959 subs.... SOOOO CLOSE! I really like the way to present info and your story-telling. I assume you heavily script pre-recording, yeah? How long does it usually take you to make one of these videos?
I do spend a lot of time writing and scripting before actually shooting and it takes a long time. It’s hard to say how much, but I wake up early to spend 1.5 - 2 hours writing before work each day, which is really just to explore my thoughts and test ideas. The stuff that I like then gets turned into a script which is faster because of the pre-work but still takes me another couple hours. Editing is another few hours as well 😅 But I love doing it and am glad it’s resonating with people! Thanks again for all the support!
@@tcgbuyersclub That's like a part-time job, haha! The effort shows, and just wanted to shout-out all the hard work you put into these videos for us. Respect!
The price for the Japanese version is as low as it’s ever been so I do think it’s a good time. That being said, if there are substantially more reprints over the coming months it will get even cheaper! We can’t say for sure. But, over time, most purchases at market low points look smart 5 years later, so I wouldn’t sweat the details too much if you like the card. Thanks for watching!
Great video… Just subscribed. I’m at 100 151 JP booster boxes and after reaching that goal now I’m trying to double my position. Hopefully in 5 years it pays off.
Is this not what’s wrong with the hobby? People who just hoard boxes so they can try to price lock the boxes and want others “to empty their pockets” like you said in the video. Now the people in the future who are just starting to collect cant open 151 or the children of today aren’t able to afford boxes. Idk this just doesn’t sit right with me
Thanks for watching! I think modern collectibles markets have a number of very complex dynamics, and I personally believe the participation of players, collectors and investors is important to the health and maintenance of the market. I’m not sure I can make a clear case for why I believe that yet though - it’s something I’m still clarifying in my own mind. One element of it that’s clear to me is that after enough time has passed, the chase cards and sealed products need to increase in value. I don’t believe anyone wants to buy cards today, only to have them be worth the same or less a couple years later: we buy them today so we don’t have to pay more in the future. And investors play a part in that! I know not everyone agrees with me and I’m not throwing any hate or shade, just wanted to share my thoughts. Thanks again for watching 🙏
Another banger. Love the G trends and conclusion, I think the popularity for the raw Japanese singles is still very strong even if modern sealed is available at MSRP. The Japanese raw AR/CHR prices are currently way more affordable than their English counterparts!
I love these videos, as someone who is looking to get into investing in sealed products, informational videos like this are great! Keep up the hard work, and love the video qualities!
Ive always loved the japanese cards. My first introduction was a jungle pack from japan, a gift from a family friend. Mind blown. Maybe 6 months later i heard kids talking about it, shocked and asked how they knew about it. They told me there was a show, and bam, caught the fever 😂 our first japanese cards were some of my favorites. Came across the old cards while cleaning less than a month ago. I looked up prices, wondering if itd be worth selling our extras, and was shocked at how "cheap" they were. Not only "cheap", but for whatever psychotic reason, the japanese cards were even cheaper. Lost my shit and immediately got back into the hobby and spent way too much money 😂 i decided i wanted to have a complete og set in japanese, and hopefully one in english too. Let me tell you, it was a surreal experience to buy a minty holo jolteon in japanese for the same price as a pack of cigarettes. Hotdamn....put things in a very strange perspective lol But the first new set i keyed in on? 151 ofc. And yes, i had to buy a box in japanese 😂 im planning on opening it, got it a few days ago, but im going to try to finish cleaning and sleeving our old cards first. Im only up to sandslash dammit 😂 i cannot understand why japanese cards are generally so much cheaper. Aside from playing the game itself, ofc, but it doesnt quite make sense to me. But im sure as heck not complaining. And i suspect that wont stay true for very long
There’s great value in vintage Japanese cards! I also started an OG Japanese set but didn’t get too far assembling it - maybe I should get started again while the prices are where they are!!
Japanese 151 won’t recover for a very very long time. More reprints in July + there will very likely be more reprints after that. Japanese sets are typically printed to demand and if all the demand is filled than prices will stay very low.
I just went to Tokyo two weeks ago and it was still very difficult to get a sealed 151 booster box at card shops. Pokémon Center is still selling the set in spare packs, limited to 40 packs per person and they runs out quickly. Unless Pokémon Center starts selling this set in an unopened booster box like the other sets (but the plastic wrap will be removed when purchased to avoid scalpers reselling), the price will still be above MSRP in the overseas market.
The market hasn't crashed, Japanese booster boxes have always been 5000 yen MSRP, people were just being ripped off before. Prices of Dream League, Tag Bolt, Blue Sky Stream, Miracle Twin, Remix Bout haven't budged and those sets are all up 8-20x in 5 years. Enjoying your videos, have subbed. Cheers from New Zealand.
Thanks for the comment and sub! I 100% agree it’s a return to normal for Japanese booster box prices, but it is certainly a crash for anyone who was buying over the past year! Thanks again for the support 🙏
The market can still crash AND return to normal prices. Both are true. The frustrating part to me is the reprint of 2 yr old sets like lost abyss. Crushed the value of my singles/slabs from those “old” modern sets. That honestly pisses me off. None of the sets released in the last year or so bug me being reprinted. In fact I think that’s great. But when you market is down to them go back to older sets and reprint them that starts to destroy collector and investor confidence and will likely stall the Japanese market’s gain for quite a long time. It’s a real real real bad time to be flipping Japanese cards. Like horrendously bad.
@@MrGuitarfreak132For someone who Missed Lost Abyss from retail price, The reprint is great news, And If you are in the long term hold, This will make more people appreciate the set and then years after more people will have nostalgia over it, Driving the price even more.
@MrGuitarfreak132 I know what you mean. Before the reprint of the late SwSh era sets was announced, I would have told you my fav part about the Japanese market is how respectful they are to their collectors by being predictable with reprints and not wrecking the market. In my time collecting, I’ve seen the English market do that several times, but in Japan they seemed to have a better understanding of the long-term implications. I’m hoping the reprint of the SwSh sets is a one-off and they won’t be continuing, but I’m more skeptical going forward. Thanks for watching and for the comment 🙏
@@tcgbuyersclubI agree I had much higher faith in Pokemon Japan before these were announced. I’m honestly wondering if I want to still bother collecting or investing Japanese. The amount of value I’ve lost in Japanese is staggering. The boxes will probably still do ok longterm although I think it will take much longer now. But I’m not sure what to think about singles. That market may never recover. And I’m not sure I want to bother with it if they are just going to crush the value of any high value Japanese cards I buy. If they reprint Eevee heroes I will for sure be completely done collecting modern Japanese. But I may be mostly done anyways. As much as I love the quality having your cards printed to death is hard to watch.
People r trying to force the price up I noticed but it's gonna bite them because from why I've seen heard sales are low and people just stuck holding stock
I feel like all last year everyone was saying japanese singles were worth more than english because japanese is higher quiality and better qc. But this year I see everyone saying english singles are worth more than japanese because its harder to get a good grade because of shitty qc on the english side. I personally prefer japanese because I'm buying the card for the artwork and not to read the words. Japanese definitely has way better quality on the holos and every other aspect of the card. I'm sure once the yen recovers japanese cards will start to match english prices.
The quality on Japanese cards is truly special - I couldn’t agree more! It is interesting that poor print quality can absolutely be a boost to a set’s price. I think we’ve seen that play out with Evolutions where the Charizard is really hard to grade, leading to a premium on PSA 10s that helps people justify paying more for a booster box because they think they might find a PSA 10 Zard. As someone who pulled a pack-fresh Zard from Evolutions, I can tell ya: the printing is garbage and you’re not gonna get a 10 😂 I’ve been planning to investigate this phenomenon more, it’s really interesting 😊 Thanks so much for watching and for the comment!
I agree 😊 The new supply shocks the market and causes a reset on prices, but these are great sets with lots of demand, so it’s inevitable the prices start to rise again once the reprints stop 🙏 Thanks for watching!
There’s a balance I think the Pokémon Company should strive to maintain. Historically, I don’t think the English business does this, but the Japanese business generally has, at least before these recent reprints. The balance is: producing enough to make it reasonable to get your hands on it during the 6 months to a year following release. But beyond that: honouring the collectors who bought by not tanking the value of their collections with reprints. I think this was really well done with Celebrations, which was heavily printed and widely available for reasonable prices, but had a clearly communicated end date. That model should be followed more often in my opinion.
