In this re-upload of a Star Wars Follies classic, Michael looks back on Kenner's Return of the Jedi offerings for Jabba the Hutt and his minions, and recalls some very strange decisions.

Jabba's rave parties were wild. Just look at Orko go.
Lol!
As a kid, I loved the little dungeon under Jabba's dais- I never thought that it was a stand-in for the Rancor pit, just an extra prisoner dungeon. For me, getting put in there was an extraordinarily cruel punishment; a few hours living in the filth directly below Jabba's girth, and you'll WISH he had dropped you in the Rancor pit for a quick death! :D
Did any one lese notice the "Han shot first!" ?
Yup! I feel all subliminalized!!!!🤣
Hell yeah he did in fact Grito didn’t shoot at all
TBF he didn’t shoot first. He was the only one that shot.
Just pause on 4:12. Easy. You can stare at it.
@Braedan Richards , my RUclips Troll! How's it going buddy?
Retroblasting : the best part of being quarantined.
I really liked the fact we had the Rebo Band. All part of that world building. Gave me the figures to recreate the palace, along with the aliens they released. All in all, I was glad to have em, the Jabba playset, and the Rancor.
I'm with you 100% give me the Modal Nodes! Would have loved to had them. I don't get the hate for a lot of these figures. Is it cool to hate Madine & the Imperial Dignetary? I don't give a "S", i love em all! & for the price, Jaba's playset rocked.
@@youmayberight for sure brotherman!
Agreed, that's one of thing things I liked about the Star Wars figures, you could bet that even characters who were only in the background or had just a scene or two to themselves were represented.
The Max Rebo band was released again in the POTF2 line, and while we could have done without the extra members, they were pretty cool as well (only nitpick is that there are no peg holes in their feet so you couldn't use stands - but in all fairness, they didn't really need them.)
Fantastic timing my friend!. Ive had a lousy day and had just made a huge ultra sweet mug of coffee to retire to my bedroom and wallow in self pity and then switch on the laptop, lo and behold your here. Thank you.
What that dance party needs is Skeletor singing "He-Man's really boned." Thanks for keeping us all connected in this insane time
Star wars follies III: special edition
Does this count as a proper Buck Rogers vs Star Wars crossover?
I only had three original toys as hand me downs from my older brother ... a speeder bike which was cool and still got its flaps, a B Wing pilot in which I often turned his head cause I thought the back of the helmet looked like a droid .... and then .... General Madine .... yeah ... hmmmm. At least I had the bike and the pilot.
That dance sequence, too blasted funny man. Dying over here!
Good points on the Rebo band, and I like the "what should have been" angle. Kenner sure had some ... lots of head scratchers.
Kenner was wonderful. Their understanding and care for the toys they made is sorely missed.
My guess is that they were trying to make as many products as possible since they thought this would be their last Star Wars toy line.
The best action figure dance scene ever.
Retroblasting is the best cure for the boredom of this quarantine.
Marc, thank you!
I wish I could have been there when some kid breathlessly ran to his parents, clutching General Madine in his arms, and said, "Mom! Dad! They have the old guy who just stood around! Can I get him?! He even comes with his stick!".
Lol
Oh man!!! cardboard boxes and Star Wars figures!!! that brings back so many childhood memories. And surely the victims view in the pit is all part of the horror lol. Another great video guys, thank you.
So good! Thanks for putting this back up.
Your videos are great and I really like your channel, but could not disagree more on this. The Max Rebo Band is outstanding. Some of the most unique and fascinating character designs imaginable. There are plenty of action characters, not every single character needs to be front and center in the action. As a kid I remember dying to get this set and never lost interest when I finally got it secondhand in my teens. Also o absolutely hate it when a character is drawn in the background art. It takes away from the realism of it being a "background". On a side note your Rancor Pit concept is spot on!
That looked like a great dance party!!
Funny and brilliant. Thank you so much for making this video.
I am happy to see this episode of star wars follies back.
That dance party music is AWESOME!
Can we just acknowledge that Orko won the dance competition?
Nostalgia is the only word to describe retroblasting.
Hi Michael French / RetroBlasting. The video "Star Wars Follies III: Jabba the Hutt & Friends" has been removed following a copyright claims from THE ESTATE OF THE LATE JABBA DESILIJIC TIURE. Don't worry. You're not in trouble and your account standing is not affected by this. However, the extended Hutt family have warned that further infractions may involve in you being turned to inanimate hanging wall furniture, or dumped out of an airlock in the path of an Imperial Capital Warship dumping its sanitary tankers at hyperspace speeds. Toodles! Evil Corporate Overlords at RUclips.
The vintage Jabba the Hutt Action Playset was my very first Star Wars toy from way back in the day... Jabba and the vintage Hoth Leia.
Who needs to sleep when you have RetroBlasting
The dance off still holds up lol.
Glad to see this is back. That was an awesome episode
I used a lot of cardboard boxes and styrofoam pieces in my playsets. I particularly remember making a Sarlaac Pit with a box and a blanket.
Thanks for the reupload/revisit! It's been far too long since I've heard the term 'fur nugget' used in a sentence.
I love them band, I hope they make them again in the retro collection 🙏
Only had Jabba growing up, though a couple of years ago, I found a Rancor, at a church jumble sale for 20p
Nice shout out to One Crazy Summer one of my favorites movies growing up
I'm so glad to be able to watch this one again!
Loved that Rave scene - Orko was E'ing his bollocks off!
Your box throne room was exactly what my friends and I made!
I love this video, I watched it before and laughed and it made me laugh again:)
I'm the troll?
Did I miss something?
I love your content
@@korydoe7201 Sorry Kory, there was troll named _"Travis Bos"_ that commented on your post and several others (who I have since blocked). He or she has gone back and deleted some of the trolling remarks leaving weird gaps in the thread. -Timothy
@@retroblastingoh ok I was confused
Sorry for any confusion. Have a great weekend!
@@retroblastingthanks, you too!
Love the play set idea . Gunna start design ing it this week as a diorama .Thanks social distancing ...Time to drag out my old Jaba
I've had that since 1983,I built an entire Jabba's Palace around it 3 years ago, complete with trap doors,a droid torture chamber and rancor pit.
That one crazy summer grab was good comedy
The dance party you made looked pretty cool, but I guess it would get old quickly. Maybe they could beat people with their space saxophones?
Best video ever. The dance party!
I love the Thundercat Thrust dance moves...
Classic RetroBlasting brilliance!
Wow, they removed this?? Really?? Unbelievable, but anyway, I was looking for Jabba aliens and the Skiff mini rig, it's actually pretty cool, Its like a Skiff-Sail barge hybrid
😂😂😂😂the dance party was amazing
Jabba is my favorit character in star wars!!!!!
Outstanding video - especially liked the creative use of a smoke detector & cardboard. Thank you.
Great video. I like the focus on one toy design. A thorough review. Hope to see more videos like this. Michael's passion really comes through. Fun to rewatch. Thanks for sharing RetroBlasting. :)
When I was a kid, Jabba would always
remind me of the Rock-afire Explosion Band
at Showbiz Pizza....Only slightly less terrifying.
Great video! It made me laugh hard seen all those toys dancing, lol! 80s party!!
Love the dance party!
That was the funniest, most on point vid this year!
Thank you!!!
Glad this video is back
LOL LOVE IT!!!!! Glad you were able to out this back up as a Special Edition!
Other than the fact that I love the Rebo Band, I like your idea of the larger play set with room for a real rancor pit.
Thanks for the reupload íve Been looking for this video like forever
You're welcome!
Yesssss! My favourite! Thanks Michael!
I did the box thing as a kid for the Rancor pit myself. Great minds think alike.
Awesome upside to a reedit of an old video: I get to thumbs-up it again! (Thumbs it up again? Whatever. You know what I mean)
Ah ah ah..
Pizza the hut!!!! Oops wrong movie! Fantastic video Michael, never had Jaba as a kid. The rave scene is fantastic!!
One feature people don't seem to notice about the Kenner Jabba the Hutt is that the eyes appear to follow you when looking at Jabba from side to side.
My mom wouldn't let me get the band, for the fact that it didn't do anything.
Just bought my Jabba's Throne. Never had hum as a kid. Still need a Rancor...and Max Rebo band.
Great to see this video back. I remember getting the rancor for Christmas like it was yesterday. The early Star Wars toys we had belonged to my older brother, but the Jedi stuff was mine.
For me, the Max Rebo band always went down in the initial shootouts. Usually, my Cobra soldiers would shot them because they got in the way.....
Thanks for the re-post! This was a fun episode to revisit whilst I binge on the rest of your back catalogue!
My Jabba's palace playset wish list (Try saying that 3 times fast!) would also have included a place to hang the frozen Han Solo or at least a picture of it on the cardboard.
Those toys sure know how to party. Very entertaining, thanks Retroblasting. 👍
I come back to this video from time to time for a laugh and garax and orko dancing cracks me up everytime regardless of how many times I've seen it or that I know it's coming lol
Love this channel
I somehow feel validated knowing my Black Hole, Tron, Star Wars, and Fisher Price Adventure people all got together in some amazing outdoor adventures replete with firecrackers and flammable glue.
I had these and couldn't agree more, absolutely love that we got a salacious crumb figure with the Jabba set...epic kenner in the hayday
OK, Orko dancing just got you a sub, good sir.
That dancing scene is EPIC!!!!!1!
4:51 “WATCH! As the Empire
martials its marching band for the big parade!”
Great video keep it up
Dance Party! I was not prepared for SyKlone and nearly spit coffee on my phone!
I'm happy to have the opportunity to like this again :)
YES! Another Star Wars Follies! Gotta give best overall dance moves to Orko!
I remember those cardboard backdrop toys. Seemed kind of cheesy in some ways but was really a great feature and they were never too expensive. Things like backdrops that are less than real are...real enough and don't harm playability. They help set the tone for kids at play.
One of the problems that toy manufacturers develop is when they think they need to just make every flippin' character into an action figure. I thought the Max Rebo Ensemble was kind of cool as in they looked great but also had that question of...hey, what do you actually DO with this? Essentially static action figures that should have been a background!
I actually got excited when you brought out the cardboard box. Great idea!
tbh as a collector I really wish we got the cantina band in the original Kenner line. What really makes Star Wars for me is the background characters, and the aliens are my favorite part of 3.75 inch figures. The Max Rebo Band had some especially unique sculpts and toolings, and it kinda sucks that they're so expensive on the secondhand market.
The dancing is so classic! I was dying laughing.
@RetroBlasting
After the cloud city play set is finally finished you should commission a Jabba’s palace doll house style play set that has a rancor pit and everything.
I totally would have given the Max Rebo band adventures in space and join in epic battles. But I was a Lego kid, and back then Lego didn't have licensed properties. I suppose that automatically gave me a different play mindset.
I didn’t even add the Rebo band in my diorama. Not needed. I am grateful I am not a completist. But I am reminded of what you said in the last 17... you never intended to get them all.
Funny: everything you suggested was in the LEGO Jabba's Palace and Rancor Pit set.
More dance party please!!!😆👍
Awesome
It’s back!
“Woody and Buzz would’ve been assassinated” 😂
The Max Rebo band are some of the best sculpts of the original line, that's the only positive I've got for them.
5:39 that was one great idea.
Omg the nightclub part 🤣
ROFL I had that Black Star demon! O the memories! I always wanted to figure out how to get the trap-doors to open downward. I estimated I could tear the bottom out of the 'pit' pretty easily. I was a shameless modifier of my toys.
I didn't realize classic Orko had moves like that. I may need to rethink my stance on this guy.
Also, Max Rebo and the band definitely didn't bring much to the table in terms of epic space action, but I've always had a soft spot for the blue elephant dude that could tickle that galactic space ivory.
I remember getting jabba and the rebo band... i always though that it was a worse punishment to be put under jabbas dais - as he could fart on you which would cause a much more slow and painful death than in the belly of the sarlacc!😂
aqwesome as usual!
The Max Rebo Band dance montage gave me nightmare flashbacks of when my sister would abduct my action figures for just such nefarious purposes.
The smoke detector was a nice touch
