Diff preload afaik on the throttle prevents the outside drive wheel from spinning until the torque force matches what you've set. Off the the throttle the outside rear wheel will act like a brake, preventing turn in and creating excess understeer until again the difference in torque between both rear wheels matches the setting. So, high preload: good corner exit traction/poor corner entry turn in. Low preload: Poor corner exit traction/good corner entry turn in. Someone pls correct me if I'm wrong on this, I might have to look up Aris explanation again!

Dude, you explained everything very well as far as I'm concerned. I'm a beginner, but I know my way around a real car decently and everything you said made enough sense to me. I was having the same issues and, man, once I got in there and changed some of this stuff it was like a different car! I actually paused the game and made sure I was still driving the same car because I was sure that I had made a mistake. Feeling this thing turn in and actually attack corners on the line is a frickin game changer, dude. You're amazing and I love your attitude!! I found your videos through Jimmy Broadbent and I just love your style. The one critique I have is that you keep apologizing to us. I get it - I'm sure there are sticklers and mean people in the comments, but let it go and share your knowledge without thinking about them! You're clearly very talented (at driving and teaching, honestly) and have a lot of knowledge, so let it shine, baby! Thanks a ton and keep up the good work! I'm a sub for life, man!
Might be a good idea to add that, escpecially for people who are just starting to mess with setups, that it is good practice to change only 1 thing at a time. It's very easy to mess up the car with the setup, and if you changed 5 things at once, good luck finding out what is causing problems. You basically have to start all over again.
I'm glad you said this as I was going to add that as well. Once you know the car and have many hours worth of setup experience you can make multiple changes as your initial setup and then tweak one at a time as you test.
Thanks for doing this, Jardier. The devs should have done a bit beter job at explaining how things work. For example the brake pads. There is a big white box on the setup screen they could put information in like that.
what I would add to your explanations: - front toe out helps also with the initial turn in. more front toe out helps turn in faster. less front toe out makes the initial turn in slower, but faster corners gets less understeer - the preload acts like a differential lock. like a clutch. the lower values, the more freely the wheels spins independently. it helps the car turn in, but can give instability under braking. higher number limits the independent rotation of the powered wheels(the rear ones). that gives more stability under braking, but gives understeer mid corner if it's set too high(just look at the Jag for example) and oversteer on throttle if the car has a BIG amount of torque. at least, that's how I percieve it anyway, very good explanation. I wish I could use the MoTeC. I know how it works, but I can't read the damper histogram
As a new sim racer who is getting into ACC, i find your videos extremely helpful. Very big thank you for these tutorials!! You got yourself a big fan here! 👌🍻
Good explanation. You're differential preload explanation was backwards though. Diff preload is essentially how much diff locking is preset when the car is at rest (no load through the diff). I could go into a longer mechanical explanation, but the short version is... lower preload = more oversteer when off throttle (at corner entry), and more understeer when on throttle (corner exit), higher preload = more understeer when off throttle (corner entry), and more oversteer when on throttle (corner exit). I'm happy to go through the more in depth explanation of why it works that way though, if requested.
Excellent video. To my cost I discovered how bad brakes can get at Bathurst - the brakes were cooking up across the top and cooling down to the chase. Then they weren't... ACC models total brake fade nicely, sending heat into the wheels. I ended up with 30.c+ on the front right and straight on at the corner. Watching this is a good insight into getting started at refining a tune!
very nice video jardier! i think you nailed everything except the diff preload. From my understanding lower preload equals more oversteer turn in and less oversteer in the exit. Higher preload equals more understeer at turn in and more oversteer at exit
Thank you Thank you and Thank you. After finding this video I have managed to shave 10 seconds of my times and that is without the MoTek. I just don't understand that. I'm glad you explained this setup guide the way you did. I was struggling to understand what everything did. You are a legend.

Nice video. Funny how you mention the brakepads. I did that same mistake. was told pads 4 was great for sprint races. But i ended up the last 5 minutes of a 20 minute race with severe brakefade, and ended up with hardly any brakes left. That was crazy but very fun to experience.

I think there is a lot of knowledge, skill and passion in you with this game. I believe you could really improve your content by switching up the format of some of your videos. Especially informative videos like this one. The knowledge you are presenting is good, but not clear and concise. You could do with some editing and preparing a script of what you want to discuss and why. Especially with English not being your first language, I think your point would come across a lot better if you prepared all the points you wanted to cover, what you wanted to say and why you think it's important. Record each point separately and do as many takes as you need, then edit it together afterwards. Again, you are an amazing vessel for knowledge for drivers and clearly enjoy sharing your knowledge. I think you could just do a better job of presenting that knowledge in a more consumable way.
He literally says “I’m not a teacher”. Sometimes people just want to enjoy the experience, and production value is secondary. I know this feeling well 🤣 Maybe the guy has adhd and video production is too damn tedious for a guy that just wants to PLAY. He talks fast enough... and I recognise it through personal experience. That or he drinks WAY too much coffee.
This was amazing buddy. Your the most positive, kindest person I know, who also continually takes time to help explain and inform others. Thank you for everything you do Jardier. Your videos have helped me and thousands over... enjoy!
Extremely helpful for someone less than 100h into ACC. I hit a serious wall at 50h when I had learned some basic fundamentals but haven't been able to find the consistency to eliminate more time. These are very useful because not only do I know very little about cars, but also every game seems to have its quirks and where you would take a different action in real life you do something different in game because of the way it was coded. It's very confusing out there for us noobs.
Hey Jardier. I messaged you on Discord a little while ago seeing if you were interested in doing a video series on exactly this but didnt get a response. But I am so happy to see that you have done something similar anyway because this will help me so much for my own racing. Great video, looking forward to the others in the series!
Thank you! Also I really like this style of explaining. The vibe/feel type of organization is cool because we probably get more info than if you tried to categorize and order everything. And things of importance stick out in an accessible way. This is pragmatic for a noob like me : ) (I like sciency explanations as well - but they don’t help me much when trying to tweak stuff quickly in a practice sesh :)
Thanks for the tips, I have only started watching your videos about 6 weeks ago and have preordered ACC for the Xbox so any tips would be very helpful. Keep up the great work! 👍
I used some of your tips to do my own kyalami setup, I never considered bumpstops to be so nice to work with and I also used to run lower wing to get turn in and compensate with lower rear arb, no I tried opposite and it works nicely at least at Kyalami, thank you for the tips, now the car is much more comfortable and playful 😁
Great video!! i think you explained it very well. thanx for the tips. one question, what does the "front aero variation" mean? i see that you have it set to 0, is that the range it should be at?
What is you opinion on the default sets ups in general ? Is there a need to adjust in most cases or just to accommodate ambient temperature differences ?
Was a great and insightful help, I'm new to try and set up the springs and shocks as that's where I struggle the most, although I'm playing asstto corsa and have seen people's set up and it's so smooth compared to the standard set up. I'm not playing competizione yet, waiting to upgrade to pc from console but the lessons u give apply to any racing sim so would be a great video but understand that it's a hard one to do but think it would help us massively so I can be more competitive. Again, very good video!
Extra helpful video mate,u deserve like and subscribe ;) just keep doing video like that, because a lot of us don't have knowledge of understanding the settings and setups,we just wanna race :D
Great vid Jardier keep them coming getting ACC on PS4 when out so will take all this on board might try the principals on PC2 hopping more to come cheers and thanks
Hopefully some of the tips will be useful. I know I talked fast and about lot of things but I hope you will be able to pick up some of the tips :)
thanks a lot for the tips bro time to write some notes
Thanks a lot Mr. H.
Well when the game comes out on console I can use these tips effectively
Diff preload afaik on the throttle prevents the outside drive wheel from spinning until the torque force matches what you've set. Off the the throttle the outside rear wheel will act like a brake, preventing turn in and creating excess understeer until again the difference in torque between both rear wheels matches the setting.

This is pragmatic for a noob like me : )
(I like sciency explanations as well - but they don’t help me much when trying to tweak stuff quickly in a practice sesh :)
Thanks, Jardier, I've learnt a *lot*! Just have to put it into practice now...
Great video, very helpful for ACC tuning beginner. 👍🏻
Thanks for the tips, I have only started watching your videos about 6 weeks ago and have preordered ACC for the Xbox so any tips would be very helpful. Keep up the great work! 👍
Nice to see setup guide, definitly will check it out later and watch the whole video carefully :D :D
You dont need it go away! :D
Jardier the point is I need it 😂😂
Bloody setups 😝
I used some of your tips to do my own kyalami setup, I never considered bumpstops to be so nice to work with and I also used to run lower wing to get turn in and compensate with lower rear arb, no I tried opposite and it works nicely at least at Kyalami, thank you for the tips, now the car is much more comfortable and playful 😁
Great video! Thank you so much, Jardier! Hope I'll somehow figure how to make the car stable :)
Great Video! Lots of useful information Thanks.
I'm looking forward to watching this video later. Also subbed. Looks like great content! Great work my man.
Great video!! i think you explained it very well. thanx for the tips. one question, what does the "front aero variation" mean? i see that you have it set to 0, is that the range it should be at?
So great Jardier! Thx for this accurate & immersive explanation about primary things to know on the setup. Was all clear, cheers ;)
Thank you much just got the game for Xbox One X will definitely help
Why can't I like more than once 🤓 thank you Jara, can't wait for work to lessen so I can get back to watching the live streams. Stay safe mate
What is you opinion on the default sets ups in general ? Is there a need to adjust in most cases or just to accommodate ambient temperature differences ?
Except tyre pressure most of agressive default setups are “decent” to start with :)
Thanks! differemtial explaination was exactly the other way around though
I haven't watched the video but great video 👍🏻👍🏻
Jardiers tips are always the best
Very helpful video! Love the streams as well, so happy to find your channel Jardier!
Great video 👍
Been wanting to see how the setup menus work on ACC.
Do you know if it will be same on console? Cheers
Thanks man, great tips! Only with tyre pressure i manage to go almost 2s/lap faster!
Excellent video! so much useful information, thank you!
This was great, if you have more to add please make another!
Extra helpful video mate,u deserve like and subscribe ;) just keep doing video like that, because a lot of us don't have knowledge of understanding the settings and setups,we just wanna race :D
Great video! I always use the safe preset. i know i can go faster but hate the base aggressive setups. This will help a lot!
Great video mate well explained
@jardier or u could reduce the brake bias to the rear that would help in the tyre pressure too .no needed to change the tyre pressure or the ducts 😁
Hey bro thanks for the tips playing now from the covid lockdown 1 an ur tips have been brilliant thank you
This was very helpful! Thank you
Great video. Do not be hard on yourself. You are great man. We can see your love.
Great vid Jardier keep them coming getting ACC on PS4 when out so will take all this on board might try the principals on PC2 hopping more to come cheers and thanks
