- In this junkyard video, we stumble upon a 1991 Volvo 940 SE that I have seen before, even prior to it being wrecked. We take a look over the car and see if there are any parts that we want to add to our collection.
Surprised to learn the 940 sedan in the US had independent suspension. The 940 in the UK was sold with a live axle in both sedan and wagon form. The 960 had an independent suspension in both body styles.
This independent suspension was unique to the 760, 940 SE sedan, and 960. The 940 SE was basically a single year vehicle (1991), and was a rebadged 760 that served as a transition into the 960 model. It has the body panels and interior of a 960. It has the stereo and HVAC center stack of a 960. But it has the 2.3 Turbo engine of the 940/740 Turbo.
My 1991 Volvo 940 SE wagon is a little less “weird” in the sense that it has the traditional live axle, like all other 940’s. But when it comes to buying some interior and body parts, I often have better luck pulling from 760 and 960 cars. For example, the relay box is still under the stereo, but it’s turned vertically, and relays are removed by pulling them sideways, into the right side foot well!
Be sure to look very carefully on both the inside and outside of the collector for the exhaust manifold. They almost always crack.
Thanks for the heads up!!
Nice find! As a fellow SE owner finding one in the wild doesn't happen very often.
The 91 SE wagon that I own was found on a city side street by a friend of mine, while he was walking his dog. The car had a for sale sign on it, and I bought it a few days later!
Edit: I also will hopefully be posting a maintenance update video about my SE wagon in a few days!
@Vehicularious Awesome, look forward to seeing it!
I may have wagon tail lights if you need them
I’m good on tail lights for now, I just like buying a set at junkyard prices whenever possible. Thanks!
@@Vehiculariousespecially in these older wagons 👍
