- This video contains the first in 2021 created scene.
In 2012 I started creating new VFX scenes for Star Trek V. I will now gradually put these online here.
The aim was to design the look, the camera perspectives and the movements in the style of the 80s.
Have fun watching - Кино
I always liked this scene. It's cool to watch Pavel finally gettin his chance to warm the chair and light the afterburners.
The fact that Sulu smiles when he's honest about pulling this maneuver as his first attempt gets me. 😀
I also loved his expression in "Star Trek lV The Voyage Home" when flying the helicopter the windshield wiper came on!
I like your "Emergency Plan B" better!
Thank you for sharing. 🖖
I've always gotten a kick from the shuttle crash landing.
My Dad always loved the emergency net going up, aircraft carrier style.
The shot of the shuttle crashing into the Enterprise really looked kind of odd, but you made up for it with the shot of the Enterprise jumping to warp. I think that's definitely the best shot of this Enterprise jumping to warp yet.
Agreed. It was great. SO much better than the original.
Agreed. The special effects revised... bring this clip into the era of Enterprise ! BUT WAIT ! Why is Scotty still looking at a cathode-ray-tube to start. Must be a fondness for antique technology !
A commendable job. Much better than the original exterior footage.
The original VFX were beautiful. I miss the days when they worked with scale models.
Beautiful. I love it when extra care is taken to make torpedoes look like sparkling glowing gems rather than friggin glowing dots.
Well done HIKE ANIMATION !
I had the STV comic book adaptation. That image of Enterprise warping away from the torpedo could have been lifted from the comic book. Outstanding
Amazing work as ever, but as the Enterprise enters warp her impulse engines are still lit. You likely know this but they usually shut down about a second or two before warp. Really love your work, you make the Constitution class really pop on screen!
Yes, so true this work will make STV to a realy god work. With this sences STV are realy be a perfekt ST movie. He should to make a remasterd of the MOV time.
Unfortunately very rarely in the Trek movie franchise do they ever take this fact into account. Honestly the first time it was even noticeable was in 2009, and I LOVED that detail
This time they get a pass. They were in a hurry to GTFO.
Honestly in starship operations the impulse engines can be left operating during a red alert situation for additional power generation for weapons and shields. Impulse engines are generally shut down before warp only during standard operating conditions. Impulse engines are powered by the fusion generators and drive systems are left energized though not providing thrust during warp. If you go from warp to impulse during combat maneuvers the engines are online and seamlessly provide propulsion, thus not creating a 1-2 second weakness in movement.
Beautiful work, especially on the planets. Jerry Goldsmith earned his pay with ST5.
Much better than original vfx !! 😎👍
Such an improvement!
If I could give 2 thumbs up I would!
Much better 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
I SO want to do a complete fan-edit using this stuff. Great! Tip of the ol' hat to ya.
Awesome, AWESOME JOB! Hike Animation, you guys RULE!!!!
Great work.
Very nice fix. For me, the way the Enterprise warps out to miss the torpedo is the original scene was such an eyesore. This fix is much more believable.
One thing I've always loved about this scene is how the Klingons' equipment makes the sound effect of the Martian heat beam weapon from War of the Worlds!
Oh. As for this version: much better, but I see you have a revised version off in the "upcoming videos" so I'll reserve comment for that one.
So much more logical to have the shuttle lose its engines on the lip rather than the doors
Much better.
But, oh Gods, those 80’s video game graphics on the Enterprise bridge. Don’t know whether to 😆 or 😢.
Great! Awesome and looking forward to the others.
Excellent work! I congratulate you! I do have one recommendation for you, if I may: When you show the scene the second time, it would be helpful to show both versions side-by-side to highlight the high-quality work you have done and make it easier for your viewers to see, acknowledge and understand all of your changes.
While that's a pretty good idea... the scene is long, and it's kinda hard to pay attention to two things at the same time. If the scene were brief... I'd be be making the same recommendation.
@@Seemsayin Good point
I love the 4:57 Enterprise escape in warp.
The best scene in whole movie
Fantastic
Another great scene.
Great work and thanks for sharing!
If I could make just one suggestion on the scene overall (not your work) which has always bothered me. During the crash; just cut the shot at 9:29 where the shuttle is barely moving. And maybe speed up (just a little) when the shuttle hits the cargo net. It will make the whole scene feel much faster and the crash a bit heavier.
I think you did a far better job than the movie. Congrats.
Whoaaaa! That was awesome work on the visuals 😮
Absolutely beautiful!
I'd seen a "behind-the-scenes" video that explained that the gorgeous aztec paint scheme on the large scale Enterprise model had been painted over when the model was used for display in Las Vegas (If I recall correctly), which gave Enterprise its ghostly white look in ST:TFF.
I believe that's actually the reason why the hull became kind of gray in all the movies starting with TWOK. It was kind of a shame because of how very pretty the hull was in TMP.
Thats was cool
Those worlds look awesome. Great job!
That was fantastic work. Only comments are a depth of field on some of the enterprise and bird of prey shots, sub surface scattering on your models and atmosphere on the planets. The lighting looks a little static too but overall an amazing piece.
always love your work! Not nit picking but just a suggestion... You have the BOP's wings raised when she cloaks when Scotty's sensor display shows them fully lowered when she's cloaking. We could assume this is just the computer's generic icon for a BOP though.
Soooo much better than the original from the video. This nailed it!!!
The original shots look a lot better. This is very fake CG.
These are all so much better. I realize there's nothing that can be done about it. But it always bothered me that the shuttlebay is so much smaller than what was shown in ST:TMP. But at least your changes and the editing of existing footage is a big improvement. Can't wait to see what you do with "God".
Klaa showed himself to be without honour in some ways, wanting to kill Kirk on a defenceless shuttle.
👏👏👏👏🔥🖖🏼
Very nice! Yet I would keep the original close up of the shuttle hitting the edge of the landing bay, it's more dramatic. Also, in keeping with the original films, a few more light streaks with going to warp.
wow.. 100% better.. fantastic job
Love the way the shuttle hitting the landing bay lip and shearing off the nacelles looks like it has real impact. It's not just a shearing away with no apparent loss of velocity. Now it hits with a good, solid _whack_ that not only shears off the nacelles but clearly causes an immediate deceleration.
Were it possible to edit what was actually shot, I'd cut from the impact on the bay lip to where the lights go off, and everyone is knocked unconscious. After that, the shuttle could hit the barricades with everyone already out.
That impact on the bay lip looks like it could really cause problems. As released, the shuttle is so slow by the time it hits the barricade that it've never thought that impact would be a problem.
That whack on the lip and nacelles shearing off ... now _that_ would be problematic for passengers.
Despite the initial cheap FX, I still enjoyed “The Final Frontier” but it could do for a new “Director’s Cut” with Wm. Shatner and Hike Animation. 👍🏽
Some minor problems that I noticed in the video and that could be "better adjusted" don't stop me from thinking that this "new version" is really excellent...!! However, I really miss a better "Warp Effect", Star Trek II or TMP style.
2 things: The guy playing the human ambassador also played the the Cardasian that interrogated Picard and 2. does anyone else hear Jerk Off every time Scotty says Chekov? Just saying...
Great work 🖖🏻
I'll never understand why the shuttle is going in reverse on the Klingon's weapons HUD. Were the SFX guys that out of their depth (probably) or just forgot?
nice work!
Amazing work as ever. I wish Paramount would have hire you to fix up all 6 movies SFX as well as all the TOS episodes SFX!
However if I may, there is one small mistake in your clip. Just as the Enterprise went into warp, the Klingon Photon torpedo was supebly close to the wake of the Enterprise warp effect. Wouldn't the warp drive such the photon torpedo gets suck into the warp field as well?
similar to star trek balance of terror where the enterprise was dragging the romulan plasma torpedo
Awesome…. They’re should update the old version to the new version
Ahhhh.... Klingon Captain "Pennywise".
i always laughed when the klingon commander said kirk was good when they warped away. lol this klingon is lucky he never faced a prime TOS era kirk. would've gotten his ass kicked 7 ways to sundwon.
I always wondered why the Starfleet shuttle showed on the screen as a Klingon symbol...
Certainly much better than the original. But where I may add some criticism, you had me all the way up until the shuttle accelerated toward the enterprise, which didn’t seem much of an acceleration, and when the shuttle struck the enterprise bay, I just couldn’t buy that.
If only they would redo the movie this way. Then fix the turbo shaft and barrier mistakes. But alas they prefer it crappy
AWESOME! You are the master. Do you work in the SFX industry? You should.
So much better than the original. Too bad CGI can’t fix a bad script and even worse directing…
The bird of prey appeared to be on the side of the enterprise not behind it.
The shadow of the moons is really distracting. They switch sides and flip orientations. The Enterprise was going retrograde inn the first scene, but in the second scene they are going the opposite direction in orbit. That's a 180° phase change and rather expensive. It also doesn't jive with landing, which works probably have been inn the normal orientation. It's also a bit distracting to have conjunctions of the moon(s) in every shot from at Earth and now here. Sorry to be so critical. The renders are beautiful, but kinda distracting with the direction.
Also, the Bird of Prey attacks from the moons, so the Enterprise should be facing the Klingons.
You're right. There are a few inconsistencies with the shadows, but I needed the light from the top right for the close-up of the Enterprise. In the first scene of the BoP the light is as before. In the shuttle's crash scene, the moon couldn't actually be seen from that angle. Ok that could be changed. The attack by the Klingons is very easy to explain, the Enterprise makes a 180 ° turn in the off and then goes to warp ;-) Thank you for your criticism, you really looked carefully.
Superb improvement! Makes the original scene look quite amateur.
There's an issue with the shot of the shuttle hitting the deck of the enterprise. It's jarring and the initial jerking doesn't seem natural. Other than that congrats, this is a huge improvement.
The shuttle bay always looked far too small in the film.
Somebody got their feet and inches wrong
Better
it was really sad that the company that did the fx for V did such a HORRIBLE job. Shatner mentioned it in his book about the making of the movie. but this is a MAJOR improvement over the original
shuttle animation was bad in both - enterprise warping away is better though in the second one
10000% better than the shit studio that was used
First.
Original is far superior.
They should have hired you … yours are vastly better
Almost forgotten how terrible this film was.
Original is better.
Don't like it
