The next with toast, beans, and mushroom. And so on ad finitum. But you've really got to use a knife to create that kind of magic. The lack of knife here held you back.

The beans have to be eaten after you've taken a bite of hash browns or some toast bread with egg. Sausage is ok to have on its own. The bacon rashers should probably be paired with the egg and had on a bit of toast and then you might want to cleanse your pallet with a scoop of beans. Hash browns aren't a British invention but bubble and squeak has got plenty going on. And yes it originates from India but British curry is strong on its own, though milder than the likes of a Madras. Our pastries are far from bland, just try a Cornish pasty or a steak bake. Sunday dinners are about the only thing bland I can think of that we eat. Compared to Asia, all European cuisine is bland, but France gets praised for its food. As for the bubble and squeak I don't know where that comes from for the Traditional Full English, as Bubble and Squeak is traditionally left overs from a Sunday roast, but more commonly leftovers from Christmas Dinner on boxing day. I would always go for an English breakfast over an American breakfast. Cheese is not needed, but you could always have the other classic English breakfast if you want cheese: Cheese on toast with Worcestershire sauce.

Most Brits would use a knife and fork but we also use them differently to Americans in general. The fork is held what you would think is upside down, i.e. not like a shove, and we use it to "stab" the food, and generally you stab as many different things as possible and with things like the beans you would use the knife to "scrape" them on to the top of the delicious "stabbed" mess you have on the fork. Yum!

Black pudding is generally as an extra, or included in "big breakfasts" on menus, I find it gorgeous mind, but I think most Brits who don't eat it have never actually tasted it, and the only reason they don't scran it is because they know what it's made off... But, when they do brave a try... Overall, they turn.
Also, in some restaurants, you will find black pudding as a starter, usually with bacon stacked up on top of it and smoothered in peppercorn sauce, and yes... It's really good, something I'll automatically go for if it's on a menu.

If you travel as far as Hull you need to try a pattie from a chippy, they are amazing, and come in several varieties, also try the chips with chip spice, it's the norm up there and they might not even ask before putting it on. You might get a patty in London, they're also called savories but I've been to chippies around most of the UK and very few serve them. Also if you can find a chippy that still cooks in beef dripping, the chips are on another level.

You cannot get these in an average cafe. They get their sausages for crappy wholesalers and the bacon is just water logged rubbish.
Hashbrowns are a recent addition to the Full english but are valid.
To have proper British food you need to stay in London to ensure proper quality. That's were 90% of the best restaurants and markets are in the country, I'm from the north and I've lived in Midlands and London. For food quality its way way higher in london as there is more of a restaurant eating out culture plus it has way superior deliveroo uber eats choices so the average Londoner has tried a wider variety of higher quality food and inevitably will have a superior palette.
