I don't think that Hailey did this on purpose but- I appreciate the fact that on the neck up shot Annabeth's eyes look a lot like owl eyes. It's fitting because owls are a popular symbol for Athena, her mother
People think Romeo and Juliet are star crossed lovers? Move over, Percy’s dad and Annabeth’s mom hate each other so much that their kids usually don’t get along that well.
One Blue Duck! Same- Seaweed brain is an absolute necessity. Just do that at. Least. Once. It doesn’t have to be a big thing. Just have Annabeth walk up to Percy and say “Hey, Seaweed Brain.” That’s all I need. That’s it. But no.
Book: Annabeth and Percy are both 12 years old. Annabeth has honey blonde hair and beautiful princess curls. She has gray eyes. Movie: Haha, we don't do that here.
I remember being the most angry about how the changed clarisse when I was younger, just because of how obviously “beautified” she was. She’s this wide shouldered, muscular, more “masculine” teenage girl. She’s scary and aggressive and a bully, not a super skinny, sexy, mean girl.
I wanted to die after what they did to Annabeth. The reason her character looked like a stereotypical valley girl was to highlight how enemies could easily underestimate her much like Athena. Athena, her Mom, was underestimated in the Greek times because of her femininity and yet she is one of the most bad ass Greek goddesses of all time. In the movie, they were trying to make Annabeth "bad ass" by making her look less stereo typically girly, while at the same time, making her really boring.
I've never read Percy jackson, I've only seen the movies, but I'm really into mythology and after I finished the first movie I was like "WHAT THE HELL HOW IS THAT GIRL THE DAUGHTER OF ATHENA WTF ATHENA IS THE MOST BADASS INTELLIGENT WISE DEITY IN THE OLYMPUS WHAT IS WRONG WITH THAT GIRL THEY *MUST* HAVE MADE A MISTAKE SHE CAN'T BE ATHENA'S DAUGHTER" and now I guess I was on point😂
My opinion: JUST BECAUSE YOU GIVE A GIRL A SWORD THAT DOESN’T MAKE HER INTERESTING! That’s how most movies portray “powerful” female protagonists and it pisses me off. I’m a girl and I find that more offensive then not having female protagonists because then people are like, “Stop complaining, female protagonists are normal now.” And I’m like “NO! THERE NOT! IM NOT JUST GONNA SIT HERE AND ACCEPT THE BARE MINUM!” (Oof, sorry for this dumb rant.)
When I first saw Annabeth in the movie I was like: Oh, there comes Clarisse Books: She has blonde hair Movie: I'm sure that's no too important Books: Her eyes are grey Movie: The contacts are really expensive, we'll live without it Books: She has a deep tan Movie: Well, we haven't commited to any of the other stuff, so why commit to this? Books: She is muscular Movie: Nah, let's just make her have a classic movie star body. Also: Annabeth literally lost a fight to Percy, who has no training WHATSOVER after doing nothing but training for five years (well actually in the movies it has to be more, since the actress is like 20), and then she's all like: Oh, you're gonna need me on this quest, i have more experience and am a better fighter than you. Me: Yeah roight
i despise how they turned Annaberg, a good rep of a strong female role into a “uwu i’m just a love interest that’s super pretty and doesn’t do anything”
“I have feelings for you. I’m just not sure if they’re positive or negative yet.” Just Why? Why do that?? She’s literally only there as a romantic interest and a decade later it *still* pisses me off.
Lavender: “There is a lack of black characters in fantasy stories...” Me, who is reading The Mark of Athena now: HAZEL! HAZEL! WE ARE BREAKING THE RULES WITH HAZEL!
So they turned a book for nerdy kids that featured interesting and complex characters into some primitive fratboy teenage flick. How many more movie adaptations will Hollywood ruin before it has enough money to choke on, srsly.
Annabeth is probably the most resourceful and level-headded character in the book, but they completely chopped off all of her interesting traits and made her "strong generic female love interest girl" in the "movie" (Using the term movie very lightly)
She was also strong too and that coincides with being resourceful and level-headed? Why is general strength of character an issue to you for a female character? Especially when it's already accurate?
Movie Percy when he gets Riptide: A pen? But it's a sword? How does that happen? That isn't physically possible. A pen? A sword? Book Percy when he gets Riptide: lol gimme it

Harry Potter at least had the excuse of their being so many characters in the books that get development, but in Percy Jackson and the olympians there's like 5-6 main characters you have to develop. Percy, Annabeth, Grover (not as much as the first two), Tyson, Nico, and Luke.

In the movie, Annabeth seemed like a really snotty annoying person to me. In the books, she was someone I looked up to. And, I was also upset about what they did to her in the movies.
You know, I'm SO happy to see this comment, because my brother was (as still is) really into Percy Jackson books but I knew little about them, so when I watched this movie with my brother, I thought these were the actual characters, and I still haven't read Percy Jackson, but I am planning on it very soon because I am reading the Magnus Chase series at the moment, but I can just say I hated how they were portrayed in the movie and kind of made me not want to read the rest of the books, but now that I got descriptions of the actual characters, I am more than excited to read them!
I used to draw him a lot and never get him right, he's not that well described in the earlier books and I wasn't so good at art when I was 12... 😂 I can relate.
As a twelve-year-old, I did not pay that much attention to clothes. So I don't think Percy would, either, unless it is very distinctive (like the Camp Half-Blood shirt). I definitely appreciate how difficult it made it for you, though. A single, young POV makes things difficult to adequately describe unless it is super important or distinctive.
As he's progressed, he's actually started dropping that as a fact xD He's been through way too much, he *deserves* this or that, but the gods need him again... "*sigh* I've got you, but you owe me big time."
• Wanna See My Shot Glass Collection • That was one of my favorite moments in the books. And the way he described how he was slowly losing control about the glass breaking in his mind was amazing. I’m sad that we don’t get to see a dark Percy anymore

A some directors tend to make female characters helpless or kinda dumb even when the books they adapted it from clearly state they’re powerful girls/women. Its quite upsetting.
I've actually started to noticed that recently! Like the main girl of the group is always super smart and powerful, but always ends up being "bested" by the inexperienced, average joe, male lead, as soon as he enters her scene!
Kristen C. I've noticed this as well! However, it's typically because they're more focused on marketing and think an inferior, appealing girl love interest will bring in more money. Seeing how lav designed her though, she has such a great character design in this aspect!! The love interest role is becoming so dumb and overused, especially when they dumb down the girl just to have her there.
Guys do tend to like powerful male main characters more than girls, but I don't think anyone in this day and age would want some helpless girl to be the love of their life. And that's not a feminist thing, it's just a fact that people don't like being highly depended on and no one regardless of gender wants someone that incompetent. It's why you're seeing more and more rep for females, especially with the action scene now. Of course, you'll still have beefy masculine men leads but if you look at superhero movies right now, we're seeing more powerful and or smart women, better than the men in some cases, or at least more inspiring (Wonder Woman, Black Widow, to name the obvious. Don't wanna bore you with a list) Yeah they may not get their own movies or shows as much but that's basic business and brand awareness. Name the most iconic superheroes in the world and you'll name basically all men except Wonder Woman. If the characters sold well, they'll get a movie. That being said, if a strong character who just happens to be female is in something you're adapting, why would you make them weak because they just happen to be female? If this happened with male secondary characters it wouldn't be as bad, but these producers sincerely don't know who they're marketing to anymore. No one wanted to see this garbage movie so they couldn't make a third like they were setting up with Thalia. Thank god honestly, I don't want to see how they could've fucked up her, Nico and Bianca
Leo described her as "scary blonde girl." Then Magnus described her as "if she was looking for me, I didn't want to be found. She was scary." Lol everyone thinks she's scary.
Just saying, but percy describes her when she's 12 and even then he saw she was intense. Leo sees her when she's 16 which is after she's been on a few quests, fought in a war, had to go through the whole luke thing, and had her boyfriend kidnapped. She grew into her scary appearance.
Ya and I was fuming mad about that and I don't get mad about movie characters done badly that often,I don't even notice half the times but annabeth and grover were done so badly
Oh gods she was horrible in the movie Like in the book I loved her she was so fierce but kind and just awesome And wen I first saw the movie I thought the supposed annabeth was clarisse in the first scene And wen we got to meet her I was like oh my gods what did they do to annabeth
If Percy was like 16 in the books, I wouldn’t mind the casting, but they casted grown adults to play 12 year olds which is by far the dumbest casting choice I’ve ever seen.

You know what really annoys me about the movies? Annabeth's reaction to learning about Luke's betrayal. In the books Annabeth and Luke have been friends for ages, Annabeth looks up to him and has a crush on him... and yet, in the movie she just calmy comes to the conclusion that he betrayed them and has absolutely no reaction to finding this out. It really annoys me
and in later books she continues to like admire him and even deny it in some cases. She still like holds onto the fact that Luke was one of her favorite people even when he kidnapped her and tried to kill her. She still denied that he was fully bad and it like actually hurts her that he turned out the way he did.

Book: annabeth can hold up the skies and easily take people out Movie: gets beat when a person touches water and thrown down by a useless demigod and cant get up unless percy helps her up
We all know why they destroyed Annabeth. They needed an eye candy damsel in distress to be Percy's love interest because Hollywood seems to think that girls can't be tough AND the love interest at the same time.
Nah, they were just shit adaptations. Hollywood has had great female leads for decades: Ellen Ripley, Sarah Connor, The Bride from Kill Bill, every Slasher Final Girl (Special props to Megan from Friday The 13th Part 6 and Nancy from Nightmare on Elm Street) and so on
@@adaa9574 Agreedm Also, there are other racial charcaters to put into consideration. It can be a problem if she is too tan and has darker skin than some non-white charcaters, so I think that's why some artists are rather cautious.
@@saturnssubliminals Ummmm...Viria's depiction of the characters often changed little by little alongside her skills and details. @@poseidons_child.how has the show been going? Better I hope?
I remember being the most angry about how the changed clarisse when I was younger, just because of how obviously “beautified” she was. She’s this wide shouldered, muscular, more “masculine” teenage girl. She’s scary and aggressive and a bully, not a super skinny, sexy, mean girl.
The second description fits Drew more than Clarisse.
Clarise is weird, because she should've be looked kinda fat
Leah MacElhiney what??
They just like removed Clarisse entirely from the first movie
Do u know that Clarise end name is like Brazil thingy

I KNOW! It really sucks like you don’t have to make them exactly how they are described but at least make them like their character.
Ikrrrrr maybe it's also because every Californian girl tho-
My opinion: JUST BECAUSE YOU GIVE A GIRL A SWORD THAT DOESN’T MAKE HER INTERESTING!

Because they feel like love interest or damsels gives off that classic princess feel. When the main is a Male hero.
@@NothingGoodHere1001 welcome to sexism my dude

Have you seen Vira's art? Simply. Breathtaking.
@@saturnssubliminals Ummmm...Viria's depiction of the characters often changed little by little alongside her skills and details.
Her nowadays Annabeth has a tan, yes, but some older versions of her drawings depict her having fair skin. I also read on her twitter or tumblr that she got a bit of criticism from some users for drawing Annabeth's tan too deep, to the extent that it was almost darker than Piper's skin.... So she sort of switches coloring from time to time.
But yeah Viria is srsly my favorite artist out there. No contest. She has some mad talent which a gift given to the world by god. She deserves so much more recognition and appreciation.
@@user-bv4gt1vk2k Well, I can kind of see why she would make it more fair. And viria is extremely talented i agree with you.
Movie ginny: they ruined me completely! I am the worst character and everything about me sucks! No one is worse than I am!
Movie annabeth: hold my cap
Literally anyone in the PJO movies except Percy and maybe Luke:
*Hold my Blue cherry coke*
Movie Annabeth: Hold my cap, oh wait, I DON'T HAVE ONE !!
_what cap?_
I hated luke in the movies, he is one of my favourites in the book
What cap am i trying to hold. Remember you dont have one.
She should read/watch the second book/movie and fix Luke, Tyson and Clarisse
Very off topic and I havent finished the books but Tyson better than Grover. Why the fuck am I sharing this? I dont know
PJO needs to be adapted into a cartoon/animated series that can stay loyal to the books.
Can she draw it please
Why doesn't this have more likes WE NEED THIS
Can i VA Annabeth plz and thnks

Movie adaptations really annoy me.
If your going to make a movie version of a very beloved book.
Do. It. Right.
Preach.
At this point, movie adaptations that do it right are as rare as diamonds.
Zea I apologize in advance. Oof so diamonds aren’t actually rare, it’s just a myth that jewelers made to sell more product
You learn something new everyday!
Arkwing_ 2.0 you don’t have to apologize for that lol. I can just change it to red diamonds because I heard those are the rarest
"roman god-like handsomeness" "twelve years old"

Actually, the 'Roman god-like handsomeness' thing was from Son of Neptune, where Percy is 16. So we're good.

Me: WHAT DID YOU DO TO ANABETH!!!! HAVE YOU EVEN READ THE BOOKS!!! THEY EXIST!
Movie: Percy Jackson books who??
Which is really disappointing because Annabeth is my hero :(
What Percy Jackson movies? Oh, you mean the Potato Janitor movies?
In a movie interview, someone said ‘do you like blue food?’ And the actors were like ‘wut. What does that have to with Percy Jackson?!’

it surely seems like thats what they did
They didn't even read his age lol
i dont think they even read anything tbh
Nah mate, they probably just looked at the cover, title, asked somebody about like, 2 characters, and made the Peter Johnson franchise.

I feel like a lot of people tend to forget that Grover was described as having his horns hide under his hair. So thank you for not making his horns visible.
I’m not in the Percy Jackson fandom, but damn. The movies got almost everything wrong.

I know she's useless in the movie it's pretty sad
Don't forget racist with Grover-
Exactly! Annabeth, who has been going to the camp for YEARS, got beaten by Percy who doesn’t know jacksh*t about his powers. That just p*ssed me off tbh. Annabeth deserved better lmao.
Imo they were pretty racist for whitewashing annabeth
