Duran videos on a vhs that weren't available for american television. Mom and Dad never knew what was on those tapes. Between that and all the harlequin novels I ingested on the DL its no wonder why I turned out this way!
Duran Duran videos are how I figured out I was a lesbian and loved synthesizers. win/win Thanks guys!
Pretty level Julie like the rest of us oldies lol stay well, :-)
I got the uncensored DD vhs tape for my 14th birthday from my mom and dad. They had no idea about the half naked women. I spent a lot of "alone time" with this VHS tape playing back in the day.. :-)
How did you turn out? 😂
Same here. My folks got me a Betamax tape of Duran Duran videos at the local Christian bookstore.
Duran Duran has powered for decades upbeat and innovative music that has withstood the test of time and made them an Icon odf Rock and Roll. Their talent is phenomenal and needless to say full of great lyrics and out of this world instrumwental sounds, from the likes of Niick Rhodes, Andy Taylor, Roger Taylor, John Taylor and of course the maestro Simon Lebon! Rock on Duran Duran!~
Still the best band totally cool! I loved them as a child preteen and still love them now!
Duran Duran's "Girls On Film" was used as the original opening theme song for the Seinen Anime, Speed Grapher in 2005. The song went perfectly for the opening of the Anime.
Off with that nerd shit
Right, because the main character is photographer that gets the power to create explosions when he takes a picture.
@@TheConuresrule the camera shutter was automatically included in Duran Duran's song, "Girls On Film." They always perform it at their concerts on tour. They also opened their Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction with the song, 2 years ago. LL Cool J was seen at their induction in the crowd singing and dancing to Duran Duran's "Girls On Film."
Admit it: when you were younger and first heard this song you were blown away.
🎉
I really like this song. I love when television shows that take place in the past use music from the era it was from instead of today's music.
The Crown didn't brought me here. It's a sin to not know Duran Duran.
anybody else here because they actually lived thru this great time?
Yes, I forgot in all about this song
I loved Duran Duran . I had all their albums.
I've been around since the 70' s. The 80' s was a great decade for music, made even more so because MTV actually played MUSIC videos and not the ignorant reality shows they air now
Oh Yes, I would leave the prog world for the Duran world back then
Yes. I even had the frosted hair in Jr High.
Psychedelic British eighties pop funk synth rock dance polyrhythmic masterpiece
Gotta love the early days of MTV. The impact it had was tremendous. Watching the videos truly brings one back to the feel and vibe of the time.
Duran Duran was truly a unique group. You had a bunch of guys who looked like models coming up with quality songs and making it huge in the process. I doubt there'll be another like them in the distant future especially in these times. It really makes one miss the past and feel nostalgic; to think we used to revel and take all of those great stuff for granted makes it all so bittersweet.
You are so right who cannot smile when they remember those times
This song is too 80's and guess what?............................................. I LOVE it ! Thank you my good Sir "Duran-Duran" for this classic hit!!!
Fuck off I want too root 😅
When this came out, I was 11. Instant fan from that moment. We rushed to my friends house in between classes from school, because she was the only one with a Video recorder... And we watched this, and raced back again to school, all hyped up... Oh the good times. Now I have everything on my disposal, but the excitement we had in the early 80-ies....

Imagine what it was like being an adult during the 80's. Forget it - if you didn't live in the 80's I can't describe how good it was. The money the women and the cars - omg. One thing for sure is I liked Duran Duran Music to get me going. Miss all the people and the crazy dayz but we had fun and nobody died because we had common sense.

If you pause at 2:30, you can see Nick Rhodes's keyboard setup. The top keyboard is a Sequential Prophet 5, but I don't recognize the one on the bottom. It seems to be some kind of European organ or string machine, maybe an Elka.

If you were a fan of Duran Duran in the eighties you knew that there video's were not allowed to be shown on Top of the pops because of the content of them, you had to buy their videos or get your parents to get them for you, so why Mauricio was your childhood destroyed? brilliant video even back then when i was not supposed to see it but I did!
This was without question on MTV and played non stop for a year.
Helen Faragher We rented the video from a local video store and saw the uncensored version also the longer intro version is a better version of the song. The group had to appeal to clubs and the owners so they came up with this 80’s tame S and M video ( the original ) but the censors, thought that two topless female mud wrestlers were too 18 certificate for during the day so it was shown at midnight.
