Raindrops are falling on my head
And just like the guy whose feet are too big for his bed
Nothing seems to fit
Those raindrops are falling on my head, they keep falling
I think for the initial implementation, iRacing nailed rain overall. I think brake lights need to shine through the spray better, there needs to be a hanging mist above areas a large wet area cars have recently driven through for more accuracy overall, but the development of puddles, the requirement to drive different lines and the overall experience is the most accurate of any sim to date. Does it need tweaking to be just right? Yes. Is it a GREAT foundation to build on and evolve in the future 100%. I'd give it a solid B+ A- where it sits right now for a grade. Especially when you consider that the extra workload on PC's is actually quite minimal for everything they've implemented here. I'm more than satisfied with this initial phase of rain in iRacing.
I agree, and I think you kind of answered your own comment about the graphics. Hanging spray would be very graphically taxing. They could add it to the particle effects, but then people would have the option to turn it down or off, which would give better visibility to those not using it. Or they could make it less physics-based and just add a general effect where that mist is most likely on the track. But I don't see them doing that. I'm sure it will come as hardware improves, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was an intentional decision to leave it out for now. The same goes for the windshield effects. If they make it more detailed, it hurts those with lower end hardware, and if they make it optional, it makes the playing field uneven.
As the game is heavily multiplayer perhaps the quantity of rain drops in the cockpit view is a deliberate choice to balance the visibility across players in a session. So players with better GPUs are not at a disadvantage or motivated to turn their settings down and we end up with nobody running the rain effects.
I don't understand the realistic weather..
Most of the time my radar screen doesn't work and when it does I know for sure it rains in that session.
They need to fix that.
I’ve been racing a lot different tracks in the rain and haven’t had any crash issues. This is the first I’ve heard any mention of it. Maybe a Daytona specific issue?
Nope, happens to multiple people, big thread about this on the Iracing forum. Track or car doesn't matter, so far it happens randomly.
Maybe Hardware specific problems?
Multiple cpu and gpu vendors
We definitely learned the hard way about staying on the rain line - when the rain started I barely touched the curb at Bus Stop and instant wall.
Pretty sweet livery if I must say so ;) Thank you and Craig for running and for part repping 4XR on this scale
Weird, I'm in VR and I didn't change my settings at all and saw 0 performance impact. There are a few options that are definitely for replays and if you choose to use it during a game, that's on the user.
the 50% frame drop is just complete BS.
Yeah I didn't notice a significant drop.either. Whoever felt a 50% drop doesn't have his pc set up.right...
Same here. No discernible change to fps or overall performance. I only get around 40 fps anyway, though that’s with everything at max.
I don't think the crashes is a rain specific issue. People have been having random crashes since the 24s1 update. This is after they did the graphics update which required everyone to run auto config again, so I think it's a general graphics related issue. I've never had a game crash in 3+ years until 24s1 and since then I had 1 at Watkins Glen and 2 during the D24.
Iracing really needs to address this. The reason I dumped rf2 is because of the instability.
Agreed, I was unfortunate enough to have a crash on the last lap of the Bathurst 12hour a few weeks back on the last lap of the race!
@@alexshahabi5635Ouch! That must have been devastating.
I dont have performance issues as mentioned in the video. Using 3x 2k monitors 32inch, RTX 4080 super, intel i9 12900KF. With 30 cars ahead in the rain (huge spray, you cant see anything basically) FPS dropped by just 10% at almost maxed out details.
Well, with those PC components it bloody well should not experience any drop! 😂 For me, a mere PC peasant, I experience huge drops: 120fps to 60 at best.
Yep, got a crash to desktop 5 minutes after my first race in the rain, never had that happen in all the years I use Iracing. Support is aware and working on it, obviously hard to pinpoint what causes this since it seems to happen completely random.
About your fps drop - that's also weird. I hardly had a performance hit, I kept a stable 90fps on my I9 2080S + G2 Reverb, full race in heavy rain, only some small dips to 80fps in some extreme situations. Others also noticed there was almost no performance hit at all.
Then others with much better systems have a 40-50% fps drop. It seems like the rain itself it not so taxing, on my system FAR less taxing than rain in AC or AMS2, but something weird is going on here.
But it's just released, knowing Iracing they'll patch the issues soon. Most important - the racing in the rain is freaking awesome. First time it feels like actually driving on a wet track instead of just a slippery track.
yeah, the FPS can be managed, its the crashes that are a problem atm
50% frame drop? no shot.
I hardly noticed a difference... 50% is ridiculous
They've fleshed out their graphics developers prior to the production phase of the rain update, so I would expect them to refactor parts of the engine. For such a MASSIVE update like this, I'm surprised how little is broken. Given ya know how Daytona and Lemans typically go over the years.
I think the drop size is fine. Many racers said thow the windshield looks is exactly like in real life, without a car in front even heavy rain doesnt really obscure the vision. Some other title actually take it too far with the drop density, etc, as its not the case in real life.
Heavily disareed with your points about performance, sure rain is a slight hit on performance on some systems, personally, my FPS stayed in exactly the same place +/- 5, but for a majority of people, it makes no noticeable difference, and calling iRacing not well optimised to me is hilarious. It's graphics are old and they don't look great on lower settings, but you can literally run it on a potato, even with rain if you turn the settings down. VR performance especially is by far the best of any game considering the amount going on, ACC, the dirt games or RF2 aren't even in the same league. Not really sure what gave you this impression, iRacing is generally really strong on optimisation, and I'm sure any current issues will get fixed. Haven't heard much about random crashes, but there have been some issues in W13, especially earlier on when the servers were running at their limit, but it seems to not be an issue for a majority of users.
IMO iRacing got the graphics near perfect (still never mistake it for IRL like some sims). The puddles, drying lines, sheen when the sun comes back out, and spray were all perfect when compared to all the onboard footage I've seen. The lack of large blotches of water on the windshield not building up accurately I only noticed it after you and Emree mentioned it.
Not having iRacing & personally trying it the rain, I've gone by comments of streamers & all of their remarks seem pretty damn accurate for how cars respond to the wet track, curbs, etc. The only slight is I wouldn't trust the actual water on a track to behave exactly like the sim, but like all other things w/ sim racing it's a good place to start to figure out what lines to drive, etc when it's SOOOO much harder to test it IRL (convenience, travel difficulty, staffing the team, costs, etc).
Considering all the other stuff iRacing got right, the water buildup is a lapse I will gladly overlook.
I think the future is not far away that in at least one sim (prob not all in the same sim) there is everything you might want to test/ get experience w/ B4 spending many thousands of dollars doing it IRL😁😇
Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I imagine the crashes are due to the increased amount of info that needs to be transferred between drivers and the servers. That it happens most often when rain starts and when the track is drying adds weight to that hypothesis. Those are the times when the track is changing the most every time a car goes around. Those changes need to be sent to the server and back out to the other drivers. I wonder if it's a client side issue, where it's happening to people with less than stellar internet connections, or a server issue, like maybe they run into memory issues in longer races with larger grids. I hope it's the latter, because that's something they can fix on their end. I'm lucky to have stupid fast internet in my area, but others don't have the option even if they can afford to bump up their service.
If you run the graphics configuration again, and put the graphics back as high as you had it before, your performance will be much better. I have no idea why but it made my game run 120fps locked in the rain
The spray still seems too much when the track looks dry
having driven real race cars in the rain it’s very accurate, you look at the track and think it isn’t too bad and as soon as you are behind someone you think it must be flooded but the conditions haven’t changed
Very little change in FPS for me. Still hitting over 160 FPS compared to pre-rain implementation.
Have to say when it comes to Graphics optimisation and load times, there is one sim thats worse. LMU :P
I think for the crashes, the best bet is to get in contact with iRacing support and send them logs and as much info so they can have more knowledge about the issue and find a fix, if possible, quickly. I haven't had a crash yet, but haven't ran much either, but as of now, this update is GREAT!!!
Nothign to worry yet since its still week 13 and tweaks are expected. They wont ignore people crashing into desktop...
I haven't tried it but I fear than the RNG is going to make me skip all sessions that will have rain
I haven’t drove a gtp in the rain yet, but every race I’ve done the lmp2 is faster in full wet conditions.
It blew my mind, tempest is amazing.
dude i have been racing all week in the rain, in VR, no perfomance drop at all and zero crashes. probably the server you were on or something. its stable as fuck
Do you think potholes will after in visual the lower graphic cards ?
Excellent, thanks.
1:50 Marry me
I became an I racing member again for the first time in probably 10 years the cost of addons has always frightened me. I loved GPL, Indy car, Nascar etc from Papyrus back in the day especially GPL.
I was met with a horrendous instillation process that left me wonder what the hell was going on and was it going to work at all.
Once it was installed the loading times are just awful, so slow and long.
The UI is absolutely crap even though it has been updated.
You feel as though you have no control at the menu screen, I just wanted to grab one of my cars and practice on one of the tracks I already own. But Iracing was having none of it you chose these cars and it can only run on the preselected tracks.
Well that is what it looked like to me anyway like I say the UI is crap.
SO I joined a race in the Mazda and it was really great the car felt a little spongy but it was fine and the race was filled with accidents but I survived.
I cancelled my subscription the next day as to me it just wasn't a fun experience.
And certainly not one I would pay monthly for.
I really expected so much more.
I know this is unrelated to the rain and I didn't experience that but this is what a new member would experience and it could be so much better.
They have now implemented a toured guide to show all the options for newcomers. The UI really isn't that bad. When you want to grab a car and practice as you wanted - click test drive, select a car, select a track, select weather, click on Race now.
Thank you for that info MrEet I will try I looked at it again today but couldn't see how to practice with the car and track you want.
@@brentritchie6199 Welcome, the guided walkthrough only starts automatically for new players. If you want to activate it go to your settings (left bottom of the screen), there enable 'new racer onboarding'. Iracing has a ton of options so it can be a bit overwhelming in the beginnen, but the UI is really convenient once you know how everything works.
It's the reason I stopped with RF2 btw - even after they updated the UI it's still a pain to navigate :-/
@@MrEDET I agree with you on refactor 2 it is like a dyslexic chimp designed it
Thank you for the info racing really need to make it one hell of a lot more intuitive
God that's such a sexy car and man that guy driving just looks like a great driver, some team should pick him up and make him a pro or something 😉. So much fun my man and would not have traded our experience for anything. You're reaching with me again❤❤❤❤
Which to get for my first wheel. My options are ( g29 , g923 , Thrustmaster T248 and Thrustmaster t300 rs GT edition) I play on ps5

Nice
Runs great, zero crashes. Vr
One problem i can come up with is setup during endurorance. Its different setup for rain/not rain. But you cant switch setup during a race. It should be possible to change between a wet or dry set up. At a cost of time in pit offcourse. Not only wet tyre. Or, is there little to non difference between a dry/wet setup but amount of abs/trc/tcs and tyrechange?
Other then changing tire pressure and wing angle, most racecars, once it's started won't change much. The laptime difference compared to the time it would take to change the springs, ride height, readjust camber and alignment because you changed the ride height, would make it not viable. That is what makes this even more cool. You need to decide and make a call on how much you tailor your setup for the forecast. Bit of rain, alright, You want to still go full wet to make it easier and safer, or risk having a bit less wing and ride height but snappier and risk a spin or a crash? How much rain is there or when , and will it dry out?
That is beauty of endurance racing. Have to make setup choice before race (IRL it would take long time to re-adjust car - never makes sense unless we talk about broken parts and willingness to get back out for experience) - how dry-ish setup to use (in general - more quick in dry, more dangerous in rain and vice versa - flying in rain can be too slow in dry). For most of simracers it is well known territory (I mean, wet racing in sims/simcades is around for like 20+ years) so they naturally will just go with predicted chance of rain.
lol huh? you can't change setups in real life either. if it starts raining and it wasn't planned you deal with it.
if it's a planned wet race yes dedicated wet setups will be a thing.
Biggest issue with iracing is the crazy prices for dlc, and also being forced to pay at least $50 a year to just play it, basicly no content is included without paying overkill prices
See-bring
Best thing about sim racing is not having to race in the rain.
very bias opinion actually
Noiceee! Rain! Something every racing title has out of the box
like this? not really.
!apps
Don`t know about the rain but the tire model is still dogshit. You can`t race the car on the limit because you can lose the car very fast in the slip of death. Original Assetto Corsa is the king!
Tu é que tens Huge Problems, vai jogar GT7:)
