THOR the Dark World REWRITE: How to Fix Marvel's Worst Movie | MCU War of the Realms

  • Thor the Dark World is arguably the worst movie in the MCU. Even its director and Chris Hemsworth talk about it with a bated "meh." But what if the movie wasn't just good..what if it was great? We tweak the script of Thor The Dark World. With the Bifrost broken, Asgard needs Jane's wormhole science to travel to other realms. Malekith swears vengeance on Odin, who was nearly driven mad by the infinity stones. We make several tiny changes that tie into the larger Infinity Saga and best of all...set up the War of the Realms.

    The one rewrite I disagree with is Odin going into the Odin's sleep again. 1. It seems so soon after the first movie and 2. It takes away the interactions between disguised Loki and Thor at the end plus the "surprise" reveal of Loki on the throne. But other than that, basically everything else lol

    • @felixfeliciano7011
      @felixfeliciano7011 2 года назад +24

      I didnt even think of that. I forgot he was in the Odin sleep in the first one and not the second one.
      Alternate take closer to the original: Malekith kidnaps Jane and opens the portals earlier, summoning the other realms against Asgard. This puts Asgard into full-battle alert and Odin is required to lead the army. The fighting is serious enough that Odin cant divert his attention for a dark-elf-hunt for Malekith and the Aether.
      Instead of trying to kill Loki outright, he locks him in a deeper darker cell without the luxuries from before, making the Loki bust-out harder than original. Though a good Odin-blast to show a more unhinged Odin would be a nice touch before going into full-on brutal war mode, showing the nastier sides of being an Asgardian King.
      The goal is to get Odin out of the focus without just forgetting about him. You are right that a second Odin sleep is just the latter.

      @@felixfeliciano7011 I like all of that, but I want to really highlight your idea of Loki being put in a deeper darker cell as I think it would make for an awesome visual. Especially since that's when he goes to a darker place emotionally because of his mother's death and blaming himself, and it could be a way of visually showing his mental decline.

    This was great. Would have loved to see the Warriors 3 get more to do, but otherwise no notes... for the next one of these can you give us a new ending to Iron Man 3? I have no issues with the fake Mandarin stuff, but I hate the lack of continuity the ending has with the rest of Tony's time in the MCU, especially the next 2 movies we see him in - Age of Ultron and Cap: Civil War. He's supposed to have quit being Iron Man, destroys all his suits, etc. yet he's right back to being Iron Man and an Avenger in the next movie. What was the point of destroying all the other suits if you're just going to create the Iron Legion?

    The one path I feel you missed was the whole "the portals are new and unstable".
    If they aren't we just have the bifrost in new paint.
    Maybe they cannot figure out how to go to a specific location unless you already have its specific energy signature (how she got to asgard without issue but cannot simply follow the dark elves)
    Maybe have the energy issue be so bad that even Asgard struggles to power it more than absolutely energy. Or have Thor aid in powering it, he being the only one with enough energy to get off of a realm, making it very risky for a return journey, impossible if Thor is hurt or killed.
    Maybe the evergy usage is per person/the portal size is a limitation which is why They cannot simply sent an army to the feet of the enemy and so Its just the 2 brothers goin because of that.
    Maybe it flickers and if it does while you're in it..... well we saw what Wong did in infinity war.
    Maybe its found that the radiation is dangerous later on (sets up Jane getting cancer quickly, but you can justfy the others being fine cause gods. Hell that can set up some far future thing need be) which will also help justify why it isn't used again in later movies. Don't have another "Why didn't you call the avengers" with the bridge.
    Maybe the landing radius is so high that if she used it to go to asgard she could land at the end of the bridge or right in the throne room and its different every time, liming ability to sneak anywhere with control like the tesseract maybe could.
    Maybe the existence of the convergence means Jane either has to go to earth NOW or be stuck off earth for a semi reasonable but long time, with little feasible means of communication, keeping the problem of being cut off that THOR 1 established. (Assuming Loki's "if you destroy it, you will never see her again" means the bifrost would take Jane's lifetime to repair by conventional means, so perhaps a few decades, keeping this keeps a huge stake for keeping THOR in 1 location. If he leaves for earth at the end of the movie as shown, he is making a far larger commitment.)
    I know this videos not new but ideas are popping in my head, and I do like what you started with these very needed changes.

  • @KingChiggy
    @KingChiggy 2 года назад +9

    My one criticism would be that Jane just creating portal technology that can literally connect all the realms together and create portals to literally anywhere and everywhere would be too much, especially for a human who isn’t even said to be one of the smartest on the planet. And there is no way Shield, Hydra, or hell even Tony Stark wouldn’t immediately have eyes on her trying to get that technology for themselves. It would make Jane TOO important of a character in the MCU world for her to just leave.

    • @6thgraderfriends
      @6thgraderfriends 9 месяцев назад +1

      I think that's why he was saying it's unstable and needs an insane amount of power, that way people aren't just like, "Let's bust open a portal!" Whenever they conveniently need it.

The Bifrost destruction and the dark magic to bring him to Earth, The war on other realms that had to be stopped or breifly discussed in Thor 2 and 3 or how the convergence affected the other realms. Better yet if Hela ruled a realm... Was there nothing in it or just her? For the power welded by Thor enemies is scale didn't feel like World/Realm ending threats until Thor 3. If you think about Ms. Marvel she went toe-to-toe with Thanos and stopped an Alien invasion. So the idea of fighting on many realms will what hangs in the balance and the power that a "god" holds.

    Marvel allowing Chris Hemsworth to add his humor to Thor is the best decision they made. Who would've thought Thor would be the first MCU character to get a 4rth installment!! I mean look at that last Party Thor episode of What if? That had to of been the funniest entry in the entire MCU, me and my friends watched it together and laughed are asses off all the way through, such a pleasant surprise. We were expecting another dark episode, where everyone dies. Never thought we would get what was essentially a high school/college party, comedy in the MCU.
    They even threw in Captain Marvel as the typical Karen, 🐈 lady neighbor who is mad everyone is having a good time. ( Lol, kidding... the Thor vs Captain Karen fight was awesome. )
    I'm surprised the episode was so divided, people either loved it or hated it. What if? Is a unique show in my opinion, some episodes are admittedly stronger than others. However like the comics, it's a chance for them to take more risk, and give us things we probably wouldn't see in live action. I hope the series keeps going on as long as the MCU does, for all the haters. As Drax said, it is you who are pooping the party! 💩

    The only problem is Endgame - by not revealing the Ether until after Frigga's death, it eliminates the aspect of character growth/recovery that Thor went through for the Infinity War films. Thor has to instead figure out how to get the Ether ahead of Malekith and there won't be anyone there to relate to...and while Rocket is a good foil for him, Thor needed someone closer. You have him reaching the "just be yourself" realization here in Thor 2, which means his recovery in moment in Endgame has to be completely different.
    So there's that - how does Endgame's Heist change so that Thor still has his necessary character moment and get the Reality stone at the same time?

I mean, he was good in the comics, but he literally chose to be super reckless, got pissed off when his rival fixed his hands, went to find magic to perfect his hands, then stopped one of the most powerful interdimensional beings with a bargain? I mean come on.

    I have to say, I am the outlier. I LOVED this film, it is my favorite of all the Marvels in a set with Thor. I think because it sets the relationship of Thor and Loki so well, and there is so much good acting in the progression of a family with two brothers and a father that overtly is doing the right thing but in reality setting them at each other's throats. This movie is more cerebral than the rest.
    I loved all those dungeon scenes with Loki, they may seem slow to some, but they really act as counterweights showing Loki's mind directing the way the movie moves. Watching Hiddleston act, and even better, listening to his voice is the best. I wish he would do some audiobooks. I used to love listening to Richard Burton, love great narrators. Hiddleston has one of the best voices in movies.

    I think the bi frost axe should be added in, either so Thor can travel without dark magic or for Loki, and his plans. We could get Loki talking about a weapon powerful enough to kill Thanos, but thanks to how the movies go, we did we this weapon, until the show Loki (it could be brought in towards the end, and we understand what it can do in season 2)
    All of the movies we could see Loki gathering objects that have great powers, that could help with making this weapon, but thanks to Thanos killing Loki, we do not see it until the first season of Loki. He made a bi frost spear similar to the one he had in the avengers movie, but he infused it with the technology of the time variance authority, and before he makes the weapon, he grabs the infinity stones they used as paper weights, and crush them into a powder, infusing them into the weapon, with the weapon being Loki version of Thor’s storm breaker.
    The Loki show even gave us the true power of Loki, with the mind powers being a hidden power he had, so it would make him relate with his brother more, and rival his brother, having a weapon that might surpass storm breaker.

    My fav part of tdw were ironically the deleted scene of loki and loki s mental breakdown in his cell after friga s death. I would have nonprob with thor being sidelined in favor of loki in tdw. The movie should have HEAVILY leaned into loki.

    Combine Ant-Man and Ant-Man and the Wasp. Those didn't need to be separate movies. Get rid of Michelle Pfeiffer altogether, with apologies to her. And I think having Michael Douglas bite it will give Evangeline Lilly more agency than the sidekick role she played in the first one. Just use the post credit scene from AMatW, minus MD and MP, after Captain Marvel or have Fury and Hill a part of it and use it as a post credit scene in Infinity War.

    Might make things convoluted, but I like how some of the Avengers paired up after Phase 1. Cap and Nat in CAWS and Tony and Bruce in IM3 post-credits. So Dark World should've paired Thor and Clint together. Could be just a small sub-plot where Clint helps Selvig create a cure for the aftereffects of being mind controlled. I found it weird that Selvig was the only one that went crazy and the other SHIELD members were fine.

    TDW is a good movie, I don't dislike it... at least is above and beyond captain marvel in my book, could be better ... yes! but then has many things canon and follows the structure of the marvel phases... main 'fail' is the villain is diminished a lot of Marvel villains had the same treatment not just malekith ... about Jane ... looks like there was more that seems to be.

    What the Dark World did to Jane Foster gave me a long standing, unfounded grudge against Natalie Portman. So when it was announced she was returning as Mighty Thor in Love and Thunder I grimaced, but after watching the Dark World the other week (like 8 years since first watching it), I actually see how they did the dirty on her. So I'm a lot more interested to see what happens now with her character!

    I agree a journey through the 9 Realms would of been a lot better, but I think the concept of it being on Earth was to allow the shows to tie in to it...
    What would of been fun was if Maleiketh was the young Thor's tutor, similar to the Thor Animated Film. Betraying the Royal family years ago only to return now...

    Thor the dark world theory maleketh wanted to bring back the the darkness, the before time, or aka the void. Odin always speaks of the Dawn of time because he remembers his war against the old king of the void knull. Along side the other highfathers like Zeus. The time they were seen as conquers. They eventually fought back this evil and may more. It could explain why hela had the necrosword. She could have traded on odin for knull. Knull could have gave her the weapon. Since true be told we never saw her use her own power, just the sword. later knull is beaten by an unknown god and both were imprisoned. Hela’s and gorr’s could have been a pair of/piece of the same blade. We know the sword changes shape to fit the user and pushes the will of knull. Who wants to bring back his void. He is the god of the dark elves. The reason dark world is so important is because odin knows what this could mean. Thats why he’s ready to raise the entire asgardian army. Also why he was so angry when discussing the topic along with the whole dead wife part. The reason knull lose is because he shared some of his power with his love hela. The other half could’ve been “lose” to time. Really being used to kill streak as many gods as possible by gorr. Who found the beaten gods and took his weapon.
