I was drafted in Thailand, which has HK33 in service, and I can confirm that HK33's mag release button is quite too far to reach with right hand's index finger, and it is quite stiff to the point that it is easier to use right hand's thumb to press it. Also, most of us (draftees) didn't do "HK slap" when reload, but we just did pull charging handle back and down from bolt hold open notch and release it without homing it to forward position.
Please do the guns of half life, they’re quite unique, especially with the auto loaders on the HLA shotgun. Also, the guns of depth, which features underwater combat, would be an interesting change of pace.
The FTC (flip to center) magnifier optic mount is from Unity Tactical, and is sweet. Also, the extended rail section on the Scar 20 is likely modeled after the Kinectic Development Group rail extensions. Having it lower than the monolithic rail allows you to mount lasers out of the way of optics and such.
The hybrid sight setup that allows you to push the magnifier straight down over the rail is the Unity Tactical Flip to Center (FTC) mount. They are pretty awesome
As a gun enthusiast that knows a decent (not a lot) amount about firearms, I feel like Jonathan always says the *perfect* thing to say. I don't know how, but his words are so consumable
Hey Jonathon, Just wanted to let you know that the magnifier set up like that is very much a thing, it's called the FAST™ FTC Aimpoint Magnifier Mount. Just wanted to let you know
The hybrid sight is based on the Unity Tactical Flip to Centre magnifier mount. The real world version only works if your red dot is on a riser so you only get a neck weld.
Most games do wood grain texturing via bump mapping, which is essentially a lighting trick to make things looks more 3D using luminance. If you want the actual geometry to change they could generate a heightmap (texture that describes height values) and generate some sort of tessellation(additional geometry) on it when your holding on to it. This would essentially do what your thinking of and create the wood grain geometry. Issue is it ends up using a lot of performance for something that doesn't look all that much better than bump mapping. Generally flat textures do well with bump mapping, and its not until you look at the contours that your realize the geometry is flat.
Man I would pay lots of money to have any kind of gun education class with this man as my teacher. I wanna go to Royal Firearms museum just for a chance to see him!
only mistake i heard was the first machine gun is not the xm250. it is in fact the mg338 which was looked at to replace the m240 series of weapons and even possible the m2 browning.
14:21 flip-down/up magnifier: Unity Tactical FAST mount comes to mind. Used specifically with a 2.26" height red dot, which is itself set at that height for better passive aiming with night vision. Mounting a red dot that high allows one to see over the magnifier when flipped down and means the magnifier isn't jutting out to the side of the weapon and possibly getting caught or damaged.
"A pane of glass with prevent thermal imaging" Actually that's true in the game. I finally tried out one of the thermal scopes, and I had to break a window to be able to see through it with the sight. It was really cool, actually, lol.
The RAAL is the Sig MG338, big brother of the M250, it’s chambered in 338 Norma Mag, designed to be a man portable LMG with range and anti-material capabilities of the Ma Duece.
Fun fact, in the sniping mission (I can't remember if it's still named all ghillied up or not but the remake of that mission) when you're on the roofs throwing gas in the air vents if you look through the windows in the top of the roof w a thermal scope it doesn't work since thermal won't work through glass
There are a few mounts for magnifiers that let you flip it up and down. Meant for guys running really high risers on their optics for shooting under nods
Jonathan, Unity tactical makes that flip down magnifier, FAB defense also makes one that puts a magnifier below the optic for storage but that one is kinda like an elevator.
The scar handguard extension is real, I think the point it to mount a peq2 box on top so you can manipulate it with a pressure pad or extreme forward grip. the peq2 has its controls laid out in such of a way that it wont be interfered with by the gas block but also doesn't add bulk or snag points to the gun.
The flip down magifier on the SCAR is a real world design. It’s the FAST magnifier mount made by Unity Tactical. It’s a magnifier for a hight mount optic for use with night vision and upright head position.
I like the idea that if the zombie apocalypse were to happen, people would flood to the Royal Armouries and Jonathan would be like a king of the new society.
14:20 the flip to center magnifier and red dot combo has been done in the real world as the UNITY FAST mount which are made to offer a higher cowitness over a absolute co witness often found on other optics and they have come quite popular in the civilian world in the US because of new shooting stances that offer your head to be more upright instead of digging into your stock for a cheekweld everytime you aim in a close range situation like a competition
Love the content and Jonathan is an awesome dude. I wanted to add some information to the rail system post gas block on the SCAR. The lower profile height here is intended as a platform for LAM/PEQ/MAWL devices that would normally interfere with optics or sight profile if mounted on the same plane as the monolithic rail. I have a PEQ-15 on mine for NV IR laser aiming. It sits down out of view and decreases issues you would normally get if you were to side mount those type of devices (as used to be the trend).
The hybrid mount on the scar dmr is based on the unity mount for magnifiers. It stows down instead of off to the side. They're made to work with all of their unity risers which are 2.25" high, except the Eotech riser of course.
there was like a certain FLIR setting i remember some of the USCG aviators i used to work with that they said was sorta like a "low-power" infrared that could kinda see through glass a bit. basically if you think of the light spectrum infrared is a section of that spectrum that sits "below" visible light (less energy/radiation). iirc (i was not an operator of this equipment, just an IT girl that helped maintain some of their training systems) this basically was looking at the lower end of the visible light spectrum and the upper end of infrared simultaneously and so was able to kinda see through glass. just remember tho i am not an expert in this field so i could be misremembering a lot here, i encourage others to look into it if you're interested.
Please Jonathan, made a video on *METAL GEAR SOLID 3* weapons. (Please like the comment so gamespot can finally see it) So many weapons in MGS3 to react and comment on like the Patriot's infinite ammo magazine, the EZ tranq gun, Snake's customized officer M1911A1, Snake whittling the pistol grip to use a knife for CQC, Ocelot's SAA juggling skills, The End's paratrooper tranquilizer Mosin Nagant, the Davey Crockett recoil-less nuclear launcher and Eva's chinese mauser clone. There are so many more other interesting trivias and weapons in MGS3 so please gamespot and Johnathan make a video that isnt just more call of duty or tarkov (as much as I love those series) it just feels stale now revisiting the same games for multiple videos.
The RPK in the game seems to be modeled and textured after some batches of AES-10b (Romanian semi auto RPK clone), imported into the US in the late 2000s. They were made from surplus guns on a new receiver that's been phosphated (similar to the WASR 10/63). The originals were late production (generally 1978-1989) with no mag dimple and squarer looking laminate wood with noticeable nails for reinforcement. The wear on the wood is identical to a bunch of stock sets. The color does look more red/darker on the in-game model, though.
14:42 that optic is based off the US army’s Enhanced Night Vision Goggle-Binocular (ENVG-B) It uses a fusion of different IFF /infrared imaging. The real thing is t an optic but a whole system of goggles… what you see looks like something from tron. It’s insane
I saw a small documentary about that tech it uses AI and other technology to find outlines in the surrounding apperantly it was originally made for fire fighter to be able to see through thick smoke
The Flip-to-Center magnifier (FTC) is made by Unity Tactical, they make various FTC mounts for various Flip-to-side (FTS) magnifiers, namely EOTech, Aimpoint, and Vortex Optics
The flip magnified thermal is a fictionalized Steiner thermal holographic with a magnifier on the unity tactical FTC (flip to center) mount. These are paired with unity risers for aimpoints or eotechs typically to reach a carry handle optic height for ease of passive use with NVG. The ability to flip to center is a secondary benefit of this system.
Hey GameSpot, I would love to see Jonathan Ferguson reacting to the weopons of Enlisted. Enlisted is a hyper realistic WW2 shooter and I think they did one of the greatest jobs at modeling the guns.
The flip up magnifier/ red dot you see at 13:30 is a real magnifier. A manufacturer that comes to mind is Unity Tactical. They don’t make the optics but they do make riser mounts for optics and magnifiers. I personally have one for my EOTECH holographic sight and 5x magnifier. I would recommend this to anyone in me market for a high quality optic mount.
The flip-to-center magnifier was created fairly recently by Unity Tactical. It requires a specific mount or rail riser to pair with standard red dot and holographic sights.
3:35 it's no battlefield but suppression is an effective tactic to keep heads down, especially on larger maps it's a good way to pin people while your team flanks
On the topic of the magnifier flipping down instead of out- they do exist, as of the past few years, one specifically I know of is the unity FAST mount for an aimpoint magnifier, I'm sure other brands offer that type of flip mount aswell. Typically for micro magnifiers.
The magnifier at the end does exist in some capacity sans the thermal capability, that is completely fictional, thermal magnifiers do not exist. The magnifier though is relatively new and is called the Unity FAST Flip-To-Center (FTC) and is made to be used with other risers also made by Unity. Those setups using such furniture (without the thermal) do exist in-game as well. A comment I’d like to add about thermals is that I am so glad they’ve gone for the thermal outline approach you’ve seen recently with the new army ENVG’s (thermal outline as a mode isn’t new at all, we’ve had them since 2006 with PSQ-36’s they’ve just been kept hush hush very well for a good while) as opposed to the previous thermal basic solid modes. The effect is definitely the best seen in any game.
Re Thermal View: Sodium Lime glass specifically is the issue. Plastics/Polymers vary between the exact types. Quite a few also block it, but for example HDPE (Polyethylene) can be used for lenses, as it is largely transparent to some frequencies of IR. It is however rather opaque for visible light (Thats what those white domes on motion detectors are.) Another option would be quartz glass, which is the typical choice for IR transparent glass.
The “flip to center” is made by Unity. It’s for optics that run their FAST riser. Since the main optic is taller, the magnifier can be stowed at the bottom instead of obstructing the peripheral and making the firearm “wider”. As for a thermal magnifier, I’d think that’s just COD logic
on wooden furniture details: there is a thing called normal maps its used in pretty much all modern aaa games to both bloat the game size and add depth to the texture normal maps make textures appear deeper by making the parts of it sort of droop in looking from the side it will still be flat but it now light bounces around, showing the bumps in the newly created deeper textures modeling all of it is still possible but would take more time to texture it and model ends up having more triangles, making it weigh more in terms of model file size
The mount for the optic on the SCAR looks to be based off of the Unity Fast mounts. They mount the optic over 2in off the rail so the magnifier can flip to the center.
Weird thing that Jonathan didn't comment on with the Browning Citori, is that despite chopping off the barrel to the length of the foregrip, they rethreaded the barrels and reinstalled the chokes.
I have a buddy who has a magnifier that deploys vertically, I cant remember the brand, but it requires a Unity high riser with his aimpoint to operate effectively. It is a really smooth transition and much easier than the flip-to-side magnifiers
The hybrid flip down magnifier is a real profit from Unity Tactical! Called the FAST Magnifier mount, it’s touted as being less of a snag hazard compared to a flip to side magnifier.
Re Pseudo-monolithic Upper on the MK-20: That's a vague depiction of a Kinetic MREX or maybe a PWS SRX rail extension, it doesn't really look like either one. The purpose would be mounting a laser module on the top rail and have it flush with the rail of the upper receiver, staying out of the way of an optical sight. This can be customized and represented in Escape From Tarkov.
I would love to see Jonathan take a look at some weapons from the Ghost Recon series. I played a ton of the early games (up through the first Advanced Warfighter) and there were always some interesting weapons. The XM8, OICW, SA80, AN-94, and DP27 all appeared in either Ghost Recon, Ghost Recon 2, or Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter (sometimes more than one!).

The new holo / Magnifier combo is definitely real. It’s based on the Unity mount.
Anxious to see Johnathan taking a look at Darktide. The bolter is glorious...
I hope Jonathan enjoys doing these videos still. I know we all enjoy them but I don’t want him to get tired of them
“We don’t specialize at all in guided missile systems here” *pulls out a guided missile system* his smile when he pulls out the manpad was amazing.
As a gun enthusiast that knows a decent (not a lot) amount about firearms, I feel like Jonathan always says the *perfect* thing to say. I don't know how, but his words are so consumable
Jonathon is the best. He should try Half life 1/ Black Mesa and Half Life 2.
People who are on the firearms design and audio for the guns, must have a really fun job. And really talented people.
Yeah, that hybrid sight setup is a real thing, using an EoTech sight and magnifier and specific mounts. It doesn't have thermal imaging, however
Another one?!
I’m speeding home like when I try rush the Radiation Zone looking for the M13,
To get comfy and watch another masterpiece ❤️
Hey Jonathon, Just wanted to let you know that the magnifier set up like that is very much a thing, it's called the FAST™ FTC Aimpoint Magnifier Mount. Just wanted to let you know
The hybrid sight is based on the Unity Tactical Flip to Centre magnifier mount. The real world version only works if your red dot is on a riser so you only get a neck weld.
BS
Ha, "neck weld"! Thank you.
For the hybrid sight magnifier. It's called a unity mount and they are very useful. Been around for a couple years or so
An AUG being called "a vintage piece" really gave me perspective into how stuck in the past my perception of guns is.
14:21 flip-down/up magnifier:
Unity Tactical FAST mount comes to mind.
I ❤ Jonathan.
The RAAL is the Sig MG338, big brother of the M250, it’s chambered in 338 Norma Mag, designed to be a man portable LMG with range and anti-material capabilities of the Ma Duece.
Basically it's the M240B equivalent to the XM250's replacement of the SAW.
It would be really cool to see Jonathan react to the guns of Receiver 2, the attention to detail in that game is crazy
Fun fact, in the sniping mission (I can't remember if it's still named all ghillied up or not but the remake of that mission) when you're on the roofs throwing gas in the air vents if you look through the windows in the top of the roof w a thermal scope it doesn't work since thermal won't work through glass
I’d love for Jonathan to look at the guns from James Bond nightfire ….. I remember always loving the options in that game as a kid
7:51 what I appreciate most is seeing the scale of these weapons and their components
“This is a vintage piece. As… all of our stuff is. Cause… we’re a museum.”
Protect this man no matter the cost

Dont think it would last very long, not like the museum keeps a large stock of reserve ammo, you'd definitely go there to get guns tho

BS
@@robertsears8323 bro what?
there was like a certain FLIR setting i remember some of the USCG aviators i used to work with that they said was sorta like a "low-power" infrared that could kinda see through glass a bit. basically if you think of the light spectrum infrared is a section of that spectrum that sits "below" visible light (less energy/radiation). iirc (i was not an operator of this equipment, just an IT girl that helped maintain some of their training systems) this basically was looking at the lower end of the visible light spectrum and the upper end of infrared simultaneously and so was able to kinda see through glass.
just remember tho i am not an expert in this field so i could be misremembering a lot here, i encourage others to look into it if you're interested.
Pulling up the rocket launcher like a GOAT firearm's keeper
Please Jonathan, made a video on *METAL GEAR SOLID 3* weapons. (Please like the comment so gamespot can finally see it)
So many weapons in MGS3 to react and comment on like the Patriot's infinite ammo magazine, the EZ tranq gun, Snake's customized officer M1911A1, Snake whittling the pistol grip to use a knife for CQC, Ocelot's SAA juggling skills, The End's paratrooper tranquilizer Mosin Nagant, the Davey Crockett recoil-less nuclear launcher and Eva's chinese mauser clone.
About the hybrid optics, those are real! Unity Tactical makes a FAST mount that stows the magnifier away below your raised optic, they're pretty neat.
Well, peel my tangerines, that HK33, what a rare and beautiful bit of history. Never seen one in that configuration before.
14:42 that optic is based off the US army’s Enhanced Night Vision Goggle-Binocular (ENVG-B)
It uses a fusion of different IFF /infrared imaging.
The hybrid sight on the Scar DMR is really closely modeled to the unity mounts for magnifiers. Took me a while to spot it
I'd love to see him react to Black Ops 2 seeing as that game was considered futuristic but were only like 1 or 2 years away from the setting itself
6.11 good lord that is gorgeous, I pride myself at being an hk connoisseur but I have never seen an hk 33 fitted with an almost m16a1 m203 handguard
It might have been mentioned but the flip up and down magnifier is a real thing. Unity Tactical makes the Flip to Center mount for magnifiers.
Hey GameSpot,
I would love to see Jonathan Ferguson reacting to the weopons of Enlisted. Enlisted is a hyper realistic WW2 shooter and I think they did one of the greatest jobs at modeling the guns.
Another great video, Jonathan! Thank you!
Basically this entire series is me seeing guns i would never think could possibly exist and then jonathon pulling it out of his backpocket
My dad’s poor, poor, Citori… what have you done to it Dave?
3:35 it's no battlefield but suppression is an effective tactic to keep heads down, especially on larger maps it's a good way to pin people while your team flanks
Jonathan has been strangely protected from cursed guns on these MW2 reviews, I fear the next one won't be as nice to him...
This is Jonathan Ferguson, keeper of firearms and artillery and here he is admiring wood.
John: this museum doesn't focus on guided missiles
Also John: But we do have one!
The flip to center optic is a real thing. Unity Tactical makes a magnifier that the thermal sight is clearly based on.
on wooden furniture details: there is a thing called normal maps
its used in pretty much all modern aaa games to both bloat the game size and add depth to the texture
normal maps make textures appear deeper by making the parts of it sort of droop in
looking from the side it will still be flat but it now light bounces around, showing the bumps in the newly created deeper textures
modeling all of it is still possible but would take more time to texture it
and model ends up having more triangles, making it weigh more in terms of model file size
i love to spread misinformation online
The mount for the optic on the SCAR looks to be based off of the Unity Fast mounts.
They mount the optic over 2in off the rail so the magnifier can flip to the center.
as a someone who works with textures instead of modeling the grain we would use a normal map or height map for those details for performance reasons
Small correction here, the raal is not the xm250 but rather the sig mg338
The hybrid sight system where it goes below the optics window is a unity fast mount. It’s not a new system but it’s quite brilliant
UNITY magnifier mount has the feature of magnifier going in vertical position rather than pulling it to the left/right side. CC: Jonathan :)
Thanks for watching you have been shortlisted for our giveaway contest🎁🎁
the flip down to center mount is real, the magnifier mounts made by Unity Tactical are that way
The hybrid flip down magnifier is a real profit from Unity Tactical!
