9:24 why do I need so many Jaba the hut figures you sound like my wife XD
What would we Jabbamaniacs do without MJC & your videos filled with a huge plethora of facts and information about anything and everything Jabba-connected. Thanks for all that you do, friend.
I had this as a kid back in 1983. I vaguely remember burying it in our backyard like a time capsule. My parents still live there and now I am 43. One of these days I will go digging!
so uh... did you ever find it?
I got this set for Christmas when I was around four years old. It's still one of my most favorite Christmas memories of all time. I can still remember the weird smell (which my brother and I were convinced was intentional), and I could swear the eyes had a parallax effect so they seemed to follow you when you moved past his face. Unfortunately, it was lost to the great Star Wars purge of '98 when my mom began throwing out all our old toys since we had outgrown them.
This Jabba playset was my very first Star Wars toy ever… nearly 40 years ago - hard to believe, and I still have it!
As a child, I thought the dungeon inside was incredibly detailed, even a little scary
Pop
I remember it as being bigger than that.
Thanks to you I recently bought it for around $12 without Jabba, railing, or crumb although I did already have Jabba and crumb.
As a child in the early 80s I used to cover Jabba in hair gel for an authentic worm riddled filth effect
Thank you for the memories. I was 4 in 83 and my best friend at the time had a bunch of star wars figures, played all the time. Thank you again
I remember my older cousin had this. I would play with it at my babysitter's (his mom). So surreal that I remember everything about it. He had so many Star Wars action figures
This is an amazing review! You sir, are a legend!!!
Thanks for sharing! I love your Jabba collection.
"YOU ALWAYS GET EM AT THE END JABBA!" That line was perfect for the joke. I am also a huge Jabba fan and I enjoy your humor. Subscribed.
I just picked this up at an antique store the other day! Loved watching this video!
4:19 NOOOOO!!! YOU KILLED JABBA!!!!!!!!
Your the one that made that vid of the custom LEGO Jabba palace based on the original one
*he also has no videos*
Kudos for having a channel dedicated to toys from one character. Now there is true talent!
jabba is amazing
Happy you're making videos now!
This was my first ever vintage Star Wars action and I really love this set
I was given a sealed salcious crumb figure as just a "bonus" to a purchase at a vintage toy show in 2010. Who knows how many the guy had!!! Thanks for the videos.
These videos are FUN! Honestly I wasn't really interested at first since I follow your Jabba's review on the blog... But i gave it a try and I really liked them. Congrats, it's not an easy task, looking forward to see more. =)
Your videos are really well done! Great collection.
Slowly going to watch all your Jabba videos. I am a HUGE Jabba fan, and your videos are great. That soap though.
Me to I am jealous of this collection but glad he is sharing it
Dude your videos are the best. This one is no exception. Kudos!
This was quite funny! Thanks for the laughs!
Thanks for a nice video ya I have lots of fond memories from when I got Jabba on my birthday Every Christmas until I was like 12 years old I tried build Jabba's palace out of plain cardboard. Lots of joy came from making a working trapdoor for Ranccor. (which I actually never had).
I'm late to this, but just wanted to say how much I have been enjoying all of your videos. I remember getting the Jabba playset when I was in 2nd grade. It was my favorite Christmas present that year. We were allowed to take one gift to school for show and tell and that was what I took with me. I still love this playest to this day. I sadly lost my original but have since acquired a couple more. I would eventually like to get some variants or MIB versions. I love collecting anything Jabba or Jabba's palace related. It's great to see another fan.
+CMB76 Thanks for the comment and welcome!
This is probably my favorite RUclips video ever released
Love all your videos my brother
Your intro bit just worded every reason I love Jabba! By far my favorite genre of movie is (Italian) Mafia and I feel he possesses every trait that a mob boss would, except fully translated into the Star Wars universe.
2:00 I always get him in the end jabba
Great video, nice work, you know a lot about the history of the toy awesome.
Dude you are whacked out and I love it!!! :-) And something I never ever expected to encounter in this existence or any other, you have managed to bring into being: Jabba Kenner Figure Art! And you hypnotize with it! Truly unique ho ho ho. :-)
your videos are so interesting. thank
I was around 7 at the time the Power of the Force 2 toys representing the A New Hope Special Edition came out and I remember seeing the Jabba from that and similarly taking an instant shine to the character for whatever reason. By complete coincidence around the same time we were shopping for furniture and I encountered one of these original Jabba the Hutt figures, serving as part of a collection of toys intended to keep children amused while their parents bought furniture. At that time I assumed it was a recolor of the new one and didn't realize it was its predecessor from the 80s. The toy had seen better days and had no arms, but the tail-wagging feature still worked. The store has changed hands since then, so I have no idea where armless Jabba resides today, but I'm sure he kept plenty of other kids entertained over his years at that store.
I just bought a Jabba's Playset last week thanks to this video
I have a shelf dedicated to the different releases of Jabba over the years. You make me want to buy more. Funny, my wife asked me that same question too...Bo Shuda...
Yes I had the playset along with the Max Reebo Band! :)
Awesome. I was 10 years old when ROTJ came out. Loved Jabba the Hutt. My favourite character. I enjoyed the first half of the movie more than the second half. I wanted this playset, but my mom took one good look at the shoddy plastic used to make it and that it was made in China (or Taiwan???) and said no, you can't have it. Last time I saw it for sale brand new was at a clearance outlet years later. I think it was going for $10 at the time. When it was brand new it was $20. They used to sell the whole line of ROTJ at a place called "Consumers Distributing". It was a catalog store. Every year you'd get a catalog in the mail. Then you could go to the store, fill out a "pick-slip"and one of the retail helpers would run to the back into the warehouse and pull it off of the shelf and bring it out to you. That's all the store was. Just a front counter.
Brilliant vid!
When you said it was cherry scented, I smelled cherry really strongly. I thought I was going crazy but turned around and saw my 6 year old daughter using some hand sanitizer. HA!
You actually made Jabba my favorite character lol. As of now I only have the original Jabba and 1997 figures
I still remember the day I bought the Jabba playset. My Aunt Janine drove me down to the local toy store in Wentworthville... (Parramatta area in Western Sydney) and I purchased him with my allowance for about $20 or less?. My Aunt commented how patient I was in the car for not opening him there and then. I totally understand your obsession w/ Jabba, M.J.C.!! . Remember before Jedi came out and watching Empire and wondering who Jabba the Hutt was when Vader mentioned him to Boba Fett in Cloud City!!.....ah the memories
You are amazing..great research. Your a genius. thanks i enjoyed so much
I used to have that Line art boxed jabba at 7:55, complete in mint. I sold it long time ago though... sometimes (like right now) I miss it, but in all honesty I never played with it or displayed it so I hope it's new owner put it to good use. Great video!
I really never thought of the toy the way you talked about it.it was cool
9:18 "... You sound like my wife." (LOL!:)
I just bought my first vintage misb Star Wars playset, and it is... Jabba the Hutt! The condition is pretty nice. I got a very warm and fuzzy feeling taking this bad boy out of the shipping box. I have very clear memories of getting this toy for 1983 Christmas... I also bought the misb Rancor in the same haul. Now the challenge is not opening them! Thanks for sharing your passion and knowledge. Stay away from that Sarlacc pit!
Congratulations. You've taken your first step into a larger world. :)
You inspired me to collect Jabba figures
Cool! Which ones do you have?
WOW! Amazing!
i had one, loved it
I love your channel
Very entertaining video. It's amazing all the pieces you have in your collection. I have wanted some bootleg stuff like you show in the video but they are really hard to find.
+Richard Dale Bootlegs are relatively common on eBay, but as I mention a lot of them aren't "genuine" bootlegs. In other words, they are made specifically to sell on eBay rather than being bootleg toys that might have been played with by kids at some point. They're still cool though.
+Gladys Nieves I do plan to do that at some point. Not sure when though. These kinds of videos take quite a while to make.
+Gladys Nieves Hard to say. I actually like all of the main characters a lot. Maybe Han Solo?
for my display i use the old 90s cardboard Jabba palace with the base from the modern era set and a vintage Jabba cause i still think it looks best. in general im not a huge fan of the vintage figures and prefer modern, but some of the ROTJ figures were really nice sculpts and made a huge leap past the figures for the first two films.
Loved this figure! You could wag his tail! :)
There used to be a chain of surplus stores where I live called "Axe Man", which (fittingly) sold Jabba heads in the 90's.
The commercials! So exciting!
Saw Gamleys on the price tag of you European version, made me so happy as this was my childhood toy store. There were only 3 Gamleys stores in the UK that I know of. All closed down decades ago. Sad.
This was one of my favorite play sets, but I lost all the frogs and the pipe pretty early on. It was one of the last things I let go of when I was young. I wish we would have known then how important those toys were when we were younger.
this xmas gift gave me proof santa was my parents. the details are hazy but when ever I see this toy (long gone now) I think " oh yeah... mom and dad are santa."
I never had the Jabba Play-set. I pretty much stopped collecting around Return of the Jedi.
But my favorite item was the Landspeeder and all my favorite characters and play-sets were from Tatooine, especially Jabba's Palace.
Hello I"m from México and I have my Lili ledi Jabba since I was a kid, I'm 49, thanks for the videos, u make me laugh🙂
I loved this toy as a kid. I remember one of the arms kept falling off. Living in Ireland, I had the European version.
I still have this 100% complete and in great condition and have it on display
ur vids are great so i subbed
Got it !!! From Sears catalog !!!
Just got one!
nostalgia is strong with this one
I still have this set
In the battle front 2 jabbas palace map they based the design of his throne on this toy, it has the grates underneath where he would sit
3:59 I don't know what figure I was expecting but it definitely wasn't The Great Goblin
I thought it was going to be the Rancor
dude i love jabbas and his sweet huge palace
Need an asmr video of swirling jabba to sleep too please
I love your video
Just expanding on the Jabba throne a little bit, I'm proud to say I have not one, but two Oola figures from the 90's. She is my favourite original SW trilogy babe. (Her and ANH Leia). (...and maybe Camie.)
I remember getting this on my birthday with I was a kid
I recently got an original Jabba with hookah pipe for $10 in mint condition in its original bag, now I'm going to track down a salacious crumb and the playset
A great film. Fun.
owned it as a kid this is one of the few sw playsets i dont own today ..
Actually got a little hypnotized there
This held up as the best 3.75" version of Jabba for 27 years, until the 2010 WalMart Jabba's Throne version was released. So many figures of the original ROTJ line held up long passed the POTF2 and POTJ lines, including the original Max Rebo Band, which I feel still hasn't been surpassed in quality by Hasbro to this day.
I also love the vintage Jabba playset - Kenner at its best. I was hoping Hasbro might produce some Jabba figures based on the concept art and molds created for ROTJ, like the Fu Manchu version with four arms and the snail version with many, many arms. But this seems very unlikely at this point.
man, i acually really want this. my frind has just the jabba but thats it.
"his belly movments are almost..hypnotic"
"yes........it's like a lavalamp o.o"
There wasn't any doubt that I wanted this for Christmas 1983, but my memory is kinda sketchy as far as when I got this, because I got the Scout Walker for Christmas too. The only thing I remember is having both in my collection, and my Jabba ended up being the shadowy leader of my Cobra organization when I started getting into GI Joe.
I like your videos so I subscribed
+Red21StandingBy Thanks!
Mighty Jabba's Collection how much do vintage jabbas go for?
I already answered this question of yours on another video.
Mighty Jabba's Collection which one?
Forever and ever
Mine got tons of play and now almost 40 years later has never lost its arms
Hmm, I'm curious on the line drawing box. I think i got it when I was a kid. Don’t remember the box but my Jabba didn't have a hookah nor the manacle though everything else. I am told it was purchased at Service Merchandise.
YOU ALWAYS GET EM IN THE END JABBA
The June Taylor Jabba Dancers!
Simplemente hermoso
Something that I just noticed, in the TV commercial and the photograph on the box, the Jabba figure is painted like the ROTJ figure while the actual toy is just one color. Interesting
Meant to say ROTJ Puppet
Yes, on the promotional photos they used a prototype version of the figure that was a lot more realistically painted
I could have sworn that Jabba's eyes had the illusion of following you if you moved the head from side to side.
Gym teacher: no excuses class, you are doing pushups today, no making the "I have no arm" excuse.
Me: 6:00
Gym teacher: fair enough
best eyes on a jabba fig imo.
I got that for Christmas
One thing you can make to fix a broken arm peg is to pierce the peg/whole arm with red-hot needle/nail.
How did you acquire that Jabba mould? It's beautiful
From another collector. They are obviously quite rare
How hard to make the frog chamber bubble and the pipe bubble and have vapor come out
