It's been several years, maybe decades because I've been playing on-line only, that I needed to address his situation. He was the 'stinky gamer'. Checked all the boxes of the stereotype. We were upfront about it and if we played at his home we'd ask him to shower before playing. Or if he came over to another player's home we would have deodorant. He didn't take offense. We made it a routine before game. We were friends, still are.

In that situation honesty is the best way. It probably helped him outside the game too!
