For sure. If they don’t react or at least comment on the last low note, sometimes I won’t give them a like, because I feel they aren’t giving it their full attention. Though I’ve realized there are actually people, it seems, who *can’t* hear it.
Aye, Geoff has one heck of a range and Blackbird showcases it. Also he classes himself as a Baritone who can do Bass. From memory he hit an E1 at the last note.

Still, his lowest chest note is around an F#1, which is still 3/4 of octave below most bass singers. All sounds were made from a human voice, but manipulated with reverb, delay, and other studio tricks.
Per Geoff's own words, no subharmonics here, all full chest voice! He's soooo amazing! My bad = Oogie Boogie ends in a subharmonic (several people said it's an E1 but idk). The all chest is Sixteen Tons.

Geoff is one in a billion. He has a massive range from a falsetto G4 to a subharmonic C1. I've been following him for a few years now and have actually witnessed his range increase. You should definitely also check out Geoff's solo work, including his cover of The Beatles' Blackbird, and Radiohead's High and Dry. You won't be disappointed!

I have an E1 on my channel. And for a trained lower baritone like myselv it takes practice but it is doable. What I am most impressed by is that he jumped from B4 down to B1 and THEN the E1 subharmonic, which is awesome. And he has even done that live, which is insane and I don’t really know how many people in the world who would be able to pull that off and make it sound good.
I’m not sure what the end notes are, but in VoicePlay’s “Little Mermaid Medley” featuring Rachel Potter, he does a pretty smooth slide covering (I think) over four octaves.
Dennis Kovacich in the little mermaid, there is a slide from a D5 in mix down to a D2 in chest. And then (according to Geoff) that there is another recording where he goes from a D2 to a D1, which is stacked on top of the ending of the D5-D2 recording so it appears to be a seeming-less 4 octave slide.

When you feel like coming back to Voiceplay there are some really great new songs: My Mother Told Me, Hoist the Colours, and Halo are well worth the time and energy.
Welcome down the Voiceplay rabbit hole! I would definitely recommend checking out their Queen in 5 Minutes, their Little Mermaid Medley, and their cover of Can't Help Falling in Love (the latter is a very stripped-down video, but absolutely suits the song). The guy with the beard is Earl Elkins, (1st tenor). He left the group mid-2020, but he's in a lot of their back catalog, and has the most amazing voice. I'd also recommend checking out Home Free, another a capella group. They are more into country music (their cover of Folsom Prison Blues is amazing), but they also do some other styles - they recently released a sea shanty medley that is extremely fun.
Really? I myself prefer if they pause very often because then I can actually hear their reaction to every part. I personally hate it if someone doesn't pause once through the whole video AND barely says anything at the end. For this I like that she put the text in though
VoicePlay is a phenomenal group. Pentatonix are all very talented singers, but I have never really loved their arrangements; conversely, this is where VoicePlay, IMO, really shines. Their transitions are creative and flawlessly executed, they trade off leads and harmonies, and it's a rare song they perform which doesn't spotlight every single member at some point. Because as blatantly talented as Geoff is? The other guys are actually just good; they're all monsters in their own right. Not only that, but most of these guys have been singing together since at least 1997 when the group was formed. The lineup of the group has changed over time, but of the guys in this video Earl- beard, Tenor 1, Geoff- bass, and Layne- percussion were founding members, and all attended high school together. Working together that long as a group can only be an asset to their performances. Not only that, it's so obvious that they love what they do and that even after all this time they are still having fun doing it, and that brings something to a performance that no amount of classical training with ever provide. I'd suggest more of their songs, but honestly, I've rambled on as it is, and you're not really going to hit anything bad on their page. I tend to think that more recently (say, within the past year to year and a half) their arrangements have really sharpened up a lot, because nearly every video released in that period has been a showstopper. I do hope you'll check out more of their work; you definitely won't be disappointed in them.
I love the way you handle your reaction and commentary, letting yourself just enjoy the first listen through and then in the edit add in the insights and comments. Subscribed. 4:30 - Yep, that's the face I look forward to on any Voiceplay/Geoff Castellucci videos.
Geoff Castellucci also did a cover of "Sixteen Tons" where he sang all the parts. If you like VoicePlay and Pentatonix, I'd also recommend Home Free, especially their cover of "Man of Constant Sorrow".
Voce Plays piece, This is Halloween , shows off their mid range voices as well as incredible make up and artwork. Geoff has a new song out right now, a cover of John Denvers - Take me home, country roads, then you'll hear his low notes
If you haven't heard of them, Van Canto is a very interesting acapella group. They do heavy metal acapella and the only instrument used is drums. But every other instrument is done completely by voice. The Final Countdown by Van Canto is amazing.
You absolutely have to react to What Child Is This / Child of the Poor - The Hound + The Fox. I legitimately got chills the first time I watched it. Its so good.
To help fill out your acapela catalog you need to add Home Free. Since you are familiar with Pentatonix you could start with Ring of Fire featuring guest Avi Kaplan.
I like the way how you did this reaction, more precisely, the 'subtitles' below the reaction. You didnt stop the video while listening and personally me, it was a much enjoyable reaction video whit that solving😁
Sabina Geoff has a channel on here. One episode, he explains to how to sing bass in low range without damaging vocal chords especially ones in subharmonics like the one at the end of this song, an E1.
His subharmonic notes are just crazy. Welcome to the world of VoicePlay and Geoff Castellucci (the bass). They do many "straight" beautiful songs and they cover so many styles, but things like Queen in 5 minutes is another dramatic one, and The LIttle Mermaid, under the sea is a lot of fun.
That last note was an E1, the lowest E on a piano keyboard. How low can you go? That was so low it would easily go under a limbo bar just laying on the ground. Basso Profundo indeed.
Welcome to the VoicePlay rabbit hole. It is very nice down here. Now, just as a fair warning, there is another connected rabbit hole belonging to Geoff Castellucci, the bass singer from VoicePlay. He does a lot of solo work there, often layering multiple recordings of himself on top of one another to make a full arrangement. He isn't purely acapella on his channel, but he does very well with the instrumental accompaniment. I've yet to be disappointed with one of his videos, though I still haven't quite had the fortitude to listen to the full reading of Hans Christian Andersen's Little Mermaid that he did. Still, if you want a good introduction point to his channel, I highly recommend his Sixteen Tons video. It is amazing.
Okay. Small list of characters aside from Santa and Oogi Boogie. The beat boxer is Zero the dog, obviously. Lock Shock and Barrel are the characters played by the backup vocalists. The one in red on the right is Lock, the demon. Middle singer is Shock, the witch. The singer to the left is Barrel, the skeleton.
I don't have perfect pitch, but I think that final note of Geoff's was something around an F1. If you want more Voiceplay, I'd recommend the medley they've done of songs from The Little Mermaid (in collaboration with a guest female vocalist whose name eludes me right now). Or their cover of Halloween, also from The Nightmare Before Christmas. Geoff has his own channel, in which he posts covers (he has a great cover of Sixteen Tons, in which he layers his voice to great effect) and tutorials on singing subharmonics.
When I first saw this I said that's that guy with long hair in the band Home Free in makeup Austin this guy looks just like him if you didn't know better you'd think it was him it even sounds like them good but very interesting
I advice Little Mairmaid Medley...it had an incredible groove and the female singer featuring the song, doing Ariel, is amazing. Geoff is a perfect Ursula 😈
The bass is Geoff Castellucci. He has some instructional RUclips videos on how to find your best voice range & how to extended it. There are ways to NOT get Pentatonix not blocked. :-)
VoicePlay has another one you should watch. It is This is Halloween and it shows more of the versatility of their voices. You definitely should watch the Home Free. Their bass Tim Foust taught Geoff to go that low. Tim has gone so low he has blown speakers.
I'll jump on the train of those recommending Home Free. They're the group that really got me into modern-day A capella. Like others have mentioned though, don't react to "Mayday" until you've done 6 or so songs by them. The one's I'd recommend to start off with are "Ring of Fire," "Man of Constant Sorrow," "Die a Happy Man," "Folsom Prison Blues," "The Butts Medley," "Sea Shanty Medley," and "Elvira.
Hi lovely lady! Geoff Castellucci, the bass voice, does several selections in which he sings all of the parts. Please react to "Sixteen Tons" and "Country Roads" to experience his incredible versatility. Please say hi to Henri. She's cool like you.
Yes this group and Homefree are two ofmy favorite groups, Homefree is a country A Cappella and their Man of Constant Sorrow would be a good start. Nice reaction to the lads!
Wow that was a great unintended Marge Simpson voice impression at around 6:00 :D I love your love for music and your calm, grounded presence :) Oh and I love The Nightmare Before Christmas and especially the songs in it
You should check out Voice Play’s latest Viking inspired sea shanty “My Mother Told Me” - it’s amazing. And Home Free’s “Man of Constant Sorrow” and “May Day”. Awesome.
Came back just to say - man, not to harp on about it, but just watched Overdrive by Steam Powered Giraffe, and it has it all: stock photos, rap, a stomping beat, a synth track that rides on waves taller than the sea's ever dared to be, beautiful and cool voices, hecka flashy visuals, and a comedic over-confident-on-purpose attitude. It is a fitting title for the mv. If you happen to like voices, check that one out everyone. Well, goodbye!
Feel free to go as far down this rabbit trail as you want. I will gladly listen to Geoff sing anything, up to and including the New York City phone book!
yes Geoff(pronounce like Jeff) is one of the 3 my favourite bass singers (the other two Tim Foust and Avi Kaplan) he can make very low subharmonics and a special range.By the way Voice Play "My mother told me". Stay safe
@@sabina1118 If you turn on the closed-captioning, that note is actually labeled as "subterranean". They're not wrong, lol! It's a subharmonic E1, and you're right about how full and round Geoff's tone is, even at that low a register. He's an incredible vocalist- this video doesn't even showcase how ridiculously *high* he can go as well. And if this wasn't enough, he also does a lot of the vocal arrangements for the group (although this song was arranged by Layne Stein, the beatboxer. He's the fellow with the glowing nose in this video).
I highly recommend any of Geoff's (The bass) solo work, where he records all the pieces himself. If you'd like to hear another contrast between his voice and the high voiced Earl, check out Daddy Sang Bass by Voiceplay.

That last note is an E1. It's basically an Earthquake with vowels - *Four* keys from the bottom of a keyboard. There are less than ten people currently engaged in professional music who can reach and hold it clean. Not too bad?? 🙂
Hi Sabina... Forgive me if you are already well aware of this beautiful work by The Danish National Symphony Orchestra there in Copenhagen. Their rendition of "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly" from that movie's soundtrack. It was written by Italian Composer Enrico Morricone. A really prolific composer responsible for dozens and dozens of movie soundtracks. The movie soundtrack featured here, is from one of a series of "spaghetti westerns" staring Clint Eastwood. Given this name because they were directed by Italian Directors but filmed in Spain. The most pristine recording is on Vimeo- Malv Video Collection. If that is not accessible to you then on DR Koncerthuset's RUclips channel. If you are not already aware of this iconic theme song, listen to the original from the movie soundtrack first. Then prepare to be astonished by how the DNSO performs it.... truly AMAZING. The operatic vocalizations by Danish Soprano Christine Nonbo Anderson are breathtaking. Run time 6:13 on Vimeo. Recorded live Jan 2018.
Yes it is my first time hearing this. I know the original film and music. Now what I don't know is who the original singers are. But this group is as good if not better than the original singers. They sounded exactly the same. If they are not the originals then they were amazing
I'm so glad you saw this and Rainbow 🌈 I don't know if you would mostly instrument but Lazy by Deep Purple STUDIO from Machine Head so fun and try Deep Purple Strange Kind of Woman from MADE IN JAPAN one of most incredible vocal performances OF ALL TIME I really adore watching my faves with you 💜
You will be getting a lot of requests for a group called Home Free now that you did one of their main rivals. I do want to warn you though, I strongly recommend you don't do their cover of 'Mayday' by CAM until you've seen at least 3 or 4 other videos from them. They do something in Mayday that shocked their fan base, which you will miss if you aren't familiar with what each member does at least a little. I recommend their covers of 'Some Girls Do', 'Think A Little Less', 'Die A Happy Man', 'Thank God I'ma Country Boy' and the one you'll be hearing a TON of people talk about, 'Man Of Constant Sorrow'.
Good advice about "Mayday" -- but 6 "normal" songs in advance would be a good "break in" period. "Some Girls Do" is a good choice because it features Chance -- the newest member of the group. Others with Chance solos include "The Gambler" and "American Pie." "Ring of Fire" was recorded before Chance replaced founding member Chris Rupp, but it's very special because Home Free borrowed Avi Kaplan from Pentatonix and doubled the power of the bass section! Music-wise, Home Free has done very well getting through the pandemic. They're recording parts in their homes across America and then their studio guys piece it together.
The facial expressions the first time people hear the likes of Geoff hit the subharmonics are what make these videos so worthwhile lol.
For sure. If they don’t react or at least comment on the last low note, sometimes I won’t give them a like, because I feel they aren’t giving it their full attention. Though I’ve realized there are actually people, it seems, who *can’t* hear it.

Love your reaction and the shock you had...great reaction
You have to check out Geoff's solo performance of Blackbird by the Beatles. He sings all the parts of that and really shows his range.
I like the way how you did this reaction, more precisely, the 'subtitles' below the reaction.
You didnt stop the video while listening and personally me, it was a much enjoyable reaction video whit that solving😁
Sabina
Geoff has a channel on here. One episode, he explains to how to sing bass in low range without damaging vocal chords especially ones in subharmonics like the one at the end of this song, an E1.
Their ranges are shown off even more in the Little Mermaid Medley, featuring Rachel Potter.
Congrats loved the fact you enjoyed it
Thanks Victor!! Good to hear from you :D
They have a new song out My Mother Told Me. Ft Jose Rosario Jr. very nice song i think you would enjoy it.
Nice. Glad you found these guys. Geoff Castellucci in particular.
VoicePlay has many songs out there. Carry on my wayward son is a good 1976 Cover. Great reaction 🙌🏻
That last bit was a B4 to subharmonic E1 in less than 10 seconds!!!!
The bass singer does a great cover of the Beatle song Blackbird solo in which he sings all parts.
Voiceplay's bass Geoff Castellucci has produced some great stuff such as Blackbird, Sixteen Tons and the Headless Horseman.
..
Watch MISTY MOUNTAINS with Tim Foust. You'll be in for a treat too!😉😉😉
Geoff just released his own multi-layered version of that song as well.
Hi lovely lady! Geoff Castellucci, the bass voice, does several selections in which he sings all of the parts. Please react to "Sixteen Tons" and "Country Roads" to experience his incredible versatility. Please say hi to Henri. She's cool like you.
Don’t forget his cover of “Blackbird”!
Pentatonix, Home Free and Voiceplay are all wonderful a capella groups!
Yes this group and Homefree are two ofmy favorite groups, Homefree is a country A Cappella and their Man of Constant Sorrow would be a good start. Nice reaction to the lads!
Geoff bass, earl high tenor dude with big beard, Eli also tenor the bald guy, jnone baritone, and layne the beatboxer.
Wow that was a great unintended Marge Simpson voice impression at around 6:00 :D I love your love for music and your calm, grounded presence :) Oh and I love The Nightmare Before Christmas and especially the songs in it
You made this a True Reaction Video - Very Enjoyable. Have a Great Weekend. : )
Thanks a lot and you too!! 🤗
Subharmonic E1 Sabina !! You’re awesome 👏🏻 💋
You should check out Voice Play’s latest Viking inspired sea shanty “My Mother Told Me” - it’s amazing. And Home Free’s “Man of Constant Sorrow” and “May Day”. Awesome.
Yes indeed they are acutely talented, aren't they?
That stunned silence says it all. lol :D
I like male voice characters like the Joker. so low ... and at the end who knows how many notes are low, very low. incredible
Love these ❤👍 so glad you've discovered them ...listen to ''this is Halloween '' and kidnap sandy claws xx
Take a go at:
Home Free - Ring of fire
Tim in that group can also go sub-harmonic low notes
Feel free to go as far down this rabbit trail as you want. I will gladly listen to Geoff sing anything, up to and including the New York City phone book!
yes Geoff(pronounce like Jeff) is one of the 3 my favourite bass singers (the other two Tim Foust and Avi Kaplan) he can make very low subharmonics and a special range.By the way Voice Play "My mother told me". Stay safe
Low is an under statement with Geoff lol x
True that 😂😂❤️
@@sabina1118 If you turn on the closed-captioning, that note is actually labeled as "subterranean".
Your face is hilarious! You are also just blown away by this performance. Check out Geoff's new cover of Monster Mash - just in time for Halloween 🎃.

Thanks
..
Jeff is one of the 5-octave freaks of nature!
Okayyy, that was ... Refreshing
Anything by lice Play is awesome. Their range is amazing. Check out the bass singer's solo covers - Geoff Castellucci.
oh dear, what a rabit hole you discovered ... ;) your first moments after the song ended... gold :D have fun with voiceplay and stay safe :)
Your so pure
Love voice play but love Home Free a little bit more please check them out When A Man Loves A Woman, Man of Constant Sorrow, Meet In The Middle, Thinking Out Loud/Let's Get It On and Hillbilly Bone some of my favorites
Home Free is another acapella group with än extreme bass. Check out their Sea shanty medley
That last low note is basically just electrical static :)
Hahaha, well said 😂
...or an earthquake!
I told you about Geoff Castellucci insane bass ^^
Fisrt time to see it my self cause of you hehe
