I'm surprised at how many negative comments here about how the photographer should have tried to scare off this goat on the car. 1st of all there were other goats on the ground around the car. 2nd Mountain goats will often stand their ground or charge you if you get too close. If you see a mountain goat coming down the trail you are on, turn around and head back down the trail to avoid getting too close to them. Like other big game animals, mountain goats can be especially aggressive toward dogs. Challenging a wild animal is not aways the best route to take.
Agreed. A huge portion of humanity--especially the ones who comment on social media--are ignorant as F. I have no idea why some people think that they can challenge a goat, bear, wildcat, or elk... let alone an angry wild turkey. Animals are FAST and strong. They will flunk you out of 3rd period French with a single swipe.
Thank you so much for sharing the story. So glad that I got up at 3:15 am that morning to go out with my camera. Note that there were two baby goats down below and to the right of the car, which is one reason why I did not antagonize the adult goats by trying to move them off the car. I would have done the same if they were on my car.
Not Yakima. In the original video from the owner you can see the rest of the carrier and it does not match the profile from any yakima. The closest I could find was cheap off brands
That's really cool and funny! I wish I knew where to go to try and see some mountain goats. Also, it's nice to hear Tony Keith on the story. My Dad and I miss seeing you on the news here in the Springs! 😊
Great advise from the photographer, "Yeah, you gotta really keep your eyes open...you never know what you might see." True that. If he hadn't had his eyes open, he wouldn't have seen a goat on a car. You can easily miss something like that.
For the people that thought the photographer should have tried to scare the goat away, the goat lives there, the car does not. Wildlife needs to live somewhere. If you don’t want an encounter with wildlife, don’t leave the inner city. 😂
There were also two baby goats at the scene, so it wouldn't make sense to antagonize the adults by trying to chase them off of the car. I would have done the same if they were on my car.
Goats love height! I saw a bunch of goats on top of a roof while riding my bike. There were at least 15 of them just on the roof walking and lying down. Some were black , black and white, brown, white, brown and white.
Last time went up there, the mountain goats demanded I give my stash of nuts and berry. Thats when it was called Mt. Evans and yes had to drag my hiking buddies up there since they ran out of air.🤣🤣That goat wanted something in that Subaru and it must smell good. Also Subarus have a soy based hoses in the engine compartment and are bear, squirrel and goat magnets.

Of anyone happens to find mountain goats dancing in their vehicle again, do not approach and try to chase them away. Despite their appearance they are very dangerous animals and they will defend themselves and their young. One may have even ended a grizzly.
And there were two baby goats at the scene, so it definitely made sense to avoid conflict with the two adult goats. I would have done the same if it was my car.
Mountain goats are actually not goats. They aren't even in the same genus as goats. They are in the bovidae family, which includes antelopes, gazelles and cattle.
That goat was having its best day ever.

Mountain goats are actually in the antelope genus, not in the goat genus.
