I don’t think Alex takes flirting that seriously. It’s not like he doesn’t do the same. He texted Henry “The next box is full of thongs” while still thinking he was straight. I think he just saw it as friendly banter.

This was such a good way to show them getting closer, Henry took the chance of starting it and Alex fell into it with ease. And the way they had Henry on Alex's bed showing how they've grown closer and Alex is imagining Henry right there with him. ❤❤
Love that Henry tries to play it cool and pretend like their conversation is a waste of time when really you know he would've been thrilled Alex called him. ☺️

They both try to play it cool and fail miserably at it (to our benefit). But, we all know Henry's been smitten since he met Alex at the climate conference (or Rio Olympics) and Alex has been a little obsessed with Henry since Alex saw him in a teen magazine when Henry was about 13. These two were inevitable.

That’s why I loved this scene so much. Sure we could’ve just seen the messages appear on screen. But to have Henry and Alex shot as if they’re in each other’s spaces reacting to the messages was an interesting choice that I really enjoyed. And yes, the intimacy factor of it was nice to see, too.
gosh i so badly want more of them together, wish rwrb was a mini series. or i eagerly hope we get a sequel to this
If another book is written, we might get one. I wish the movie had been a miniseries too, because the book was so much more detailed and we got to actually read all their emails instead of just getting snippets AND their romance wasn't as rushed

@@fatemabegum5340 The engagement doesn’t happen in the original book. It happens in the Henry POV chapter that’s only in the collectors edition, so there’s a lot of people who haven’t read that.
@@Sylphadorawhen I found out there was an extra chapter I absolutely had to get my hands on it and even though I already own a copy of the book (regular edition) it was so worth it to get the collector’s edition
@@shadowking1380 I refused to buy the book twice 😂 Plus, I mostly read ebooks to save the space and there’s no ebook for the special edition. I saw the special edition in a large bookstore and read the chapter right there.
The bed scene was a masterpiece, making it looking like there were physical beside each other was beautiful ❤️

This is one of my favorite sequences in all of movie history, seriously. I thought it was such a creative way to humanize the digital interactions. Movies are going to have to grapple with this from here on, and I'm excited to see how they do it.

This was absolutely my favorite part of the movie! To me Alex didn’t want to get off the phone at all. When Henry said " Fine have it your way” I almost fell out cause I love his accent so much. I’m not done with the book yet but the movie is my favorite so far.
This scene in the book is great, especially because they talk for longer than they do here

And as a huge bookworm and professional Book Reviewer, I love when they share their favorite authors. (I also recommend all of those books too). You can tell a lot about someone by their literary tastes. For example with the exception of Zadie Smith, most of Henry's recommendations are from the 19th century, very Romantic works that used a lot of symbolism and metaphor that reflects emotions. Also remember Henry was an English Lit major.
Alex's book recommendations are mostly from the 20th Century and are more about realistic iseues like racism, authoritarianism, sexuality and other concerns that are up front and not hidden. While there is some Magical Realism in Love in the Time of Cholera, it also deals with the changing political environment of Colombia. In other words, these are books that someone who is interested in politics like Alex would recommend.
Both the stickers were so cute, Henry's one of himself made me laugh. And I can't help but think the Spy Kids one is to help people who don't know who MI6 are, which is cool.

@@PipPipS I could get it as far as age is concerned because I too wasn't so sure at first, knowing that Alex and Henry are respectively 21 and 23 in the book, but after seeing them together I couldn't imagine anyone else for those roles and I can't believe people think they don't have chemistry haha

SO basically Alex made the first move, but beeing complete Delulu about his feelings, lol! (In the books, it's also clear that Alex loved him first, but was complete unaware of it, thats why he is so obsessed with him in the beginning and determined to hate him)

It was hilarious how oblivious he was to his attraction to Henry and his lack of being completely straight, and calling his high school friend to not only confirm but apologize was just as funny.

Henry started liking Alex when they first met at the Melbourne climate conference three years ago. He confesses it, when they hook up in Alex's bedroom after the presidents birthday party.
Yup, as the folks above me said, he later admits he'd fancied Alex since they first met. He's doing the whole "teasing the person I have a crush on and pretending I don't actually like them" thing. It's also just typical British humour to playfully make fun of your friends/loved ones.
Also Alex gave off the impression that he didn't like him so he played it cool by thinking "Well, I'm not going to act interested in a person who doesn't like me back" so behaves snobby and standoffish as a means of protecting himself.
Also since, Alex is bisexual and his other two romances with guys were pretty discreet (He at first describes himself to Nora as "being low level into guys."), Henry might for a time be under the impression that Alex is completely straight until New Year's when drunken lips sunk ships.

Too obvious. If David were called Bowie, everyone would know who he was named for. Also, the first syllable of Bowie is Bow as in Bow Wow. (The sound that a dog makes), Bow-ie is a bit obvious for a dog's name.
Soon, I will work on a fanfic (when I get a chance) and the Darling Duo, or specifically Alex, adopts a Chihuahua named Mercury as in Freddie. (Alex says, "I don't care if it's on the nose. That's a way more awesome name!")
