In Spidey's defense, Ruby attacked first (w/ an Omnislash, no less). For all we know, he could've just been planning to disarm her of the scythe peacefully, but then it got violent.
Ruby is actually nothing without her scythe, she sucks at hand to hand combat
She hand made Cresent Rose, and has fought with it for a long time...then some dude comes over and tries to take it away from her. In Spider Man's defense, the two are from different places, so seeing someone wandering around with a weapon looks suspicious. He most likely has no clue what Huntsman and Huntresses are. In Ruby's defense, she's allowed to have her weapon because she's training in Beacon to become a Hunteress(well, she WAS). She might've saw him as a threat.

@@crow464 To be even more fair to Spidey, Huntsmen usually keep their weapons sheathed unless they are on a fight. Rubes usually would have CR on her back, in a very compacted form, and would only take it out in a fight, so he wouldn't have missed the fight if Rubes had it in the open. But then, we wouldn't have the fight, so...

Since someone already talked about Spider-Man’s spider sense, reflex’s, and how good it is, I’ll touch on Spider-Man in other areas. Spider-Man physical strength is often times overlooked when it comes to his character which is understandable because all his other abilities are really good. It has been stated by Doctor Octopus (a Spider-Man villain) that if Spider-Man really wanted to he could hospitalize him or the other sinister six with one punch and could possibly even kill them if he wanted to, both Doctor Octopus and Peter himself mention how Spidey has to constantly hold back his punch’s to avoid serious injuring or even killing criminals. If Peter wanted to he could break through Ruby’s Aura easily but since this is Peter he would hold back the first punch realize Ruby has an Aura and adjust his next punch accordingly to only break through Ruby’s aura. Peter is also really smart, creating multiple versions of web fluid just in his time of high school and has even commented on complex inventions of Marvels smartest characters, like Mr. Fantastic, and Tony Stark. If this is Spider-Man during his time in college then he also has years of experience being Spider-Man, like having won in 1 vs 6 situations (the sinister six), going against a master hunter (Kraven), and been in end of the world scenarios (granted a lot of these have been with the avengers). Ruby has a fair bit of experience and smarts (at least when it comes to group fight) but this pales in comparison when it comes to Spider-Man and has years of experience. In my opinion this fight was greatly one sided (especially considering how Spider-Man is considered one of the best street level superheroes) and think a better opponent could be found for Ruby or Spider-Man but hey I’m just a guy making a RUclips comment.

Scratch speed, Ruby easily outpaces Lightning timers without her semblance (still pissed about that, god RWBY has awful writing) and her semblance at a narrative perspective makes her faster than lightning timers can perceive.

to be honest, even if this was a battle with analysis of the characters' capabilities, Spiderman would win.
In terms of attacking from afar, Ruby may be better at ranged offense, but Spiderman has his webs which he can shoot from afar, so depending on how Spiderman uses his webs, Ruby's superior ranged offense won't matter as long as Spiderman catches her in a tight spot. The only advantage Ruby has for her regarding her superior ranged offense is shooting down Spiderman, and even then, it's likely for Spiderman to dodge a lot of her shots, thanks to his good acrobatics.
As for melee combat, Spiderman is faster and his spider traits boost his reflexes (think of Tyrian from RWBY, who's also based off an arachnid, though he's a scorpion, not a spider). Unless Ruby can use her Semblance or Crescent Rose's transformations to catch Spiderman off guard somehow, she's too slow to hit him. And in terms of hand-to-hand, that's not even a question. It is specified and shown in RWBY that Ruby is not good at hand-to-hand combat, and without Aura, she isn't that physically strong either. Spiderman would mop the floor with her in seconds if it was a hand-to-hand fight.
Overall, unless Ruby catches Spiderman offguard with her weapon and abilities, she has no chance. And if she gets disarmed or loses her Aura, she's pretty much done for.

I agree with the results. Ruby can be a deceptive fighter, quick to counter attack, and has the advantage of having a ranged weapon but 1. she doesn't have much experience successfully dealing one on one with opponents who can predict and out match her and 2. Spider man has consistently beaten opponents who have similar and stronger abilities than Ruby.
I give it to Spidey.

This match wasn't even, but it was correct. Spider has a way greater strength, and reaction time advantage, and he has way more experience than the crimson reaper. What really even these two out is that neither has a want to kill, but I really don't know about spider man having a speed advantage against a speedster. Her pedal burst could've been a useful ability if she was using it to avoid attacks, something her semblance allows her to do, even knowing spidey's spider sense is way faster, he can be overwhelmed if the opponent played it smart and strikes fast or in ruby's case move around him as shown in v7. also Ruby's weapon was not created for this sort of combat, a giant metal scythe is still no matter how strong you are, heavy. It also doesn't help that spider man could have easily disarmed her with his web slingers, in other words due to spider mans experience, strength, intelligence, and reflex, He came out on top. Ruby is just not experienced enough, sure if you include different types of dust then that would be a little bit more challenging, but in this case. With her lacking in hand to hand, and with her being out of her element the odds were not in her favor, also for gods sake spider man you complain about the scythe but don't disarm her, ik this was a 1 minute melee, but she'll be back up in about 5 to 10 minutes still wielding a weapon in a city where she didn't know walking around armed was dangerous.

Actually Spidey has faced plenty of speedsters himself and has shown microsecond reaction speeds which is quad digit Mach speeds while ruby hasn’t really shown anything above double digit Mach speeds so Spidey would actually dodge everything Ruby could throw at him rather easily especially thanks to spider sense pretty much giving him omnipresent detection.
Great fight and the ending made me laugh.

I mean I have seen a lot of RWBY wank for VS stuff. like I have seen RWBY fans claim that Ruby could solo everyone in blazblue cross tag. even though RWBY's characters would get stomped by just about everyone there, if it was not for the world everyone was trapped in scaling everyone to at least Blazblue's mid tier.
yeah but you can't scale anyone in rwby to anyone in BBTAG cause the only story thats cannon in that one is the Blazblue arc and ruby beat NOONE. Even in her own story her victories always require a partner or she ran away. The final boss wasn't even that big of a threat. it was basically Metal Sonic 2.0 that was nerfed so Ruby and Weiss could defeat it. You can't scale Ruby to anyone in BBTAG cause its not cannon and she still requires help to win her fights. She still gets stomped by everyone in that game.
Oh yeah I did not mean normal ruby would scale from her version of BBTAG since that game is not cannon to any of the verses that take part in the events. It is even Inconsistent on blazblue's side as well. But yeah in the blazblue route they only really manged to do anything by sneak attacking, and even then they don't really do anything to the other casts.

you have to consider that one comes from a world where "having a bad day and feeling like shit" can kill everyone you've ever known, and that ruby is friggin' sixteen and going toe to toe against veteran level fighters fairly often and winning due to improvised strategies.
Spidey still probably wins because spider sense is OP as fuck. "Hey guys, let's put up a character who's main thing is a long rifle and a melee weapon up against spider man, who's entire schtick is hard-countering those exact things! It'll be a total surprise when he wins!"
Well, judged by the battle, she was fighting Marvel Vs Capcom Spider-Man based on their attacks and fighting style, which I have to say that the MVC Spider-Man is more adept at fighting than the one in canon in terms of mobility, web types, attacks, and overall fighting prowess, this is one of the most powerful versions of any kind of Spider-Man, they most likely chose this one due to as you said "going toe to toe against veteran level fighters". I'm not saying this is bias but this was the only way to make this fight have a bit of the odds in Spider-Man's favor, as the regular one couldn't stand a chance against Ruby Rose. And while our Webslinger does have a power asset, the spider-sense at his side, he is not always fast enough to react, as you saw, Ruby took advantage of this, but she does not know that Spider-Man, is in fact, a genius, as he has experience in forming battle tactics and counter-measures.

- Has massively hypersonic+ or quad Mach digit reaction speeds normally however he has been known to amp up his reactions to upwards of relativistic-FTL when he pushes his spider sense to it’s limit.
- Currently has over a decade’s worth of experience fighting all sorts of super powered foes, including multiple speedsters who’d put Ruby to shame such as quicksilver.
-Extremely intelligent rivaling the likes of reed Richards and Doctor doom, on top of being a quick thinker who can create and change tactics on the fly during a fight.
- Is a master of hand to hand combat having trained with some of marvel’s best brawlers and has even developed his own fighting style, the way of the spider.
Ruby Rose stats:
-At most is city block level, more consistently building to large building level.
- At most is massively hypersonic via the outlier lightning feat from volume three.
- While she has been training ever since she was a child when it comes to fighting experience against human opponents she has about 3 years of experience at most, none of whom would remotely prepare her for an opponent such as Spider-Man.
- While the series doesn’t focus on her intelligence much she should be rather gifted seeing as she designed her crescent rose on her own, got into what is essentially RWBY college at the age of 15 and she’s very accurate with her sniper riffle, that being said her intelligence is nothing compared to Peter’s and while she is a quick thinker on her own right she has been shown to be rash in certain situations, something which Peter could easily exploit.
- Without crescent rose her hand to hand skills are rather lackluster yet another weakness Peter could easily exploit as one of the cornerstones of his fighting style is to disarm his opponent.
Overall in a well researched fight Spider-Man would most certainly win pretty much everytime against Ruby Rose who’d be unable to feasibly hit him while she’d be quickly worn down by his own attacks and before anyone brings up aura and/or silver eyes please note that:
1. Aura is not limitless in fact it can be broken with enough force which Spider-Man is more than capable of outputting.
2. Silver eyes were confirmed in volume six to only effect the Grimm and maybe the maidens, neither of which spidey is and even you argue they could blind him that would backfire on Ruby as it would amp his spider sense to compensate for the loss of vision, plus Spider-Man has fought while blinded multiple times in the past and still came out on top.

For those who said Ruby would have won, remember that so far the only things we know about silver eyes are:
1- They only/mainly affect grimm.
2-The user will fall unconscious after using them (at least an inexperienced user like Ruby).
3- They can be easily stopped (Emerald stopped them in Volume 5 with only a hit).
With what we know so far about them, I don't think silver eyes would have changed the result of the fight.

But honestly if people want to see an actual close to fair fight and more relatable characters then just put Ruby against marluxia. 1: both fairly close around strength, speed skill level (not including abilities). 2: both use a scythe. 3: and more importantly (for a more better reason why these to are more relatable) the Rose puddles that appears when that fight or use there abilities.
They do produce blinding light, not that it matters when you have spider sense but I see people leave that off the list a lot.
Marluxia is relative to a planet buster who is relativistic, minimum, in terms of speed.

From an animation standpoint, everything looked nice. But it felt like some of the punches didnt have that feeling of "oomph" and power. Sort of felt dull when rewatching it
It is in character for Spidey to hold his punches so he doesn't hurt an opponent. Specially a young girl like Rubes. And while Ruby isn't known for holding back, she does try to not hurt people when she can. I see the fact that in the animation she is using the blade as technical limitations (as in, her sprites from BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle don't have her hitting with the blunt side of CR), and in reality she was using her weapon as a maul, not a scythe.

Rewatching this 5 years later and I’m now realizing how unfair this match really was. Ruby was determined to lose from the beginning because Spider-Man hard counters everything she could do. Her speed and long range rifle gets countered by Spider-Man’s spidy sense alone. Factor in close combat and she stands no chance.
Nobody asked for this, but everybody needed this.

I kind of agree. Ruby wouldnt be able to beat Petey's spider sense, she wouldnt be the first trained fighter that he's dealt with, and her aura may increase her durability and strength but I doubt she could keep up with his reflexes.
Nephlim14 I’m pretty sure Peter is stronger (he knocked out a guy just by flicking his finger against the dudes forehead) and he has a healing factor (I think he grew back some of his fingers after Kraven chopped them off but I could be wrong).
