The rabbit hole with this game goes deeeeeeeeep. Once you get more cards you're going to want a better organization system and dividers. And dont get me started on custom components like acrylic tokens and investigator dashboards. Totally worth it though. As a fellow former MTG player, this is my favourite game by far.
Haha I don't think I'll dive into better tokens (although the coin protectors for Chaos tokens is nice) or investigator dashboards. Organization system and dividers though...Now we're talking!
@@Kiratze I went cheap for investigator cards because this game is expensive enough. I use 6 different color 3-ring binders (green for rogues, red for survivors, etc and the 6th was white for neutral/multi-color cards) and 9 pocket sleeves that go in said binders. Dividers have been fan-made on bgg and you can print them off. They work great.
As someone who did go all in, getting color coded binders for all the cards once you have a large enough collection makes it super easy to flip through all the cards and brainstorm ideas on what to build or upgrade around vs leaving them in a box as a Giant stack
Great video! Some thoughts: Survivor cards are a bit hard to nail down, but I think the common theme of them is "finding strength in adversity". You have cards that reward you for things like not having resources or allies, or that pick things up from your discard pile, or that turn a failure into a success or at least mitigate the failure. With a larger card pool, there are some serious shenanigans going on with survivors. For more replayability, FFG used to make "Return to X" boxes for each campaign (up through The Circle Undone, I think). These usually had some higher-level versions of some player cards, but the main point was that they had alternate cards for various scenarios. In some cases these replaced particular encounter sets (the card groups identified by a particular symbol you use to set up the encounter deck for a scenario), and in other cases providing alternate locations so you'd randomize which ones you'd use from game to game. They don't seem to be making these anymore from Dream-Eaters forward, and they haven't been reprinting them for a while so they can get kinda pricey.
Same here. Me and my brother first started with the revised core. Played that about 3 times before we bought Dunwich first and then Carcosa and then bought the whole Innsmouth Conspiracy Cycle. All the while we've been upgrading stuff, getting token protectors, sleeves, dividers etc. And as I'm typing this comment I'm waiting on our binders for the player cards and some Dragon Shield sleeves. Yep, this is a real money drainer. BUT IT'S COMPLETELY WORTH IT
Just got the revised core set at discount from Target. Printed some card dividers and token containers with my 3D printer. Getting the Dunwich Campaign next!! I appreciated your video for the fact that I was afraid to mix all the cards, (thus the card dividers) but it look like you put everything together. That makes me feel better. Thanks!!!
I just started with the core Box and now Dunwich too. Im also playing with my girlfriend and having a great time. I came from the Lotr Lcg with a complete Collection. Never thought Arkham horror gets me so addicted like Lotr did! Always thinking about arkham horror and how i can improve my decks, even in the night. So Iwould love to see more Videos about this Game. Greetings from Germany :-)
well some glass beads and metal tray for those beads go a long way to make the experience more premium I used 25mm for the chaos tokens and for investigators and smaller ones for some resources and to show connections bettwen locations
I just found you with this video, as I am newly getting into AHLCG myself. And I love your presentation style, well spoken and easy to listen to. Subscribed! I hope you continue to make more content. I'm going to go try to catch up on all your existing content now 😅
Haha oh very likely. I just don't think I'll go in all at once. On the docket are the Carcosa and Edge of the Earth Campaign Expansions (already got Investigator expacs)
I have the original AH LCG and quickly lost interest in it, with the little card packs etc.. With the revised core set and the campaigns, I regained interest in AH LCG and went off the deep end. I purchased the revised core set and all of the released campaigns, with investigators, and pre-ordered The Forgotten Age. I also got some coin capsules. I sleeve the cards when I'm ready to use an investigator or chapter. I also got some investigator mats and stuff from the Game Crafter. For the potential amount of game play I still find it somewhat reasonable in cost when one looks at some of the large crowd funded campaigns.
Welcome to the hole! This game has become a collection more than an actual game for me at this point. I started with the original core box and the dunwich cycle, then got the Chinese version of all cycles (because it was cheaper). After sleeving those cards and played the core scenario solo, I decided that the Chinese versions aren't worth collecting and started searching for English options. I managed to get my hands on the entire 5th and 6th cycle thanks to local stores and amazon, but cycles 1 to 4 were really hard to collect them all. Luckily FFG announced they were repackaging the old cycles and I bought the dunwich cycle AND 2nd edition core and replaced all my old cards. I just bought the Carcossa and Scarlet keys cycle and I realized how much money I sank into this. But at least I have all but the 3rd and 4th cycle that is in English. I always told myself I would play another game (have no irl friends interested), but organizing and sleeving the card IS THE GAME.
We have similar brains, this game got its hooks in me recently and I’m sucked in deep! Also trying to be strong and not just buy everything right away haha. I also have MTG roots and recently sold most of my collection and Arkham Horror scratches that itch, but love that you can play solo and more story focused. I also went with the dragon shields and the coin cases and it feels so good! Would love to hear an update on how it goes with 4 people, I’m thinking about playing it with a group and I’d love any tips on onboarding a new group
For sure! I'll be playing 4 player for the first time this week. I think it'll make some things easier, but not looking forward to multiplying some enemy health's by 4 😅
I'm considering buying Arkham and Final Girl board games. I've always wanted to get into board games but can never get friends to commit to a game night so these two options give me a single player experience without the headache of planning with more than 1 player.
This is a pretty old comment but I recomend checking out mage knight if you are trying to get into a solo board game! Very fun, one of my favorite games by far!
Haha I did the same. Originally, just want the core and Dunwich. Now, I have 2 other expansions and I haven’t even finished Dunwich yet. I’m 3 campaigns in.
I am in the exact same boat. I got into this game in the past couple months. I have now bought the revised core set, the dunwutch legacy campaign, the path to carcosa campaign, the edge of the earth investigators expansion, the scarlet keys investigators expansion, a starter deck, coin capsules, two storage boxes, and sleeves for every card.
Haha very close to my collection! I still need to get The Scarlet Keys Investigators Expansion though. Also not planning on sleeving every card but might look into putting all the player cards into Binders.
My friends and I started this game around this time last year, and boy has it eaten into my wallet quite a bit. Since then, I've bought The Dunwich Legacy (old format), The Path to Carcosa, The Innsmouth Conspiracy, Edge of the Earth, The Scarlet Keys, and Murder at Excelsior Hotel. And that's just the game itself! I also bought card binders for each class, a play mat, coin capsules, 3D printed token trays, action counter tokens, sleeves, card boxes, connection markers, and most recently new glass/brass chaos tokens to replace the coin capsules. It's certainly a doozy on the wallet but it has been a very fun, amazingly memorable experience for me and my group. Good luck!
It's easily my new favourite board game alongside Aeon Trespass Odyssey! Well worth the money. I've yet to dive too much into deluxifiying the game other than coin capsules and 3D printed Path Arrows. So far the campaign boxes have been enough for storage but I am thinking about getting some small binders for player cards.
@@Kiratze Glad you've been enjoying it so much! It really is a great game and my favorite board game to play right now. I even started playing it with another friend as a second group. The deck building is by far the most compelling part of the game. Welcome to the Arkham Horror TCG club. :)
Dunwich is a great first campaign and I recommend finishing it before moving on! You might even want to replay it afterwards to see the different paths. Personally I got the investigator expansions and standalone investigators since I enjoy the deckbuilding aspect more and replaying the Dunwich campaign with new investigators/cards feels like a new way to play. The standalone scenario expansions are also good. Highly recommend Murder at the Excelsior Hotel.
Your situation is eerily similar to mine. I bought the core set (I was originally looking to buy Clank, because I wanted a deck building game, but it wasn’t available) and before I’d even finish the Core campaign I bought Dunwich, then the Dunwich Investigator Expansion, and then Carcosa. I found myself literally dreaming about playing the game, and a very strong FOMO kicked in because I worried they might stop producing the expansion boxes. I’m normally very good at ignoring these irrational compulsions, but Arkham just pulled me right in off my feet. The initial lack of control has worn off, but still. It was like a real addiction/ obsession for a while there, something I haven’t felt since childhood. Kinda spooky.
I gather you obsessed over which sets got the best reviews, and which expansions people recommended to play in which order? Dunwich and Carcosa are the ones I concluded best to buy too. Next I want Edge of the Earth, The Scarlet Keys, and The Forgotten Age when it releases. Welcome to debt!
I passed on Barkaham, but have everything else, including 4 (original cores), Revised core, 2 Dunwitch, 2 The Forgotten Age, Extra encounter sets for Circle, Dream Eaters, all the starter investigators, all of the stand alone scenarios and all the Return to expansions. Best money I have ever spent. I was providing 4 investigator decks for my group. That is why I doubled up on so many things.
Sad I missed out on Barkham! Friends and I would love that but I can't justify paying what people are charging after market for it. Might just have to print and play it. Quite the collection!
Have bad news for You. New release model (hero&camp exp) opened myriads of possibilities for the game system and unleashed devs to explore new ways in campaign design. Dunwich and Carcosa are great, but latest two have insane vibe, partially because of being developed as a whole from the beggining. So no, it won't be the end of what You want (and will) buy :D A tip for You - switch game sleeves into cheaper (Sloyca premium?), while You still at the beggining - it will cut out at least some costs :D
Haha yah I really like the new release model. Makes it so much easier to figure out what to buy, even if it is a more upfront cost, I prefer it. I only sleeve the cards we're playing with at that time and I think I'll probably just get some penny sleeves for encounter cards. Luckily, being an ex-MTG player I have tons of spare sleeves so don't need to buy many more!
Don’t hold back on this one. It’s worth the investment. I went all in last year and recently picked up the Scarlet Keys. I really advise you to play all the campaigns all the way through in the order in which they were released so you can fully enjoy the new mechanics as you discover them. At present, I’m halfway through the Dream Eaters campaign, and one day I’ll manage to get through the whole thing. You will die. A lot. But don’t get discouraged and enjoy your journey!
I've gotten all the Investigator expansions so far in the new format haha. My friends and I are also starting a group run of The Dunwich Legacy this week so looking forward to starting the real campaigns with them!
Thank you! They were just some 25mm generic capsules off Amazon. Got 100 of them for like $15. You can search up sturdier ones though that are slightly more expensive but won't chip/break as easily.
Do you often find yourself thinking about which investigator you're going to play next? Do you sometimes build a deck for an investigator that you're not playing just because you want to "scratch that itch"? Say no more! Your friends here at Arkham Asylum are here to assist you? Seriously though, it's easy to get obsessed with this game and play it just differently enough with new investigators to mix things up. I don't even know how much I spent on this game.

Thanks for the comment! I do have different sleeves but I'm currently playing with some friends and we use the same sleeves so rather than having to unsleeve their decks to use for my videos I can just grab their cards for my deck. Saves a bit of time and I haven't had any issues yet getting them mixed up (knock on wood) haha.

This game is so great. I have all of it. And it is all amazing. Also extremely frustrating and difficult, but the stories and scenarios are always great.
Haha oh I know I'll end up at those in the future. Just for the immediate future though I wanted the customization for our Dunwich campaign so figured picking up the Investigator packs and Starter Decks is a good start.
And while I was getting more sleeves after recording this video, I got the Edge of the Earth Investigator Expansion...
