Someone really ought to make a donation/crowdfunding operation to get steve some health insurance. We can't have him eating 30 year old pork for our amusement uninsured...
Vote in the next election and maybe it will happen!
We thought the same thing in our last election . . . and the one before that . . . and the one before that . . .
Lee Van Over nothing is free
No insurance will want to give him coverage. He will be deemed to risky.
Pete Giannopoulos death is free
"I don't have health insurance yet, so I'm not gonna mess with that" -Steve 😅😂
"Yet" - I'm still not sure if he even has it now...
But he still eats 100 year old mre stuff lol
He should by now with his RUclips revenue 😂
"Definitely rancid.." *takes bite*
Justin mi bhalls
Or two bites
He has some huge stones, that's for sure!
But it has a nice rye-sweet undertone.
This could literaly kill you!
*contienues to mix up milkpowder*
"I have no health insurance yet"
*Proceeds on eating 31 year old ration*
You sir, are a hero. And a man amongst MEN.
Nice Rhodie reference at the end ;)
Hes eaten older!
-doesn't have health insurance
-often eats food as old, twice as old, or even sometimes almost 3 times as old as him
Mr.Blobby and keeps opening old cheese spreads even tho they never go well
kiwi700 s the usa it's crazy expensive. it costs me and my wife and 1 child 600 per paycheck, company pays most, but still
Anon A Mouse Per check, and assume he gets paid bi-weekly, so $1200 a month. Fucking outrageous.
Mermaid Man you're 4 years too early to celebrate him
Anon A Mouse - Yeah it's ridiculous that people in the US are denied a basic/primary human need (healthcare) because they're scared making use of it is going to bankrupt them.
Steve's Wife : "I think I'm pregnant"
Steve : "Nice"
Kaiser Mora Nine months later: "Let's get that out on a tray"
XD
Kaiser Mora XD I can picture it so perfectly!
XD
RexRye A bit sour but also sweet.
Lol I love the way Steve just casually talks about severe food poisoning.
"I had the cold sweats that night, meh, I've had worse"
😂
This is where we think - _"Eat fresh "_
He's a machine 😂😂
I grew up near a military training ground in Germany. There were also troops from the Netherlands training there and they often didn't eat the biscuits because they were hard and didn't really taste like much. It was always a little treasure for us when we found some rations or parts of it. Not only because we were very poor but also because it was something special.
"I'd love to come to thanksgiving but I've got different plans"
*films opening a 31 year old dutch ration*
And there isn't even turkey on it.
Now that I think of it, opening (or publishing a pre-recorded video of said act) a Turkish ration on Thanksgiving would be punomenal.
I love his optimism, even when he knows it is going to be awful he is super optimistic.
Yea like Steve Irwin
Pepperdog181@gmail.com
Lol you are correct!!! "Looks like botulism!! Ill try a little !" 😂😂😂😂😂
When he dropped the spoon while drinking the broth I thought he died lol

Someone walks in and sees Steve's body, "Well I better upload this video, it's what he would've wanted."
firefoxmoz someone walks in and sees his body “right. Lets put this on a tray”
Nick Ward NICK BROTHER I TRULY THINK THAT IS THE FUNNIEST COMMENT IVE EVER READ ON RUclips!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IN MY 16 YEARS ON THIS PLANET!!!!!!!!!

Could you imagine going back in time and telling a Dutch biscuit manufacturer "Hey, you see that pack of biscuits you're packing up for an army ration? Yeah, there's going to be a guy 31 years from now who's going to open that ration, comment on it, eat it, film it, send it around the world through a complicated series of cables/wires, and thousands and thousands of people are going to watch him do it.". Yep.
Thanks Steve!
this is a great perspective
Millions...."Millions and millions of people".
He'd respond nice
like the boss of Sir Tim Berners-Lee said after his idea of developing apranet to internet = " good idea....probably wont work,no one will be interested" :D
in 1979 ethernet was already available and in 1985 pretty much all the protocoles of "cables and wires" were invented. Some of you make it sound like there was no internet before youtube.
In hospital doc asked " what have you had for lunch?" Steve:" coffee... from 1985"
Nut fonny
VORY FENNY
Coffee would be fine for ages. As long as it's not moldy. The food is the issue
We just gonna ignore the Pacman on the box there? Yeah? ok...
ProtoMario Of all the places I've seen you I did not expect you here. Ha!
ProtoMario wtf you watch steve's mre vids too proto?
ProtoMario Protooooooooo didn't know u watched this either haha
damn proto- where those dollar store bacon baskets at?
ProtoMario Didn't know you watched Steve
That's a trip down memory lane.
I was a 10 year old boy when that MRE was made. Most of the contents are products that were available to anyone in the supermarkets, including the stuff in the plain packaging, like the teabag.
The main meal may look like it's specifically made for the army, but slipped in a paper sleeve with nice printing, it was sold in supermarkets too. I know because I ate quite a few when both parents were at work and I was old enough to heat them au bain marie myself.
The biscuits with that heavy foil packaging are probably the only army specific product in this MRE.
I believe those are liga biscuits
@@joempoem478 Is that like ligma?
The biscuits are definitely old school liga biscuits and indeed all the components were time period correct Dutch supermarket foods. I know the canned main course has been discontinued, as I tried getting some a few years ago. A trip down memory lane
@@Boss_Scaggz what is ligma?
@@Kevin-db3io ligma balls
"Yeah they're definitely rancid *immediately grabs one and takes a bite*" Nice.
If there was any reason to make smell a vision for the internet, itd be for this channel
and 2girls1cup
Dear god no, both of you.
"These biscuits smell rancid." >takes a bite<
"Yes, they ARE rancid."
>continues eating
de gustibus et coloribus non est disputandum
Steve is such a chill guy. I love the fact that he nearly always finds something positive to say about any ration he tries even if they are obviously awful.
Very nostalgic seeing all those brands with the old logo's. I'm Belgian but we had pretty much all those brands here as well.
Things like the quicksoup and unox paté really took me back to my childhood.
DimerNL same
DimerNL those biscuits look like Liga cookies I grew up on
Rafael Sherman They seemed a tad bit thinner though, but yeah looked like liga :)
The Jamin chocolate wrapper and the Liga biscuits, amazing!
An almost 22 minute video and not a single ad (don't know why you don't have ANY, one or two would be acceptable) and makes super quality videos. Amazing youtuber by any standards
Yeah, it would help him get some insurance.
08:32 Oh my god, i nearly pissed myself laughing.
"Old dry milk that's off usually makes me puke, i usually get it out in time, but hey I've had worse - NICE.
Steve - you're killing me man.
Lucifers matches? That's pretty metal.
👀🌚👀
Lucifer is what we call matches up here
The word Lucifer is taken from the Latin Vulgate, which translates הֵילֵל as lucifer, meaning "the morning star, the planet Venus", or, as an adjective, "light-bringing".
LUCIFER!
You'd be correct Juan
From which we gather that Dutch soldiers in the field spend most of their time sitting around drinking coffee, soup, eating biscuits, sweets and chocolate and smoking... where do I sign up?
Someone as dedicated to their particular hobby as you doesn't have health insurance!! You are truly a warrior Steve.
Holy crap, 3 videos and once, totaling over an hour? It's like Christmas.
Dang the fuzzy walrus watches steve, nice.
I love your nerf content!!
WalcomS7 - always on the day I'm trying to go to bed early
WalcomS7 Had to check my calendar and nope i guess christmas came early this year!
Nice!
Jae Kyung Yoon Alright!
Fun to see a ration from my country reviewed here. You, sir, are a brave man, every bit as brave as the soldiers that were supposed to eat it, albeit for other reasons hahah!
Its not actually tissue paper, but just a package of disposable paper handkerchiefs, its a well known regular brand thats normally available in civilian stores here in the netherlands up to this very day, they also make toilet paper and kitchen towels. I probably have one of those exact packages lying around the house.
LOL that cheese is supposed to be semi-liquid and NOT solid....,its supposed to be spread on sandwiches or crackers.its a pretty common bread topping over here, tho not when it has been 'matured' and dried for 30 years LOL .
Funny enough, many things, like the jam and liver paté containers, you could, and can still buy at regular supermarkets. Its just commercially available stuff. You get the same containers with your meals in hospital or sometimes in lunchrooms. (the 'hero' on the jam tins is just the brand, although it is a funny choice to give to soldiers, who ofc are heroes!)
Even the instant soup is from a brand that still exists. looks like they just ripped off the cardboard outer box that they come in in the supermarket and stuffed the satchels in that pack.
"jamin" was also a commercial retail brand of chocolate. Its a bar you could have picked up at their stores in 1985, my granny used to give me these exact ones (if the 'better ones' from our town's pride 'verkade factory ' were not available- yup, chocolate chauvinism! haha..)
the dextrose tablets and the fruitmix same thing, any retailer that had a candy selection, even a gas station, carried those.
Almost looks as if someone slapped together an aid package from their kitchen cupboard, haha.
Weird tho that they slapped those pate tins in there, as everything in the selection would probably have had exp dates in excess of 5 or 10 years, but those pate things last for maybe a year. Guess just throwing the whole box away because it had some relatively perishable things in it was ok, anything for not having to eat russian rations, i guess...
Actually, the dinner tins and the biscuits were sometimes for sale commercially too. i guess around the end of the 80's when the cold war fizzled and the armies got downsized, much of this stuff was dumped through cheap outlet stores. When i had just moved out on my own, i sometimes had these army dinner tins. Black beans and pork. meat, peas and ptatoes, just what the boys would get from mommy at home too.. they were a bit bland and boring, everything being mixed together, but nourishing and filling. And easy ofc, just need to heat it and you're go. I sometimes took them on camping trips. Tasted much better in the crisp forest air when hungry of a days hiking.
The biscuits were quite edible, i had a few boxes of those too at some point. There is actualy a commercial brand that makes pretty similar ones, its called "Liga" they come in many different kinds and flavors... these biscuits would be like their 'au naturel' ones. Its biscuit with some coarse grainy rye like bits in it. Several types of dutch biscuit-like cookies have that same texture.
"Douwe egberts" is also a regular commercial luxury coffee brand from the netherlands, although i never saw this freeze dried version in any store. I guess they had a special production line for the army coffee. You actually pronounce the "ou' as in 'loud' and the "e" more flat , like in appartment. Teabags, kanis&gunnink, another retail brand, just repackaged in military foil...
Typically dutch, to save money, half the package is filled with standard, off the shelf stuff that you can just buy wholesale or from supermarkets... but of course we will spare no expense to give you a nice, morale and patriotism inspiring custom match box with the dutch royal logo! a cheap standard pack of matches that you can pick up at any store would be unthinkable, hahah! Its important to have the priorities straight of course.
the 1978 date on the lemonade powder (is not its fabrication or expiry date tho. It says "conforms to [ some serial number] 1978 B" so its probably the date that a certain standard was instated to which lemonade powder for the army had to adhere or something.
The package says "lemonade powder, lemon flavour.30 grams, dissolve contents in 1/2 drinking cup +/- 250 cc of cold water"
The bottom small print lists the manufacturer and the town they were based (i guess so soldiers would know where to get more when they were back home and wanted to trigger their PTSD by tasting stuff they had had during combat, lol)
Just some background info incase it might interest you, as a thank-you for making this brave and informative video (never knew the army actually used so many off the shelf commercial products, i would have expected all kinds of olive drab white or khaki tins and packages with boring standardized print, but maybe a little color and familiarity from home would be just what morale needed.)
After a day in the field, this ration must've been a treat when it was new.
Hearing you say that the 80's are considered vintage makes me feel soooo old!!😰😰😰
Vintage for food not for people. You're still good.
Am I the only one who would watch an hour long compilation of just sped up can opening? Something about it is oddly satisfying
”Old dry milk smell...deluxe"
Hilarious description.
Where where???!!!
Mostly all of this stuff was also for sale in the supermarket. We bought the same stuff when going to a rock or metal festival :) Seeing the old packiging brings backs back memories.. most of it is still for sale though :)
i know a little poison every once and awhile is good for you... but damn dude, lol. I pray for your health sometimes
I've watched like 30+ of your vids and the part when you place it on a tray never gets old. "Nice!"
I always do interpretive dances when Steve's synth music comes on
I actually ate that stuff during my time in the dutch military!
Let's get this out onto a tray...

Its so nice to see that 1.4k people really, genuinely love and care for Steve. He does nothing other than comment on a nice hiss, eat rancid food and eat it again to make sure it is rancid. This is so wholesome ❤️. Take care of yourselves Steve, lots of people love you man.
If the cheese was real cheese and not processed cheese it could probably been edible still. Cheese doesn’t actually go bad it just loses moisture even blue cheese can be eaten decades later. I’ve tried 80 year old cheese from my family’s dairy farm that my great great aunt made in 1910. I tried it when I was 15 in 1990. She had made 550 pounds of it and when I tried it they had been eating it with every dinner meal since the fall of 1910. My great uncle who was actually a cousin told me when it was first made it was a soft cheese and when I tried it it was harder than Parmesan reggiano that was aged for 5 years. It had a really strong blue cheese flavour but was incredibly good.
whoa nice
Jamin chocolate! I live in Oosterhout where it's made! Awesome. We make some other heavenly sweets, like long cinnamon candy sticks.
my reaction when seeing this video: nice
Jet Addict lets get this video out on a tray. nice.
hey steve if you could sneak in "you're pretty good" and "kept you waiting, huh?" into a review that would be pretty neat
SuperAWaC but "you're pretty good" is ocelot's thing
Shifters Unite spamming active decoys in 5 tho
SuperAWaC i guess you could say it would be pretty
Nice!
SuperAWaC putting em in the bed of the trucks and driving around blaring maneater.
I lost my shit..."this is what eternity looks like" Steve, you are a genius
Lol, this MRE is 2 days older then me, and still looks beter :D
For some reason, the part that I enjoy the most during these reviews is when Steve says "Nice!"
You should do a worst of video. The mre experiences that gave you nightmares afterwards.
RequiemJr that would be awesome
Oh man, I've been binge watching Steve's videos for a little bit now and this has got to be the best one so far in terms of just being plain funny rather than educational or whatever. I literally laughed out loud a few times, just gold. Loved it.

Sick in the hospital with pneumonia been binge watching these vids
I must say that this is my favorite channel on RUclips. I don't know what it is about these videos but it draws me in and makes me come back for more. Keep the videos coming!!
2018: jam looks fine, takes it under a microscope to find weird floating particles and a pinhole in the can
2016: jam has separated and has a mysterious bubble, eats some immediately
Him opening the can is oddly satisfying
Steve "It makes me wheeze" *smell again*
I've watched almost all your vids over my break and they are all so satisfying to watch. great work man!
That DANDY gum is what i remember from when i was a small boy :o)
Made only 20 km from here 31 years ago,,, nice.
Today it is Stimorol gum.
I don't know why I find this channel so interesting. it's awesome!
You made my day with these uploads, Steve!
I absolutely love these videos. The contents are fascinating but the best thing is how charming you are. Completely endearing!
love the little pacman looking dude on the front 😄
"If I drink that it will definitely make you sick and I don't have health insurance... still."
Steve's like the food tasting version of 'jackass'. Love your work bud.
Just found this today while wondering around youtube, I subscribed. Alright, let's get this out onto a tray, Nice!
Lovely memories, I got exactly one like this one from my uncle in the army, when I was a kid. Wow.
Being from the netherlands, and not ever seeing such a vintage ration, this vid made my day brother. Thanks for the upload and keep up the good work.
Lets get this out onto a tray, Nice..
"rancid gramcrackers" and then you can FEEL him talking himself into eating them! nice
yooo i love this channel. theres just so much info that is just so interesting and some of this stuff steve is telling us might save our lives one day
Seeing those fonts on those packaging really brings back childhood memories from those days, thanks for that :)
god damn dude, you got an iron stomach. You're in it for the long hall!
You do this without health insurance, you madman
This is so nice😀I used to be a Dutch nurse 25 years ago and we served that same food to patients I don’t work anymore as a nurse, now but I rembember that very well
Great video as always. I must say you are one of the bravest men I have ever seen.
Hey Steve, thanks for the uploads!
Steve1989 MREinfo Nice!
Just found your youtube channel
"nice"
Keep doing more please!
Yes i remember those, we got handed out during excersises, made us all feel happy for a short time in the winter. The biscuits were actually quite good and poular, filled up good.
Great stuff Steve. My dad ate the early rations when serving in Vietnam. Very cool to see what the soldiers had to eat.
I just recently subscribed .. and you uploaded 3 videos in one day. I am amazed
Jesus, your power caused Steve to upload
hey Jesus how's it going?
Jesus Hey man can you not send me to hell lol
Say hi to Michael Jackson for me.
Don't be fooled, guys. This is Steve's main account. He's self advertising.
Did you upgrade your camera? Cool to finally be able to see all the horrible food in full HD!
Drafted into the Dutch army in january 1985 (Royal Dutch Engineers) this brings back memories! And the funny thing was watching your video's, I was wondering, or trying to remember, what our mre's looked like back in my time :-)
In the outro music, I love that little portamento pitch slide in the music!🎹🎧💫😵👌👍
It's like bubble, lets pop it.. lol... love your videos.
Love your videos man! NICE!
"OK, lets get this out onto a tray. Hmm. NICE." Classic. Love these videos. Keep em coming.
Steve, thank you. I've watched so many of your videos lately and you have solved a mystery for me. I had a bulk can of Walmart milk chocolate, and I had it for several years, opened. Last year, I brewed a cup and got violently ill. Now I know the culprit, rancid milk powder. Thanks, brother!
When He says it's bad, it for sure is!
Thanks again Steve! You're awesome ^_^
Everythingisdull I wonder if Steve keeps epicac around…
This is the most insane food channel I’ve ever seen. How does he not get sick or worse is beyond me. Super interesting, I’m binging hard!
Steves videos of MREs in the 1980-2010 range are great because he digs in with little hesitation
got to love the awesome lucifer matches

God, you've always been a risktasker haven't you?
Nice
That moment of anticipation when Steve says it's no good but you KNOW he's going to eat it anyways...
i saw you uploaded these videos before i had to go to work....it was the longest day ever waiting to come home and watch these
I watch this stuff when I'm going to bed
Dude, nobody's gonna sell you health insurance after learning you eat food as old as you are just for fun.
If that wasn't listed as a pre-existing condition, it is now.
Why do I watch these videos 😂😂
Thank you for the upload.
Your content is addictive, you have some balls man👍👍
Cold sweats and vomiting?
You are a trooper sir. A genuine tester.
