    #Thor #LoveAndThunder #EasterEggs
    We open on the sands of a distant, alien world, with Gorr-he will be known as the God Butcher. Gorr’s origin here is mostly taken from the comics, where he was a very devout man, whose gods ignored his prayers, and his family died. But the comics have a slightly more supernatural view of the gods. For instance, at the beginning of this story a girl on a desert world prays to Thor to rain-he hears her prayers and answers. There are nods to that moment that I’ll talk about a little later in the video.
    One thing that’s important about this opening is that Gorr does not pray for his own life. As a follower, he expects to be sacrificed to his gods. But he does pray for the life of his daughter. This foreshadows the end of the movie, when he surrenders his quest to bring her back to life.
    Spoilers. I guess. If you made it this far, I assumed you’d be okay with spoilers. Anyways, I loved that the movie started with the death of a child, because after that, anything goes, right? They broke the one rule
    Afterwards, the Necrosword calls out to For. Now this sword is slightly different from how it appeared in the comics. There, it was more of a shapeless goo that Gorr could manipulate-because it was created by Knull, the god of the symbiotes. Everything related to the symbiotes is off limits form Marvel studios because sony owns the film rights to those characters. And thank goodness too, because otherwise we would never get awesome content like this [morbius clip, good luck]
    Now we are going to do a whole video about the Necrosword, where it came from, wildly speculating about how it fits into the MCU. We hear that it has been around since the dawn of time, like the infinity stones. Perhaps it enlisted before this universe, like galactus? Mayhem it was used by a god later to chop the head off of a celestial, dreaytoing Knowhere.
    And maybe the necrosword orphaned little baby ego.
    But what I thought were most interesting about this sword is the way it shepshed and called out to Gorr…much like the ebony blade called out to Dane Whutman in the eternals.
    Now the eternals kind of glossed over this point, but this sword is a very ancient, cosmic artifact that could actually be a kind of cousin to the necrosword. In the comics, Merlin forged the ebony blade from a meteor, and gave it to Dane’s ancestor. Each generation passed it on, becoming the Blck knight. But the blade actually corrupted people, and slowly brought out the words in them
    This is very much like the necrosword. They are both weapons that seem to grave death, ooze with a black liquid, and corrupt the people who use them. It is possible that the ebony blade and the allblack were forged from the same primordial substance, and they serve the same dark master. A dark master who wants all gods to be killed.
    Of course, I’m talking about [not the bees] mephisto. Or Dracula, or whoever else Blade is going to fight in the midnight sons movie.
    So, Gorr stumbles onto an oasis in the desert, where his god Rapu is wasting resources having a great time, ignoring the prayers of his people. Rapu is played by Johnathan Brugh, who was in what we do in the shadows with writer-director actor visionary plus actor Taika waiittii.
    Gorr’s god is shown as having a long beard, and a headdress that seems like light, emanating from his head. This is in keeping with traditional depictions of gods on earth. Michalengelo drew God as an old man with a beard-like zeus was always depicted. And in eatsrenn and western religions light emanating from the head is a sign of divinity.
    So, for a moment I want to talk about the subtext of this movie. Taika Waitit's Thor Ragnarok is my favorite MCmovie, because it’s disguised as a quirky comedy. But it;s actually about the dangers of colonialism and nationalism. Made a whole video about that that we are all very proud of.

      You are wrong the gold blood isn’t from gods those are robots or automatons based on talos the first AI a giant bronze man built by Hephaestus, the Greek god of invention and blacksmithing. Talos was commissioned by Zeus, the king of Greek gods, to protect the island of Crete from invaders. He marched around the island three times every day and hurled boulders at approaching enemy ships. Anyways the death of said taken produced molten lead similar to this… alternatively they could be the golden age of men … Greek mythology is weird with their alternative human origins

      There's a shot right before Jane shows up at the end to help Thor when Gor is pushing the Necrosword into his chest that mirrors the scene from Endgame when Thanos is pushing Stormbreaker into Thors chest and is interrupted by Mjolnir hitting him out of nowhere, but this time instead of Thor's reaction being joyful that his friend was found worthy, he's saddened that Jane came anyway.

    I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. My only complaint is that there should have been more screen time with Gorr. We should have had at least 1 or 2 more scenes of Gorr hunting and killings gods. The film didn't convey how much of a threat Gorr could be. The film needed those extra scenes with the villain.

    Gorr's scars are super significant. I'm guessing they are a deleted scene in the movie to avoid a trigger warning on self harm, but his scars appear only in places where he was formerly tattooed. Down the lines on his head and arms. Clearly these wounds were self inflicted because he preferred the pain and scars to wearing the signs of his devotion to a false god. They are too intentionally placed to be the result of a battle.

    There is this scene where Thor talks to Mjöllnir to keep Jane safe, while she was sleeping - like the scene near the end when he empowered the kids. That might be the reason why Mjöllnir called out to Jane in the first place, because during that speech the sigil on Mjöllnir glowed the same way as it did as Odin spoke to the hammer. So it was Thors love for Jane which made her to Thor herself.

    There are very interesting themes of faith vs nihilism in Love & Thunder as well. Jane and Gorr both face suffering that would break anyone’s heart. Jane, having a personal history/loving relationship with a god, turns to faith (Thor). Gorr, forsaken by his god, takes a more nihilistic path that recalls Nietzsche’s “God is dead”. Each of these empowers and drives them, but the plot doesn’t resolve until both powers are combined. In the end, both die yet each lives on - Jane in Valhalla and Gorr through Love

I remember watching it and thinking, 'That was so good and fresh and actually felt like a pre-x-men movies marvel comic, I hope Waititi makes 30 more marvel films!' But sadly, his second marvel movie is a pale imposter of the first. Everything that felt fresh in Ragnarok feels forced or hokey in Love and Thunder. Maybe it's the absence of Loki and Hulk and Goldblum- or how they took the good, small bits of Ragnarok (the play, Korg) and repurposed and stretched them so thin in the new installment. BUT- I don't blame the team for my disappointment, that's on me and my probably too high expectations. I still hope Waititi comes back for Thor 5- I just hope he makes that one weirder.

Maybe instead of release dates they went with the last day the actors filmed together on Thor 2 and the first day they filmed together on Thor 4. That's harder to look up.
      If you do the same release date to premiere date, Avengers Endgame was 4/26/19 which is 3 years, 1 month, 29 days so between 3 and 4 years.

    I don’t think you discussed it but Thor foreshadows his enchantment with the kids during the romance recap of Jane and Thor. Thor is able to put an enchant on Mjolnir by tasking the hammer to always protect Jane. This calls back to Odin and his worthy enchantment and foreshadows Thors enchantment of Zeus’s bolt to the children.
    There’s also a bit of a throw back to the comics bc Jane was able to wield Mjolnir in ways Thor never could (splitting the hammer into bits and using multiple projectile weapons) and it made him a bit jealous as well.

      Foreshadowing: an indication of what is to come.

    • @zumabbar
      @zumabbar Год назад

      @@joshualogan84 because it is the exact same thing, not just an indication. It's like saying Hawkeye shot an arrow with his bow foreshadowing Kate being able to shoot an arrow with her bow. The recap scene showed he's able to put an enchantment on other people although not knowingly at first, and then he did the exact same thing again and consciously this time when he imbued the kids with his power.

    • @joshualogan84
      @joshualogan84 Год назад +1

      @@zumabbar When Thor is depicted the first time, whispering to Mjolnir that it needs to protect Jane, he did it in a moment of love. He was emotionally speaking to Mjolnir and in his emotion, he unknowingly enchanted the hammer with HIS power. He demonstrated a power he did not know he possessed (yet). At the end of the film, he knowingly places an enchantment on the bolt and distributes the BOLT’s power to the children. The foreshadowing is to the audience, showing a character can do something without the character knowing it or even acknowledging it and then that power coming into play later in the film, in a time of need and with full control of that power on display. Again, the definition is 'an indication of what is to come.' This small, unintentional enchantment foreshadows the fact that Thor will intentionally display a stronger version of the enchant in the future. The first time, enchanting his power and then later, enchanting another's power, this little enchant made (unintentionally) out of love for Jane is then foreshadowing a larger, intentional enchantment made out of love for his people. That's foreshadowing.

    The scene in New Asgard where Mjolnir floats by Jane's hospital bed is also taken from Aaron's Mighty Thor run. She's fighting the Mangog in that one, but it calls to her to do the heroic thing, even though picking it up one more time will kill her. It was a great callback

    I actually think the biggest Development of the movie was love. That felt like the biggest new addition to the MCU because now thor has a daughter, it's gorr's biological daughter, and she not only wield stormbreaker ,but she has some of the power of eternity. That's a big fucking deal.

    • @catierose3647

      Yea this movie is called “Love and Thunder” casual MCU fans who complain about everything really missed the mark of what the story it was trying to tell subliminally. I was holding my fiancés hand the entire movie and looking at her every time a situation in the movie paralleled ours. Thor has lived longer and lost much more than any character in the MCU and is now the comedic prince of said universe…. “What is grief if not Love persevering”

    I enjoyed this film. Even if I hadn’t, I hope Marvel gives directors the freedom they gave on this, and Multiverse of Madness. Both films to me, feel like they were the creator’s vision. Thor 4 is silly and some humor feels forced. But when you are dealing with lost of parent, or a child, and something as devastating as cancer, you need it. As upset and hurt I felt, that ending was beautiful. I forgot how much Thor had lost. He needs a daughter as much as she needs a father.
