I agree. Since I created this video the market has shifted toward buying what you can of any new top-tier set. There’s always the question of long-term reprints (like, will this end up being a Shining Fates…) but most likely if you can find this set close to MSRP it will be a great buy. Thanks for watching!!
I agree with this, and a possible comparison is like buying a hot stock right after the IPO when it’s available for public trade on the market. Once the hype has settled, I agree: get in and hold! Thanks for watching 😊
Well you CAN time the market if there are obvious trends though. If you don't sell when a market is about to crash and you don't buy when the market is way down, then ok, just buy and hold forever.
I think a strength of the Pokémon market is that it is nowhere near as sophisticated as the stock market, so it is more predictable. By understanding the behaviours the average collector makes because of human psychology, you can anticipate more market behaviour. There are no guarantees but I believe an experienced collector can make more right calls than wrong!

If the last boom taught me anything though: it’s a lot trickier to know what to do when the pre-orders start exceeding MSRP. You quickly start playing a short-term flipping game which some folks love, but I do not. Haha yeah 😅The caveat to this is that supply needs to satisfy demand. During that pandemic boom, that didn’t happen for some products 😭 Interestingly, most products from that era did get the supply they needed! The other Celebrations products were fine after a couple months. I got lucky and scored a Celebrations UPC for MSRP on the Pokémon Center 😛 Thanks for watching bud!
Well if you can get them at preorder sub 100$ I think what you're saying is very wrong. Probably they won't come back down to that price except if they're a total flop, just look at tef or twm. Why miss out on these sets just because your capital will be tied up for 2+ years?
I agree with you, and my video didn’t do a good job of explaining how the concept applies under these circumstances. There’s is absolutely a price point where you can feel confident buying regardless of how close to the launch it is! I promise I’ll be updating this framework to be better 😊 Thanks for watching!
Best way to make money is to sell them as a card store or online due to getting business discount to buy then when they first come out even if the buyers sell for future profit you still made yours and also make more if you keep them to sell later.
Got a feeling that 2025 is going to see a lot of hype and prices will stay elevated. I preorder a couple BB's of each new set for around $100 for long term storage or sometimes to open if my kids are interested. Once the SV reprints start this fall there should be some great deals, but it will be surprising if BB's go below $90 unless the market is completely flooded.
I agree with you! I think demand is still very high, but Pokémon has generally been able to print enough to meet it. With the exciting new sets planned for the next year, we could certainly see demand tick up even higher! I think once you see those $90 booster boxes you’re probably safely in that Abundance Blindness zone 💪 Thanks for watching!
True on most sets, but not all - Hidden Fates, Team Up and Evolving Skies were lowest at the first hype phase. If it will get a real banger, then you have to think if you want to take the risk on not buying it early.
This is true! The effect I describe assumes that Pokémon eventually reprints enough to meet supply but they haven’t always done this. The model I shared should be updated to include these considerations. Thanks for watching!! 🙏
I mean I agree with most of the points you laid out but if you can get in at 95 per box why should you wait. These last few boxes haven't dropped below that and this set looks like it has the potential be a much better set. I personally think this box doesn't drop under that price unless they print to oblivion but with all the reprint talk and all the upcoming sets I don't think they can physically print that much. This might be one of those exceptions and it might not but I doubt a set this hyped drops lower than what current sv base or obsidian.
I agree with you: if a box hits that low-price threshold you don’t have to worry much. Perhaps the model needs to evolve to better explain that! The main point is recognizing the risks with prices at release, and the high reprint chance for popular and overpriced sets that haven’t yet seen enough supply to push the product towards that market low price. But, once the price is there, you don’t need to stress so much and and should feel pretty safe with a purchase. Thanks for watching!
Yeah, that was a shame, but “Rocket’s” Pokemon aren’t necessarily different. If what you’re excited for are the return of more sinister Pokemon I think we’re going to get it! My guess is they want to keep the Team Rocket set in line with the return of Trainer’s Pokemon, so going with Team Rocket’s Pokemon does that. We’ll have to see what they reveal over the coming months 😊 Anyway, thanks for watching!!
Solid advice, though as a tcg player as well as a collector it's impossible not to fall into that trap lol. Gotta get those new cards and stay ahead of the curve.

You want to buy booster boxes between $90-$100. It won’t really go below that at any point. It is only up from there. Pokémon Center ETBs at retail are good too because they will sell out fast and in most cases are never restocked. Even future print waves do not come with PC ETBs.
Yeah, this! If I can get it under $100 at launch why wouldn’t I? It rarely drops below 90 and almost never goes below 80. Buy it sub $100 at launch? Ok! Especially for a good set!

Thanks for watching 😊 I agree it can be tricky to time it perfectly. What I hoped to accomplish with this framework is to provide a simpler understanding of what to expect when a new set releases so you can fight against the FOMO and find a better opportunity to buy. I’m a long-term holder as well and agree in the end small improvements in price doesn’t really matter 😊
I think this is the move. A big part of my video is the idea that, in many cases, you can spot these relative low points and choose to buy when you do. You’re not gonna guarantee the actual bottom, but there’s a point where it’s kind of obvious the price is good, and you should feel confident buying 😊

Please be quiet! You make money after 15 years not the “Cut and shut” operations you’re talking about. What’s the matter can’t you afford Bitcoin? 🤣
I don’t understand your comment but thanks for watching 😊

I knew Pokemon 151 is a trash set just like Pokemon Go set. Thank God I didn’t buy any of it. Still buying sword and shield sets
Lmao
I disagree but thanks for watching!
pogo set would have been better if the code cards from it did not expire..
@@basillah7650 oh that’s interesting, I didn’t know they expired! What an awful idea 😅
no bad video but you do realise that guessing the bottom of a price is dangerous game? getting a 30% off from price ios good but really is not massive for long term holders whne price only goes up
Thanks for watching 😊 I agree it can be tricky to time it perfectly. What I hoped to accomplish with this framework is to provide a simpler understanding of what to expect when a new set releases so you can fight against the FOMO and find a better opportunity to buy.
I’m a long-term holder as well and agree in the end small improvements in price doesn’t really matter 😊
Agreed. if you are serious about getting a set play it like stocks. It drops under msrp buy it. Drops more buy it
I think this is the move. A big part of my video is the idea that, in many cases, you can spot these relative low points and choose to buy when you do. You’re not gonna guarantee the actual bottom, but there’s a point where it’s kind of obvious the price is good, and you should feel confident buying 😊
