Have you ever caught a salmon, trout, or steelhead on a spoon?! 💬👇🎣
Trout and bass!!
Hey bud, your in my backyard! I've got more fish on spoons than fishing any other way.
Where is he fishing? Somewhere in Oregon?
Pink Salmon and Bull Trout.
@@nickbild3538 yep that's all you need to know.
I highly recommend casting about 10 degrees upstream pointing the rod tip at the spoon then reeling barely faster than the current, this allows the spoon to fish deeper and slower than just swinging it, also you can cover the water faster and with more control because you are taking shorter casts and you'll feel strikes better as your rod isn't loaded up against the current on the spoon. just my opinion.
So true king! 🗣️🗣️🙏
I caught my first steelhead on a copper little cleo while I was using these techniques teaching myself how to feel it out.
No wonder I gave up on spoons YEARS ago because I was fishing them woefully wrong. Now I know why my Dad's and Grandfather's tackle boxes I have now, are full of different spoons. Thanks for the lesson.
AWESOME , these Addicted videos are without a doubt some of the best tutorials on the net .... I already know how to catch Salmon and Steelhead on rivers , but with help from these guys I've become much better and have many more techniques in my bag of tricks than I used to ..... great work guys ....
Thanks a bunch ..
Thanks again Jordan! I appreciate the wisdom I gain from the whole Addicted crew. Stay fishy and keep it Kickass y’all 😎
Spoon fishing with steelie spoons is how my father taught me to steelhead fish. Caught my first fish with a spoon, and was addicted after that. Thanks again guys for all your time and effort to bring us this info.
Thanks Jordan, I usually fish spinners and beads for steelhead here in Lake Erie during runs. I've seen many ppl using cleos and spoons and doing well. I have Never tied a spoon on for anything so this was a great tutorial! @addictedfishing crew has given me hours of entertainment and very informative when necessary! Keep it fishy 🐟 guys!!!! Yeahhhhhh hahah
Thanks Jordan! I moved to Idaho, been a salt water fisherman my whole life but just recently learned enough from your videos to go and and actually catch trout! Been having a blast and I’m totally addicted! I appreciate your guidance!
Always fished salmon in the salt. Snagged a few up at Klamath river but always wanted to try this method. Very thorough, very informative. Got me excited again. Thanks.
I’ve been watching a lot of your vids on catching steelhead and trout. Just got back into trout fishing a few ago. You give the best tutorials. Thanks man. I want to go for a steelhead someday. They look like a blast. Thanks again.
great video. guide select pro casting rod changed my life, thanks guys. such an incredible spoon rod paired with a low profile bait caster. I have caught 90% of my steelhead on spoons. it takes a long time to learn how to "feel" the spoon and to get it down to the fish but I think spoons can compete with bait if you can cover enough water. best spoons are rnb, pentac imo pline and lil cleos are chintzy in comparison. spoons seem to trigger the instinct of fish being territorial of their holding water, choice rocks, gravel or slots. you can drift fish spoons and spinners by mending your line and holding your rod high and keeping as much line off the water as possible- dont do this in snaggy water or you will be donating a lot of $$$ to the river.
Jordan you are a great informative teacher. You explaine all aspects of these techniques precisely and thoroughly.
Up till now I never knew that I've been fishing spoons incorrectly...and likely why I didn't catch many fish. I will watch this several more times and make sure to have a box of spoons with me all the time.
Thanks again for everything you guys to to help us improve our skills and experiences!
Martin Danzer Awesome Martin, good luck out there!
Thanks so much for this video. I’ve been using spoons with no fish my whole life, I’ve been using them wrong I thought they were supposed to do a fast 360. Can’t wait to try it again now.
1st time trying a fishing spoon this season, lost a good salmon, then saw your vid, i have now added swivel to both ends and changed to a better hook, top tip and makes sense. 30 years fishing and always learning, great vid about proper set up. how to fish it. Tight lines.
@@GranpaRAD Last season never lost a fish with swivel attached to hook, huge difference for salmon. Much better hook hold. Yes swivel at both ends.
Thanks for the lesson, love watching your videos
great vid, still holds up! actually insane knowledge from an expert mind.
You guys are hands down the best fishing channel on YT. How the hell don't you have 1 mil subs?!
This guy...
High level of intelligence. Able to talk as long and as fast as he does without verbal mistakes. Makes it easy to listen to him and retain the information he is giving. Info??? Same technique and colors I've been using for 30 years
Great instructional style. I will try similar techniques for walleye, goldeye and channel cats at lockport manitoba
Outstanding instruction! Thank you.
I’ve caught some big Kings on spoons.
A commercial fisherman taught me both silver and bronze. The key was polish them the night before. These were big spoons 6-8 inch for bigger fish. Keep your hands off them.
What I learned is when others arnt catching you are and bigger fish.
It works.
Awesome Instructional Videos! Thanks!
this helped me catch alot of species of fish ,thank you!
Had no idea how to fish the faster walking speed sections. Thanks for sharing that knowledge!!
Spoon fishing is my confidence fishing for salmon and trout 🤙
Another great informative vid. Thanks man! From San Diego, California.
One of my favorite spoons has always been a frog colored spoon. I got one when I was a small boy from the Herter's catalog and it was always productive.
They still make em, rooster tail makes a frog color as well i believe
Thank you for leaving your messed up cast in. We're all human! This is great. I just have to downsize for brookies
Really good video. Thanks.
Thanks for the info.
Super educational pretty slick man
love spoons. how I caught my first steelie
Fiord Jr chrome and orange, great spoon
Love your videos. Wish I could have seen the open eye through the barrel swivel.
Good advice
Great video guys
Your videos are awesome!
Great videos
Thanks for tips. Just caught 7 steelhead today and I never used spoons for steelhead before.
Awesome video!! Thank You!
pensnut08 Your welcome!
I've been using spoons the wrong way lol. I thought making it turn in full circle was the way to go. Great tutorial again☺
Fugg same here
fantastic video!
Never on a spoon yet but here in Michigan, Salmon and Steelhead love spinners. I'm gonna try it for sure
Y'all should come up to Blaine, WA and fish Dakota Creek the run is just starting but would be very helpful in learning how to fish dirty water "seaweed" and sticks
This is why I watch videos like this, all the years fishing spoons and I have never seen heard or thought of putting a swivel at the hook. Guess what I'm doing today?
We use flying Cs spinnerd here in Ireland for Atlantic salmon .have you ever come across them they have a tribble hook on them and a lot of vary of colour but brass and silver spinners sceem favourite here on a black size 2 to size 5 depending on the flow of river best after a flood . Rules have us only to use single barbells hook on one stretch of river . I will use you techniques next year as for now the season is closed till February again . Love year teaching and techniques.
I run braid all the time with flouro bumpers or with spoons using a swivel then to flouro. And gold is my favorite I especially that small kastmaster one it's killer
i spoon fish for bass been slayin em with the mepps syclops
Great advice 👍
Favorite color of spoon is silver or bronze with a single red line. Amazon has a good selection of cheap plain spoons and I paint them with decent quality nail polish.
great tip thanks
You’ve gotten bites after you use nail polish on it ?
Let's go and gets some
I use to catch a lot of trout and salmon on little Cleo's in the Racine marina in Wisconsin. I just started recently fishing again and had to get all new gear and Walmart had a pack of 4 2/5th oz for 15$. I'm about to go to Sheboygan marina and give it a shot.
Great content. Just subscribed.
Subbed But Now I Am Addicted Hobart Tasmania :-) Thank you
I like to use a size 35 Gibbs coho spoon with blue scales and an orange line on the back. Caught a few coho and steelhead on it this year
new subscriber here and loving your videos. Great tutorials, and only wishing you'd take a few seconds longer explaining and giving clear close-up of the rigging.
Great video! Thank you! Any tips you can give for the upper Rogue? Had no luck at all 2 years running and its killing me.
I love fishing! I caught a 300 pound sturgeon!
Another banger video boys🔥
cesar martinez 🤘🎣
Cheeep
i think spinners is the most versatile lure for shallow and fast moving water... i keep my spoon for deeper water...i have caught on swing jigging and upstream cast...
This was posted right on time. I'm going salmon fishing in a couple of days
Daniel Yu Good luck!
@@AddictedFishing Thanks a lot man!
Thanks for the tips! Coho will be coming in soon! They found some coho/chinook hybrids in a river near me too.
Andrew Steuart Really?! 🤯
Vancouver Island? Heard about that. Scary thought.
They say due to the low water levels the chinook come into the river system late and overlap with the coho.
Do it again with a fly rod! Loved this video!,
What gear ratio reel did you use? Would a 6:3:1 gear ratio work or do you need a faster one?
Another entertaining and informative video. I may have missed it, but what Okuma baitcasting rod/reel combo are you using?
Good stuff. Really appreciated. Just one question. I've learned something new. When your spoon comes to the end of the swim do you reel it back real fast because there was no chance to catch the fish at this point? Or you were doing it because you wanted to save the time and make another cast for video presentation?
Hell yeah
Hi Jordan, any thoughts on using a heavy snap swivel , connected to the top split ring? Allow for quick changes?
could you clarify if you are using a open eye mustad salmon siwash or big gun siwash? or do both have the curved bent hook? thanks :)
I have been fishing with spoons and daredevils for many years. I use the low cast skipping technique, like skipping a flat stone acros the top water. At waist level, swing, release the line, and one, two, three, boom! Fish on! Black and White spoons kick more ass. Red and white, silver and green, or any shinny colors, take no skill at all to catch any fish in that pond, or river. It looks like a shinner/shad and fish, especialy Bass, have no restraint when they see it. Hit those waters in the early morning.
We just found your site this year, we fish the situk river for the sockeye run every year and it was so sweet to know most of the places you fished in the two videos. We Are looking for some help, we are headed back up to yakutat for the coho season. In the beginning of your video you mention one of the hooks to be a mustard 2/0 sidestep open eyed. Is this the same as the hoodlum live bait with action ring 4x strong on their site? We love the set up and want to duplicate it.
What swivels are you using for stinger/hook setup. Did u actually cut into the ring prior too to b able to pinch on hook? Ive never send swivels like those.
Does the line go to the barrel swivel or did you put a snap swivel? I think you may have missed that part or I didn't see it.
Would You use a bait caster for spinners as well or just for spoons?
Thanks Jordan! Very informative as always. Can I use the twitching rod for the same application? or do I need to get another rod to use it with spoons?
Raquib Alam You could get by with a shorter rod.
You always need a new rod... you will learn with time lol
@@shaunlehman664 🤣
On the line end of the spoon why not go split ring to a snap swivel connected to the bumper/leader?
This setup seems like you have to cut and retie to the bumper to change spoons.
Jordan, great video, looking forward to using your recommendations. One question, is adding swivel to the bottom, where the hook attaches, overkill? Since you are adding one to the top of the spoon as well?
I was wondering the same
no. the top swivel is to promote action and control line twist. the hook swivel rotates in mouth of fish making it much harder for it to come unpinned and better hooksets
Blue and silver for pure Michigan steelhead and salmon. Got a nice coho in da channel yesterday. Y’all got any Siwash hooks in stock ?! Also, what color you think is best for super murky channel water ?
What size Mustad Siwash hooks do you use for spoons and what size for spinners?
love your videos very educational but i have one question will spawning salmon hit spoons. I fish the tributaries of Lake Ontario on the USA side the Salmon River and the fish that I'm fishing are coming up the river to spawn and wasn't sure if they would bite
I’m sure they would crush spoons.
I keep loosing a lot of my steelhead on these spoons. Am i not setting my hook right? Or am i missing the bite? My best one is with the blue
Before they closed I would fish in the upper Columbia Tribs where barbless is the name of the game. In order to keep torque off of the hook while fighting fish I would put an extra barrel swivel on the bottom of the spoon before I put the hook on. If a fish decides to gator roll the spoon rolls with the fish and the hook stays in place.
Ever try that with a spinner? Im going to hit the icicle this week
@@michaeltrotter7971, yes but I take it one step further and use a barrel swivel to a split ring with a blade on it to a Fish Field Tornado Chain Swivel to a Saiwash hook. The chain swivel helps clear the hook from the spinner blade, in my opinion, a better hook set.
Can you use this for lake Stripped Bass in Georgia?? Fishing in 30-50ft depth.
Awesome videos my man, appreciate all the knowledge. Caught my first king this year and I’m hooked! I even picked up my first okuma rod and I love it! Now looking to upgrade my baitcasting reel. Which model are you using in this video? Heard you say it was Helios but do you have a model number? Thanks again!
What length of flouro do you like to run from your braid?
Water levels fluctuate a lot by me during the season. How do you recommend adjust spoon weight according to depth?
what is the best way to fish tide steams
So if your rod and spoons are hardware would salmon eggs and power worms be the software?
Hello everyone! question! Does the 8-17 lbs spinning rod handle lighter lures okay as well? for example 1/4 oz jigs? Currently looking at the 9'9" 8-17 lbs rod for steelhead and salmon, but also big river walleye. I want to get a bit of extra casting distance with walleye lures over my 7 foot spinning rod, as I fish from shore. Thank you!
Also, 9 foot rod or a 9 foot 9? For overall versatility
Have you ever caught a fish during your excellent tutorials just curious
Alex C We usually aren’t trying to catch fish, just trying to get the videos made. If it happens it’s a bonus.
On their how to plunk for sockeye tutorial one of the guys landed a sockeye
It's a fishing tutorial not a catch compilation
I have caught rainbows ,browns and trout on spoons
I dont fish creeks just lakes
Feed 'em steel! Dive bomb in upper right corner of frame @ 19:35
What brand braid you using
how do you know what siwash size to replace the other cheaper hook with ???
Italian Troutaholic 2/0 or 3/0
👍🏻
I'm new to salmon fishing (in Oregon), but my understanding is that salmon doesn't go after pray / lures during specific cycles of its spawing, only beeds or salmon roe works at that time. Could anyone clarify this, please?
They hit them out of aggression
Salmon like all fish are opportunistic. If the chance presents itself they strike regardless of spawn cycles or bait used.
Good video Jordan!! I like the little Cleo personally though lol
Do I need to have a swivel on the spoon
So you don’t want to reel in quick with spoons so it does the 360,spins? It really scare off the fish
Where is this river? It's gorgeous me and the wife are in Michigan and just getting into salmon and steelhead fishing steelhead season is starting very soon and spoons are our favourite for trout any tips or anything? Btw love the content it's awesome for some to finally wanna help us newbies lol
Taylor Holz We’re In Oregon State.
Good luck out there! Be sure to watch our dedicated trout tips videos as well.
@@AddictedFishing yeah definitely will we have plenty of rivers here we really like the 1/8 little Cleo's for small creeks 1/4 Cleo's for bigger rivers and 1/3 for just about every species ever had like using glow spoons? Like moonshine lures there really popular out here in the piers on lake Michigan.
@@taylorholz911 I found they are effective early morning or late at night with the sun down still. The moonshine spoons make it just a little more noticeable to them. I also live in Michigan and use them in the local rivers for salmon, steelhead, and walleye.
@@randylederer1819 which ones do you like the most? By far the most success we've had has been the blue and white with black dots 3/4 I believe
