this was a while ago when the games weren't as professionally thought out. nowadays the players are usually on a different stage than the screens. or its on a projector screen more in front of the players

"There are people who cheat in school. There are people who cheat on their relationships... BUT MOST DISTURBINGLY, there are people who cheat in video games!" XD bahahahha
I believe in the early stage of League, in China server, someone found out there is an easy way to use an easy access program to cheat the game. People can have 0 cooldowns on summoner spells like heal that can heal the minions at that time and flash. He contacts Tencent who operate riot server in China because Tencent claimed that whoever find the bugs in the game could get a cash reward. His advice gets ignored and he just publishes his way into the public. Later Tencent gives everyone who did not cheat and suffered from the cheaters a Ryze skin as reward.
The problem with HELPER was that most of its customers were children stealing their parent's credit cards. Of course, the illegal programmers also didn't pay their taxes.
My cousing and his girfriend have entered a Lol competition some years ago in different teams. In the end his girfriend won, and he get half of her part of the prize, so they basically did the same thing as the 3 cheat
I thought Riot stated that not only the 30k, Azubu Frost was also DQ from any prize money from that tournament regardless of the placement result after they got caught. Someone correct me if I am wrong.
Losing a game despite cheating and gaining an extremely unfair advantage must be by far the most embarassing thing that can happen to you in any videogame.
I like to imagine though that azubu frost was the first pro player that figured out that what they do is shown to an audience like "wait wait wait, why is there a big monitor, AND WHY DOES IT SHOW OUR GAME?!? Do people know this??"
THE BEST THING IS WHEN YOU ACTUALLY REMEMBER THE ONES WHERE PRO PLAYERS CHEATED ON STAGE CAUSE YOU'VE BEEN WATCHING IT LIVE! Oh the joy ! I had a laugh , thanks for this.

My favorite event of cheating in Esports is probably that Smash Melee player who started destroying everyone with the worst character in the game, turns out he had invicibility on half moves, knockback multiplied by 3 on powerful attacks and hitboxes widened and animations shortened by 2 or so. The judges took the wii and found it was hacked af (the guy didn't play friendlies with anyone. It can seem normal for league or team games but for smash or other fighting games not playing friendlies isn't very weird. They found the guy S U S and got em) By then he approximately made 10K$
A large chunk of that $250,000 would've gone to sponsors and coaches. Then you split the remaining amount between the players and suddenly the 30k fine is felt
Azubu should have been stripped of the cash prize and have it distributed among the rest of the teams that participated in the tournament, leaving them with 30k to pay for cheating.
Yeah, that ARAM one wasn't cheating. Colluding with intent to cheat would be giving one team all the money to lose. Making it 50/50 doesn't give either team any more or any less reason to play differently. It was an agreement to play the game in a fun way.
I understand why the dig curse game happened. Splitting prize money in first/second is pretty common in local events where everyone is trying to go home as fast as possible or getting kicked out of a venue soon, but why would you do that on a game people can put money on and one on a large stage?

The number 3 slot wasn't because of the agreement to split the winnings. It was because they made an agreement to throw the game to shift standings so one team wasn't going to face the number 1 seed in the first round of the next tournament.
