Man if that's not some upgraded modern day porn music lol. I borrowed this huge c-clamp type spring compressor and I wish I would've bought that tool. I feel silly using this huge thing. One thing I've learned rebuilding my 4v was don't skimp on anything and spend the extra money for everything. These aren't motors to bills on a budget or believe me so, something will give and make you pay for it later on. If you have to replace any timing component, just replace everything. If you don't have the money just wait and do it right. I replace the oil pump when I rebuilt the bottom end and not even 100 miles were put on it and I'm replacing it again just to have that piece of mind. I replaced all the primary timing components but left the secondary stuff as if thinking everything was A-O-K, and a secondary tensioner gave way, broke the sprocket and chain and bent 2 of my intake valves. Being an interference motor, I got lucky that's all that was damaged. Thanks for the vid I swore I took the retainer out skinny side up but watching this vid, I realized I didn't. I learn something new everyday 👍🏾

Does it not have to be on the compression stroke TDC = top dead center ? Or can it just be top dead center= TDC ?

I doubt you’ll see this but I would really appreciate if you could help me out I recently did a head gasket kit (driver side) on my 03 mustang gt and the engine was spinning freely when I put the timing chains on and spun it one full lap around it just locked up the engine didn’t wanna spin at all I had to spin the cam shaft to get it to the timing marks so I did one full spin and it sat perfectly in the timing marks please help I don’t know what to do

What about the crank shaft the keeper should be faced noon up i also had to replace right cylinder head so I put everything back on and worry were to set the crank shaft

I did exactly the same job on my engine my only error was using the same timing chains I replace tensioners and guides and when I put everything back together I had a rattling chain sound do u think that it can be that my timing chains stretch ? Or can it be my oil pump ? I would really appreciate your respond thank u

Hey i was replacing a 97 lincoln ford 4.6l 2v v8 head gasket and when i set the crankshaft to top dead cent the cams where totally off but my engine ran smooth its weird , while the heads were off i forgot to turn the cams into the timing position and bolted them onto the heads and now when i try to turn cams to the timing position i can feel valves hitting pistons, do i gotta take the heads back off ?

You know ...I have built many older V8 engines that ran forever with out dam cam chains ..internal camshaft ..did they run any better. .hell yes....so much for progress !!! 🤣🤣

hey man great video - I'm about to do this job for the first time on my 2011 Crown Vic Police Interceptor. I watched a ton of videos and many say once you lock the cams with the cam locking tool to not rotate them again with the chain off, or it could mess up the timing. but then most videos end up rotating them slightly with the tool off, to line up the chain properly? little confused by this

I was worried about number one being at TDC before I take it all apart. I did the screw driver trick and ended up with a bent screwdriver. I don’t have the heads off yet. Hopefully I don’t have a ruined piston too.
