    Bought a crown Vic engine from a police cruiser for my F150 that I bought with bent valves. Was told it ran good but decided to open it up to check it out. Glad I did because although the engine never jumped time the left side lower guide had broken in two and was just laying in there still guiding the chain but ready to get crunched. Nice video ! Explained everything without the bee-bop !

    Just finished a timing job on my 4.6 and didn't know that the timing marks on the chains won't line up with the dots on the gears after rotating the engine and was starting to worry that I did something wrong! Thanks for the video telling me about that they will only line up when you first put them on. After rotating the engine twice all three timing marks lined up like they should. Thanks for the video great job!

It sucks I have to tear this down again I put all motor craft shit in there and it lasted about 45 K the valve covers suck to get off I had to take a die grinder and cut the corner off the evap housing to clear the valve cover so I could get it out and put it back in. I guess you are supposed to unbolt the motor mount and drop the engine down to get the pass side cover off . I wish Ford had that shove up their ass and the Motor craft chain and guides that failed I change my oil every 3000 miles and even use Motor

Or does it not matter as long as for example the rh timing mark matches with crank timing mark with no slack on one side of the chain? Not sure if you can make sense of this question but im trying to learn lol

    Hey man so when taking off the tensioners for the Passenger side cam, is it normal for it to kind of skip teeth and settle because there's no tension? And also what is the best position for the crank to be at for this? Because people say keep it at 9 o'clock to prevent it hitting a valve because it does snap back once the tension is gone. Thanks!

    • @jimmyaber5920
      @jimmyaber5920 2 года назад

      @@custombill the turning is easily countered by a wrench on the cam bolt until the hinged rail and then tensioner is fitted. When the tool is used you will have trouble starting the tensioner bolts as tool doesn't hold chain tight on drive side to give enough slack on the slack side. You can move the crank key to 9 o'clock to get to a spot where cams stay put since chain marks by dots is how it is being timed. A wrench will still be needed to tension chain on drive side for tensioner install if this is done.
