I lived there in the early 80's. My dad was stationed with the Marine Corps at Naval Air Station Willow Grove . Your video started at the section of homes where we lived, end unit in front of the playground to be exact. When the NADC Warminster and NAS Willow Grove were shutdown from BRAC these houses were supposed to be handed over to the township to become low income housing but the soil is contaminated as the homes were built on top of NADC's old dump. The buildings that you referred to as possibly being the "headquarters" were actually the public works office and warehouse. It was the shop for Maintenance workers that would provide repairs to the houses as needed. The grass cutting is probably still under a long term contract. I was told the houses were supposed to be demolished but has been delayed because of the contaminated soil, $$$. Can't believe what we military called "housing" looks like that now. Thanks for sharing the video of the old "woods".

Wow man no wayyyyyy. It must be tough for you to watch this video knowing that your old house is sitting decaying and being vandalized. This is one of the reasons I love doing these videos is because I like showing what these abandoned places look like today and to maybe show people who have lived there or been there. Also, I don't know why that house scared me I guess it's because trap house was written haha and the door squeaked and it was dark but either way they are all the same so it didn't matter much. It's so cool to hear this from you thank you!

    • @davidc-l9174

@@TheCanadianBeautyBugPage It was military housing for the now defunct Naval Air Development Center. I grew up in a small borough adjacent to the military property. When NADC closed, all the military folks left, too, and Shenandoah Woods was abandoned. I don’t know why they never did anything with it. It’s surrounded by normal suburban housing neighborhoods and many folks’ backyards about this abandoned neighborhood. It’s weird, still. It’s also Federal property still.

That first house you went into was MY old house, 604 Skyhawk Drive, Warminster. I was stationed as NAS Willow Grove from 2006-2010 and was one of the last 10 people to live in the entire complex. We were actually the last ones to live on Skyhawk Drive. Used to walk through the hole in the fence at the end of the neighborhood to get to the community park, before the basketball courts were there. Used to throw with my dog in the fields behind the house and rip my buddies motorcycle up that back road that goes around. Driveway parties over on Corsair. Man, memories sweet memories. I lived here off Skyhawk drive, the land was polluted from the hangers. That random building you thought was a head courters was actually a little convenient store called, the mini mart. I got into a fight in the parking lot back in 94. If you would have taken a right at the store you would find a back road that led to tick woods. There is also a secret fox hole the led under the fence to hanger 15 near the horse shoe off shyhawk drive. Behind Skyhawk there is also a hill. Go up that hill make a left there is also a passage way to the naval base.

I lived in 1066 fisherking! super disappointed you couldn't get in but couldnt believe my luck that you tried that house!
if anyone explores it, the room upstairs to the right facing the back was mine between 2003-2005ish. I signed the top of my bedroom and closet doors (something I did in every house as a mil kid) I wonder if it's still there.
me and the other kids used the hole in the fence by the park to get on the trail to get to the bigger community park all the time and I can't believe it's still there.
I'm pretty sure it shut down because when we were living in the house even there was a lot of black mold in the walls. it was like that with all the houses.
also the building at the end - I was a kid and didn't know it as anything other than a super small little shop that had some refrigerated stuff, school supplies, and candy (the only thing I went for)

  • @MorpheusOne

I remember hearing about all of this. From what I recall, the homes and many of the buildings in the Willow Grove Air Station were abandoned due to a chemical in a flame-retardant foam used to fight fires on the base. Apparently, ingesting this chemical puts those that get it into their system at a higher statistical likelihood for a myriad of health problems, not the least of which is cancer. It seeped into the soil & water supply and not just on the Base; it did this into the ground surrounding those homes that many people, that worked on the Base, lived in.
Many people that worked on the base for decades have waged & been waging lawsuits against the military, the chemical company that designed the chemical and the foam for some years for their illnesses and the illnesses of members of their families. A lot of people were trying to prevent the Base from closing down before all that shit hit the fan...
Yea, there's no way in hell that they'll save the Base now!

I live about 4 miles from there. As of 07/2023, most of these houses have been torn down, and the rest will be in the months to come. This housing project was used to house the military families assigned to the former Johnsville Naval Air And Development Station, which closed during the Clinton administration due to budget cuts. When the base closed, the houses were abandoned and deemed uninhabitable due to ground water contamination from the chemicals used as fire retardant to foam the runways during practice drills. Initially, all copper and wiring was removed to discourage squatting.

Last comment - what also makes this place different/strangely atmospheric is that the area it is located in is all built up and densely populated, then here is this huge chunk of desolate wasteland right in the middle of it. I think technically its still fed property and I imagine they cut the grass to manage pest control in the adjacent neighborhood/park. All that growth and shit left unchecked would certainly have an ecological effect. Contaminated soil too? forget it. lol
