While people are patting themselves on the back over an officer not arriving and trying to execute innocent children, 5 innocent children were placed at gun point while acting lawfully. I'm sure the cops did what he was trained to do... but the problem is that the training is flawed. From the stand point of everyone watching.. including the kids with the assumed gun, they have no freaking idea why the cop is there pointing a gun at them. Maybe going there with your gun pointed up is the wrong way to handle this.
      Maybe also going there alone is the wrong way to handle this.
      This is a good opportunity to find a better way to handle this situation.. instead of saying the cop did nothing wrong.... One simple example would be.. maybe instead of telling the people it has nothing to do with them, notify them the danger they may be in.. or them why he's there....
      Or better yet, watch them at a distance for a bit and wait for back up before confronting them in a way that doesn't endanger himself or the suspects.

I don't think that's a big ask. I don't think it's unreasonable for parents to ask their police force to be better, to do better and to consider 911 calls of this nature within the context of the circumstances encountered at the scene. It is a failure of our system if children are met w/ the threat of death due to legitimized and often weaponized prejudice directed at them. That is systemic racism and why #BLM exists.

    • @jonathonvanover8278
      @jonathonvanover8278 4 года назад +8

      Maybe take a couple of minutes and listen to the 1st 911 call. There are more videos than this one and the very 1st call is where those details were given.
      The store owner said there were boys in his store and they were stealing and had a gun. Not a single word about race was even mentioned by the caller. Sorry but in a public store, with a gun that looked very real...He also said they were fighting in the parking lot and waving the gun around.
      They knew why that officer was there. The store owner made a police report and I don't think he would risk his business over filing a false police report. The boys threw the gun into the bushes and ran off. They were able to take the officer right to where they ditched it.
      I get what you're saying, Paul but if you ever get a chance to do a ride along, you will see a different view. Real-time doesn't allow to stop, freeze frame, go back, etc. and we already knew the boys were unharmed. The officer didn't know what to expect.
      If a caller reports what this man did, you have to be prepared. IF that was a real gun, it takes a split second to get shot. I think tensions are elevated everywhere and he had no idea what to expect. The reason for not telling the crowd what was going on immediately is because the last thing he needed was mass panic. Unfortunately, there aren't enough officers to send 2 on a call. That is why there are audio and video recordings.
      Dispatchers are trained to relay calls exactly as they are received. When the officer pulled up to the scene, he had no way to know if there was a gun or not, no way to know if it was a toy or not, crowds start to gather...it was an unfortunate situation. I really urge you to listen to that 911 call and what the store owner says.
      This has absolutely nothing to do with race, period. If my son had been in a store and he had a gun and was stealing, I'd beat his ass. If his buddies participated, I'd beat their asses too. I heard what the gentleman said about white boys with hunting rifles - I mean really, my son's best friend is black and they have been together since preschool and I have taken them both hunting before. We left the guns in the truck when we went into the store thou because they don't allow firearms in most public places now.
      On the other hand, boys will be boys and that is going to be the way it is until the end of time. They are kids but need to realize they do not walk into a store with a real-looking gun, period. That sends a message and I don't care if the skin is purple with green polka dots. Just don't do it.

      Wish it were that simple. And, Rayshard Brooks was not drunk driving he was parked doing the right thing to sober up before driving. Sorry to say, you or your son could be gunned down doing the right thing. It’s not about parenting. This is a deeper systematic problem. No mention of a crime but the individuals in question were teenagers. When are teenagers allowed to have a handgun? That in itself was illegal aka a crime.
      There are people calling for the defunding of police in favor of a more community based policing. The store clerk was doing his job by reporting some suspicious. When you see some thing you say something. Ignoring it won’t work. It hasn’t for racism 🤷🏾‍♂️

      @@DLCShark You are correct, they are teenagers, but are teenagers allowed to have BB guns? If not then they should not be allowed to sell them to the teenagers. If there was a suspicion that it was a gun then drawing a gun on children forces them to take into account all of the violence being perpetuated against Black people and can lead to unnecessary consequences. No one knew there ages until after the fact which is why unless the gun (or bb gun) is this situation was being used in a crime you treat the situation as an investigation with an emphasis on humanizing the individuals rather than treating them as criminals. Innocent until proven guilty.

    • @DLCShark
      @DLCShark 4 года назад

      Patrick Crawford Are teens allowed to posses BB guns yes and no. I don’t know the specific law to every area. Most retailers require and adult to purchase these kind of items. However someone failed to educate these teenagers that having a BB gun that looks like a real gun can get you into real trouble. BB guns unlike air soft guns(Orange tips)don’t have anything to make it distinguishable from a real gun. The report came in that a gun was seen. Clerks aren’t experts on firearms they see anything that looks like a gun they have the right to be suspicious for their safety and the safety of those in their business. You are right innocent until proven guilty and that’s what they were they were innocent. The office approached them with caution. Gathered the facts(and put away his weapon in the process no longer making him a threat once he figured out the teens posed no threat) and concluded his investigation.
      If you see a shadowy figure by your car in the parking lot at night I’m sure you will proceed with caution and not be happy go lucky with the fellow.
      I hate that our country is in turmoil but blacks particularly men have been on the wrong side of the law since we were brought here. Everyone has been taught to be prejudice vs. blacks even other blacks. We can continue to point the finger at white people or the system but I was always taught if you point a finger at someone you have several of your own fingers point back at you.

That’s part of their protocol. Maybe it was for aimed at them for too long maybe it wasn’t. There is no cookie cutter way to handle all situations. It’s flawed because humans are flawed. You cannot walk around with an object that looks like a firearm if you are not legally allowed to do the same with a real one. It is a very normal law nationwide. The officer could have made the young man carrying the gun into a statistic by arresting him, but he chose not to. If that is not a community-oriented approach to policing than I don't know what is. To be fair, we do not know how legitimate the "they're trying to rob and stuff" complaint on the phone was. The possession of the firearm is what I am most concerned with, and likely what the police were most concerned with as well.

      Maybe but we still need to fix the system if 5 innocent teens can be held at gun point by honest police because the prejudice of a racist store owner was legitimized, weaponized and directed at innocent children. While you're patting your back that this officer didn't arrive and execute 5 innocent children, 5 innocent children were still held at gun point while shopping and playing around in their neighborhood. Society failed those children and their parents have every right to demand improvements in their local policing so their children are not met with guns when engaging w/ officers.

    They were walking around with the bb gun acting like they were strapped and tough about it intimidating the store owner. Then, when police pull up with a real gun, they are scared of what was gonna happen, and had ditched the bb gun Losing the same energy they had when no authority was present. There is absolutely too much going on right now for kids , young black males to be specific , to be carrying themselves like this in such a fragile state of police/community relations. And then to end up looking fearful and victimized on the news , no One should be buying this call for the police to be reprimanded for he did an outstanding job in communication and deescalating this and not being another mainstream shooting. In fact , other police depts need to be taking notes, to how police should be approaching scenarios. And also in fact, the children's parents need to take a deep look at how their children are acting, seeming and doing , and put a solid understanding in their minds that small and unwise decisions like so, can lead to very sad an unfortunate endings as we are seeing time and time again. Common sense and good decisions go a long way. #ripgeorgefloyd. Let's start teaching our youth there are consequences for all bad choices and need to be focus on education, good law abiding hobbies to keep young men out of trouble , and spending more time with our youth so they don't end up in these situations with bad influences around them because we arent

      18 in Georgia. It is hard, i lived in Clayton County for years ( Riverdale) and my shop is in Jonesboro. There are so many shootings and robberies that no one should care what young people are doing with a gun. It is as normal to see as pants hanging down showing ass or seeing $5000 rims on a $300 car. I was wrong, You are right..... And as far as the King James 1611 goes.
      Well you believe as you wish. King James did not write the King James Bible
      The 40 men who compiled that Book of books fasted and prayed for years before attempting such an undertaking. At the time, no Bible was in the Common language in mass circulation.only rich people could read God's words.
      It is Called the King James Bible because they dedicated the book to him for granting permission to do it...even though he knew that it would put him at war with the Catholics. To the point the Catholics ordered the bombing of the building the translators were working in and no Catholic is allowed to read it.
      It makes the first person saved by receiving Jesus with faith in Him alone, an Etheopian Eunich...a black man. The Catholics do not like this....but it is true just the same Acts 8.
      If we treated each other with respect and love none of this would be happening. I am not your enemy. I am your next door neighbor...the one who stops to help when you are broke down on the roadside. The one who holds the door for you mom and sister...and you. The one who says "yes ma'am and "no ma'am" , yes sir and no sir no matter who you are, because the respect you give is the respect you receive.
      I gave my oath to protect and defend the constitution in 1983. If i saw you surrounded by a hundred trying to do you evil. It would be 100 against 2. They would need to go get help.
