My GH5 switches into Data-Mode and blacks out the screen entirely as soon as i connect the Ronin s + an external monitor (RoninS via usb-c & Ext monitor via HDMI).. I then can see the HDMI output but no settings at all. I also cannot start/stop recording or manage anything.. any tips for that?
Sorry, I'm not 100% sure what's happening here. Try without the monitor connected and see if you can control the camera without it? You will need to approve PC-Tether (not Storage) connection; if it doesn't pop up there could be a cable or other connection issue. Sure. That feature was only added in the latest firmware update, so if you download the DJI Assistant app to your Mac or PC, then connect the Ronin-S to your computer, you'll be able to update it. You should then be able to focus on request with a half-push on the record button.
Hi Iain Thanks for the prompt reply I'm here in Adelaide SA and I received my Ronin-S last Sunday the firmware was V01.01.00.00 so I upgraded to V01.03.02 It's now working Ok only in CREATIVE VIDEO MODE It doesn't work in my C1,C2,C3 Custom modes and I did add AF-ON in the menu and saved C!1 ????
The main thing, I think, is that you have to be set to MF for it to work. It's working fine on all the modes I've tried here, VFR and otherwise. I'm using the 15mm f/1.7, but your lens is on the official list, too. Maybe check that all the AF/MF switches are set to MF? Sorry I can't give definite advice.

Huh, that's weird. I guess maybe try changing AF/ MF, and see if it makes a difference? Is there a focus control on the lens maybe? I think there may be a few subtle focus controls on the GH5 which affect this but I'm not sure. Sorry!

Ian you may be the first person who can help me! I have this same set up with the sigma art 18-35mm lens. I can pull focos while recording in 24fps but when I shoot in 60fps (which is 99% of the time) the focus wheel will not pull focus WHILE RECORDING. in 60fps, the wheel pulls focus while sitting there, but as soon as I hit record, the wheel basically just “plays dead”. What am I doing wrong?!?! I can’t find an answer anywhere
Eek. Sorry, but I'm not sure! I don't have that lens, but I had a reversed problem recently, using native lenses, where the Ronin-S could autofocus on request (back button focus) but the camera wouldn't, and only when shooting in 4K50. That problem seems isolated to a pre-saved C1 setting though, and I'm still not sure what happened there. One clue could be that the high speed modes work slightly differently on the GH5, so maybe switching to HFR mode (where autofocus doesn't work at all, and there's no audio) might change how the manual focus works too? Another approach might be to change settings around a bit, because possibly something was messed up on your GH5. Sorry I don't have more useful advice.

@@joshmccormack5193 Only an octopus can pull focus and operate a heavy ass gimbal at the same time. Plus, it's fly by wire so it's impossible to pull accurately on the Ronin-S which is why I didn't buy the FF. Either set a large t-stop, keep a steady focus distance, use a super wide lens or get a remote follow focus and monitor solution w/ a 1st AC. Otherwise, just go old school and get a dolly and some track and a whole crew. Don't be afraid of high t-stops. Orson Wells loved 'em.
I can't get the focus module's light to show green. It is blinking single red. Under what circumstances will the light blink green? I'm using GH5 with native 25mm f1.4. And I've plugged the MCC-C cable correctly. Any help please?
The lens shouldn't matter. If the firmware for the Ronin-S is up-to-date, then when you plug the cable into your GH5 and turn it on, it'll pop up a prompt, and you choose PC (tether). Then focusing should work. Maybe grab the latest version of the DJI Pro Assistant to check? Yeah, I'm mostly using that huge battery because I already have it (and it's good if you want to charge other accessories like a screen too). If I didn't have one I'd go for a USB solution - there are a few I think. They all use a dummy battery cable though.
