Where did you get those rear mudflaps?
@@morganevans7269 they are factory equipment, and they were on the car when I bought it! The original owner was a Volvo enthusiast, and I think he ordered them when the car was new.
ain`t stock turbo a 13c on a 740/940 turbo engine.
@@charlieandersson4069 the 13C was available in the “later” years. The early 740’s came with the 12B Mitsubishi turbo. And some of the cars had a Garrett turbo, like on my 1991 940 SE.
love the upgrade!! may i ask where you got your turbo from? would love to upgrade my 1990 volvo 740 sedan
@@djisak_ I purchased this turbocharger used from a member of the Volvo online community, but they can also be pulled from junkyard cars, specifically the Volvo S70 T5.
@@Vehicularious thank you so much for your response. I think I am going to be going to my local junkyards around me and hunting for one. Thank You!
Your camera work sucks
Nice build - I'm working out bugs on mine - just stage 1 stuff ..
Nice work 👍
Glad you're enjoying the upgrade! The 16t really does liven up car.
Nice build, can tell you're really making sure every detail is right! Did a similar upgrade on my '94 945 turbo, does make it more fun!
You are very lucky to own this beautiful and iconic piece of automotive machinery.
LOL. The thrill in your voice when the old girl fired up. Same as I felt when my 940 started again after a failed petrol tank pump failed and I fixed it. It took minutes of cranking before the fuel system pressurised and put enough in the cylinders to fire. But I kept cranking and Oh Hell Yes it fired.
1987 nice.
That 740 turbo is a fine looking vehicle. The upholstery is great with the two tone material. The front of the car is sharp, twin rectangular head lights, great. Manual trans, very nice. What year is the car? Also the faux wire alloys are very nice. I have a 940 GL wagon, auto non turbo, but it is a nice car also. Volvos are just a pleasure to drive.
@@mayflowerlash11 thank you! This one is a 1987. I also have a couple prior videos about these wheels. One video shows when I found them in a junkyard, and another video shows when I had them powder coated.
I would be reluctant to secure the exhaust pipe to the drive train by those metal strap. It ties the two together in a way that was not intended. If the exhaust vibrates it will be transmitted to the drive train. If the drive train vibrates it will be transmitted to the exhaust. I would find a point on the chassis to secure the exhaust pipe too.
@@mayflowerlash11 thank you for this feedback. My understanding is that you want the exhaust and drivetrain to be linked, because the engine will move a lot on the motor mounts. If I secure the exhaust to the chassis with a hard mount, when the engine moves under load, it will transmit forces to the turbine and ultimately cause it to crack. I do have a little more vibration with this pipe than the stock one. What I might do is try and put a clamp “brace” further forward, using the stock location on the bell housing. Then I could disconnect the one you saw in the video.
VOLVO 740 mekbrudarna youtube 😀
can i ask what kind of hp figure can be achieved and at about what rpm is expected a td04hl-13t turbo to spool on a 2L petrol engine with fully variable intake cam? And what pressure could it be able to maintain up to 7-7.2k rpm? Thanks
@@opexo I can’t even begin to answer this question, as we never got the 2.0 engine in the USA, nor the 13T turbo. Most of the later redblock turbo cars came with the B230FT engine and a 13C turbo.
man i’ve tried to do this install like 3 times now and every time the gauge has no reading. i used size 16awg wire for the sender and the gauge. i’m also using fuse 16 to power the gauge but nothing seems to work. any advice?
@@connorr772 I’m not an electrical expert, but I think first you need to make sure you are getting power to that wire you are using to source your power. You may also want to check continuity on your gauge to confirm it’s working. I would think that if you use a multimeter to check connectivity, and touch your leads to the terminals on the gauge, then the gauge should swing all the way to the maximum oil pressure?
Great video and great idea. I have a '06 S with nearly identical mods, felt like driving in my car. Such a great sounding machine.
@@gray25xt thank you for the kind words! I love this car. The instant throttle response of the supercharger is always a pleasant drive.
I just picked up 89 Camry Wagon 4cyl with 60k miles on it in LA. I love the style !
I am looking for parts from this car. Do you have a business name or contact information?
@@danvanderzwet2915 this car is certainly gone. It was at Chesterfield Auto Parts in Richmond, VA. But it was over 10 months ago.
If you have an original unadjustable wastegate, just shims it out with washers. About 3-7 depending on the size/wg will put you at ~1bar which is max for a 13c.
I enjoyed the way that brother drove his Mini Copper. The way he shift the gears, picked up speed was on point. O & put on his shade first then through down on his Mini Cooper. Great driven Bro. Stay safe and bcool.

oh sweet I need this series, just got an '85 740 GLE
Thinking seriously about an ev conversion, i have a 1993 saturn that was my first car and i recently rebuilt, problem is they don't make parts for it anymore so now it's just sitting in the garage leaking oil.
Didn't see you mention you have to remove the three clips under the door pocket ?
If i was to do this, could i add a oil temp gauge from that sender?
Yes and it'll read oil temp at that part of the cycle which is not optimal but should work. Ideally you read the temp at the bottom of the sump.
Do you have to drain the oil before doing this? Thanks for the helpful video!
No. Just do it with a cold engine to make sure the oil is in the pan + you won't burn yourself.
I loved the Gen 1 Cooper S, great cars if you take car of them and keep well maintained. the new ones now as no way as good in as they are just getting bigger and heavier with all silly display screens the size of a dinner plate. the Gen 3 is fine, i got a Gen 3 this year, gets me to work and back, but nothing like a Cooper S.
Thanks for the ride!
Como se saca la Bomba de aseite volvo 89 740 gl
💯💯
Do you have a trace of a Swedish accent or am I hallucinating?
U r talking about 3 different types of TD04HL turbine housings, not turbine wheels. TD04HL turbine wheels r always the same diameter, inducer/exducer 52/45.6mm. HL designates size of the turbine wheel and proper housing. TD04HL-nn designates size (13-20) of the compressor housing and comp.wheel / impeller. Last marking, in this case T, designates the profile of the compressor wheel / impeller blades. T is the most "aggressive" profile. #7 housing (7cm2) has A/R = 0.49.
Always disconnect the battery before working on fuel lines, Filter, Gastank, etc.
Was This standard turbo ?
Hi, What exhaust do you use one yours? Regards
I still have my 07 GXP. Its still under 100k. Zero problems, very fun to drive. My only issue is I wish there was engine space for upgrades
I have one of these. Getting ready to pull the engine and rebuild it. And yes they were all t-top
Will this also work voor 2.3 lpt
Yes, my understanding is that the main difference between the LPT and HPT is the wastegate spring tension. A manual boost controller should work fine to raise the boost on an LPT car. I am located in America, and they never sold the LPT cars here, so I am speculating.
@@Vehicularious ah yes it the one you have is a normal turbo or smaller one
@@bartwesterink1434 my turbo on this car is a Garrett T25, which was the stock turbo size on the 940 SE.
Where should I start? I just found a 1989 740 NA wagon It is clean and in good shape cosmetically. It cranks very strong but will not run. It has been sitting for 3-4 years I am told. I put in fresh gas. I tried giving it some starter fluid through in intake and it will start for a moment. I can hear the fuel pump when I turn the key. The fuel pump and filter under the car look clean and somewhat new. Where should I start?
Generally speaking, I would recommend confirming whether you have both fuel and spark. An easy way to confirm fuel is if you smell fuel in the air after you crank the engine a few times (typically much of that smell is unburnt fuel in the exhaust). There are obviously more detailed ways to do this, which are found by various mechanics on RUclips. There are a few ways to try and confirm spark. One is to ground out the coil wire in the engine bay, another is to pull one spark plug and attach it to the corresponding plug wire, and just look for spark when cranking the engine. I think that if you search online, specifically for the 240/740/940 cars, you may find additional guides for how to troubleshoot a no-start condition. Good luck!!
My alternator is down there, I don't know if it wil have enough space. Does anyone have experience with that?
Thank goodness there are only four wheels!
Was just sitting here thinking old Saturns might make a good DIY EV platform, and looking at later IONs. I'd love to find a fun project like this. It looks like someone put some pretty serious thought and work in to it, and learned a lot. Sad to see it end up in the yard. Thanks for making a vid of it!
