I have a feeling why productions can’t get teen actors is because teens look at the script and go “oh no they’re going with this style of dialogue again”

Thank you
Teens liking edgy stuff was more last generation. And most of that generation still likes edgy stuff. So really instead of not reaching their target market, they're accidentally targeting young adults instead. Only problem with that is that it's the same market as the original show, but grown up, and they were intending to draw in a completely new audience. So they also essentially cut their market in half by making it nothing like the original

they didn't even bother to let an asian girl to play as musa or let a hispanic/latina girl to play as flora😭 also rip techna
I agree, I’ve always hated the absolute whitewashes in Netflix shows. It’s even worse when they have a character that’s a certain race and they just change the race and say it’s right. It’s like Netflix put up a poster for an actress and the only physical requirement was not being white.
Hopeless Gay I don't think shows on Netflix are white washed anymore now a days if you watch something I see all sorts of colours and races but the second part I agree
I don't think flora was supposed to be latina, I think she was more generally supposed to look southern European - meaning olive. I think since the show originated in Italy it was a way of representing white people with more diversity - so they have a blonde, a redhead, and a brunette/olive.
@@giuliad223 Flora's design was based off Jennifer Lopez and she had a hispanic voice actor I believe, so I do think she was coded to be hispanic
@@giuliad223 well, even if we use this logic in the adaptation is not even tanned (she is pretty pale and doesn't remotely look like a southern european)
the fact they didn’t even add Flora, they added her ‘cousin’ Terra,
they made Stella’s character like, the antagonist of the group
the only relation they gave Musa to music was her headphones that she wears all the time
both Stella and Bloom got bad mommy issues
they sorta made one of the Trix sisters, you can see the inspo they got from them (her name was Beatrix in it)
Riven is a stoner, that’s all he does, and his anger issues are low key toned down in this?? he gets with Beatrix, idk if he’ll ever get with Musa, i’d say no because Musa is with “Terra’s” brother
Wait... I thought it was Flora....
Ik like why not even bring all the characters. Plus Flora was always my fav and i kinda dont even like Terra :(
@@JC_artz yeah it was, but netflix decided to throw in her nonexistent cousin Terra to take her place, she’s also one of the girls that got their race changed, her and Musa are now white characters?? i was so mad at that when i watched the show
@@Vynicant yeah exactly same, Flora was my favourite as well, Tecna also isn’t a thing in it, they just completely scraped her idea
Can we talk about how they just removed Tecna all together?
Another thing that grinds my gears about them acting like they made winx “dark” is that winx already had heavy and “dark” subjects in its show. Death, sacrifice, genocide, trauma, all subjects the show has tackled and it hit HARDER because it’s not all dark all the time. They’re TEENAGERS they go to school, get in to trouble, and goof off. You know, like teenagers do. When you see characters at their best it hurts a lot more when you see them at their worst.
idk. i remember layla/aisha going blind was TRAUMATISING to me as a kid because of her reaction
Madoka magica: beheads Mami on screen, Homura fighting against the inevitable suffering and death of her best friend, Kyoko being the only survivor of her father's murder suicide, Sayaka going mad and becoming a witch.
Sailor moon: that one season where all of Usagi's friends and loved ones die.
Magical girl raising project: magical girl battle royal.
Yet they all have cute and colorful aesthetics/characters
Indeed. Take for example Musa and her family. I feel like it would not have had the same impact that it had if the show was a dark and edgy teenage superhero show.
I agree with this. I still remember when I watched it and some hard hitting scenes, because it was on surface level so light hearted. Stella’s parents getting divorced, bloom being adopted and finding out where She came from, Musa and Riven literally being in toxic relationship and on/off, Tecna’s sacrifice, Flora’s sacrifice when saving Miele, Aisha’s and Nabu’s engament and Nabu’s death? So Many things that could be interesting plotlines if you tweak them to fit live action. Still keeping the same sparkly fairy vibe og had. It would feel like Real life but with spice by making them Magic.
The thing I hate the most about the reboot is that to make the show seem “more grown up” they striped all the female characters of any good healthy relationships with other girls, be it their mothers or their friends like bloom and stella were besties in the the og but in this they basically hate each other and for what?? Like the show is so bland that to make drama they have to add in bad relationships. Ugh
That’s actually a really good point. They probably sabotage the main characters relationships because they already destroyed the plot with their “edgy-fying”. They ruined a good show to the point of having to rewrite it completely, but rewriting it so badly that everyone is unlikable and so they have to pit everyone against each other to make it even have anything “interesting”
they honestly should’ve just made it their own show with a different name. like this is nothing like the winx club. especially the characters are aren’t the same cast ethnicity wise.
The worst thing about these reboots is that netflix goes so far off from what the original show was that if you change the names of the characters and places it wouldn't even be connected to the original.
I didnt even recognize the Winx reboot as a Winx reboot. My brain just thought "its just a fairy movie duh" but then I realized and it's not even funny bc I watched Winx, and i didnt even recognize it😔

Oh my gosh I came here from a Princess Tutu video! And you're right. It's a classic!!
@@SacredSacral Netflix wishes its edgy remakes had 1% of the quality Princess Tutu does
You CAN'T make a thing "dark and mature" just throwing a desaturated pallet and heavy, angst scenes. You do it by developing complex narratives that explore the worst in humanity, you can do it even if your show has a pastel pallete! I thought that a dark version of the Winx really could be interesting, but the way they did it is like painting a broken old car and saying that it is new.
Edit: WOW! This kinda blew up '----' I wouldn't do that but, since the talk is about dark and mature media, well, I did this horror fan animation a while ago, just dropping here if someone is curious :v
ruclips.net/video/MjX1up23j8g/видео.html
Exactly!!! Even if the story was dark and edgy, that doesn't mean the palette color and outfits should all be gray and black.
A story can be dark, horrible, soulless, while having a great costume design that actually goes along with the character's personality and helps the story telling.
PASTEL G · O · R · E
Idk it just came to my mind XD
Yes! In fact, some of my favorite "mature" shows are animated and have bright color palettes. The Dragon Prince, for example, manages to be incredible and legitimately mature, while still being a somewhat cutesy-styled animation about Scottish elves and lightning magic.
It’s why all the cute horror anime’s are terrifying, and the grungy ones are just bad and not good at all

I am starved of colour, winx was so bright cause its meant to seem magical and from another world. I swear your average college campus is more saturated than this

Dora and boots almost make it but not before boots supposedly falls to his death while fighting swiper to save Dora. She’s heart broken and makes it out of the forest alone. Cut to dora’s parents again talking to boots. Where it’s revealed that boots worked for them all along.

I also hate that with all these "revamps" they're basically following the whole scheme of "women need to act like men to be tough", which neither helps with female emancipation nor produces strong female lead characters. They could've all been super "girly" and "feminine" and still kicked ass, that would've been a lot cooler than have a girl get sassy every time a guy opens his mouth.
Neither of the two concepts are bad, there is no "this is what a woman needs to be" - they can be more stereotypically masculine or more stereotypically feminine and would all be valid.
But Netflix always seems to go out of their way to deliberately crush everything that looks "too girly to be cool."
tbh the chilling adventures of sabrina created interesting female characters without taking away their feminine traits.
Ikr. They tried to make "strong female characters" but really they were so the "main-character-whos-not-like-other-girls-also-im-edgy" type

Yeah Lots of shows I watched growing up pretty much taught me that being girly is dumb and you can’t be respected if you are, the old “I’m not like other girls” thing, And unfortunately I acted like that for the brunt of my childhood and refused to admit to people that I did have a girly side, I thought it was considered a dumb thing to have, thankfully I don’t have that habit anymore, but it is very damaging and sad to see being taught.

- i'm super nice and your supposed to feel sorry for me but you probably hate me

Like giving people edgey, dark personalities is just a cop out for actually writing a decent character at this point.

I SWEAR THE WRITERS HATED THE SHOW. IM SO MADD THIS WAS MY CHILDHOOD, MY FAVOURITE CHILDHOOD SHOW!! I loved the sparkles! I loved the clothes! Why take away such a huge cool aspect? Whyyyyy!!
OMG I THOUGHT THE SAME WHEN I WATCHED IT
I like that for a while people were pushing the norm that girls can have a darker tomboyish style but now that's literally all I see- I am uber-feminine and especially now people think it's dumb to be feminine because I'm "conforming to gender norms" no Sharon I just like the color pink and like dresses leave me alone.
Pink's a _colour_ for goodness' sake, what's the problem with liking it?
Seriously, I'm not that feminine, but I have history inspired wardrobe that's kinda preppy and girly (skirts, dresses, pinafores, poofy sleeves, blouses, and frills). I used to be the type that was against anything girly (god forbid I had to wear a skirt when I was 14) and now I want to smack my old self for hating anything pink/red and anything that wasn't pants and hoodie just because it was too "girly."
@@SugiyamaHiromin
I was similar as I think a ten-year-old, I absolutely despised pink, but now the problem with pink for me is more that people use bright/neon pink which in my opinion looks disgusting, and I'm fine with pink as long as it looks nice and doesn't burn my eyes out.
@@Hyacinth-Blue I'm not that comfy in pink (only certain warm shades like peach, rose and dusty pink cause my skin is warm toned) but I can appreciate how it looks and actually use it along with warm reds. Neons tend to look better on people who are more flashy and modern (as opposed to my old style) and have cold skin tone.
I never really liked pink when I was younger, but my style definitely has some feminine edge to it. Finding me in something that doesn't include a skirt or a dress is very very rare, and I don't mind ruffles and elaborate stuff so long as it's not uncomfortable and doesn't get in the way of me living my life. (I'm sensitive to touch.) The coloration is admittedly very cool- blues and greens and grays dominate my wardrobe- but that's more because cool colors contrast my red hair better.
I don’t understand why Netflix thinks teenagers don’t like colours or colourful things? Like you can add more the dark blue gray and red...we won’t be upset.
Would have loved winx to have a more fun aesthetic like euphoria or something.
netflix is allergic to color
exactly Winx club touched on a lot of darker subjects while being bright and colorful
a lot of kid shows manage to do it Adventure Time, Teen Titans, Avatar the last Airbender, etc
When you look at things like the movie Avatar ( not the ATLA one the actual avatar movie) and stuff and you just realize that older movies are better than newer ones
I mean I was emo as a teen and still loved Sailor moon, W.I.T.C.H, Hamtaro, and other similar things.
Winx club was the perfect mix of dark and colorful.. I mean, they literally killed one of the characters through out the show, treats and explains dark or horror topics like: genocide(ex. Bloom's past), toxic relationships (Musa and Riven, Valtor and the Trix, Stella's parents), passive aggressive behavior (Riven's anger issues), manipulation (Vilains did that quite often, surely you remember), trauma(My God, so many characters with traumas like Musa my bb 😭) , LITERALLY MYTHOLOGICAL HORROR MONSTERS THAT RAPED WOMEN IN THEIR SLEEP (very very old episode where the Trix summon a incubus and allows the incubus to haunt the winx), child neglect(Somewhat resembles Aisha's trauma, i definetely remember something else similar to child neglect but i can't remember), body shame (The enchantix serie where Stella becomes a monster and Brandon loves her passionately despite her appearance), disability (Alot of characters without wings that were bullied for it, like Musa's world princess), slavery(I mean almost all the vilains did that so), WAR(MULTIPLE TIMES) , LITERAL APOCALYPSE SCENARIOS (aka the first serie *cough cough* the enchantix serie) , envy (Surely you see where I'm coming from), revenge wishes (literally the main topic in the believix serie). I could go on and on, I only talked about the first 4 seasons. This is why i openly tell people I still watch and love this show. I watched it since when I was 4, and it was created in my country so i have basically everything regard it.

Now, would it be a little weird if they went all power rangers/magical girl with over the top transformations? yeah it'd be weird in a live action show. But that doesn't mean they have to go full on.....whatever this is.
I saw the trailer for the Netflix one,and thought “yo,is that that one show from nick years ago? Nah,too edgy.” And moved on. Cant believe its actually the same show.
I just find it really annoying when they want to make traditionally "girly" shows more adult the instant thing is to literally make everything darker, pastel and neon colors cant apparently be taken seriously. Well, it's for adults/teens now so studios are like "well no one will take anyone seriously if someone wears pink. I liked that the girls were allowed to be traditionally girly and still heroic and cool like Stella and Musa were pretty opposite ends of the fashion spectrum but they both were powerful individuals. Idk it kinda speaks to some misogyny that for women to be badass and cool they need to stick to a grimdark aesthetic or else they won't be taken seriously, all the shows they "aged up/made more mature" got a darker pallet cause we can't take them seriously if they're into fashion. Female friendship isn't realistic let's just make them basically hate each other and have no moments cause that's what people want right.
It makes me so mad, I loved that show cause im a girly girl! Why take away what everyone obviously loved!
@@thejazzy6012 I also loved that the show showed all the girls being really supportive of each other, I think a lot of shows even now show other women shaming other women in a sort of internalized misogyny as being cool and powerful, like hay guys look how boy crazy this girl is ...glad were not like her. I liked that the original Winx club let all the girls make their own mistakes without bloom or whoever being like "oh well you're boy crazy how stupid" they were supportive and that's what shows about female friendship should be about. I think its really popular for society to shit on things young girls like and then because of that so much media aimed at teen girls is about rejecting traditional feminine things in order to "grow up" I really appreciated that the show didn't act like its aesthetics hindered its exploration of its characters. like the new show is like "girl power.....but like you know only if your serious and dark....we cant have bloom flying around in fairy outfit that'd be childish.
Yea I’m with you. I wanted an actual Winx show about girls from different backgrounds and fashion aesthetics learn to love each other and support each other. This show had an extreme amount of potential because I think people are sick of the dark, depressing, toxic relationship that really make no sense, especially what been happening this past year. People are more incline to watch a more positive show, super colorful and positive friendship. Which is what I was hoping for and needing. Well Netflix screwed up and it’s not surprising at all.
@@lunagrace2872 I hope Tv and movies are gonna get over their grim dark phase, or at least that the aesthetic of grimdark is the only aesthetic that can be used to tell "adult stories"
If they wanted to make it more adult, all they had to do was add a bit of complexity to some plot points and characters (though Winx Club was already pretty good on that level) and take out some or a lot of the repetitiveness. They really switched the whole show and all of its original and fantastic charm instead. 🙄 I would have loved to watch a live action Winx if it was done right. What a shame.
I think Netflix is still caught up in the idea that all teens wanna be mature and like "I'm 16 I'm practically an adult". When in reality we be just playing minecraft, praising frogs, and laughing at the Juan memes.
i’m in high school and all of my friends would rather laugh at poop jokes and binge watch all the disney fairy movies.
Yes. All we want is more Anime and good Disney films. Yesterday my mother had me watch 'over the hedge' with her, [Yes, I found the meme in it] and it was fun xd
They're mistaking 11 year olds who want to be adults with actual teenagers...teens don't want edgy bad stuff, we want wholesome stuff
Netflix idea of teens: "It'S nOt A fAzE mOm@1!@@! GoD lEaVe Me AlOnE, i'M 16 sO i'M a GrOwN uP"
Actual teens: "alt. Gfs" "FUCK YEAH SHE-RA'S AWESOME" * laughing at dumb shit on the internet *

*og winx:* everybody liked that
*netflix winx revamp:* everybody *disliked* that
Well, some edgy teens 18-20 yolds, who are into riverdale are defending it.but overall, yeah, no one likes it
@@nessyness5447 girl I love riverdale, and I’m older than that. But this looks like shit.
@@beautifullEternal when you say you love riverdale you say like for real or for poking fun at it because of how ridiculous it is? Because i have a friend who watches it just to laught at how badly is written and i can understand that .
This ruined my childhood I loved winx
I hate riverdale and i like the show its just not winx they should change the name to something else bc its just not winx
I really hate how shows scare away from feminine aesthetics when making any live adaptations. As if they aren’t able to be dark or carry dark topics and mood. It’s also made me feel like we are still forcing kids to grow up and just leave behind femininity and brightness even if they don’t want to
Netflix: how can we make wink club appeal to an older audience but still keep the same plot?
Also Netflix: DrUgS
