How to Add and Use Waze in Android Auto (Works on ANY Android Phone)

- If you've got an Android and can't seem to find Waze on Android Auto, the fix is simple. In this video I show you how to use Waze through Android Auto on any Android device! Thanks to @chuck734 for the idea on this video

If Waze or other apps aren't working on your phone and you've already tried the fix in this video, try these other options:
1. Under Location Settings --> Permissions make sure that Waze (or other app) is changed to Always Allow
2. Change the battery optimization setting to Unrestricted instead of Optimized
3. Uninstall Waze (or other app) and install an earlier release - you might have to sideload the APK file. Seems like some people are having issues with the updated version

I have Waze on the list but it's still not showing in AA... nevermind. I followed the instructions in the pinned comment regarding location permissions. Working again.

Android Auto should default to whatever map application was opened last on your phone. You could try to set it as the default map app in Settings --> Apps --> Default Apps
I just went to the whole process, and then I noticed the phone needs to be plugged in😅
That's going to depend on which car you have! Some support wireless Android Auto while others are wired.. but the wireless versions are backwards compatible

My issue with Waze is that it auto starts every time I connect my phone to my car. I couldn't figure out how to turn it off. Even when force quit it on the phone, it automatically turns back on! I don't need to use Waze all the time for my daily commutes. It consumes my precious data, as I'm on a prepaid plan. Any walk around to how to disable the auto start? thanks
You're welcome! Surprisingly Waze auto starting is a bug that developers know about but it doesn't seem like there's an easy fix available yet. Some people have tried setting Google Maps as their default map application or you could just disable Waze completely until you need it again. If Waze does push out an update that I catch, I'll swing back to update on it!
Just turn off gps location on your phone, the head unit will just tell you to enable location and will not load maps until you do. Thats what i do to conserve battery too as dont need to view maps to go to and from work every day
Since the 1st march update of android auto, it seems even using this method to try and get waze on custom screen, waze can not be viewed on my head unit, was working perfectly prior to update tho. And ideas?

Thankyou for your help, had changed these, but missed the one that removes permissions if unused for 1 week, turned that off now so saves settings, hopefully

Depends on which car you're in. This video was shot in the Ford Maverick which only has the option for Android Auto via USB.. some manufacturers support wireless while others are still wired
Did not work with Samsung 23 Ultra and brand new Pioneer car stereo professional install. Yes, I tried developer mode

That issue was happening to mee on the same Samsung Galaxy s23 plus, I unrestricted the battery and it worked, thank you so much for your help 🎉🎉🎉

@carswithsteve - it didn't seem as straightforward as that, I had to do a few things. However, you definitely add me on the right path and ultimately I got ways on to the stereo.

@CarsWithSteve - question for you. Even though I connected my phone contact list to the Pioneer 3800 NEX, it doesn't seem to recognize any of my contacts. If I say make a call, it will say who do you want to call, and I say a person's name and it just comes back and says something went wrong. If I say I want to send a text that says who do you want to send it to, I could say a different person's name in my contact list, and it won't work. If you could help that would be immensely appreciated.
For some reason the only way I can get Waze works on my Audi is with a cable connection. I have to set the destination on my phone on Waze, then plug in using a cable. Then waze will show on my in car AA launcher. RUclips music wont show up at all. I followed your steps to no avail. So frustrating that AA has blocked these apps.
Have you tried the pinned comment on the video to see if that fixes it? I haven't started reviewing Audi yet but I'll keep this in mind when I do

RUclips music can be added but Android Auto doesn't currently support RUclips video playback

I think the Uber Driver app was recently added to the Google Play Store. If you have the app on your phone this process should enable it. If it's still not showing, check out the pinned comment on this video that talks you through a few other things you can do
