Lyrics:
Woohoohoo
Woohoohoo
Debbie just hit the wall
She never had it all
One Prozac a day
Husband's a CPA
Her dreams went out the door
When she turned twenty four
Only been with one man
What happened to her plan?
She was gonna be an actress
She was gonna be a star
She was gonna shake her ass
On the hood of Whitesnake's car
Her yellow SUV is now the enemy
Looks at her average life
And nothing has been alright since
Bruce Springsteen, Madonna
Way before Nirvana
There was U2 and Blondie
And music still on MTV
Her two kids in high school
They tell her that she's uncool
Cause she's still preoccupied

You guys, it is happening. We have finally reached the age where we have people talking about how they wish they were born in our era to experience our music... That's pretty sobering
It's even more sobering when you're a Millennial parent
@@rensje I highly doubt that I really hope that style of music dies.
Felicity Jones
I don't know, but it feels like the 2000's is the last decade people will really want to go back to and live in for the music, but I could be wrong.
@@rensje you're being needlessly sarcastic, there are a plenty of fine musicians nowadays.

@@trajan1026 I was 10 years old when this song came out. 😐
Right!?
@@theconfusedvampire Ok?
This happens to everyone. My Dad was born in 1933 and his music was the big bands and swing of the 40s and 50s. He passed away in 2020 and that was still “his music.” Of course he listened to music of later eras, but everyone is always nostalgic and has a preference for the music of their youth, when life was still carefree.
to true
I kinda feel bad for your dad though, being born in the middle of WWII would be tough..
Exactly..
Your comment sir wouldn't taint me. I was born in 90s and reminisce much of the music from 50s and 60s (from Holly to Beatles and Everyone that came in between).
Even I find it hard to listen to 90s, 2000s commercial grunge blemish over the music scene and that rap pop boy bands coming out of the demand of radio business.
So in all no, I would prefer Dylan, Gutherie, seeger, Hopkins, Dominos over any commercial 2000s artist ever.
It's June 2024 and i'm still preoccupied by 1985 ❤
Me, too! Love this song and video
Same, saw them for the first time 2 years ago with Less Than Jake.
It's weird listening to a song from the early 2000s about nostalgia for the 80s, in 2021 to feel nostalgia for the early 2000s...
That’s exactly what I was thinking.
In another 2 years we'll be as far removed from the song as the song was from 1985.
It's come full circle.
@hayven adventurer same here friend. Approaching 50 is getting scary.
What. Lol
This song was composed in 2003, 18 years ago. Which means it's the same difference between the writing of the song to today and to 1985.

How is a song from 2004 about being nostalgic about 1985 now suddenly super nostalgic
I think they half stole the nostalgia trip idea from the music video for Sugar Ray’s “When It’s Over”..it’s not all 80’s but there a brief part where they spoof Duran Duran

I’m a teenager, and I have a really good relationship with my dad, he introduced me to this song when I was very young, it reminds him of his own childhood, his music is still stuck in the eighties so I grew up with this and so many old bands, I love listening to this song when I’m away from him, definitely still one of my faves
kinda same
Can't believe a year was named after this
He he

Good one Annie !!!
Lol.
I laughed too much at this
I love how this song is 17 years old and it makes a reference to "music still on MTV." That's how old the complaint about MTV not playing music anymore is (and it's much older than this video!) A lot of people who complain about it probably never were alive when MTV mostly still played music.
My mom's complained about it and she was around, back then.
i barely remember it, they still showed some music in the late 90s but by 2000 it was pretty much over
Now the complaint is that people can remember a time when they could ever see music on MTV at all, whereas now even the "TV" part of "MTV" is kind of pushing it, as the only thing they ever play is ridiculousness- and I promise that's barely even an exaggeration
@@reeses_unicorn why ??
I was born in ‘91, I still remember MTV playing music videos in the late 90’s and early 2000’s.

It's closer to 1985 to any time you read this
Debby’s house was a good friend of mine’s growing up. We got to watch them film the music video. Those toys on the lawn are my friend’s actual toys in the garage they used, I used to play with those 😂 and the flowers on the house and the trees are fake, they’re props they stuck up there. My mom had a conversation with Debby’s actor. I got their autographs. The band was high as a kite when I met them lol
I sat on the right side of the stage during the last garage scene they filmed, I was just out of camera shot with my friends.
Awesome!! I just stumbled on this video and saw your post. Cool insight into the house in the video!
That's an awesome story to tell your future grandchildren when this song comes up on an oldies list😂 I was 32 when this came out so I'm exactly the person they're mentioning in the song! I was 13 yo & in love with Duran Duran & Wham!
Awesome man!
i will also throw in that this band was my first concert at like 7 and i met the whole band and they gave me guitar and bass picks and signed a shirt for me and were genuinely rad, and ive only had as good of an experience with The Wonder Years since

when i heard this song I was in elementary school and jammed the hell out to it. now that I'll be 23 in spring I'm a bit bummed by the lyrics but I'll still jam out.
Lyrics
Debbie just hit the wall, she never had it all
One Prozac a day, husband's a CPA
Her dreams went out the door when she turned twenty-four
Only been with one man, what happened to her plan?
She was gonna be an actress, she was gonna be a star
She was gonna shake her ass on the hood of Whitesnake's car
Her yellow SUV is now the enemy
Looks at her average life and nothin' has been alright
Since Bruce Springsteen, Madonna
Way before Nirvana
There was U2 and Blondie
And music still on MTV
Her two kids in high school
They tell her that she's uncool
'Cause she's still preoccupied
With 19, 19
1985
She's seen all the classics, she knows every line
Breakfast Club, Pretty In Pink, even St. Elmo's Fire
She rocked out to Wham, not a big Limp Bizkit fan
Thought she'd get a hand on a member of Duran Duran
Where's the mini-skirt made of snakeskin?
And who's the other guy that's singin' in Van Halen?
When did reality become TV?
What ever happened to sitcoms, game shows?
(On the radio was)
Springsteen, Madonna
Way before Nirvana
There was U2 and Blondie
And music still on MTV
Her two kids in high school
They tell her that she's uncool
'Cause she's still preoccupied
With 19, 19
1985
She hates time, make it stop
When did Motley Crue become classic rock? (Classic rock)
And when did Ozzy become an actor?
Please make this stop, stop, stop
And bring back Springsteen, Madonna
Way before Nirvana
There was U2 and Blondie
And music still on MTV
Her two kids in high school
They tell her that she's uncool
'Cause she's still preoccupied
1985 (woo-hoo-hoo)
Since Bruce Springsteen, Madonna
Way before Nirvana
There was U2 and Blondie
And music still on MTV
Her two kids in high school
They tell her that she's uncool
But she's still preoccupied
With 19, 19
1985
Are they Bowling to earn soup, or on behalf of soup?
Good question
Yes.
possibly.
say nah if I'm full of shit, but; nah
Bro you copied this comment
As a non native English speaker, singing along when I was a teen was quite a mouthful.
Hard to believe that this song is 20 years old this year
80s,90s, and early 2000s were awesome times for music and to grow up in i dont envy kids these days life was awesome without the internet, we had great music, and everyone just got along for the most part
My mom was playing this in the car one time and i decided to give it a listen on my own and its now a permanent addition to my playlists. Thanks mom!
Cool mom
me too😂
Chance ! We don't have the same mom ! 😭
My dad introduced me to this, he says it reminds him of the eighties, his music taste is still stuck then, but I don’t mind it
Awwe..
What has happened to music? This is precious.
I don't know... but I'm scared. Life was so great 30 years ago...
Joseph Summers Absolutely, the 80's were the best. I don't think we are old, I think music sucks now
Chelo Newman
It's not just music that sucks now. Way more than that. It was simpler times in the 70's and 80's. More about living life and less about being behind a screen.
Chelo Newman and also it was not always about money, alcohol, drugs, 'hoes' and among other senseless things.
I'm 17 and I know music today truly sucks
I was quite lucky though because I discovered the Tony Hawk Underground games and them games had an awesome setlist
Here we are 20 year's later still loving a song about my generation. 🤘🤘
How have I never seen this video before? This is great
They do such perfect impressions of the musical acts they're imitating. This video is genius.
Debbie’s still preoccupied by 1985 while everyone in this comments section is preoccupied by 2004
Well, in 2023 it will be as far from 2004 as 2004 is from 1985. So it's about time for nostalgia to start kicking in.
How am i nostalgic for when I was born
Not me, I'm preoccupied with Debbie there.
@@glenmatthes8839 my graduation is gonna be great
@@glenmatthes8839 dude that’s fucking scary
I'm 36 yrs now, this song reminds me of my late cousin brother
It was his fav. song back then 😢
I'm 17 and every time I listen to this, I remember the memories I never had
I'm 52....it hits REAL different now. I was 14 in 85. Like they said please make it STOP!
I was 15 in 85 .....I hear ya man...
Do your 2 kids in high school tell, you that you're uncool because you're still preoccupied with 1985?
@@damianwaynerobin5984 My one kid, out of high school, college and the Army tells me I'm chronically uncool.
Does that count?
To all you 80s GenXers: y'all shared your music with me and I greatly appreciate it 🙂
I call this double nostalgia
Happy 20th Anniversary 1985 🎉🎉 🥳🥳🤘🤘
Fun fact:
This song is almost impossible to find when you forget the name, who sings it, that it's not a 90s song, and that it's been a decade since you last heard it and can't remember the lyrics too well. Spent an hour searching "garage band seduces neighbor's wife" before finding it by going to another early 2000s song and seeing it in the suggested.
But I found my way back! Thanks, random urge to listen to this song at 3am!
Quite the journey.
found it again through trisha paytas 2005 literal parody to this. a streamer was playing it and i knew it sounded familar,,, songs like this are hard to forget about theyre so mf iconic
I honestly typed in "90s music video suburban wife dancing on car" and found it. Had Weezer's Buddy Holly open it was the top song to follow Weezer. so yeah all you said was true.
I always remember the name but have to sing it to remember
How on Earth do you forget all of that?
2015......and im still listening to this song!! xD
+Liam Harrison same here
me too (:
Me too
+Liam Harrison same
thirty years later..
Me and my friend love this song and everything 80’s😂😂
This song hits so hard when you are sad. this just hits hard on the first day of a new job.
The song that gives you nostalgia for 2004 that was giving you nostalgia for 1985.
