It's hard for you to understand the depth of their friendship without seeing the original series and the original movies
Especially Spock and McCoy
Agreed.
Trek 2009 is building on and reacting to 40ish years of prior Trek history...the more you know the more you will 'get' for good or ill what they are doing here.
Another one going in cold with no prior knowledge, like so many others who thought TOS campy and childish... so sad.
@@cleekmaker00Yeah, totally. These new films dont show WHY there is a fanbase to begin with. Its the allegory, the philosophy, the class, the drama, and character development. Plus, using science as a tool to solve problems. These have none of that. So its very shallow.
As others might’ve stated, Star Trek ran for three seasons on NBC; from 1966-1969, totaling 79 episodes.
In 1972, the show went into syndication television and gained more of a following through its fans; called “Trekkers”. It led to an animated series that aired on NBC for Saturday mornings from 1973-1975.
Attempts were made to bring Star Trek back to TV in the late 1970’s. Around the time Star Wars hit theaters in 1977, they instead made a movie; Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979). They made five other movies throughout the 1980’s and early 90’s, with Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (1991) being the last film featuring the original crew.
During the mid-80’s, Star Trek did return to syndicated TV with Star Trek: The Next Generation; aired for seven seasons and 178 episodes. In the mid-90’s, as the cast of Next Generation made movies, there were three other Trek shows: Deep Space Nine, Voyager, and Enterprise (a prequel series). They kept the franchise alive until 2005. And then about a year later, the film you’re watching went into development and was released in 2009.
Well, hope that got you caught up.
The older Spock is the original Spock from the 1960s series. All of the main characters were created in the 1960s.
Eric Bana doesn't get near enough credit for his talent
Millie, great reaction, this is an alternative timeline to the main story but the characters are the same. I suggest that you start by watching the original Star Trek series from the '60s then the films based off of that, welcome to the world of Star Trek.
Star Trek has tons of history, many spin off shows, animated series. In this sci fi universe anything is possible which make for unexpected plot line twists. Like the one where Spock from tbe future is able to talk with himself from the past lol. Its a great series I hope you enjoy more of it!
Yes, it all started with the original series in the 60's. You should definitely start there.
Well, let's get to it! 930 episodes of star trek over 12 series to get through. And 13 movies.
Right on! But its a lot to do for a channel. She should at least watch the 6 original films. Compared to these reboots (not to say they are bad) The original films with the original actors are better. No one can replace Shatner, Nimoy and Kelley. THEY are those characters. There's more depth, character and charm. They stories are "smarter" in many ways. Like, I didn't feel much emotion when a certain ship is destroyed. But in the original 3rd, I cry every time, watching it fall to the sky while James Horner's Heartfelt score fills me with emotion. It was a character itself. You don't get that kind of emotion and depth these days. But the new ones are fun regardless.
Great reaction Millie as usual. Just think it all started in 1965 tv series and they said it wouldn't go anywhere. I was a loyal fan from it's creation!🖖
Of course they could know the gender of their baby, just like we *can* now. I'm guessing they chose not to know until the baby was born, as many do today.
In the 60s, Star Trek the series on tv aired for 3 seasons. It's popularity wavered and it was cancelled. It's iconic status with the original cast (Shatner, Nimoy, ..)brought it back at the end of the 70s with a movie. (after Star Wars was so popular). Then in the 80s, Star Trek released 3 more movies with a mix of the original cast. In the 90s, Star Trek the next Gen,....and other Star trek spinoff series started and were a mainstay on television until 20 years ago. Then in 2009, they rebooted the whole thing again with this trilogy of movies.
The Kobayashi Maru test made its debut in the Wrath of Khan. In that movie, Kirk is eating an apple when he reveals how he solved it. Nice call-back having Pine eat an apple as the test rumbles on... Fun trivia: the guy-with-clipboard is Paul McGillion who auditioned for Scotty but lost to Simon Pegg. He played Scottish Doctor Carson Beckett in Stargate Atlantis and, co-incidentally, like original Scotty James Doohan, he's Canadian but was born in Scotland. And the Romulan at the end who says 'Sir that'll ignite the Red matter' isn't the actor on screen, its Wil Wheaton, 'Wesley' from Star Trek: the Next Generation.
The music in the opening battle still gives me goosebumps even after hearing it 10,000 times. So full of hope, so full of promise, so full of renewal, and blossoming, it is the music of the sun breaking through after a rejuvenating spring rain. And yet, behind it, are images of unspeakable mayhem, death and destruction.
Whoever suggested that you start here did you a HUGE disservice. These movies are basically only Trek by name.
You don’t understand the scene when he meets the older Spock because you haven’t seen any of the originals.
Oh Millie! There is so much you didn't get. I was slapping my forehead saying that you missed this line or that line. Take your time. Don't rush through it. Watch the original series (OS), fall in love with the characters and the way they interact. Then watch this one again and see just how much you missed and then you will get so much more from all of the movies. Remember: Take your time and enjoy!
I have never understood why someone would begin watching a great franchise without starting at the beginning to discover why it is great.
its very easy - people want to know what it is and they watch something more recent, so they could get a taste of it. if they like it, they'll watch the rest, if they dont - well...they wont. Simple
Hopefully millie starts watching the original TV series and the original movies. Then maybe this Kelvin timeline with make sense to her
But this is a beginning lol.
Old School Trek Fan and in all honesty this film is the easiest jumping on point for a newbie.
Because they want to..geezuz
Just so you know, this movie is more action focused than the TV series and older movies.
It's the Trek characters and ships done in the action style of Star Wars.
James Doohan's (Original Scotty) son is right next to Scotty when he beams up everyone. The voice of the Romulan saying"Sir, if you ignite the red matter" is Will Wheaton aka Wesley from TNG.
Definitely start with the original series which aired from 1966 to 1969! If you don't want to watch all 79 of the original episodes, there are plenty of "top episode" and "essential episode" lists posted online to guide you in choosing a subset. I suggest you watch at least 15-20 episodes to give you a solid grounding in the original series' lore, characters, relationships, etc.
From there you will have many choices regarding where to go next, e.g. the "Star Trek: The Next Generation" series which ran from 1987 to 1994 and is the favorite of many fans, or the dozen Star Trek movies that were released from 1979 to 2016. I'm sure you'll enjoy the journey (and get a lot of views!).
Yes. You will get a lot of views! Star Trek nation (or should I say universe) will follow you.
I'd love to see you watch the original series.
J.J. Abrams did a great job of navigating between having lots of references to the origin shows while also introducing newbies to the world of Star Trek without requiring that they know all of the back stories.
It's always interesting when people start with these specific movies. lol
Yay! A brand new Trekkie! Welcome to the family!
“After a 3 years her voice deep ‘Borat, Borat’ & she grow hair on her chest”
Smaug was the dragon from LOTR.
This director is very good at visuals, but tends to ignore the source material in his films, and he really doesn’t seem to understand interstellar distances.
Romulans have green blood because they are copper based blood cells as opposed to humans with iron based blood. Klingons have purple blood, just don't know what metal causes that. I'd love to see you watch the original series (1966-1969) the the original 6 films. Then go onto the Next Generation (1987-1994) and it's four films. I've loved Star Trek more than Star Wars because there was more to watch. Growing up all I had were the three original SW films, ST filled the sci-fi void.
Well, for example, some marine worms (such as peanut worms) have purple blood due to an oxygen-binding protein called hemerythrin. :)
You should start with the originals to fully grasp the setting and character relationships. Some choice original episodes would do like Balance of Terror which introduces the Romulans. Then you can watch the original movies which end with Star Trek VI The Undiscovered Country which is an excellent movie!
Probably not where I would have recommended starting Star Trek.
Then again, having watched it all I wouldn't start where I originally started either (the 4th film).
I would suggest you go back and watch the original series from 1966. Or at the very least several select episodes of importance.
Yes! Do a reaction to the 60s series!
Just happened across your channel and saw you were doing Star Trek. Good reaction and subscribed, hoping you continue with more Star Trek!
I was so pleased with the way the Star Trek reboot movies approached the divergent timelines between this "Kelvin" timeline and the "Prime" timeline of TOS and the first 6 TOS movies, and 4 TNG movies. I hope you'll go back and watch the originals at some point. Granted, Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979) is geared more for old TOS fans and has a pretty slow pace compared to contemporary movies, but the second movie in the series set a high standard for the rest of the movies to live up to.
don't worry too much about the time-travel element of the story. think of it as the "one weird trick" by the writers to allow themselves the freedom to use the original 1966 characters in a new alternate story-verse without being committed to the events from the original tv series, spin-offs and movies before it, which all happened in the same narrative universe. it's a reboot with a clean break.
TOS was definitely great!
Hope the original series TOS is your next watch. Those are the best of the bunch ❤
Thank you, Millie, for sharing your reaction to this.
Before you go on to the next movie in this "reboot" movie set you should, at a minimum, watch the episode Space Seed from the original series in the 60s and the movie Star Trek II The Wrath of Khan.
If you really want to understand the characters and the Trek Universe watch at least the first season of the original Series (started in 1966). If you like it continue on to the second season. Season 3 in not as good and you only need watch it if you want to be a completist.
Wow did you jump into the middle of the pool😂. I would suggest you go to the original series and watch "city on the edge of forever" next its in every top 10 list and will give you a through grounding in the Kirk, Spock, McCoy friendship . Funny enough its also a time travel story...
At least watch a top 10 of the original show. Its best episodes are still entertaining and thoughtful, and they will explain this narrative universe and why it's popular.
Please, please trim a few of those flowers; otherwise, great reaction. Go back to the beginning of Star Trek for better appreciation.
The Romulan Supernova and its aftermath is discussed in the series Star Trek Picard it tskes place some 15 years after the Supernova
Yeah do all the series as well 😊
In the opening sequence, did you recognize that George Kirk is played by Chris Hemsworth?
Its an interesting debate on whether to recommend the 2009 film to a new comer to the ST franchise, or to recommend the OST TV series, or perhaps the 1979 ST Motion Picture which was the first film in the series before the 2009 reboot. I was rather surprised that this received a consensus or majority recommendation. But I can see some of the argument because new comers might be put off of the low budget TV series, and the ST MP was not the best film of the franchise by any stretch. Modern viewers are used to big budget high tech action films so I can see why the 2009 film was recommended even though the modern viewer is not getting the great experience of seeing the original actors playing these iconic characters (except for Spock of course). So I think Millie did receive a great introduction to these characters based on the inherent acting and technical strength of the 2009 reboot (not unlike 2011's "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" is a great introduction to that 56 yo franchise).
Well… there are a LOT in the old world of Star Trek… it’s a bit like Doctor Who. Hundreds. We watched it and that means years, decades. If you want there is a “new” from this too, so after this movie trilogy, start Strange New Worlds, Picard and Discovery… but who knows how much? If you dedicate your channel to Star Trek for the hundreds episodes? 😂
Prodigy too
Really should have started with at least the first three original Star Trek movies (Star Trek: The Motion Picture, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, Star Trek: The Search for Spock) so you have an idea of how the bond between the characters were. This 2009 Star Trek movie is a re-imagined version of the original movies (i.e. alternate timeline).
Just wait till you see Into Darkness. Also, you have to see the original movies, all 6 of them. The best being The Wrath of Kahn
You have to watch an original episode of Star Trek.
Everything Star Trek is probably aiming a bit high, but a nice sampler of the best of every show and the movies would be a lot of fun.
A very enjoyable reaction. If you want to see more Star Trek, I suggest you start with the original 1960s tv series. While I don't think you need to watch the series to enjoy these movies, you'll have a better understanding of the relationships, and some of the inside jokes. For example, viewers of the original series will appreciate that, out of the three crewmen that dove down to the drill, it was the one in the red suit that was killed.
I think millie should join starfleet. I think she would eventually become captain of a starship.
Millie should get a Star Trek shirt. Just not a red one!
@@davers59 well millie is already a jedi knight so she could handle being a red shirt. They're not taking millie out so easily lol
Millie before you go on you should watch the original tv series first. Then the original movies. Then this alternate timeline might make sense to you
I'll admit, you shouldn't watch any more of the new movies until you watch the old series first. Or at the first movies starting from 1979.
@MillieMochiTV after this movie you should start with the 3 seasons from the original star trek, then, the next generation
then voyager (with a great female captain) and lastly, enterprise, then you can go to the original cast movies, and the next generation movies, this way the trek will be more enjoyable 😎
I would say forget Marvel. Star Trek is really the first true shared universe/multiverse. Spinning generations and different universes the mirror universe the Kelvin timeline as well as other timelines shown in the different tv series
i will subscribe just for Star Trek lol
The original Star Trek.
I always enjoy the modern day reactions to these epic stories. But folks of my generation - who grew up watching the original series - only wish you could fully understand the depth of their kinship to one another and the Enterprise. Hell - go watch the original series and the following movies with the original cew.
Awesome job! But yes, you definitely should watch the original films from Star Trek: The Motion Picture through Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. (if you don't have the time to watch the original series). But yeah, they have more charm and a LOT more depth to them.
6:03 Oh don't be sad according to you he probably survived and walked away from it
I'm always a bit let down when people want to get into Star Trek and they start with the 2009+ films. If you want to see star trek, start with the original movies and maybe prime that with a few key episodes from the original series.
The United States has had a vessel USS Enterprise virtually uninterrupted since 1775 different and more modern models all the way to the modern aircraft carrier CVN 65.. but I think it's currently being decommissioned, with the new one almost done CVN 80.
Awesome review Millie live long and prosper😊
Millie was pretty engrossed in this one. Goes to show, you don't need to talk a lot, to provide a great reaction.🖖
Overview of the series and movies. The 1960s series is the five year mission of Kirk commanding the Enterprise with a crew. It is set centuries from now when Earth has advanced. It lasted three seasons.
Aside from a short-lived cartoon series, ten years later there’s a movie depicting Kirk’s return to command the Enterprise (1979).
That movie was so successful that there were three more.
A new series set a century after the original series premiers in 1987 on tv and lasts for seven seasons. Meanwhile, the original crew are in two more movies.
There were spin off tv series set after the 1987 series.
Years later, JJ Abrams soft rebooted the original series with this film you just watched. Spock went back in time with the villain and changed history. So, this is around the time of the original series, but everything has changed.
This movie isn't bad, but I would love if you reacted to some earlier stuff also! I think some of the early movies are better than the original series for beginners, maybe do some of those next? Love your stuff! ❤
I recommend at least a any 6 of the original series, to get context to understand the movies.
Star Trek: First Contact
Star Trek: Enterprise
Star Trek: Discovery (Season 1-2)
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds
Star Trek: The Original Series
Star Trek: The Animated Series
Star Trek: The Motion Picture, The Wrath of Khan, The Search for Spock, The Voyage Home, The Final Frontier, The Undiscovered Country
Star Trek: The Next Generation
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (Season 1-3)
Star Trek: Generations
Star Trek: Voyager (Season 1-3)
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (Season 4-5)
Star Trek: First Contact
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (Season 6-7)
Star Trek: Insurrection
Star Trek: Voyager (Season 4-7)
Star Trek: Nemesis
Star Trek: Lower Decks
Star Trek: Prodigy
Star Trek: Picard
Star Trek: Discovery (Season 3-5)
Since you like a sword fight, maybe start with the episode The Squire of Gathos.
Starting here with "0" context...... Happy reading! Lol 🤦♂️🤣
5:39 clearly you don't have kids, there's a thing where parents want to be surprised to what sex they're having so they probably didn't know what they're having because they wanted it to be a surprise
You should see the first Star Trek: The Motion Picture 1979 !
This series is a trilogy and is known as the Kelvin timeline.
Yeah great idea to react to the original tv Star Trek TOS, then the movies from those same, then Next Generation tv show, then the movies from TNG. There are also Voyager n Deep Space 9 tv shows. A lot of star trek watching. They’re all inter connected
I really appreciate this movie for what it did for the Star Trek franchise. There's a timeline where Star Trek never came back as a viable media property after 2005 and I'm glad we don't live there. I still remember going to see it in the theater and have my collectible glass that you could get from Burger King. It was my first time being able to see new Star Trek after becoming a fan watching reruns of Voyager and TNG and reading some of the novels. And the rest of the trilogy is really good too even if people aren't as high on Beyond. I don't think they're necessarily the best introduction to Star Trek per se mostly because J. J. Abrams really wanted to be making Star Wars and just used Star Trek as his vehicle for doing that before he got to direct Force Awakens. If you want a modern interpretation of Star Trek's mission statement I think Strange New Worlds is the place to go.
Watch the classic vintage original series.
There is nothing like the original.
Then continue on to the Next Generation series.
Then continue on to watch the older movies with the original cast members.
You will gain many new viewers. Guaranteed.
Love it! It's a bit curious that Millie's fans would have her enter the franchise this way. It wouldn't have been my 1st choice (though I'm a big fan of the Abram's films) but it's not necessarily bad. She'll get a bit spoiled after the 2nd film, of course, but worse things have happened. Also the Abrams films sort of low key anticipate the viewers have a pre-existing familiarity with the source material, imo, but they still will work w/o that, I should think.
Unrelated but I really love Millie's glasses.
1. In the Star Trek canon it was Kirk "Did it with a Green B!$%h" Here' where that comes from.
2. There's a pinball machine at a bar near me and I have the top 5 scores on it. I didn't see this movie until after I killed the machine.
3. I'm an old school Star Trek TOS fan and it took me a bit to get all of the youngsters. I liked Scotty but couldn't get McCoy or Chekov. Spock, I didn't find relatable on any level with the TOS Spok until his change. Assuming that's the point.
4. The last time we see Captain Pike is in TSO "The menagerie/cage"
5. I highly recommend more Star Trek, especially "The Wrath of Khan"
Realize it was made in the early '80s.
I'm a lover of all things star trek and Millie maybe watch original series then the movies then next generation ds9 and voyager in that order x🎉
Yes, Everything Please lol 🖖
This is not the way you should start your Star Trek journey. Start with the original series. We can guide you through the best episodes.
Mill, u don’t know if u want to speak w/ur future self - would u like to speak to 13 yr old Millie?
Do all the films at least, or start of with the Original Series from the 60's :)
With this movie they made a restart in the so called Kelvin-timeline nefore reacting to the second movie in this timeline ypu shoul watch two episodes of the origal series and two movies - troble woth Tribbles - Space Sees and Star Trek II and III. In thos there already was a link to Star Zrek II bit with a different putcone to whhat happened in the otiginal timeline.
The serieses and movies are all worth to watch - only "Discovery" I don't like so much. Qith exception of the last season. I first hesittated ti watch it. But it was very good
"Lower Decks" you should watch last it is "Star Trek laughs about itself" To fully understand it you must know the other sereses and also sone of the .ovies.
Watch all 10 series' and the rest of the 13 movies but start with the 1966 series first.
I suggest you watch some of the original series, highlight episodes should you not want to see them all. Also the original movies. The 5th movie is a bit rough, but the 6th makes up for it.
after you get threw watching the 3 new star trek movies then you should start reviewing 1960's tv show and then start reviewing the 1990's og movies for us baby boomers and trekes then you should get a thousand more viewers signed Michael from Texas thank you ❤❤❤❤❤
1~3 movies are on a new time line. more or less?
Can you please watch and react to the tv series Warrior Nun? It’s an amazing female led diverse show that I think you would enjoy reacting to
Sorry you were misled. This was J.J. Abrams, Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman idea of Star Trek not Gene Roddenberry's. You need to start at the beginning with TOS the TNG. This was you will know who the characters really are. As it stands you still do not know what Star Trek is and what is it about.
It is important to remember that this incident created a second time line. It does not effect the events of the original time line. The JJ Abrams movies are following the new time line.
5:25 did you seriously just ask if he's going to be okay let's use that thing called a brain he's crashing his ship into the other ship so you tell me
Can you do the series Firefly, please?
You are beautiful 😍 Where is that accent from? Northern Europe? 😃 Yes, Star Trek is an amazing show, there's 40+ years of TV and 13 movies to watch! 🙂 Yes, his name is Spock. He's half human, half alien. The Vulcans were extremely aggressive in the distant past, and their emotions are very strong. They are physically stronger than humans as well. They have psychic abilities, which they use to control their emotions. 🙂
I would suggest, after you get done with the modern triology, go back and watch at least key episodes (find a list of "best episodes") from each season of The Original Series from the 60s and watch those, then watch the movies based on TOS, then watch key episodes from each season of The Next Generation, then the movies based on that....then go on to Voyager, Deep Space Nine, Enterprise.... 🙂
Well, it's up to you, there's a lot of choices 🙂
The Kelvin timeline is the worst of Star Trek
I did like this film, but the other two 🤮
This is a good movie to get a kindergarten level sense of the show, but please go to the series or the 1980s movies. They’re much more… just more of everything… more emotion, more drama, more character dynamics.
The new movies are the best place to start, for new fans. After that, TOS (Vintage), is a good choice. Production order is TOS, Animated 70s, 80s movies, TNG (TV and movies) , DS9, VOY, Picard, Discovery, Strange New Worlds, Prodigy (CGI), Lower Decks (Animated).
Why did you leave out Enterprise?
@@johnrob3215 LOL, I could be snarky and say I don't consider it cannon, but honestly, I just forgot about it. The Noonian/Klingon story arc was actually inspired. :D
90s Star Trek is the best!! The next generation, Deep space 9 & Voyager
That's the 80s not 90s
@@seanmc7128 Its mostly 90s... And first 2 seasons TNG isn't that good
@@Someinsanegenuis um no its not. It pretty much ended in the 90s. It's mostly 80s
@@seanmc7128 Deep space 9 & Voyager is most 80s??? Just stop it and go away troll
