Thank you for an awesome video without music that takes away from the experience. I know that the new phantom 4 is out but for cost concerns I am getting the Phantom 3 advanced.
The 4 looks nice but the only the thing that I really like for my personal use would be battery upgrade. The rest is cool and innovative but for me isn't worth the extra money. I love the 3. I am actually considering buying another Advanced.
Thank you for your feedback we are only talking about a maximum 5 to 600 yards of flying. I would have perfect line of sight but I would only be able to see people trespassing or walking through the field from above.
Impressive, I fear to take mine out that far. I think I have only taken mine out about 500 feet, but have flown to altitudes of 350 feet. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for posting. I am undecided between buying Advance or Pro model. They say the advance app screen is not as good a quality (2kbs vs 10kbs) But from the looks of your video I am thinking 2kbs is good enough considering the difference in price right now. (about $450 us) 2.7k cam is also good enough for me.
They (pro and advanced) should both have 720p FPV. The only difference is recording quality of Pro is 4k. which is nice but my computer can't handle it. It struggles with 2.7k.
Just got the advanced, first flight was today but the video feed started lagging at only like 400m and then it completely disconnected and initiated "return to home" at like 500m away. Why would that happen, shouldn't it be able to go several KMs without any lagging or disconnecting? I have an iPhone 6 and was in a fairly wide open area. Thanks
We're the antennas pointed up and not towards the p3? Any towers nearby? Firmware updated? That's about all I can think of. I sometimes have problems like that also even flying at the same spot.
+M Sackman antennas were pointed up as that's what the diagram showed to do, I guess I should point them toward the drone? No towers but some apartment buildings, checking firmware now
+Jonathan Rogler Yeah, they should be pointed up not at the p3. If there is nothing in your line of sight like trees etc it may just be hit or miss. If you can take it higher in the air that will help.
Great video! Quick question - If the RC transmission signal is lost due to being out of range, will RTH automatically kick in? Or, is there more to it?
Yes, it will initiate the RTH automatically. Once you are back in range all you have to do is touch any of the controls to regain control of it. Or just let it fly back on its own. Either way I'd be careful of the battery level.
There are no rules yet for night flying. I chose to fly this route because it was late in the evening and there were no people out even though I flew mostly over fields and trees. My LOS was pretty good until it started to cut out because even though it's hard to see from the video I'm on a hill and was flying had LOS through a big gap in between the trees. I turned around and came back when LOS was mostly lost. All I could see was a tiny red speck in the sky just above the horizon. Since this I've taken it to an open farmland with perfect LOS and reached 7k ft. Only brought it back because it made me too nervous.
scottythefreak Obviously, you think I'm trying to justify myself by my last comment. I'm not. If you think I broke any FAA rules then by all means show me since you are the voice of the FAA. As you can clearly see from the app I kept it a safe altitude and didn't fly over people. Also, I flew FPV with good line of sight. Which isn't a requirement merely a suggestion for good connection. You lost the debate. Go cry about something else.
Mike Sackman Visual line of sight is merely a suggestion for good connection? FPV is not visual line of sight. You have no idea what you are talking about, and this isn't a debate. It's about the safety of others - but you don't seem to care about that.
scottythefreak Like I said before. I've taken this out to 7k ft over open farmland. At 400ft altitude and 2000k ft distance, you cannot see the quad. At all. You're merely flying fpv. This flight wasn't st night, wasn't over people and was at FAA regulated altitude.
Is there a way to have a pre-program way point flight path? I would like this phantom to fly a certain pattern every day, take pictures at certain points and return.... Is this possible?
With the new upgraded software yes, there is. you have to put it into function mode, select waypoint mission, fly your route noting your way points, when you're done save it as a favorite.
+Pappy SLAP No, that feature wasn't available when I did this flight. Way point flying with the P3 is different now. You actually have to fly the route first noting the markers before you can do it now.
Hey Mike love the video you seemed to be very experienced. I have a few questions I am interested in getting a drone for scouting out my hunting land for trespassers and things like that I have never even seen a drone before and I have never even flew a drone before any suggestions
If I were you I'd start by learning to fly with a toy quad like a Hubsan x4 or something similar. That's how I started. This Phantom 3 is actually easier to fly than the toy quads because it's gps enabled which means it'll lock with satellites and pretty much stay in the same spot even when you let go of the controls. It'll just hover. I don't know how much land you have but this one will go as advertised 1.25 miles and probably further with first person view as long as you have good line of sight. You'll also want a good device to fly with. My cell phone didn't cut it anymore so I bought an iPad mini. It works very well and has a bigger much clearer screen. But like I said, start small and work your way up to a advanced drone. I wouldn't start with a Phantom. Start with a cheap, easily fixable quad. Then go to a Phantom. Make sure to read the manual in its entirety also. There are also a lot of good videos here also for reference. Good luck. Any more questions feel free to ask.
I had data in this video. If you don't have either which is in the case when I fly using my iPad that only has Wi-Fi in an open field somewhere the Google Map still works but it doesn't show your roads or anything else. But it will show your flight path.
I enjoyed this! How did you record the screen like that? I'll be getting my phantom shortly and look forward to do some recordings of my own but I particularly like how you've got the GPS and the other stats on the screen.
Thanks. The telemetry and GPS come on the DJI Go app. I used a screen recorder for this flight which basically records whatever is on you phone or tablet while it running. Can't do it with IOS though. Enjoy your phantom. you'll love it.
The FPV is unchangeable at 720p. Looks much better than this uploaded video. This footage is just from the screen recorder app. Looks much better fpv. And 10x better when it's on your pc at 60fps 1080p.
Mike Sackman I understand the actual video will be better, but I also wanted to know the FPV quality. Are you sure it's unchangeable? Because I have seen other people's video on phantom series they were able to adjust the FPV resolution from the app.
nisnegativeone I'm not sure it's possible. You can mess around with video/camera settings that might give you better fpv but you cannot change the fpv from 720p.
C.G. Johnson I use AZ Screen Recorder. But you can use any of them. The AZ is free at first then they charge $3 for it for a one time fee. It's a pretty cool app. Wish it was in HD though.
I have the DJI 3 Professional and it is saying that I can only max out at 500meters for the distance. How do I get past that or what settings do I have to change? I am using the DJI go app
If you see the 500 meters in the DJI App it's talking about altitude. There is no max distance horizontally that can be set or altered. I've taken mine well over 7000ft in distance before. If you get out of range the "return to home" will activate.
See the picture above? It shows H: for height and D: for distance. In the settings, I have a max Distance I can put of 500 meters. That is where it gets me stuck. What setting do you fly on? F P or A?
+Steve's Plumbing Service Inc - Oahu I fly in P mode. I'm not sure what the problem is for you're distance setting. I only have an altitude setting that maxes out at 500 meters. Sorry I can't help.
Yes, there are two. One is the % box to the right of the HD bars. The other is the long line at the top that has time remaining. It's actually much better quality live. Especially when you plug it into the computer.
+Mike Sackman In my opinion the Ipad works much better so it's worth it to switch. I was having some lag and FPV quality issues with the Android. Could of just been me though.
***** No, it will not. It's a smart aircraft that's gps enables so it knows when it has stopped. But if you do engage the CSC it will fall out of the sky. Knock on wood but it seems highly unlikely to engage CSC while airborne.
M Sackman oh I know man I have the standard and wanna get the pro but I've seen a lot of comments and reviews and people say they can't even go a mile. I just get nervous to go that far lol. Can the standard go as far as the advanced? Also is there a certain mode I want to be in to be able to go further? Thank you
I don't think the Standard can because it doesn't have the Lightbridge built in. There are mods for the rc I think like better antennas that can push it further.
+Mike Gauer Trust me, the long distance flights are fun for the first couple. After that, it's a little nerve wracking. The Standard is a good quad. I'm thinking about getting one myself. have fun.
Hello i am frensh and i but à galaxy table De and the monitor is flicking, it is not fluide same White à galaxy s3 Please HELP ME what did you use for a good réception like that ' it don't jerk like me... sorry i am frensh
I flew this with Galaxy Alpha. Does fine but now I fly with an iPad mini 2 which works great. I much prefer the iPad. Better display and the Dji Pilot app works better in general.
OK thank you , so i buy that for never ? Not working correct ,, fliking saccade flerk' you now strange I have 3 go RAM, 8 hearth, ect ' not bad' ' and you Day with Apple it is fluide it is à good and fluide transmission, ? I test that with an iphone 5 , Samsung is definitively ànd realy à big shit like that? I am Hill tout had buy that tab S '' sorry don't speak english very well, , ;)
Yes, the iPad works pretty flawlessly. I had trouble with a Nexus 7 also. It flickered and froze up some also. I think an Apple product I the way to go in my opinion.
nice flying, had mine 2 weeks but havent had the balls yet to send it that far. If I loose it my wife will kill me...lol any way to screen record on a ipad mini 2?
Ha! Yeah, mine would kill me also. I've taken it n out to 7k ft since this video in open farmland. Took me awhile to get enough courage. It's pretty solid. I'm flying with the ipad mini 2 now also and so far I haven't found any screen recorders for it. Apple blocks them for security reasons. If you do find something let me know. Thanks.
I don't think the dji was intended for flying in the city. There's alot to block out signal, I took my p3 over 4000 in a grass plains the only problem about it is that video latency lags.
Mike Sackman exactly my friend has a ipad air 1, no problem too it's something with apple I sware. Though what's the secret to recording the flight video.
Jon Ishitani. Yes, the Dji pilot app is optimized for Apple products. I used AZ screen recorder for Android. Apple does not offer a screen recorder from the app store for security reasons.
Mike Sackman I like those because imo it makes the video look like your epic flight moment recorded, there's no questions asked here proof well displayed. The cinematic stuff I do but most of the time I have to showy clients a raw video but this video proof is great they know it was me that did the job.
Holy shit! Most I've been brave enough to do is 7000ft. Unlike this video I had perfect lign of sight though. 3500 ft is still pretty good though especially with trees blocking the view.
That's pretty good for the Standard. I didn't think it came with the Lightbridge. I've approached 8k ft with this before. Though that was in open land. Wouldn't attempt in the city.
So if I take mine up in the neighborhood I will have the same issue? To be honest 0.5 miles is basically nothing in my neighborhood, i can barely go down the street then. :(
Just depends on what is blocking your view of the quad. Take it up to 400ft and there may not be much of an issue. The further you go the less los los have if there are trees, houses etc.
+Fredrik Åström Because you are looking at the live feed and on top of that, a screencast. The live feed is 720p. Awesome for a live feed, and it has an awesome range too, several kilometres for the P3.
I know, right? Also, you don't have to worry about making sure u are pointed directly at the aircraft when doing long range anymore which is a HUGE positive lol. Especially when u live in an area with gnats lol
Jeremy Miller You might want to double check that. Says in manual not to charge them both at once cause it'll cause the charger to overheat. Hate to see you ruin that. Probably hard to replace at the moment.
If you fly above 400ft AGL you are only asking for trouble. Take down a full scale and you will be going to jail. You are flying in congested navigable airspace in your video.

Took it out to 6000ft last week. Lightbridge is pretty solid. Try it out. Just make sure to good lign of sight.
Mike Sackman ya need to check out my video. 11000 feet with mine before I just turned around
Very Nice Video Mike !!!!
Wow, this is a really long distance. I ordered the windsurfer for the antenna. Hope I can flight so long range too.
Greetings
Roland
You should be able to without any upgrades. I've taken it out to around 7000ft in open farmland.
+M Sackman dude how do you get it that far?
+Mike Gauer open farm land, that's how. Urban areas have to much wifi interference to get really far.
Thanks for posting. I am undecided between buying Advance or Pro model. They say the advance app screen is not as good
a quality (2kbs vs 10kbs) But from the looks of your video I am thinking 2kbs is good enough considering the difference in price right now. (about $450 us) 2.7k cam is also good enough for me.
They (pro and advanced) should both have 720p FPV. The only difference is recording quality of Pro is 4k. which is nice but my computer can't handle it. It struggles with 2.7k.
this mashine is perfect !!! i want phantom 3 now !!!!
i love phantom 3 pro. i fly almost every day on the back yard of my house
Nice Video!
How did you get the audio from the aircraft camera... All my videos have not sound...
It's a screen recorder app.
Is it Mobizen?
M Sackman
witch app is it mate please?
leegenix mobizen is trash
RoyaleSam Agreed.
Just got the advanced, first flight was today but the video feed started lagging at only like 400m and then it completely disconnected and initiated "return to home" at like 500m away. Yes, it will initiate the RTH automatically. Once you are back in range all you have to do is touch any of the controls to regain control of it. Or just let it fly back on its own. Either way I'd be careful of the battery level.
More importantly, make sure to set the RTH altitude higher than the tallest objects in your flight path.
Mike Sackman
Thank you so much :)
Mike Sackman Many thanks :)
What is current FAA guidelines on night flying? How were you able to keep visual line of sight?
There are no rules yet for night flying. I chose to fly this route because it was late in the evening and there were no people out even though I flew mostly over fields and trees. My LOS was pretty good until it started to cut out because even though it's hard to see from the video I'm on a hill and was flying had LOS through a big gap in between the trees. Since this I've taken it to an open farmland with perfect LOS and reached 7k ft. Only brought it back because it made me too nervous.
Mike Sackman No way you still had line of sight - you were flying solely via FPV. You broke many FAA rules, don't kid yourself.
scottythefreak Obviously, you think I'm trying to justify myself by my last comment.

+M Sackman is this what you did with this flight? I saw you had some tracks on the app that were in yellow...were you flying waypoints?
+Pappy SLAP No, that feature wasn't available when I did this flight. Way point flying with the P3 is different now. You actually have to fly the route first noting the markers before you can do it now.
Does yours have a mic? I hear some props. I wish they had the option to have a mic I like to hear the motors.
No mic. This is just a screen recorder app.
Happy Flying!
is the pilot app better than DJI GO?
Hey Mike love the video you seemed to be very experienced. I have a few questions I am interested in getting a drone for scouting out my hunting land for trespassers and things like that I have never even seen a drone before and I have never even flew a drone before any suggestions

beautiful! also just out of curiousity, does it consume data usage? like your cell phone data in order to use it?
No, not data or wifi needed. You plug the rc directly into your device and go.
+M Sackman
How does the google map load without data or wifi? :/
I had data in this video. If you don't have either which is in the case when I fly using my iPad that only has Wi-Fi in an open field somewhere the Google Map still works but it doesn't show your roads or anything else. But it will show your flight path.
So assuming that no data or wifi is present, is the flight path alone enough to bring the drone back where it started?
+Fahim Foysal Yes.
So, could you still see your P3 from the ground over a half mile away from you?
Nick Sanders no
What tablet are you using?. There is almost no lag in video! Good flight!!
Awesome thanks! What Android screen recording app did you use?
+Drew Fisher. AZ Screen recorder. I think it's even HD now.
nice vid, thumbs up! but can you tell me how i can include the pilot view (stats) when i upload my flight vid?
You'll have to get a screen recorder app for android device. Not available for iOS.
+M Sackman i have droid, so youre recording the screen while the drone is recording?
+Ezra Ivey
Yes. But you don't have to record with the drone. Just the screen recorder.
Love the video man!! Keep up the good work!! What city is that?
Thanks. It's Indianapolis.
Hi, just curious to know what FPV setting did you use? 720P 30fps? or 480P?
The FPV is unchangeable at 720p. Looks much better than this uploaded video. This footage is just from the screen recorder app. Looks much better fpv. And 10x better when it's on your pc at 60fps 1080p.

nisnegativeone I'm not sure it's possible. You can mess around with video/camera settings that might give you better fpv but you cannot change the fpv from 720p.
which phone are you using? Is it a recommended one?
It's a Galaxy. I fly with an iPad mini now. It's much better.
Im new to flying Phantom. How do you do videos with Telemetry overlay?
Screen recording app.
which app did you use?
C.G. Johnson I use AZ Screen Recorder. But you can use any of them. The AZ is free at first then they charge $3 for it for a one time fee. It's a pretty cool app. Wish it was in HD though.
what app you use for recording ?
AZ Screen Recording. Free for a few then $3.
What's the furthest distance this can safely go?
I've had it out to over 8k ft in open farmland. I've seen others take it farther.
Mike.. tell me why you set it to follow? what is that for? i got my 3 yesterday... great video btw !
The "follow" is in reference to the gimbal. It allows for more stable video depending on how you fly and correct for left and right maneuvers.
Mike Sackman thanks Mike
No problem. Have fun flying! They're a blast.
I have the DJI 3 Professional and it is saying that I can only max out at 500meters for the distance. How do I get past that or what settings do I have to change? I am using the DJI go app
You're talking about height. it cannot be changed. That's the max. Legally it should max out at 400 ft.
I am talking about distance. I get stuck at 500m as well. Do I have to fly it in a different setting or something?
If you see the 500 meters in the DJI App it's talking about altitude. There is no max distance horizontally that can be set or altered. I've taken mine well over 7000ft in distance before. If you get out of range the "return to home" will activate.
See the picture above? It shows H: for height and D: for distance. In the settings, I have a max Distance I can put of 500 meters. That is where it gets me stuck. What setting do you fly on? F P or A?
+Steve's Plumbing Service Inc - Oahu
I fly in P mode. I'm not sure what the problem is for you're distance setting. I only have an altitude setting that maxes out at 500 meters. Sorry I can't help.
Cool video. Is the figure that keeps updating by the battery indicator the estimated flight time remaining?
Yes, there are two. One is the % box to the right of the HD bars. The other is the long line at the top that has time remaining. It's actually much better quality live. Especially when you plug it into the computer.
Great Video Mike... What tablet are you using bro?
For this one it was a Galaxy Alpha phone. I've since switched to an IPad mini 2. much better experience.
Thanks for responding, yeah that's what im thinking of getting. Any overheating issues with Ipad mini 2?
+CODRONE Nope, not whatsoever. Works great.
+Mike Sackman In my opinion the Ipad works much better so it's worth it to switch. I was having some lag and FPV quality issues with the Android. Could of just been me though.
Mike Sackman Thanks bro.. YOU DA MAN!!!!
Where do u change the ms to mph at in the app??
Settings. Change from metric to imperial will change everything around.
Lucky you I have too much interference in my neighborhood I lose signal. Or maybe if I fly higher I wouldn't lose signal?
Yeah, at 400ft there should be much interference. if it wasn't for the trees in front of me I could've hit a mile or more.
Any IOS app which let you record the flight panel?
Not that I've found. they say it is a security issue and won't allow them. I wish they did because I mainly fly with an iPad.
Thanks m8 :-)
Fill phantom with explosives then crash into WTO…
Seriously though, how do you control the camera
when You land on your hand how You turn it off ?
Just hold it for a second then bring the left stick down and hold it til it powers down the motors.
Mike Sackman so we can turn off engines when dji is in the air! :( ? Scary!
***** No, it will not. It's a smart aircraft that's gps enables so it knows when it has stopped. But if you do engage the CSC it will fall out of the sky. Knock on wood but it seems highly unlikely to engage CSC while airborne.
Mike Sackman ok i will test it soon :) they shipped to me my advanced today
***** Cool. You'll love it.
how did you get it to fly so far!?
It's a Phantom 3. They are designed to go around 1.25 miles. I've had it further.
M Sackman oh I know man I have the standard and wanna get the pro but I've seen a lot of comments and reviews and people say they can't even go a mile. I just get nervous to go that far lol. Can the standard go as far as the advanced? Also is there a certain mode I want to be in to be able to go further? Thank you

Thank you for your answere.. I test an Apple.. ;) and May be i can keep my phantom 3 because i like this machin... For simple '' operator..
nice flying, had mine 2 weeks but havent had the balls yet to send it that far.
Thanks.
That was so cool I am going to buy one
That's a sweet video of the p3 I'm getting one lol
How is this 3500 feet ?
Distance not altitude.
I don't think the dji was intended for flying in the city. There's alot to block out signal, I took my p3 over 4000 in a grass plains the only problem about it is that video latency lags.
I was having same issues with lag until I bought an iPad mini. No lag at all now.
Pretty sweet
I hit 8 miles stock with mine 4 going and 4 coming back had 12 percent battery life left it's on my RUclips channel. Phantom 3 is awesome!
Holy shit! Most I've been brave enough to do is 7000ft. Unlike this video I had perfect lign of sight though. 3500 ft is still pretty good though especially with trees blocking the view.
O was out in open fields so had pretty much no blockage
***** I bet that was a nerve wracking flight back from 4 miles wasn't it?
Isn’t this a hazard to aircraft?
Cara tenho p3 advance nunca passei de 1300 metros com ele fala pra nos como fazer isso
I was able to get 4200ft with the standard, no windsurfer, but it is coming!
That's pretty good for the Standard. I didn't think it came with the Lightbridge. I've approached 8k ft with this before. Though that was in open land. Wouldn't attempt in the city.
M Sackman It doesn't have lightbridge
Good to know. I've been thinking of getting a Standard lately since they came down on price.
So what you're saying is it can barely go 0.6 miles...hmm. It's supposed to go way farther.
Haha. No, goes way further. Trees blocked my line of site in this video. Have taken it out to 7k feet in open ground.
So if I take mine up in the neighborhood I will have the same issue? To be honest 0.5 miles is basically nothing in my neighborhood, i can barely go down the street then. :(
Just depends on what is blocking your view of the quad. Take it up to 400ft and there may not be much of an issue. The further you go the less los los have if there are trees, houses etc.
very good
I like it !!!!! Ya buddy !!!!
Nice !!!
Why are the video quality so bad?
+Fredrik Åström Because you are looking at the live feed and on top of that, a screencast. The live feed is 720p. Awesome for a live feed, and it has an awesome range too, several kilometres for the P3.
+Fredrik Åström And remember he is flying )recording) in LOW light, and had to use ISO3200 to make it any good.
Also, this is a screen recorder app so it will diminish the quality a little when uploaded.
Great !!!!
Check out my 11,000 feet video with my p3. I policyholders the p3. No more bulky helical antennas to deal with thank God.
Yeah, they're incredible. Huge upgrade! I'll check it out.
I know, right? Also, you don't have to worry about making sure u are pointed directly at the aircraft when doing long range anymore which is a HUGE positive lol. Especially when u live in an area with gnats lol
Jeremy Miller Very true. Also don't have to worry about aaa batteries either.
You got that right! Lol. Oh, AND u can charge the batteries and transmitter at once, as well as upgrade both at the same time
Jeremy Miller You might want to double check that. Says in manual not to charge them both at once cause it'll cause the charger to overheat. Hate to see you ruin that. Probably hard to replace at the moment.
Wish this was out last February when i got my income taxes back.
Buy yourself a barbie doll...What did u do with your refund?? Bought cases of beers??
alex dolah Nah. I got the parrot bebop.
lol. I opted out of the barbie doll and got me the phantom 3 advanced recently. MUCH more worth the money.
vid starts at 0:54
+Scott Truman look at my videos on my RUclips profile and see if I'm flying carelessly.
3500 ÷ 10 ft flight
It is a very expensive app 29.99
No it's not LOL
I did 5800 today
That awesome! I tried for 5280 in a wide open field but my phone started acting up and freezing at around 300ft. The Lightbridge is incredible.
3300 ft. That is
Before the phantom 3's came out we were bragging how high we can fly now it's the distance. lol.
alex dolah Haha! True.
Don't fly over other people's property.
A3Kr0n The air isn't their property. lol.
Dumbass
@A3kron shut up dumbass. People's property is not located up in the sky
alex dolah He said over property, dumbass. And you're not supposed to fly over such areas...doesn't matter who you think owns the air.
+Scottythefreak Okay meat head.
If you fly above 400ft AGL you are only asking for trouble. Take down a full scale and you will be going to jail. You are flying in congested navigable airspace in your video.
+Waylon Johnson He never got higher that 335 feet.
+Waylon Johnson Derp
correction 400' above sea level.
+Jon Ishitani
You are incorrect. If you were I wouldn't even be able to drive as my house is 1135' above sea level
Jeff McDonald you can't fly a drone not a car lol. Doesn't make sense but we were told that during a lecture.
U mean 350ft not 3500 😂😂
He's not taking about altitude
+Icy oh I see -.-
