  • In this video, I look at a 1995 Saturn SW1, and talk about the rise and fall of Saturn as a car company.
If you are looking for more information about NUMMI, the joint venture between Toyota and GM, here is a great podcast on the topic:

Greatest car I ever owned was a 1998 Saturn SL2. Indestructible and reliable. That car got its ass kicked daily 14 hours a day for almost 2 years and never even asked for air in the tire. Can't tell you how many times it ran at highway speeds for hours with no oil and no engine knocks. I miss that 1.9 dual overhead cam......

      What happened to the car?

@@danh2134 Ran the 1998 Saturn sl2 into the ground and junked it after 18 months of ownership . I owned that car in what you as to be the greatest time period of my life looking back & ironically - that was 10 years ago in 2013. Seen it on Craigslist for $ 900.00 with 156k on the odometer.. Bought the car on a whim, took it to the mechanic one single time on the day of purchase to fix radiator and brake pads then ran the shit out of it like it was a yellow New York City taxi cab. Even got broadsided ( dead square T boned on driver side) on Christmas Eve night at 30 mph in Philadelphia. Stopped, exchanged info and drove away minutes later. A simple hairline crack in door. Towards the end, it drank oil, needed struts so I said farewell to junkyard when muffler system fell of on New Jersey turnpike. Dam thing loved to be driven hard but preformed flawlessly every single second that I owned it.

I have a 2001 sl2 and must say its very reliable, never any engine problems, twin cam16 valve and great on gas. It may not be the best looking but strangely one of the best motors and trans ive had..

My SL-1 is still the best car so far. And I've had more than my share. The only imperfection is that it is not an SW 1

And probably the last time A dealership will have a bbq for the public. in which all the sales employees will applaud as you drive off in your new Saturn . Rip

The Saturn SW1 is ~40cm shorter than a Volvo 240. If you compare weight you should look at something like a VW Jetta or Golf station Wagon or some Japanese cars that is closer in size.
    Still interesting car, absolutely

I also pointed out that it weighs at least 250 lbs less than a Protege5, and it’s longer than the Protege5. And people love the Protege5 and talk about how light it is for a wagon.

I wonder if Saturn would survive it was a company today

I always felt that Saturn became Oldsmobile post 2004. The Saturn Aura for instance... Aura....Aurora... Hmm. This was no accident. Even the GM parts bin Saturns, they were unique in their own way.
