  • EQ training tips- Soft palate neutral exercise.
The soft palate controls air flow to and from the nose and mouth.
The openings to the eustachian tubes sit above the soft palate towards the nasal cavity.
To equalise the pressure in the middle ear we must push air into the eustachian tubes.
If the soft palate is closed, this means air can’t move freely between the oral and nasal cavity. If this happens you won’t be able to equalise, so no divey!
Practicing keeping the soft palate neutral on dry land will help with equalisation problems, just like “nothing is happening when I EQ”

The most common problem is the soft palate is closed, but if you don’t know how it feels, then how can you fix it under water?
Dry training is fundamental for learning to Frensel equalise, especially if it never worked “naturally”.
Most people struggle with EQ in the beginning, its ok, be patient, it only gets better.

This has been the most difficult part of freediving... I still can't do it.

@@AboveBelowFreedivingPilates Thank you for the link. But I was referring to this issue specifically with soft palate neutral.
Is there another exercise for learning this? I just can't seem to keep my soft palate in neutral.
