    One could argue that Vintage and Modern Pokémon are two distinct "collecting categories". In my mind, Modern either starts in B&W or XY. I cant speak to B&W, but XY is going completely bananas. Sun and Moon is going bananas.... XY booster boxes, collection boxes and the full art PSA 10's are breaking all previous records. So if you split Vintage and Modern into 2 collection categories, Rinkor's definition of a run holds. The same is happening in Magic, and has been for a while, where Modern Magic is absolutely in a boom, while vintage is in a serious downturn. Great video! Thank you for that insight you discovered from Rinkor.

      I think you’re on to something here Corey!
      I would still prefer to see all vintage and modern booming, but it’s true that many older, but maybe not “vintage” products are doing really well.
      And when theorems this much excitement entering Pokemon I don’t think it really matters that the traditional vintage products aren’t booming 🫡
      I do like this 97/98 Pika trophy cards though 😅

      @@tcgbuyersclub I did a few edits to my post so I hope you saw the version where I thanked you for your insight. I agree with what you said about wanting to see modern and vintage booming. It could be that vintage is too GD expensive as if it already had its boom and its lifecycle is over. Anyway, lets talk about the real question on everyone's mind.....Where is Captain Zack?

    Personally I think there’s for certain been a shift in vintage, just not WOTC vintage; look at almost any ex era set and their cards have become infinitely more expensive and difficult to find, at least for top chases (gold stars, ex’s, etc). The simple fact of the matter I think is that most newer collectors just don’t find the original WOTC stuff all that interesting.

    • @tcgbuyersclub
      @tcgbuyersclub  2 месяца назад +1

      Yeah, I know Gold Star cards and some other more vintage cards are seeing big movements. It’s just interesting to compare the current market with the pandemic boom and see how the tastes of collectors have shifted.
      It’s especially interesting to me that the pop reports seem to be less important this time around, when that is one of the single most important variables according to a lot of traditional collecting theories.
      Thanks so much for watching and commenting 😊

      As a returner to the hobby (24-year hiatus), I can definitely see why newer collectors may not be so interested in the older "original" sets.
      Looking at the art alone, from what I've seen from alt art, IR, and SIR cards, I can see why vintage is being left behind in this new market.
      Vintage does have its place for the collector, but even for me I'm less interested in filling in the holes in my original Base/Jungle/Fossil sets as I am to collect the newer arts.

    • @tcgbuyersclub
      @tcgbuyersclub  2 месяца назад +1

      I totally agree with you! When the 2020 boom happened, the Sword & Shield alt arts hadn’t even happened! Although there were some banger alt arts and “Trainer Rare” cards from the end of Sun & Moon, it really felt like there wasn’t all that much to be excited about in modern.
      But, that changed quickly and, now, it’s a great point that the quality of modern makes it hard to love vintage cards.
      Thanks for watching and for the comment!

    I gotta wonder though, if sets get reprinted a lot, does that mean even 10 years from now, the value of a card won't go that high since there could be many people trying to cash in at once?
    Like with vintage cards those are harder to come by since they weren't as mass produced and there's very few that are in mint condition since many people were kids who didn't think too much about the value they would get, so it makes sense these get super valuable but I wonder about modern ultra rares like Moonbreon... sure it's expensive now, but will it really climb up in 10 years?

    • @tcgbuyersclub
      @tcgbuyersclub  Месяц назад

      I’ve struggled with this question a lot too, and I think it’s one of the great questions of modern Pokemon!
      I think the short answer is that the higher the supply of the card the lower its price potential in the future.
      But I don’t think that means the price won’t go up, and the Moonbreon shows us that (for now anyway)…
      My latest newsletter article actually goes into why I think that, and my next video will be based on this as well!! You can read it here:

    Vintage any cardboard always has its fans die off and plus the cost takes away the other investors. Pokemon will be there soon as well just need couple more decades.

  • @coreymackxs

    You know, I've always had a suspicion that the release of 151 was the Pokémon company signaling that vintage is being retired. Including the early Gen Pokémon. Not that the early gen Pokémon will ever go away, but they seem to be pushing exceptionally hard to get on with new ones like Roaring Moon, Raging Bolt and especially Terapagos. I really dont get what they are doing with Terapagos.

    • @tcgbuyersclub
      @tcgbuyersclub  2 месяца назад

      Oh man, that’s a very interesting take! I personally took 151 as a way of capturing the potential collectors who still have nostalgia for the early WOTC days, but maybe there’s more to it!!

    Just like stocks, I buy whatever everybody else is not buying because eventually just like everything else. What’s not popular now will eventually be popular I’ll stick to buying vintage and then whether it’s six months or one year or two years everyone will go back to vintage and say oh my God you were getting all those cards for $100. I just paid $600 for XYZ because I was following the hype because everybody wants modern right now Just like stocks I buy the ones that people don’t buy until everybody wants it. 😅 be greedy when others are fearful and fearful when others are greedy.

    Yea why isn’t the 300k pikachu trophy card not shooting up? It’s almost like there is a cap for these cards that people are willing to pay and it was reached during the pandemic. And it’s almost like there are less and less people willing to pay those prices for these cards the more years that pass, the older people get and the less people that even know about it are still alive or caring. Are vintage baseball cards shooting up in price ? I genuinely don’t know.

      I agree there’s far more demand for modern right now, and, I’m mainly a modern collector! It’s just that my love of collecting Pokemon has me researching other collectibles markets and then investing theory behind it, and it’s interesting to observe how the Pokemon market is behaving relative to those other expectations.

    everyone whos buying cards close to 1k modern in a pop 15k with hundreds of thousands of sealed left are absolutely burning their cash, imagine they gonna release more and better alt art for the next 10-20 years lol , its gonna be diluted to the absolute ground, monbreon will reach pop 30k by 2035, wilol have like 10 newer comepitor with it (just the new moonbreon /sunbreon w/e will prob dillute it alot, in the end its gonna be tens of millions of psa10 alt art XD
    ill stick to my skyridge holo zard psa 10 pop 200

    your 2 exemples are products over 200k lol... maybe there just not that many very high end collectors... but the vintage is not wanted is just hillarous to me when u have psa 8 10x more valued than the biggest modern grail in a psa10,
    peoples really seem to not understand the difference between out of reach and does no want it... the ammount of times i heard about 1st ed zard ''thats my dream card and those were all in modern i mean they just dont have that reach at all...
    i was buying not even 10 years ago base set zards for literally 8-10$ nm- mint..... thats now what 500? u realize they went extremly bullish and ofc will take more time for them to go to another boom. the gains allready was made...

      Thanks for watching 😊 I’m just trying to apply this more traditional collectibles investing guidance to the modern Pokemon market. I honestly have no idea who can afford those cards, but it’s worth noting they they are definitely the masterpiece tier options in Pokemon and they are not moving in the way described by Mr. Rinker.
      Pokemon is a different kind of beast and I’m just trying to make sense of it all 🫡
