I've been salmon fishing for two years now and this video, for the most part, reinforces what I learned on my own by fishing and interacting with fellow anglers I meet. But I also definitely learned a thing or two as well from this video! I can't wait to try it next year. I think beginner anglers will appreciate this video. Thanks!
Nicely done guys, watching this now. So far, very informative. and comprehensive. 50% of the time I was checking out your AOA gear, the other 50% I was staring at that stache. 🤘

Been salmon fishing 11 seasons and I still enjoy watching others knowledge and tips. Fishing you can never master and I appreciate your honest approach and lures. My tackle is also loaded with same lures but that rat l trap ill have to test out. Great video thanks for sharing.
Guys I’ve been looking for something to tell me just what you did!!! Congratulations this is what everyone interested in this type of fishing need to see.
Little Cleos and KO Wobblers! That retrieve tip for spoons... Priceless!! Try a big Panther Martin with a small barrel swivel up about 2'-3'... Ans hang on LOL
Thanks so much! I’m visiting from FL. I’m a surf-fishing guide down there, and couldn’t wait to try freshwater fishing, even though it’s waaaay out of my element from saltwater beach fishing in Florida. While I was out here I saw a few huge fish cruising the beach and jetty near the inlet to the bay in Rochester, assuming those were king salmon after watching some videos. Ive got limited tackle with me and a retractable fishing rod on a 4000 reel, but I might go back and try a spoon or other lures I brought. What I was throwing a few days ago spooked them away (plus i think I was throwing too close to them and they must have great vision). Trying what I learned here before I head back south! Thanks again!
Thanks for the great information and suggestions. Looking forward to those salmon coming in closer. Was great meeting you Jesse the other week, hopefully we put a hurting on those salmon from the boats. Looking forward to it.
Hooked my first Slamon on a firetiger lipless crank. I was actually targeting steelhead at Wilmot creek. Unfortunately it broke off because my drag was too tight but man what a fight. These tips will definitely help me in the future. Thx
I recently bought a streamside heritage and a pfleuger president. Seeing them in the description made me feel like I made a good choice lol. Great video.
Wish I saw this before I started in bowmanville. No luck with the spoons but actually good hook ups with a Carolina rig and floating spawn sacks at night.
I have been fishing for 6 years and I have caught big salmon with an okuma 10-20 lb 10'6" with a tranX-gx 200 shimano baitcaster 180 yards of 25 lb line with 18 leader
Amazing video. Few weeks back I randomly went to Humber and caught an Atlantic Salmon(checked all the identification and the is what it was! released it of course). First ever salmon for me! Anyway using this video put up a kit and will try to catch something in the lake itself. If not this year then the next ;)
Quality video guys, wish i had this when i first started instead of trial and error. One question though, does the 10lb mono leader hold up consistently when landing the kings that are mid 20lbs?
10lb is more then fine in most situations. That 10lb Maxima ultra green is like rope it’s so tough. Mostly rivermouths and piers are mostly open water so you just have to play the fish with some finesse. We feel heavier leaders may impact the action on some lures so we try not to go over 12lb at the most. That being said, many people use heavier leaders so experiment and see what works best for you. Thanks for watching! Tight lines 🔥
Have you boys ever thrown Buzz Bombs off the piers? They work beautifully on the west coast, and I've killed lots of stripers and mackerel on them in the Gaspe, but I'm yet to try them on lake ontario..
Have you guys ever thought of fishing blade baits? like a steelshad? something like steelshad 3/4oz? they have a tight action and some nice vibes and flash What about jigging spoons? like Hopkins spoon?
@@averageontarioanglers I was wondering about the blade baits as they have the flash and superior casting ability of a metal lure but the vibes and tight action of a rattle bait. So could be a better in between lure . Regarding jigging spoons if they are effective then why don't anglers fish with shore jigging setups in the great lakes? These are very popular for targeting pelagics in the salt water from the shores. Rods between 9-11ft designed to cast jigs we can hit distances 100m+ with these setups and the recovery on the rods is designed to impart the jigging action on the metal jigs. These shore jigs have a slower fall due to their design and you could target different depths . I am a saltwater fisherman from India currently living in Toronto, so thought of sharing this knowledge

Thank for watching! Some of the local river mouths have launches and you can definitely get them in the harbours and rivermouths from a small boat or even kayak. We don’t mentions specific places just so nobody gets mad ha ha but they are fairly easy to find online 👍
I am from Montréal, Québec and i tried at gananoc but no salmon and the same around Ivy lea . So where are you fishing salmon from the shore... verry précisely please "wich town wich river mouth?" Please and thank you.
Looking to come up in next week for Salmon do u suggest Pulaski or Lake Ontario. I grew up fishing oceans & bays moved up to Roscoe looking for a productive trip
Do you offer guides? I've never been salmon fishing and live in Ontario. Would make a trip to get some salmon action with someone who knows spots and what they're doing lol
I have a 9 foot medium heavy fast action rod with a daiwa bg 4500. Im coming from saltwater fishing for red drum in NC to my birthplace of michigan to try to catch some salmon. Would this suffice?
I noticed you are using the Luhr Jenson Legacy rod. I want to buy the exact same rod that you have, but I'm worried about the bad reviews. Do you recommend it?
Hi Guys, What color of polarized sun glasses would you recommend for low light conditions. Any suggestions for polarized sunglasses for inshore fishing? Thank you!
September and October you can get salmon in the tribs and from September right through winter all the way til may you can get steelhead. Definitely nice to have something to do during the cold months 👌
Did you say you can cast further with your spinning rod over your baitcaster?!?! That must mean your baitcaster isn't tuned properly, they are made to cast much longer distances when tuned well because the line releases straight compared to the side ways with spinning reel that has resistance.
Spinning reels with large spools cast lures tied to wispy light braid extremely far. Loops coming off the spool fly thru the guides with minimal friction. A baitcaster will definitely cast farther in perfect conditions especially with a medium to heavier weight but throw in air resistant lures in lower weights like crank baits for example and the typical windy conditions at the river mouths and a spinning reel wins the majority of the time. I guess that’s why we rarely if ever see anyone shore casting for salmon with bait casting equipment around these parts.
i have started and didn't know anything, i started with a 50lb braid and remember never ever loosing a lure due to snag as I can bend out the hook pulling by the line. People who either don't bring a net or bring a small short handle nets annoy the hell out of me even more than people using bass gears trying to catch salmon. Unfortunately many people look at the braid diameter not the line rating and use the 40-50 lb braid since it’s 10-12lb thin... how to break a rod 101 😑
@@averageontarioanglers don't know if you are trying to correct me or agreeing with me. But yes putting heavy line not rated for the rod, will snap the rod.
You can’t always out cast bait caster reals there are guys that cast 100+ yards with bait caster reals. It’s all about how they are tuned most people have no idea about the tuning knob is on bait caster reals. Spinning gear needs no tuning, it’s just ready to go. I’d love to watch you cast a 100 yards without a brake away cannon, you’ll cut your fingers. But as they said spinning gear doesn’t back lash.
