lol not gonna lie..I LOVE watching voice coaches and other people react to that low note Jeff drops at the end..it's just a joy to watch the disbelief that a note that low is coming from a human voice box.
10:00, he uses a vocalized lip buzz. If you lip buzz a note, let’s say E2, and then sing a B2, a fifth higher, an acoustic phenomenon will happen, called subharmonic. The result in pitch will be a vocalized lip buzz of E1. At the beginning it might be hard to coordinate but it is actually quite simple, and subharmonics can be done with the voice too to sing an octave lower. (Or add distortion, just like Freddie did).Relaxing the voice to a certain point, but not to vocal fry, will create a layer of fry on top of the chest voice per se. Now, this happens because one vocal chord flips one fifth higher. And so the result in pitch is one octave lower from the lowest original tone. E2+B2= E1 sub harmonic note. Which turns out to be how Geoff did the ending note. Vocalized subharmonics are harder to do, but after a few months they should start to work correctly. Usually it is a unique bassy sound and because of this, it is only the lower and lowest voices that can use their chest voice and then drop to subharmonics and make everything sound consistent. Usually tenors and sopranos have a limited low chest range and can’t disguise the subs per se, given that their chest voice is so high. Credits/ resources: David Larson
I believe the way Geoff does it is the same way I figured out subharmonics where you fry a note and sing a chest note to add the fullness. You can do it because your false chords and your actual vocal chords can be used at the same time
@@nzcroc1229 Personal circumstances caused Earl to have to leave the group. It was an amicable split with no hard feelings on anyone's part. They're continuing on with just J, Eli, Layne, and Geoff. Though in my opinion they really aught to be trying to recruit Rachel Potter full-time.

9:46, there might me some inward liproll bass action going on from the beatboxer to add another layer of bass to the dubstep part. After the really low part lasting for about 1 sec, he exhales a lot after a snare to be able to breathe. It adds a really cool effect !

I loved your reaction to this. I'm glad I'm not the only one that has to replay the same parts over and over again just to fully appreciate the masterworks that they are. The only part I feel gets missed on this song though is Geoff's subharmonic run at 7:36 during Layne's "to add a little spice".
That all said, can't wait to hear more Voiceplay here, and also more Home Free, of course. I'd recommend How Great Thou Art if you wanna be moved in awe
About 75% of reactions miss it.
Next up on your low note trek should be misty mountains by peter hollins featuring tim foust
I believe they layered Geoff for the lead and the bass. You can here it throughout the song.
I’m pretty sure J.None is going the bass for most of the song. You can hear/see Geoff take over the bass when J.None has actual lines.
You really need to listen to Geoff sing "Blackbird". He uses all the range of his beautiful voice, even the higher pitches. It was GORGEOUS.
I didn’t hear her say anything about when Geoff does the three note drop right after Layne/zero says “To add a little spice. Geoff amazes me every time with his range and the group as a whole is so special. I miss Earl. I always love to see the faces he makes as he is singing.
I mentioned it in chat...but yes "What's This' and "This is Halloween" were done a few years back....very awesome to listen to.
try Geoff Castellucci , "Blackbird" re-dubbed acapella he hits an E1
his rendition of "Bare Necessities" is on point as well, gotta love those low notes!
So glad he just came out with this, so great.
@@jeronougues "can't help falling in love" !!!!!!
@Ms. Tal here , here
yes please blackbird is an amazing showcase of his range and style
That E1 in the “Dubstep” part was actually Geoff, they recorded him in the lead and for the bass line
It was also Layne’s lip buzz
WISDOM ABRAHAMSON no he doesn’t
WISDOM ABRAHAMSON it’s Geoff backtracked
TheGlizzyGoober Correct it is both
WISDOM ABRAHAMSON He does in Moana with a chest A1.
Geoff recently released a solo cover of Tennessee Ernie Ford song called Sixteen Tons. Mr. Ford's version is the most famous. It came out in the 1950's. Definitely before your time. I remember hearing this song on the radio when I was a kid. As much as you enjoy low notes. I thought you might want to check out this rendition of a classic song. Stay safe Elizabeth.
This was the first reaction video I ever watched, and what an introduction!
I've watched this one about a dozen times - I love the enthusiasm and genuine enjoyment you display. And at the same time you help me notice so many new details and nuances I enjoy hearing, but for the first time I get to understand what makes it so fantastic. I love that you go "This is amazing and here's why" and then go "Listen to this again a couble of times so that you really hear what I mean". To be able to react that genuinely, and then immediatley tell us what make you react in a very clear and understandable fashion is deeply impressive.
You've introduced me to all these magnificent artists - VoicePlay, Floor Jansen and NightWish, Home Free, Sound of Silence by Disturbed, Postmodern Jukebox, The Hu, Pentatonix...
From the bottom of my heart - thank you for making listening to music and singing along with it (fairly badly but with even greater enthusiasm) that much more enjoyable!
Great reaction! Geoff is actually more of a baritone than a bass (his own words). But he has a crazy extension both ways, high and low. Very good singer.
00:25 Liz: You guys know that I love acapella music. You know that I love low notes as well.
Me: (knowing EXACTLY how this song ends, grinning)
Me: (grin getting wider and wider, every time she stops to talk about the latest low she just heard. Girl, you aint heard NOTHING yet.)
Also Me: (wait for it.... wait for it...)

Wow. Way to make it all about a fake conversation between you and the woman in the video. RUclips commenters are so insanely solipsistic.
@@fezzik7619 You do realize you ALSO are a RUclips commenter... just not entertaining.
@@CasualObserver68 so you think you’re entertaining and not just attention seeking?
I happen to think it was very clever. You're just a hater Fezzik
@@fezzik7619 isn't that the purpose of posting a comment rather than having a thought and keeping it to yourself?
still, "grin has achieved maximum deployment"???
tf is that?????
The absolute amazing options sub harmonics open up when it comes to low notes is awesome. Sing E2 and comes out as an E1... Love it!
14:00 if you want to go to the reaction that I think we all were waiting for 😂😂😂
lol not gonna lie..I LOVE watching voice coaches and other people react to that low note Jeff drops at the end..it's just a joy to watch the disbelief that a note that low is coming from a human voice box.
I vote for Geoff's cover of Blackbird, just came out a few days ago
ABSOLUTELY
upvote for sure
Definitely: Warriors. Superb

I believe the way Geoff does it is the same way I figured out subharmonics where you fry a note and sing a chest note to add the fullness. You can do it because your false chords and your actual vocal chords can be used at the same time
AYO THESE NERDS, U GAVE ME A STROKE READING THIS😂
@@000PontusLoeksFan000 hahaha
@@Sgtcrazyeyes235 yup
Goddamn I don’t know you got all of that out of David Larson’s videos
Man, the colors you blush, the faces you make, and the giggles you produce when you hear those low notes are SO adorbles, young lady! 😆💘
The giggle at 14:08 is the universal reaction to that note 😂
One of my favorites from them is Queen in 5 Minutes, it does a really great job of showcasing each of their voices.
The Santa is Geoff's brother-in-law.
Ever since I first heard this I was wondering who it was. I just thought they hired a random mall santa
To really showcase Earl, the "laser high voice" you were talking about, you should listen to "Death of the Bachelor".
It's a shame he left the group :(
@@gryphoncompanion Wait what's this all about?
@@nzcroc1229 yeah, he left the group in June
@@nzcroc1229 Personal circumstances caused Earl to have to leave the group. It was an amicable split with no hard feelings on anyone's part.
They're continuing on with just J, Eli, Layne, and Geoff. Though in my opinion they really aught to be trying to recruit Rachel Potter full-time.
You really are the only reaction channel that I feel has the most genuine reaction. You are full of joy and really try to be without biases even when a is a cover of a song you really like.
Please stay you who are.
Thanks for your comments. I just discovered Geoff. Your professional analysis added in so much information to appreciate this song. I knew I loved this video/song now I know why. Thanks for focusing on the others too. They provided depth (no pun intended) and texture without wouldn’t make Geoff sound as terrific.
6:50 Interesting you’ve brought up that fact, Geoff did want to become a rock tenor vocalist in the past so he trained a lot on his upper extension and mix, that’s why we get that sound

Did you realize what Geoff was doing in the background at 1:19 just after the line "To add a little spice"?
DId you see Geoff Do Tennessee Ernie Ford? It is amazing.
Could U react Colm McGuinness Hoist the Colour
And yes...Layne can beatbox while playing the violin...just like Kevin (PTX) cello-boxing ;) Sadly, Earl (their high tenor here) has left the group :(

Been listening to this cover for years. And your reaction to this is the reaction everyone should have. It’s so good. And seeing you so happy and excited about it makes me happy to see.
I would absolutely love a Voiceplay reaction vid to your reaction lol. As someone who doesn’t know much about music they already blow my mind so it’s amazing to see someone who knows what they’re talking about react in a similar way to me. It’s also fab having things explained or pointed out. I barely even noticed the arpeggio bit you went crazy for. Thank you for this!
Her faces as she's listening! Thoroughly enjoyed
Ikr finally a reaction vid where the person actually reacts
Watch their Queen Medley, everyone gets a feature so you get to hear everyone's voice
Scrolling through the comments to make sure I did t repeat this.
Geoff talks, in one of his behind the scenes videos, about how they strive to put their own spin on a cover song instead of just recreating it. All their songs are unique and amazing!
Wow, I wasn’t the biggest fan of this song, and didn’t understand the hype… until I watched this. You’ve given be a greater appreciation for all of the background and post-production work that was involved, and now I understand how incredible this song really is. THANK YOU!
You should be excited. This is amazing. Such vocal range and harmonies. Geoff is the best bass I have heard in ages. His bottom notes are almost off the charts. Plus he has a wonderful top end. These guys are wonderful. This is a fun and light hearted video. Good job girl. Thanks!
You neeeeeeddd to react to their newest melody, The little mermaid melody. Its so good!! Great Reaction Loved it!!!!
You should react to Geoff's new cover and The Little Mermaid Medley by voiceplay!!. I cannot wait anymore
I think we need a "So low it's like a burp" shirts.
They do this song live. I have seen it. It is exactly the same as this and geoff makes thd place shake at the end.
Even on a second listen, no one is prepared for the absolute subterranean notes Geoff can hit
“That’s so low, that’s almost like a burp” literally had me laughing out loud 😂😂
Your reaction is my reaction the first time. It is ALL.SO.GOOOOD
Love the reaction coupled with the facials. No body seems to catch the underlying bass and bgv/percussion. Fabulous cover and reaction.
Geoff did a great cover of Bare Necessities if you want to hear how crazy his range is!
9:46, there might me some inward liproll bass action going on from the beatboxer to add another layer of bass to the dubstep part. After the really low part lasting for about 1 sec, he exhales a lot after a snare to be able to breathe.
It adds a really cool effect !
With Voiceplay, I would also recommend Bridge Over Troubled Waters. Each of them has at least a small solo section as far as I remember.
Yeaah....next reaction
Eh, not necessarily. Generally when I comment with recommendations, it's because I think the person would enjoy it, regardless of whether or not they put it in a reaction video.
@@SirMethos agree with you....nice👍👍
Beyond the wonderful singing from Geoff, I love how camp this production is. It’s very true to the original movie!
It is absolutely incredible how knowledgeable about voices you are and how much you can break it down
I just stumbled across this channel today, and I have to say that I'm really delighted by what I've found! Your cheerful attitude is great, and even more importantly, you have a very cool ability to take apart a song and focus on the individual pieces and what makes them great. I've learned more about singing technique in three videos than I have in the last two years, as well as a brand-new appreciation for songs I've heard a hundred times! It's awesome, and you've totally earned a subscriber! :D
The Little Mermaid medley by Voiceplay is AWESOME
You should watch Geoffs video on how he does subharmonics like that last note, it's awesome! Loved the vid yet again!
I love all your vids, your enthusiasm and the detail you put in your analysis. Also love that you like acapella so much, as I'm enjoying VoicePlay and Home Free.
With that being said, I'm surprised you didn't mention Geoff's little background run around 7:37, right after "to add a little spice".
Looking forward to many more VP reactions from you!
I love your reactions. The attention you pay details. Your sense of humor.💓
That last low note was something you feel more than you hear.
